Thank you for taking us back down memory lane by showing us some great examples of those classic bikes. Great video
Glad you enjoyed taking a look with us
Cracking video mate, am 63yrs old so no most of them lovely bikes😮
I'm 60 next year so I'm not far behind you. We just filmed the bikes we liked ourselves, some stunning machinery for sale 👍👍 Thanks for watching
I like hearing the stories behind bikes at motorcycle auctions, I usually get to the auctions a day before they to hear the stories.
Richard if you get that car like BMW scooter that would historically funny.
Great job showing a lot of beautiful motorcycles you and Carol are always entertaining.
We had the catalogue with us that gave more details on the bikes, trouble is neither Carol or myself took our reading glasses and couldn't give a fuller description as we walked around. (Rookie error!)
Unfortunately lots of the bikes are sold by the estates of former owners, unfortunately passed on.
That BMW scooter would certainly be a talking point on the channel, might be nice to buy a classic or something a little unusual or funny.
Thanks again for watching, I'm lucky to have Carol so interested in bikes and happy to participate in this UA-cam stuff.
Good video thanks. I like your chat and comments.
Appreciate you saying👍👍 We're just a couple who love riding, looking at and talking about motorcycles.
Thanks for stopping by the channel
Nice to see the fantastic classics. Thanks both.
Thanks for watching Steve, we are increasingly drawn to the classics. Some beauties on sale here.
Richard and Carol ,nice walk round the auction . the nice Suzuki G T 750 in orange ,7 minutes in ,we had one identical back in the day . When our son Chris was about 3 ,he is 50 now , i bought and fitted a used Watsonian G P Sports sidecar to it . we went to the isle of man tt . the very day after fitting it . Cyril Heath the manager at Watsonian then ,sorted the correct fittings out and i took notes on how to go about fitting it . after 2 attempts it rode o k and so off we went . the G T 750 pulled from right low down the rev range and i dont remember it being over thirsty on fuel either .
That GT 750 is the bike I would love to own. To be honest I've never seen one with a sidecar. Watsonian are a special bit of kit, bet the outfit got plenty of attention
Wow there were quite a few stunning classics there and some of them not too pricey. Thanks for sharing them with us allowing us all to take a trip down memory lane 👍😀
The biggest surprise for us was the bikes weren't stupidly expensive. You would need to add 15% auction fee to the price but definitely affordable for some great looking machines.
Thanks again for watching, always good to hear from you.
@@Banditmanuk Cheers Richard and Carol, likewise it's always great to hear from yourselves 👍😀 Adding 15% auction fees I'd forgot about that, that adds a fair bit to the more expensive bikes. Do they also add VAT as well ?
@@greywolf9292 Think VAT is on the 12.5 % action fee taking it to 15% Don't think they can charge Vat on the whole bike as that's done just once when the bike was sold new. Mostly the reason you lose so much selling a newish bike
@@Banditmanuk Thanks for the explanation 👍😀
😍 had to have a little private moment while watching that. The RGV250 was, and still is a dream bike of mine, the noise, the smell and the performance just perfect, if only had the money.
Great vid, got me very excited for the weekend 😎👍
🤣🤣 Glad you enjoyed it. The auction certainly got us thinking that maybe a nice 70s 80s or 90s bike might be the thing to own. Some were affordable.
Hope you’re enjoying the brilliant weather out on the bikes. Have a great long weekend
Wow 😮 made me realise how much money 💰 I lost by not holding on to every bike I’ve owned lol 😂 another good watch as ever 🙏😎🤘
Yep, know what you mean. Trouble is the classic bike survivors don't get ridden much and I like riding more than collecting
Whoever got the TDR for that price must feel pretty chuffed with themselves 😱
Really good video guys, shame you didn't take anything home with you 😉
Yes, lots of tempting stuff. Really our first look at motorcycle auctions so it's got us thinking perhaps.....
Great video. Well done for putting the sold price on the screen.
Thanks, we were interested what these bikes sold for so thought everyone else would. Appreciate you watching
Ahhh the AP50 my first love when everyone else around me had Fizzys, 1976 no pedals, unrestricted and red…up to 60mph downhill with the wind behind me or so I always claimed 😅
Those were great days 👍👍
i would have bought the TDR 250...............very rare here in the 'States...........wb
Yep a good choice. Back in 81 I owned an RD250LC, loved the two stroke motor.
Awesome
Cheers Thumper
Great video
Really appreciate you taking the time to leave us a comment.
I paid £250 pound for my Suzuki AP50 in 1978 then bought a brand new X7 for £750
I cannot remember what my second hand FS1E was in 79 but think my RD250LC was just a bit over £1K folks are asking crazy money now for them. Two mates both had X7s, I needed the LC to propel my bulk just to keep up! Appreciate you watching Mark. Cheers
A pure bike paradise. In the 1960s Harley-Davidson produced the Harley-Davidson Aermacchi at the plant Schiranna (near Varese). They created several models of small bikes. The one that Carol mentioned is probably one of those produced in that factory. If you ask me... I would go for the Honda CB750K1 from 1972. Wonderful video Richard. Enjoyed it very much.
Thanks Gregor, we found the auction really interesting
@@Banditmanuk I see. Some were already sold I think. :)
My first bike was an SS50 in 1976, £225 brand new.
Then I bought a CB250G5 second hand in 1977 for £430 when it was 18 months old.
Still riding, I have a small collection of classic Japanese bikes, including a Black, Purple and Pink FZR600 which I have owned for nearly 20 years.
My old timers are a CB360G from 1973 and a DT3 Enduro 250 from 1972.
Some cracking bikes there!
Lots of folks have fond memories of their first moped. Mine was an FS1E, a 76 machine but owned by me from 79. I had managed to aquire a damaged SS50 which I used on my dad's farm before I could ride on the road.
You sound like you have a great collection, keep on riding and thanks for watching
Thank you
Welcome 👍
great video, well put together
Appreciate you saying. Cheers
Nice work guys. I'm 67 now and have ridden about 25% of the bikes you showed. Can't ride any more sadly. Inner ear damage has left me with dodgy balance. I would give just about anything to be able to ride again.
Thanks very much. So sorry to hear you are unable to ride. I'm a little younger at 59 and having ridden since I was 16, I would find it really difficult not being able to ride again.
They had some beautiful machines for sale, I would have loved to be able to ride many of them. If I'm honest we make our riding vids as a personal record of our time riding, something to look back at in years to come. It's just nice a few others enjoy watching as well.
Great video love how you put up the prices great idea.
Thanks, I will credit Carol for the idea and time spent finding out the prices and adding the graphics.
Very informative nice video 👍
Thanks John, nice to hear you enjoyed it
Love your videos, although I don't know a lot about motorcycles. Is there a reason why we seldom see vintage BMW motorcycles from the 50's in your videos. Perhaps they weren't very popular after the war, but I would have expected to see a few, but I don't see any.
Love how you both present your videos. Keep up the great work. 😊
Interesting question. Honestly we don't see that many at the shows. I'm personally more drawn to the 70s & 80s bikes that I can remember seeing on the road and we probably concentrate more on those.
We're at the Stafford Classic in another week, so I'll keep a special look out for the BMWs
Que lindos vídeos preciosas motos saludos Rafa de mardel plata Argentina
Muchas gracias por ver todo el camino en Argentena. nos encanta el aspecto de estas motocicletas. Los mejores deseos de Richard y Carol
A nice video, but how could you walk past the AJS 7R, Manx Nortons and Goldstars without comment - sacrilege 😉
Oops, sorry Tim. I tend to focus on slightly more modern classics because I have at least a passing knowledge and memory of them originally on the road (I'm 59) Lots of bikes in there. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Best regards Richard
@@Banditmanuk You’re forgiven 😉
@@timparish172 😁😁
I could see you too on Honda Cubs touring the world, would make for great watching 😂
I’m surprised that GT500 didn’t sell 😬
I love the headlights on that Ducati 748👍
Can always count on seeing an RD of some size on your channel 🤘
Ahhh the CBX1000 is a piece of art, absolutely stunning.
Mate of mine just brought a katana but it needs a bit of work, decent bikes but definitely no looker 😂
The VTR SP-1 is a bit of me for sure, lovely looking bikes 🤘
Great video guys, some awesome looking bikes and not all of them are that badly priced 🤘
Yep some great bikes there. Not sure my home mechanic self could cope with maintaining a bank of 6 carburettors on the CBX 1000. The GT750 Two stroke appeals most but a Honda Cub is so simple that a hammer and screwdriver fixes most things. (Carol says it would be too sloooo for her!)
Again congratulations on the 1000 + subs on your channel, thanks for watching and best wishes
Thanks for another day out.
The sale prices seem reasonable to me. Those silly prices from years ago, are gone. I am very surprised some of these didn't sell.
The same bikes fetch more over here in the States? It was always the other way around.
No problem, thanks for watching.
Yes, we were quite surprised at how reasonable prices were. I still see owners asking stupid money on private adverts, but that doesn't mean they get what they want. An auction is a better way to judge market value.
Ohh boy have I got the hots for a kettle or an H2 the GT being the more affordable as ever guys but what an interesting one some really good prices there I am guessing there is premium on top of those sold prices I would guess at 20to 25% on top depending on the auction house that did it but how dangerous would that be on the day I think you would have to leave all cards at home or strap your hands to your sides 😊just fabulous 👌👍
Those prices weren't too bad, sold prices are a little different to what some owners might want if they were trying to sell privately. The fee was 12.5% plus Vat taking the fee to 15%. Still not too bad considering the beautiful detailed catalogue and the work involved by the auction house.
We are tempted to visit more auctions, could get expensive 😀 😄
Thanks again watching
@@Banditmanuk Now that's pretty good @15% Richard not bad at all .👍
Good video Richard/Carol enjoyed it!! Cannot believe some of the high prices, some bikes demand. I used to own a GT750 back in the day, really nice bike, I think I’m living in the past with some of the prices though, comes with age I suppose!!
To be honest, we thought the prices weren't too bad, especially compared to new bike inflation. I would love to have tried a GT750. Probably a little bit early for me but a lovely machine.
@@Banditmanuk Hi Richard, thanks for the comments, I think your right comparing the prices to brand new bikes, but I remember being able to buy scooters for like a fiver, although that was in the late sixties, I bought a chopped LAMBRETTA for like fifteen quid, yes the GT750 was a lovely bike nice and smooth, although not fast by todays standards, probably about 120 flat out. I always fancied the Z1 Kawasaki never had one though. I did own an brand new 1999 R1 a few years ago, now that was a lovely bike, I was most impressed with the engine, best engined vehicle I have ever owned so much Torque, I should imagine your bike would be on par with that these days?
@@japfourme381 Yep I imagine my MT10 is a similar power to your old R1 at 150-160 bhp. Love the engine in the MT, its nuts really and justs wants to wheelie everywhere.
I was buying cheap scooters and C90s to rat around the fields in the 70s for pocket money. Great days
Interesting video, thanks for the upload. Prices of 'classic' bikes do seem to be softening following demand over recent years - older Brit bikes in particular. Maybe it's a demographic thing, cost of living etc but in most cases the bikes you featured sold for less than estimate (and many others didn't sell at all). I think this also applies to classic cars - it doesn't really matter if you love it, but I reckon the days of a fast buck are well and truly over.
Yep, lots of truth in what you're saying. Think the higher demand comes from the guys who want to re-live their youth (like me at 59)
I suspect many 'junk' barn find classics aren't worth as much as many people would like to think. I've a mate currently restoring a CB750 and has already spent a fortune on parts.
Some changes when I was 19 my CBX wa£1500 in 1987''gsxr 1100 was the new king of the road 🛣️ now a Honda is big money 🤑 like all the older big 1000cc bikes ,,☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
Yep 👍 They're big money because the older generation become nostalgic. They want to own the bike they bought back then or wanted back then but couldn't afford.
Thanks for watching from beautiful northern Ireland
Some cool bikes there and for a lot less money than I'd thought. Were you tempted to bid?
Now we've found that prices aren't that high for a decent classic we're tempted next time
A sign of things to come
Pedals on my new AP in 77 R reg last year of unrestricted. Maybe that was an import 4 speed?
Brochure says it's an A50P. It says it's UK registered and a 5 speed. Bit of a mystery why it's got no pedals?? Didn't sell so perhaps others were asking that question 🤔
@@Banditmanuk yeah probably as the pedal one is an AP50M.
AP50 was the moped A50P was the motorcycle version if my memory serves me correctly. 😊
Brillant . My be it's my age but why spend all them notes on new, when you could get a stunner for less than half the price.
Thanks Malcolm. You know Carol and I were just saying that this morning. 👍👍👍👍
Most of them are more expensive than a new bike.
@Ron White Think it depends what new bike you are buying but at least these will hold their value or appreciate
So the Hurricane was a replica and a T150 based one at that, ha not worth looking at then.
Suzuki GT500 was nice, I can just imagine a copper saying 'who do you think you are? Barry Sheene? 🤣
Called a tribsa
Got to watch out at auctions as the price you bid is not what you pay with vat added on and fees i ended up paying a extra £2500 . Cheers mate
The catalogue stated 15% fee which included vat on the fee. Certainly something you need to consider. Still some reasonable prices in there in my opinion 🤔
It's alright buying an old bike but if you can't find spares they are not a lot of good.
I wouldn't have one for nothing.
I had a 1975 Yamaha RD 250.
I would still be riding it today if I could I loved that bike but in 1988. I could no longer buy spares for it. I had to scrap it after a taxi driver hit it.
It's a very good point you make. Obviously, the worldwide web helps in searches, but rare parts come with a high price tag.
I had the same RD200, in the same colour. Brand new April 78.
Can’t remember how much I paid for it. But my new FS1E DX in April 77, cost me £235.
Plenty of my mates went exactly the same route, both great bikes 👍👍
Own a classic .buy new now,. keep 30 to 40 years then sell .classic
A nice strategy, unfortunately I'll be dead and gone by then!
Hi bandit monk ,you have some bad sound through your vid
Zero idea what you're on about?
