Hello Congratulations on your work. I wanted to know what material you are using to dress the tunnel? And also which projector to use for the projection of images in the tunnel. Thank you
I noticed many similarities between the one I built for 2014 and the one you've built. I also noticed how many smarter decisions you made with yours versus mine. I drove the rings from a rotating cylinder on the top which made a lot of friction and ended up breaking my fabric. Also, since I drove it from the top, I was unable to use the genius wall supports you implemented which meant any time my tunnel went idle, it'd warp and would take a few pushes to get turning again. I couldn't put wheels on the bottom either because the spokes were screwed to the outside so they wouldn't hit the drive cylinder. Anyway, I'm very impressed with your tunnel and when I mach up a second tunnel I'll shoot for yours and not cut so many corners!
Thanks for the kind words! The haunt has been open 3 days so far which means the tunnel has run for 9 hours. A couple slight hiccups. I should have used lock nuts on the bigger bike wheels, the originals started to back off a bit. I will have to get video of the completed tunnel and figure out how to link it here.
Awesome build man! It inspired me to build one for this year. Now watching your video you said that the pvc is 3/4 inch and in the comments someone asked and you said 1in for pvc. I have some 1in now but it is kinda big for the bike tires. Do you remember what it actually was lol
The span of the walkway/bridge would be your limiting factor. However, you could probably link multiple vortex tunnels together with a minor gap (6 to 8 inches?) for the bridge support legs.
How long did it take to take it down for storage? How big a storage did it require (what's the biggest pieces)? And how long to put it back up the next time? Could you do a 12 hr setup & ?hr take down after it's all made?
Take down was probably less than 2 hours. We have a couple 54' trailers that we use for storage and it takes up little room. The rings break down into 3 pieces. The biggest pieces were the two side railings to the bridge and the beams as they are 16' long. I am actually building it again now to include in this years house. 12hr setup is certainly doable but only after you have built it once before. Building it from scratch took much longer.
i've been driving myself crazy on trying to figure a easy way to build this and you've done it. I'll have to watch several more times but awesome job. do you have a vid of it finished?
Ty! Surprisingly I personally don't have footage of it completed. Some others on the team may, I will check with them. To much running around all season once we were open lol.
We actually used our roofing material. It is a fire retardant plastic sold by Americover. I painted with with florescent spray paint. In this version I duct taped it to the rings which was hell. This year I have improved the build and I am using industrial velcro to attach the fabric. I will be making a new video very soon.
@@joefazio6486 Very terrific! I think we are going to attempt this, this year as well LOL. Thanks for getting back to me with the specs! Best wishes pal.
wr are having some difficulty maybe you can give us some advice. the plastic conduit doesn't seem to catch as we turn on the motor. it just spins without moving. also the 10ft metal conduit. did u attach each piece at the middle with connectors and then into the plastic conduit?
Gregg Grieve I left out that important step, thank you. To get the wheels to grip I had to use a combination of Plasti Dip spray and strips of duct tape on the outside of the ring so that would grip the drive wheel. As for the metal conduit I connected in the center with a compression fitting and then to the middle ring.
do you have a picture or video of the final product spinning with thr material. wr just built the walls and bridge this week and thr tunnel. now have to hookup a motor and wheels and then attach fabric
All set. At the end of this video you should see it pop up. Not the best video but you can see it spinning and half painted. We used black duct tape and 2 large pieces of roofing material connecting in the middle at the center ring.
any tips of hanging the plastic fire retardant onto the inside of the hoops? we have thr frame and everything built and motor running. can't wait to have this in our free township run haunted house this year. you have been a big help.
Gregg Grieve we used black duct tape and just duct taped the edges to the hoops. Just make sure there are no creases in the duct tape so it's still rolls over the wheel. Cut your length of fabric in half so that you can duct tape the middle to the middle hoop.
First build I used black duct tape to attach it to the tunnel. I used the same material we use for our roof from Americover and just painted it. This year I tried velcro but our haunt was to humid so I ended up stapling it to the pvc rings.
1st version was the haunted house plastic sheeting from Americover. 2nd version was a roll of checkered table cloth material from oriental trading I believe
Hello Joe, I hope this is not too late and you manage to be able to read this. I am very impressed by your work and I was hoping if you could give me an email where I could ask some questions about this and the house you were running. I was not able to find a way to message you in UA-cam so I am attempting this. I am looking to do something similar and I believe you might have some basic pieces of information that could really help me in my quest to complete this idea/vision of mine.

Bro this is so cool I’m now trying to make it by my self but it isn’t looking so good 😅
I am building a vortex next year. I am 14 but have a lot of building g experience. Where did you get the U typ weels on the side.
They are 10' lawn mower wheels from lowes. I cut the rubber off.
Using this method, what would be the maximum length something like this could be?
The span of the walkway/bridge would be your limiting factor.
However, you could probably link multiple vortex tunnels together with a minor gap (6 to 8 inches?) for the bridge support legs.
what a great idea and cheap thank you for sharing !! HFL!!

This is a great video- but- Fabric? What did you other UA-camrs come up with? How to attach? Thanks.

The Diocese!!?? Well I hope they do help I know a few are good but imho I'd want to know where every penny goes to helping people.
I know this was 3 yrs ago, but what’s the best way to attach the fabric to the pvc?
The second time I built I used industrial strength velcro sewn to the fabric and the other side glued to the PVC.
do you have a picture or video of the final product spinning with thr material. wr just built the walls and bridge this week and thr tunnel. now have to hookup a motor and wheels and then attach fabric
I do have a video somewhere, I will try and find it and link it here
Joe Fazio thanks so much. we could use the help.

What’s the fastest it could go without malfunctioning in any way?
HorrorFan040602 I never actually measured. Fast enough to be effective.
How tall did you make your 4x4 legs?
Hi Quinton. The bridge is about 32" high. Minus 4" for the 4x4 cross piece, legs are 28".
about how long did this take?
Id say about 30-40 hours total. Partially because we were building our entire haunt at the same time.

Where did you get the lawnmower wheels? I can't find any with a groove in the middle.
Lowe's. I bought the metal ones and cut the rubber off.
That solved my problem! I was trying to use plastic wheels and they weren't holding the rings in place like the metal, grooved wheels. Thanks!
This is genius!

what is the diameter of your circles?
about 10'
What size is the treadmill motor?
unfortunately i have no idea
music in the background ?
Couldn't tell you lol, one of the 10k haunted house tracks that we have
how tall are the rings them selfs
about 9'6"
How long is it?
16'
How tall is this?
The rings are about 10', the entire structure is about 15'
Thanks
Couldn't people get disoriented or throw up from this?
Its possible. No one did though. That is why this year's build will be checker pattern with mirrors involved.
How are you going to include mirrors

Sorry for the confusion. I just looked back at some pics and it was 3/4. It fit pretty nicely into the wheels. Thanks!
