That CGI was so cutting-edge that I can't even tell what's real. We have indeed crossed the uncanny valley, and can no longer tell whether or not Tom is actually in a period-perfect Robin Hood outfit firing a proper bodkin arrow into the bullseye of a medieval archery target.
Sometimes, I imagine a reality where Tom doesn't do his own editing, and really all of the things that come off as jokes are just Quinns making fun of him while cutting the shots together.
The production value of the review on this is amazing as always, even though the game is not the type I would normally go for I watched the entire review because of the clearly huge effort put in by Tom, Top draw reviews as always guys!
Got this for Christmas, so the family played it over the past couple of days, and we’re hooked. Casual players all, for us it totally works, and we are super excited for more adventures alongside Robin and his gang. 😊
I love SUSD when it hits the humour target in the bullseye. Part self deprecation, part satire and part absurdist. This is a fine example of the art in action.
I recently got a copy of "The Downfall of Pompeii" from a liquidation store and was super surprised by how fun and approachable it was, despite how outdated and plain it seemed from the onset (and admittedly a bit through playing it). It's from the dude who made Carcassonne. Kind of been my go to reference game when talking about the "family game" category. Definately good analysis of that game though. I feel like you hit the subtler points that would be otherwise glazed over by typical video reviewers.
Tom’s really been on a roll of finding his voice in the last few videos. I feel like I understand his sense of humor on a very visceral level now, and I love it.
Tom! You've done it again! Truly appreciate the artistry and panache with which you pull off these reviews. And to all of the rest of the SU&SD team, thank you too for the podcasts and reviews. You set the bar for entertainment, bar none.
I love the little detail that the entire shot was taken in his parents house (because its a family game) and he breaks into it at the beginning (because he braught the game to them) ... :-D So clever and subtle! Kudos!
It seems like Legends of Andor (also from Kosmos) provides a lot of the crunchier elements of this type of game while still having really streamlined rules and a fantastic tutorial that makes it really friendly for those not as immersed in "board games".
When Tom said that the doors on the board reminded him of Advent Calendars, I immediately had to agree, because, after looking at one be pulled once, I immediately got the flavor of bad chocolate in my mouth, so that’s something…
I really wish Pandemic Legacy had used a board like this one to keep track of its changing board situation. This seems like the real innovation here. Maybe they can make another Pandemic spinoff that allows for a campaign game that keeps its board state between games but can be reset at the end.
I've been looking forward to the game, but the review made me think twice. And well, that is what reviews are for, I'd rather buy Creature Comforts this december :)
seems like a game that will benefit from expansions that more creatively use the exvellently simple mechanics of play. a bit like Arkham Horror LCG whete the core box scenarios are kinda not as good or interesting as what has followed.
The game review was fine and all, but that turntable!!! Nice choice, Tom. And, no, I didn't compliment you because I have that same turntable! That would be quite self-aggrandizing of me.
I like the idea of turn order by pulling from a bag. You could do some tetris stuff and pull out all but one, then refill with one of each, giving the possibility of a double turn kinda thing. Now I want to somehow do D&D initiative in this way. Slow the game down I guess.
Came for the thumbnail, stayed for the Jizzborne pun, liked for the review. Also the game goo sound effects are cursed and Tom should be promoted for including them.
Man, a second edition could be amazing. Get a QR code un the underside of those flipped tokens to run an high production audio narrative from an app, spruce up the story.
man do I need your letterbox'd Tom, between seeing uncut gems stuff, you talking about Ghost Story (I think on a podcast episode) and totally agreeing on your take on the greatest showman. I think we would have similar tastes
You should take a look at Legends of Andor, another series of cooperative games designed by Michael Menzel. I see a few similarities in the design of the two games, but in Legends of Andor, I feel like the mechanics are much more complete and the gameplay is very captivating. At times it feels similar to an rpg game where you collect ressources and get stronger, but each game always and in a complex puzzle where you need to find a way to complete every mission with the turns you have left, while still having to defend the castle from monsters. Each game you embark on a different quest that progresses the storyline and changes the objectives and challenges completely. The game design is very impressive and somehow every victory feels like an extremely close and deserved one. Please check it out
Thought I saw a Boris album in the background around the 6 min. mark. I'm now thinking Boris references this album/pays homage to it. Anyone know what it is?
This looks like a wonderful game for a spiritual successor- I love the design of that board and the idea of flipping over, but everything around it is bland.
Love the Monty Python horseback riding, but you didn't dismount and I didn't see any coconuts in your hands. I just assumed every Brit has a pair of coconuts for spontaneous Monty Python references.
Just finished the game with my girlfriend, we both loved it! Giving it a break then playing it for a second time, new text to the story and adds more weight.
I was only mildly interested in this game when I entered. But I was not disappointed by the time this video was over. So fantastic. Now I want to see Tom review “The Greatest Showman”. I have a similar disdain for how lauded that movie was by everyone I know.
The "teach". The "ask". The "spend". [ sigh ] As a descriptive linguist, bring it on! English evolves! As a crummy old man, f* this noise. Teach is not a noun. Also, "...standard Green-boy antics; you know th' drill." Brilliant.
Why not use photoshop? I love GIMP, but your team does so much video and design I'm just surprised you're not using CC. It must mean you're not using After Effects or Premiere, either. What platforms do you use for shtuff like that? Please, tell me you use blender and VSDC or openshot, or something like that.
Thanks for this slightly negative review. I play solo, and I wanted to buy it in German. I felt I would learn some German while also enjoying the game. At one point in this vlog, you asked, So Why am I reviewing it? Hey! You are helping people like me decide whether we want to play it, and you did that very well. Personally, you've convinced me that it's worth buying in German, but there's not enough campaign excitement to justify playing it in English. Thanks. - toby
It might be my old eye but i swear he had a picture in the background of that girl form the ring playing a guitar. My heartrate actually went up as that movie freaked me out.
It’s Tom,
It’s Tom in tights,
He roams around the forest looking for fights
Fights! Fights!
Always on guard, defending the people’s rights.
That CGI was so cutting-edge that I can't even tell what's real. We have indeed crossed the uncanny valley, and can no longer tell whether or not Tom is actually in a period-perfect Robin Hood outfit firing a proper bodkin arrow into the bullseye of a medieval archery target.
I'm convinced Tom is actually a 100% deep fake fictitious person.
Just when I thought Tom couldn't get hotter he whips out this ensemble.
Is it his tactility?
I loved the way the green spandex clung to what I'm assuming are his beefy, bulging pectoral muscles.
😄
Sometimes, I imagine a reality where Tom doesn't do his own editing, and really all of the things that come off as jokes are just Quinns making fun of him while cutting the shots together.
Tom always shows up with a kind of chaos that makes his reviews my favorite
I do like the Brewster Boi
he had me at "WAAAA... tergate"
I think he has more of the chaos of old-school SUSD, and I love it.
I like them all but my favourite is the Quinns/Matt combo. Not really possible right now, I suppose.
Finally, you've hired a cgi specialist to match your writing!
Gamesake had me dying. 👍
The visuals for that Greatest Showman bit had me hooting and hollering. I love this.
The production value of the review on this is amazing as always, even though the game is not the type I would normally go for I watched the entire review because of the clearly huge effort put in by Tom, Top draw reviews as always guys!
If only Tom had used the correct accent for the times like Kevin Costner did.
Got this for Christmas, so the family played it over the past couple of days, and we’re hooked. Casual players all, for us it totally works, and we are super excited for more adventures alongside Robin and his gang. 😊
Really happy to see a massive increase in the VFX budget for Shut Up & Sit Down's reviews.
Wow the smooth jazz as the arrow dallies past the accoutrements of the game was a very nice touch.
And the subtle “whoosh” of wind as the bolt sails through the air.
@8:00 it bothers me way too much that the title on the book binding is upside down.
You aren't alone.
I like that Robin Hood. Such a good boy who always waits his turn.
“…*aggressively* public domain” I’m dead lol
"Guy Jizz-bourne" made me laugh way too much.
I love SUSD when it hits the humour target in the bullseye. Part self deprecation, part satire and part absurdist. This is a fine example of the art in action.
I like the thought that Quinn’s slowly tortures and beats down the other presenters until they start speaking and acting like him.. like a clone army
My favorite advent calendars are the lego ones
You seen the EXIT one?
@@photoben Nah, mate. Sorry.
Such *crunchy* treats

Definately good analysis of that game though. I feel like you hit the subtler points that would be otherwise glazed over by typical video reviewers.
At first I thought he was doing a cheesy British accent for the video, then I remembered he's British.
I would be super impressed if Tom could build a canal between Belper and Leek.
Unreal how good these editing jokes are. Tom's videos are brilliant comedy skits in the genre of board game reviews.
I was so invested in that arrow flight and the saucepan-gong sound-effect was perfect. Bravo 👏🏼
I love the little detail that the entire shot was taken in his parents house (because its a family game) and he breaks into it at the beginning (because he braught the game to them) ... :-D
So clever and subtle! Kudos!
I think this vid actually sold me this game. If only it would sell me a family to play with as well...
The goop under the board uh advent calendar door thing noooooooo
Was it honey or maple syrup, or something else? We will never know for sure
It seems like Legends of Andor (also from Kosmos) provides a lot of the crunchier elements of this type of game while still having really streamlined rules and a fantastic tutorial that makes it really friendly for those not as immersed in "board games".
Its by the same creator (Michael Menzel)! And yeah i def picked up on the similarities as well.
Your videos have gotten so much more delightful as you've become more confident/comfortable. Thank you for your work!
Great review. The game looks great and i am so glad for your review.
What an odd review for an odd game. Thank you for reviewing, and bringing great energy to the table with it.
"it's what makes this game 60% novel, weird and satisfying to touch with your real hands." Tom's chat up lines are getting good!
When Tom said that the doors on the board reminded him of Advent Calendars, I immediately had to agree, because, after looking at one be pulled once, I immediately got the flavor of bad chocolate in my mouth, so that’s something…
Keep using that Supermarket Sweep music, Tom!
When you hear that beep...
@@sneakysimian it's Supermarket Sweep!
Kudos for the Nick Drake vinyl
Yep yep yep!
I got excited when I spotted that! I've got all of his albums--they're all so wonderful.
Every millisecond of that arrow peacefully soaring across the camera at the end had me laughing out loud.
Loving the nich drake album in the background at 12:12
Again a great balance of humor and information. Thanks !
The amount of effort put into the costume design is out of this world.
11:42 Thank you. This slide was very helpful in my understanding of the review. I would not have rather seen B-roll of vaguely Hugh Jackman things.
You can’t build a canal between Belper and Leek, rail only!
I really wish Pandemic Legacy had used a board like this one to keep track of its changing board situation. This seems like the real innovation here. Maybe they can make another Pandemic spinoff that allows for a campaign game that keeps its board state between games but can be reset at the end.

As always. A great review. Somehow I end up buying every game you guys recommend.
Your newfound love for bits about pouring jelly over boards and pieces both amuses me and disturbs me.
Thanks, I hate it!
Great review Tom. Hope your family are very proud of all the hard work you do.
Summary:
"Look at how interesting this game is."
"This game is disappointing and not interesting."
"To each their own."
seems like a game that will benefit from expansions that more creatively use the exvellently simple mechanics of play.
a bit like Arkham Horror LCG whete the core box scenarios are kinda not as good or interesting as what has followed.
I've got it, it's the Supermarket Sweep theme! Oh, what a relief.
Great review. Very helpful with making a decision on this particular game.
5:44 - Prumple Crubes have to be my favorite game component.
The game review was fine and all, but that turntable!!! Nice choice, Tom. And, no, I didn't compliment you because I have that same turntable! That would be quite self-aggrandizing of me.
Oooh! Classic Doctor Who special effects with the arrow! I approve!
Reasons why I watched is:
20% because of the game
80% because of Tom's shenanigans in the video
I'm a big fan of Robin Hood so I'm glad what Time said about it. Sounds like it's perfect for my wife and me.
The Top Gear of board games seems to have hit its 7th season stride. Lets just be sure Quinn doesn’t punch a BBC executive and keep these comin’.
I like the idea of turn order by pulling from a bag. You could do some tetris stuff and pull out all but one, then refill with one of each, giving the possibility of a double turn kinda thing. Now I want to somehow do D&D initiative in this way. Slow the game down I guess.

Respect for the Bryter layter LP in the background!
Tom there is no canal connection between Belper and Leek
Man, a second edition could be amazing. Get a QR code un the underside of those flipped tokens to run an high production audio narrative from an app, spruce up the story.
Seeing Bryter Later in the background was a real treat
Showed this to my VFX friends and asked "who is that clown?" and I said "England" "Well, from the circus " ._.
This reminds of when I spent the entire Dune review wondering why Quinns has a wet-suit, because now I’m wondering why Tom has a green-man suit.
man do I need your letterbox'd Tom, between seeing uncut gems stuff, you talking about Ghost Story (I think on a podcast episode) and totally agreeing on your take on the greatest showman. I think we would have similar tastes
The highlight for me is the Nick Drake album displayed in the background.
Lovely review, shout out to the Nick Drake "Bryter Layter" Vinyl in the background for superb taste
i see that companion book back there. you cant hide from that review forever!!!
If only I could have been given this as my advent calendar as a child. Or now.
What is the replayability like? I assume once you know what's under each tile you can't shuffle them or anything...

I really thought that lamp was going to go over.
The game looks interesting to me though... And can I just say that every video from this channel is like a Christmas gift ❤️
The cursed advent calendar goop made me laugh so hard
Bon Iver poster in the Cubitos review, Nick Drake record here. Just now realizing that Tom is a Sad Boi.
Extra points for the Nick Drake record in the background
Thanks for the great work. Keep on going for many years! :-)

nice to see Nick Drake's Bryter Layter in the background. always nice to a good review as well.
They blew the budget for special effects
I can see Tom playing Friar Tuck or someone else from the Merry Men in a RH show.
HOLD ON! a calendar before December I'm in!
Whenever Mr. Gump asks me if I want to play a Robin Hood game, I say "I Sherwood Forest"- thanks to Steve from Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast
This looks like a wonderful game for a spiritual successor- I love the design of that board and the idea of flipping over, but everything around it is bland.

It's behind the spam.
Just finished the game with my girlfriend, we both loved it! Giving it a break then playing it for a second time, new text to the story and adds more weight.
Off topic: I bought your "don't get got" and would really like to play it. Can you make the pandemic disappear please? Kind regards!
That Robin Hood costume looks great.

Where’s Max Gland?!?! What did Quinns do to him?!?! Is he ok?!?!

Cary Elwes watching this video: "It's like looking into a mirror."
The same music as every video from viva la dirt league
I was also waiting for "Nice day for fishin', ain't it?" as well :D
