Going on 3 years with our Gen-Y gooseneck, almost 30k miles towing with it. Smooth ride, no chucking, easy to hookup/disconnect and no dang hitch in the bed of the truck. Love your new setup! So happy for you guys 🤍
You will love the tow experience. We have run a Reese Goosebox on our Reflection for a couple years and would never go back. GenY should be a cut above but 2 years back Lippert had not accepted them to not void the warranty. Towing is much smoother and solid feeling not to mention we love hookup and having our bed free! Happy and safe travels!
Great video and the music is not obnoxious like so many others on UA-cam. You two have great chemistry on camera. Looking forward to seeing your adventures
We installed the Gen Y on our GD 397TH. It has about 50k miles on it. I love it. Pulls smooth, soaks up a bunch of bumps. I wouldn’t say it’s “better” than some of the other premium offerings when it comes to being smooth, but it’s certainly as good as all of them and the other benefits blow the other connectors out of the water. I cannot imagine why an R.V. manufacturer wouldn’t use these or other gooseneck connections exclusively. Having full access to our bed without messing with a fifth wheel hitch has been amazing. I personally won’t own another RV without a Gen Y gooseneck connection. Many people will point out the warranty issues from the R.V. manufacturers when switching to the Gen Y. Well, they don’t stand behind the warranty with their fifth wheel heads either so….. Maybe with the Gen Y you won’t need the warranty.
We've had our Gen Y for a couple of years. It is outstanding! So nice to watch the nose of the fifth wheel move up and down and not feel the movement transferred to the truck.
You should put a little dab of good grease on the ball regardless of what others say. It'll help eliminate grinding noise and help with coupling release.
Have a gen y also. As a precaution to make sure it’s latched I always drop it on the ball till it locks and the lift my Alliance back up to ensure it’s locked on.
No will void the warranty. The Reese goosebox is the only approved gooseneck style pin box. They say they tested it to meet standards. But Reese is owned by lillert(frame mfg) so I think they are just trying to control the market
Question: I have a 2024 F350, do you notice that when in tow mode and you are using CarPlay with the map on and driving with a trailer that both the “Diesel and General” pages blank out? So: -While towing (this is only while going down the road) -using CarPlay maps to a location -in tow/haul mode -I loose both the diesel and general pages. If I flip back to normal driving both appear no problem. Great looking truck! I love the power from 6.7 HO. I have 4,400 miles. It’s a beast, towing a Brinkley Z3610 19,000 loaded! Good idea is to change your oil at 1,000 miles incase any initial debris is in there. I found that Shaffers is that oil that many diesel guys recommend.
That bed clearance @ 22:46 was a little too much for my liking. B&W has a Hi-Rise ball for an extra inch of clearance. Part Number: GNXA2050. Love the goosebox setup since you get your freakin' bed back!!! No more hitch space thank goodness!
One thing you have to do is check with the trailer manufacturer if the goose hitch is capable with your trailer or goth wheel that may void your warranty so check first and get it in writing.
I saw a video a couple weeks ago from i believe Grand Design talking about frame flex and they said that their frames are specifically made for the hitch that comes with the 5th wheel so i'm curious if this will cause you any problems?
I had to put 2” blocks on my axels and you have to use new u bolts too because the guy who bought it new had a 2 wheel drive dullay and my 1 ton dullay is 4 wheel drive .
Gen-Y and LCI are currently in discussions. Check out the video they made with Brinkley. Lots of great data. Also, we encourage you to speak with your RV manufacturer and make an informed decision that works for you. ☺️
It was definitely a consideration and we'll have to deal with that should anything come up. However, this has made an amazing difference. From the smoothness to having our full truck bed has made it worth it, IMO. With the amount of data that is out there, I hope that Gen-Y is certified for Lippert frames soon.
Great video. I am following as I am definitely thinking about the Gen-Y gooseneck before our summer hitch. So will be looking for your opinion before purchasing. Great job!
On the chain, it needs to rest in the longer part, that's why it looks like a cross, that is where the link is placed so it does not go in and out. When you guys were done, it looked like the link was resting in the pull through spot and not the locking spot.
I always buy a long bed truck to pull my 5th wheel because I want my goose or fithwheel hitch because I want the hitch straight up and down not where it is extended out a foot or more is not good and the thing a lot of these frame flex is worse. My hitch is straight up and down and not stretched out and the ride and handling is sweet .
You’ve got a little break-in on her before you compare… fresh engine. All the various UA-cams have indicated SD 6.7 does better on fuel efficiency. Congrats on the new F450, what a Beauty. Looking forward what 8 ft tonneau cover, not as many options as shorter boxes.

nice truck! I have a question about hooking up the safety chains. We have a RAM 3500 Limited and already switched to the GenY. Love having the bed of my truck back! We've been looking at switching to the Ford F450 and noticed that the Ford puck system is a little different than the RAM and it seems like it would be difficult to hook up the safety chains? I can reach the anchors from the rear of my RAM and was concerned that I might have to crawl in the bed of the truck to hook/unhook them on the Ford. LMK -Thanks!
Great question and yes, they are different. Coming from a RAM to the Ford, I noticed the same. The Ford has a much smaller footprint for the puck system than the RAM. If I had a traditional 5th wheel hitch, that would be great bc it would equate to more bed space. But with chains, it is difficult to reach them from the back side. Someone with long arms may be able to get it but I can't. I either have to get on the tailgate (which those side steps come in handy) or stand on the wheel. Granted, I'm not a tall guy so it may be easier for others. Most of the time, I have my son crawl up there or I stand on the side step and tire and reach over. One of those steps that hang on the tires would come in handy.
We need new things for the truck, she a good wife, lol, I love to see new mods, now I like that it is made in America I might have to look into one myself I can't wait to get your reviews on it, man your setup look good together.

Great timely video !!! We just had our new rig upgraded at MORryde with IS and we also decided to have a GEN Y hitch installed at a shop up there. Drove about 600 miles back down to Tennessee with no issues. Did have less chucking but the roads were so potholed not sure how much better the ride was. Did you get the BMW ball set? We didn’t get any shirts 😮. So there is not a need to do a pull test anymore right?
We still do the pull test, just to be sure. I bet the IS and Gen Y make for a great combination! We had the B&W ball set, but have since swapped it out for a taller ball so we could have a bit more clearance.
I would be concerned about switching from the factory fifth wheel hitch to the Gen-Y gooseneck, since it's not approved by Lippert. Especially with all of the issues people are having with broken frames, this type of hitch will make frame damage more likely because of the extra stress and twist it puts on the frame. In fact, you can see this torsion occur in your video, at 20:39 as the weight is transferred to the hitch, you can see the rear of the hitch dropping down, thus putting more tension on the back of the frame mount than the front, causing the frame to twist. I don't notice that with our factory fifth wheel hitch, the load appears to be applied much more vertically.
What you are seeing is not the frame flexing, it's the design of the hitch. The hitch has torsion built into it which allows the hitch to absorb way more impact than the standard hitch. Brinkley has done extensive research on this hitch as they partnered with Gen-Y and hired independent data engineers to conduct their tests. We appreciate the concern but are enjoying our new hitch.
@@1StrangeAdventure Cool, I certainly hope it works out long term for you and doesn't damage your frame. Personally, I wouldn't install it on mine unless and until Lippert approved it. As the frame manufacturer, Lippert has the best understanding of the stresses the frame can and cannot take.

Love your new F450. I have a 2015 F450 Platinum pulling my 44' Road Warrior Toyhauler. You should not grease your gooseneck ball. The only thing that might need a very little lube is the release if it is sticking. the ball and gooseneck is suppose to have friction to prevent sway also with give you better control with backing. Basically the same idea for your Reese hitch ball for towing a trailer. Just my 2 cents. Love the videos!
Grease the ball, hmm I'm a Comercial driver, drove 15 years pulling a gooseneck trailer, 26,000 lbs, you don't grease it, just replace your ball and hitch, all the time, it grinds the metal,
Think about. Driving a semi with fifthwheel plate, had to grease the plate, ever 30 days, basically, when dry, the plate and trailer will grind together, just imagine, on a slick road, you be one long unit, with no pivot, on the hitch, just go straight, or lock in a turn,, hmm
It’s nice to do your own work and save sum money but if a problem they will always ask who installed it and when you say you did they play off that to cause you Grief so for liability have your dealer install it and if any thing goes wrong it’s all on the dealer not you because you did not go to school to install that new hitch.
