- Hey!
Keeping this restoration going. Its time to straighten out the neck pickup (see part 1).
Thanks to everyone who reached out with their suggestions as well.
This is a crude way to get the job done, but it has worked for me many times
Enjoy this video and stay tuned for more updates!
PEACE!

Excellent! 👍🎶🎶
well i learned something today, thanks nick.
Great job Nik! I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing it all done!
Every day is a school day, Brother. One day closer to putting that Beast back together.
I like how you're not afraid to tackle a problem like this. Nice fix!👍😎🎸🎶
That is EXACTLY how to wax pot a pickup. No need for anything super fancy. Just time, knowledge and love of your instrument. Well, wax.... Gotta have wax... Lol Good job as usual brother . Won't be long now and she will be done !!
Alligator clips! Put those on your birthday list! :) Thanks for the videos!
Man these videos keep getting better. Nice job Nik
Great stuff Nik. Really enjoyed that and appreciate the depth and detail you go into as always. Keep up the good work.
Nice! That Tele is going to be great 👍
I can't help but think of "Hooked on Phonics" every time I hear Microphonic. My parents never ordered the infomercial program. Grate vidDeoh aZ all waze Nik! 😉😂
That call to Joel was interesting, relaxing to work toward better tone
Amazing work and result Nik! You just inspired me to work on 5 of my 14 guitars!
Nice job Nik. I made my own pick ups and I used 60% paraffin wax 40% bees wax, let them sit in the pot for ten minutes or so and they sound as good as any I've heard. It's great to see someone so passionate about their instruments and to know they're well looked after, appreciate your vids too man
That was interesting to see play out.
I love your videos and everything you do on your channel buddy. Thank you Nik.!!! You are a badass dude and a KILLER, KILLER Player. I really enjoy your playing and style a lot. Definitely SRV inspired but very unique and original.!!
Learning so much from you Nik....Thx !!
Great video Nik I never have potted a pup but sure is nice to know in case I have to some day.
Also you have to put the waxed cover on while the wax is still liquid and hot to make sure the cover is tightly seal to the top of the bobbin.
Using rubber washers on the pickup screws instead of the springs helps too.
Great stuff, brother. Always dig watching you. Getting a new Tele myself. One of Butterscotch Tele's with the roasted maple neck and the Custom Shop Nocaster pickups. Just waiting til mid-November when it comes in.
Thanks for the waxing knowledge my freind 🤘⚡👀
I used surfboard wax, Mrs Palmers brand warm water formula inside the neck cover. Quiet and tight, not loose and wobbly,. Problem solved. I have another Telecaster neck pickup on another guitar that needs to be repacked, but it wasn't nearly as bad. Mrs Palmers surfboard wax is softer and more pliable than Gulfwax parafin. It's tackier as well.
Oh cool. Thank you for the heads up. Will look into some.. much appreciated
Those laquered pickups are always trouble....
Nice job I learned something after 60 years of playing. I noticed pick noise on my front pickup on my Tele so I'm taking it apart. I assume candle wax wont work...?
i
Great content :)
The neck pickup on my Esquire is dead silent :)
Judging by the comments here, it must have been wax potted, because that will apparently kill the tone!
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 hahahaha
Best to put a little strip of tape between the pole pieces and the cover before wax potting.
Hey Nik! Loving the series. Just re-watched it up until here, because I'm on the verge of buying a vintage tele. Is there any chance I could get your email to send you some pics so you could give me your opinion on the deal? Totally understand if it's a no, btw...
Cheers, mate. Keep it up!
Email in description! Happy to help
You really need to setup a vacuum in your potting setup. That will take all the air out of your pickup
Google PRO-WAX 100. An excellent wax potting device for a few dozen dollars. I've used it several times with great results. Plus my legs are nice and smooth now.
I'm surprised you use that weller solder iron, I used to go through those every two/three weeks $27 bucks..$27 bucks etc...over and over, finally bought a nice one it's been the best purchase i've made. i know this has nothing to do with anything important
It works great. Here im using it out of the stand. But i just keep it clean and dont leave it hot when not in use
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 I have used a weller forever too, no issues
I was thinking maybe alligator clips might work better in sted of soldering every time just an idea
Huh?
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 I was thinking instead of soldering Everytime attach clips to the hot lug and the ground
@@ems1354 I see what you’re saying but I also wanted to ensure a solid solder connection, basically simulating the wiring all done and I wanted to rule out any cold or semi secure connection, also the small leads that I kept soldering will be replaced as stated in the video
@@theriffwniksevigny5473 makes sense
You don’t know what you don’t know....ain’t that the truth.
