    Its quality gear no doubt. My wife loves her heated jacket. That huge power block is also useful for powering all manor of electrical gadgetry while away or camping. We choose to power the jacket from the bikes battery when riding as that large hard battery could cause injury in the event of a crash.

      It’s a real good investment mate! Being warm without having so many layers that your jacket might burst is a proper luxury! So far I’m very pleased with the commuting performance. Sadly still haven’t managed to get out of the city yet. Blasted adulting getting in the way of the important stuff!!

  • @johnward3490

    Keis stuff is brilliant all the layering can’t beat heated kit. I just use merino base layer and keis waistcoat down to zero degrees cheers

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  2 роки тому +1

      I’m tending towards agreeing with you!! Not feeling like a tightly packed sausage really is a victory! I’m finding that i still need a light fleece layer as well as the jacket liner. But then i do have ZERO wind protection, so a single fleece versus EVERYTHING I OWN is a massive step up for me!! 🤣

  • @mikeybikey106
    @mikeybikey106 2 роки тому

    Tried the waist coat and battery scenario but changed to the full keis jacket which has heated sleeves and neck and the gloves connect neatly to the cuff on the jacket and then both are powered directly by the bike rather than a 3-4hr battery. Importantly, if you are going to just rely on the jacket and a base layer for heat , make sure you keep a set of spare fuses in the pockets . My fuse blew and i had a couple of very cold riding hours !!

  • @cpuuk
    @cpuuk 2 роки тому +1

    I like KEIS kit :-) The jacket temp is actually hotter than you think. I can go all day (8 hours +) and still stay toasty on low. Only small downside is that you can feel the battery on the left.

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  2 роки тому

      I’m a convert too. More for the vest so far. Though with the arms unheated, I’m still finding the right balance of what to wear under the outer jacket in order to stay warm all over! First proper ride out of the city today and at 1 degree C I managed to stay warm with just the jacket liner and a base layer. Until the battery died after 2 and a bit hours of full power, that is! The battery is a bit bulky on the left, but I’ve discovered that the cable is exactly the right length to put it in the left thigh pocket of my Rukka Kalavesi trousers!! 👍🏻

    I've been using Gerbing heated gloves for four years now. This year I treated myself to their full inner jacket and it's an absolute game changer - I've even taken the liner out of the bike jacket, as recommended by Gerbing. Mine are plumbed into the bike battery. Combined with some battery powered heated socks I bought last year and there's no such thing as cold weather anymore. A snug fit, not tight, is a must for the jacket.

Also bought the accessory lead with DIN plug to attach me to my Beemer. Took advantage of the Black Friday 20% off deal - still £170 odd, mind! It's a bit salty that one has to shell out £45 for the controller on top of the cost of the vest 😕. Still, looking forward to trying it out - have a 100 mile run down to Plymouth looming. Should be a good test... Oh, and when researching, EVERYONE advised going down 1 or even 2 sizes from your usual to get the correct fit. Emailed the company after finding Hong Kong wasn’t on the addresses and that was changed within days on the website - impressed. However, after reading the details they state in bold that the jacket should be powered by the bike. You used the battery without issues. I emailed them twice without reply. Are you still using the battery without issue? (My commute is 1hr each way)

      Hi! I’ve actually got the waistcoat, which draws less power than the full sleeved jacket. I’ve been using the waistcoat a lot with the battery and tend to get between 2 and 3 hours of use from it (the 5600 mah battery). I’m pretty sure that the full jacket will work with the battery, you’ll just have greatly reduced run times. I would say probably about a quarter. Hope this helps!

      To enable us to continue to ride, as simple as that (I personally hate having large gaps between rides so this helps minimise that problem). Remember, even riding at say medium single digit ambient air temps can mean with wind chill, you're experiencing seriously negative degrees C, which can be dangerous to your core temps and ability to operate the controls and maintain attention...! Love those dry, sunny winter rides, if you can keep warm!! :) :D

    It's my knees and lower legs that get cold first, followed by my hands and face........an average motorcycle cordura type jacket, though, rarely gets cold enough to warrant a heated vest.

    • @mattmutane5502
      @mattmutane5502 2 роки тому +1

      The theory goes, and so far I'd say my own experience is leaning towards agreeing, is that if you heat the core, the extremities will feel warmer. It's a little bit counter-intuitive, but if you think about it it makes sense.. :)

    • @AndyManCam
      @AndyManCam  2 роки тому

      Makes perfect sense. In fact as a defense measure, when your core gets cold the blood vessels to your extremities are constricted. This stops the blood from being cooled as it runs out and back from your arms and legs and therefore keeps the heat in your core. So you could argue @tonebonetones, that your legs are actually getting cold because your core already started hogging the heat for itself!

    • @tonebonetones
      @tonebonetones 2 роки тому +2

      Not necessarily. The knees, lower legs on many bikes are taking most of the wind chill. The knees have very little fat tissue to provide any insulation, and very little blood supply unlike the upper leg muscles, and once cold soaks into the bones and ligaments of your knee it is grim.. Your core could be uncomfortably hot, but it is very doubtful the warm blood supply to the legs would be hot enough to over come serious cold and wind chill on the knee lower leg. If it's cold, and I need to take the bike out, I wear tracksuit bottoms and thick, armoured overpants. I also have jeans with knee armour,, which you would think would protect the knee from some cold, but on a cold day they are insufficient.
      Therefore, my point was that it is very rarely, I feel cold in my torso, and my unheated jacket combined with its inner layer is fine. A heated track suit bottom, however, would arguably be as much, if not more, beneficial than a heated vest.

    • @AndyManCam

    • @mattmutane5502

      @@tonebonetones Interesting. It also very much depends on what bike you are riding and which parts of your body are directly exposed to the frontal wind blast! I always try to have a bike with at least some leg protection (to avoid the need to stop to put waterproof trousers on if it starts raining), and on my MT10 sit quite upright, so hands and chest take the worst of the blast!)
