- One year ago I had this idea to make a video while in quarantine. I was feeling pretty down about the passing of Neil Peart and about the Pandemic...I needed to be creative and play! I contacted Alex and Ra about doing a Rush song and video and they both liked the idea. I felt that they were probably feeling the same way I was, and that this would be a great way of jamming and entertaining while we were stuck home. The response to the initial video was overwhelming! It really made us feel good during a bad time. A whole year ago...I cant believe it! It ended up being a year of making music and videos after all; I now have a record that's coming out May 14 with most of the Jams. The Rush songs will be out on a special EP on Record store day in November. This song will be included on that. Subdivisions is probably in every Rush fan’s top 10 songs, definitely one of their best. The keyboards dominate this tune and Neil's sound on it is so unique! His drum fills are so precise and powerful...like little hooks throughout the song, an air drummer’s dream! The lyrics tell a tale of life in the burbs and being shunned when you don't meet a certain standard.
Subdivisions
In the high school halls
In the shopping malls
Conform or be cast out!
@alexskolnik @ra @brandon bring it big time - Alex captures Lifeson’s vibe so well, Ra kills Geddy’s bass parts and Brandon brings his amazing voice. We’d like to welcome @meeeun ,(Thanks to Alex for the suggestion), she is an awesome musician and kills the keyboard parts on this. I hope you enjoy this one, It may be one of the last ones for a bit...unless Alex wants to do that Emerson lake and palmer tune ( hahahahaha)
Somewhere The Professor is smiling
Charlie kills everything he plays. He is never brought up when ppl talk to me about amazing drummers. I bring him up. I have for YEARS told many ppl to listen to Charlie. He is absolutely amazing and will ALWAYS be one of my top favorite drummers of ALL TIME. I recognize your immense talent Charlie. You're a master of your craft and you seem like a grounded person.
CHARLIE LIKED MY COMMENT!!!!!!
I'm sitting in my backyard drinking a beer in Hayden, Idaho and Charlie freaking liked my comment!!!! 5/1/21 at 1922 hrs. I'll NEVER FORGET THIS DAY!!!
Love you Charlie. You're so freaking cool and I've admired your dedication and hard work for years!!! Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to read my comment but more astonishingly, liking it. Made my night man!!!
I knew Charlie was good. I didn't know he was THIS damn good.
Thanks Charlie for staying true to the drum parts. Every roll in this song is signature and wouldn’t sound right any other way
That is a great comment. You cant top what is already perfect. Charlie new that and added just a great feel to the the playing!!!
really on point.
Song is about being an outsider yet Rush always made me feel like I was on the inside, rest in peace professor!
That's one of the most poignant descriptions of Rush I've ever seen. 100%
That is what Rush did for me. No one understood me but them. They made me part of the coolest family on earth, and taught me to not be a victim of anyone.
Fantastic cover.... Charlie definitely channeled his inner Neil Peart..... I'm sure he would approve of this cover
3 excellent musicians = 1 Geddy
Ra always looking like he's having the time of his life, it's so nice to watch.
Isn’t he amazing 🤩 🥰 good to see, I totally agree 👍🏻
it's true....he reminds me the looks of Jack Black , ja ja ja
If he's this theatrical on a mellow tune can you imagine him on a Pantera cover ???
His inner child was definitely being nurtured there. It'll keep him young.
I have seen him perform live with Korn a few times he has a great time on stage and is a very talented bassist. He is only 39 too, all the guys in Korn are now in their 50s. I was thinking Ra was actually older than 39 for some reason.
This song always broke my heart because I've always been the kid that was casted out in high school. You guys perfectly reproduced the depressing yet entertaining tone of the song. RIP Neil.
I think we all were that kid to some degree. It’s what probably brought us all here
Yes I too was that kid a seven years old I was hit by a car the scar starts at my left eyebrow and goes up into the hairline so needless to say when the kids at school seen it I was called monster Frankenstein horrible and all kinds of other nice little kitty names although it bothered me sometimes I was a kid I happily and easily look back and say f*** them f*** them all made me stronger help build character. 😝😎
I call it depressing yet wistfully hopeful.
I’m 13 and for a lot of my life I have been bullied beyond belief. Not physically but mentally. And I know what your saying that’s lame. But it’s not. It would mess with me (and still does sometimes). And I would hate life. When I found rock and metal it was a whole new world for me. It helped me through everything. Then I started drumming and that got me through a lot as well. And I would like to thank the professor Neil Peart because his drumming really made me perfect my technical abilities. And also I would like to thank charlie and all of the big 4 bands. You guys (Charlie, Dave, Lars, and Nick) really made me develop my speed and work on that. And because of all of these drummers and true musicians I am a happy and well rounded musician!
we all were! as were Neil, Alex, and Ged, that's why the universe of Rush exists, you are not alone!
Charlie, Ra, Alex, Mee Eun, Brandon, you guys are my FUCKING HEROES. This cover is absolute gold.
Great job ladies & gentlemen!! Signals was one of my favorite albums growing up. You all sounded excellent; funny how it takes 5 mortals to reproduce the sound and musicianship of 3 legendary immortals whose music will outlive all of us. Even got the vocals. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Pretty apropos song for the times.
Let's take a moment to recognize that it took 5 super talented musicians to *cover* a song performed by 3
Awesome cover btw
Replacing any one of them is a challenge. It took 3 to replace Geddy Lee.
Was my very first thought as well. They killed it, but it took 5 of them!
You do realize there's a difference between a live performance and a studio recording.
Do you suppose that Rush recorded it live with no overdubs? Probably not.
Someone needs to turn up the bass guitar. You can barely hear it.
I love the way everyone tried to stay true to the way Neil, Alex and Lee would have had to play it in 1982.....no cheating with technology!....Allegaeon also does a monster take on this song!
Nailed. It. Like others here, I was one of the outcasts, and a teacher's son at that. Double trouble. The bullying still lives with me at 54. RIP, NP, sadly missed.
That Subdivisions Groove! F'n Amazing! It proves that Benante is one of the best drummers alive on the planet and Skolnik is a guitarist way ahead of his time. I have had the pleasure of meeting both Charlie B and Alex Skolnik at The Norva in Norfolk Virginia and they are both down to earth real people who appreciate music and their fans! This is by far the best thing musically I've heard so far in 2021! Thanks for recording this!
Neil is the greatest percussionist who ever lived🇨🇦❤️
Can't thank all of you enough for doing this over the last year! It's always such a welcome respite from the times! Yo Chuck D. Where aaarrree youuuu???
Amazing! Who says metal drummers can't play Rush! Charlie has always been someone I aspire to as a drummer. I would so love to meet and talk shop with him!
This is a total hall of fame effort.
The red hydrant , the “Subdivisions” voice from the record , the driving footage and the filter it’s shot in ... on top of just KILLER performances. I can’t help but just smile all the way through these Rush covers
That overlay of Tempest during the guitar solo took me straight back to the early 80s, genius touch. And what a cover.
the anthem for anyone who's ever felt like an outsider.
absolute perfection, gentlemen (and lady!) 💜
*edit: an e.l.p. cover would be legit
Ra always looks like he's having the time of his life.
Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life, eh, Ra? 😎😎
I saw him live twice with KoRn he killed it I even saw him do a bass solo live!
S U P E R B ! ! ! Especially enjoyed the Bass player's enthusiasm!
Smiling. Can't stop. Charlie kicking so much A**, bass is crazy as well. Rush was something else man
This is the song that not only got me hooked on Rush, but generally hooked on music. It's one of the few "I remember where and when" moments. It came on the radio in 1982 as I was lying on my bed and it was totally transforming. Great rendition.
Bingo.
Me too. Been a rush fan ever since.
For Rush it was late high school for me in the early '00s. I had heard them already but didn't really care for much. Then I heard this track. I was then an Instant fan and have been ever since.
It happened to me in 82 when my friend hands me his Sony Walkman and says listen to this my freshman year in high school. It was a song that changed the course of my life and thinking...
Awesome RIP Mr Peart
Man, I split Rush when this record came out. Many years later I revisited it, and fell in love with this record. Great remake. Notice it takes 5 to reproduce 3. That’s important to note the giants Rush were.
Charlie, Alex and Ra are the ONLY quarantine supergroup you need to listen to wherever you might be. Incredible work, gents!!
💯 just telling my wife basically how awesome this particular group is! Awesome!🤘
2 Minutes To Late Night has been rocking it as well. I mean come on, Anthem with Les Claypool and Danny Carey as the rhythm section.
Ditto-they are superb!!
They're great, but The Band Geeks are no slouches, either! They did an amazing cover of Roundabout by Yes while in quarantine. Richie Castellano perfectly replicated the late, great Chris Squire's bass line and sound. He even played a Ricky 4001!
FU©KING EPIC.
Charlie, Neil is looking opon you grining in approval.
YOU ALL DID AN ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL JOB.
I SO ENJOYED THIS..... THANK YOU
That snare sounds fucking great. Love this.
Incredible!
Cheers from Montreal Canada 🤘🏽🍻
R.I.P Neil Peart, he would be proud of this one guys 👏🏽
Charlie you're amazing dude, you can tell in your performance that this is nothing short of an outpouring of love for Neil and Rush! I'm a HUGE Anthrax fan, but this was stunning bro!
Alex and Charlie playing this tune together is my favorite part but everyone does a fantastic job here!
Im so proud americans that plays canadian music👏👏👏👏🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🥁🥁🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
This is my most favorite song of RUSH. Thank you Charlie and guys (and beautiful lady)!!
I'm having a lot of fun in Japan. I'm always supporting you !!
And I'm sorry for my poor English.
This is another incredible cover. Holy crap, I can’t find words to describe the joy I feel in this moment. Unbelievable.
What A LEGIT tribute and cover! Damn...just DANM!
This is good.
Tribute to the Holy Rush. RIP always Neil Peart
This is, by far, my fave Rush song. It is was a flashback to see the clips of Tempest from the original video. Thank you for doing a wonderful job on this song. You did The Professor proud with this.
Incredible job! Charlie you're such an underrated drummer.
A year of being stuck apart from each other yet thanks to you Charlie, and a group of your friends, good music came out of it. Thanks for helping so many of us get through 2020, a pandemic and the loss of such an icon in Neil!
Yeah!! One of my favorites, an anthem for some us. Thanks for sharing.
As a drummer, I'm here for Charlie, but Ra is the highlight of these videos.
May we all have so much fun, ever.
This is an amazing rendition of a song I have heard hundreds of times, yet not quite like this one. Charlie, that was nothing short of incredible. Props and salute.
Gosebumps.... Wow Charlie and Band!!! Great cover!!!!. The Professor in heaven says: ✌
Wow!! That was DEAD ON!! What a cover! Great effin job Fellas 🎶
Yet another triumph for Charlie’s creativity. I almost don’t want the pandemic to end if we keep getting these awesome projects.
Just kidding. But these tunes rule!
He thinks hes selling anthrax albums while doing these
@@timeswehadwewonthaveagain6980 I'm pretty sure that isn't his intention---Anthrax doesn't sound anything like Rush. Plus, he's the only guy FROM Anthrax in this clip.
Damn, I just had this thought that I'm never gonna see the Professor play these songs again, and it really got to me. However, I feel so privileged that I got to see Rush six times since they reunited in 2002. A lot of their fans never had the chance or means to see them even once, so I can't complain.
So tight. Great cover - I remember hearing this song at 14 when it came out and being floored, it described exactly what I was going through at the time...
That couldn’t have been better!!!!! Favorite Rush tune and one of my favorite songs to play on the drums back then
Killer job yous!!!
Half of the fun of Rush is just being a fan and getting immersed in the music, but if anyone picked up an instrument here, there are a million little lessons in this one song. It’s not an easy song to play AT ALL, and the truer one stays to the music, the harder it gets. Charlie, I learned a few things and was in awe on all of your performance. Nailed.
All of you nailed it. Well done
My love for Alex Skolnik knows no limits, I have been able to see Testament live twice and it's hands down my favorite thrash metal band of all time, and what a beautiful Rush song... what a humongous loss Neil departure has been... a couple of months ago I saw a documentary feature of Rush's creative and recording processes... so rich, so filled with incredible tips about how to be a pro, how to do things efficiently, such humbleness about how to interact with your bandmates and production crew... I hope Neil knew how much of an influence his life and art have been for millions of people around the world... a teacher never stops teaching. Thank you for this song mr. Benante, lifted my spirit up!
Out of all of Rush's songs I think this one resonates we the most (maybe tied with Mystic Rhythms off of Power Windows), definitely my favorite. This song sums up my entire existence in the social sphere growing up... hell who am I kidding, even in the present.
Saw Rush in 1983 in West Germany. The Signals Tour , it was Epic . Hats Off these folks Nailed It . ..
Brilliant, well done guys!! LOVING the Rush covers. You do them justice, and I'm sure somewhere Neil has a big smile on his face. :) Please do more, when you have the time!
Alex solo playing Tempest FTW!!!
Awesome! Such a tune 👌🏻
WOW, this is... Wow, just incredible! This is pretty close to being my favorite RUSH tune and you guys just knocked it outta da park! Charlie, you've been among my favorite drummers since I saw you way back in the early 80's. And Alex too among my favorite guitarists. Thanks so much for this! Freaking amazing!
Simply fantastic.
Best Rush cover EVER! Every one of you totally nailed it!
Soooo Good that it actually makes me smile while listening 😃😃😃!!!
Subdivisions is the greatest song ever written by anyone in history. This version just kills. Charlie fucking owning it. Hopefully you guys get to some Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows songs soon.
Bravo!
I was hoping that you'd go into The Analog Kid after this.
This video showed up in my feed, and from the first note put a huge smile on my face. Amazing cover! One of my all time favorite Rush songs. Thanks for your awesome talent and making my day.
I cannot believe how good this is on all fronts. Outstanding work!!
Holy fuckola... Of all your Rush covers this might be the best yet. Charlie is THE STAR here, absolutely killing Peart's part. I wish the solo was longer to hear more of Alex getting into it, but he nailed it (Alex Lifenik? Skolson?). Big shout out to Brandon, Mee Eun and Ra for performing their parts flawlessly. Ra has DA BASS FACE going! Love it!
Neil would be proud. 👌🏻
R.I.P Neil, for sure one of the greatest musicians of all time. 👍
*My favorite Rush song, and y'all **_nailed_** it! Monstrous kudos!*
That was very awesome!!! Gave me the chills!!!! Kicked Ass!!! 👍🤘👍🤘
You put a huge smile on my face once again....this is a year where guys like you Charlie have stepped up to cheer us up - thank you
WOW BEST DRUMMER FOR THIS TRIBUTE ...CHARLIE IS KICKASS VERY UNDERRATED ON THE SKINS ..JUST LISTEN TO FIST FULL OF METAL AND THATS WHY LADIES AND GENTLEMEN...COME ON GUYS DO 2112 AND THEN YYZ,,,,,STAY SAFE AND THANKS FOR THE POST
Why do people always say that someone who is very famous specifically for their skill is "underrated"?!?
@@MrSatyre1 let's be honest metal or HARD metal dont get the same recognition as hip hop or country..its like rocky george from SUICIDAL TENDENCIES amazing player but when you talk to people oh him ya he plays good ..come on man ...its my OPINION...stay safe
Tempest. Not much more needs to be said. Thank you for making my Monday.
This channel and these amazing covers have been the jewel of the last year. Everyone and every track has been on point. Thanks Charlie for continually bringing all these talented people together and delivering every time!
Wow, all of the performers play excellently, but Charlie: I've watched many drummers try to cover this song and Benante, for me, is the first one to play it as well as Neil did; Pure perfection!
Rush never seemed to have the popularity they deserved, but musicians always knew better. This song has always been one of my absolute favorites.
I take some exception to that statements. Yes, Rush was never the type of band that got massive radio play (except for perhaps the early 80's) or chart success. However, they did have at least 14 platinum albums over the years, with several going multi-platinum. Plus, they were able to tour massive arenas and sheds from the late 1970's forward. Furthermore, unlike many bands who had been around since the 1970's, they were able to often avoid the trap of doing "just the hits." Sure there were some setlist staples such as Tom Sawyer and The Spirit of Radio, but every tour was unique, and they usually gave a lot of attention to their newer releases, while still offering up deep cuts that hadn't been played live in years, if not decades.
Rush is/was the largest cult band of all time. So rush was very popular in that way.
My point was that growing up it was never "cool" to be a Rush fan, and you certainly weren't going impress any girls with a Rush t-shirt.
There is so much spot on happening here with all instruments. But the drums....The Professor approves!
I probably watcher this at least 50 times in less than a week. I've also forwarded it to all my Rush friends from way back in high school, who are equally impressed. We also had a heavy metal band at the time so most of us had the chops to play all kinds of music like Maiden, Priest, April Wine etc..but we didn't even attempt to cover Rush. Very well done boys....and young lady on keyboards
when Charlie gets bored we all WIN!!!!!!!!!
Super excellent job Chad and excellent musicians friends👍👏👍🎸🥁🎶🎵🎼⚡👍!!!!
That's the best rush cover EVER CHARLIE IS THE MAN!!!!
My favorite song and I relate to the lyrics. Thank you Neil for understanding me. RIP
Charlie you kill it on every one of these rush covers. Blown away right now.
Still can't get over Neil's passing but this cover sure helps! Thank you guys for all the awesome covers you have done! You have been very helpful during this stressing period. Looking forward to the album!
With a tear in my eye I love this cover of this song. you guys nailed it.thank you for this it made my day 😎💪🤘🔥💯.
Fantastic. Ya'll have done an incredible job and I am blown away. Brings a smile to my face as I am transported back to 1982 and 7th grade with "Subdivisions". This is the song that opened the door to RUSH for my 12 yr old ears and began my love of the band. Again ya'll have hit the nail on the head and I so do enjoy these videos. RIP Professor.
This song reminds me my adolescence!!! Thank you Charlie, you're a crack!!!
🎼 What A Rush 🎼
From my favorite Rush album!
A fantastic cover!
Thanks Charlie for the past year of incredible music!
Awesome cover. Charlie did a great job and I'm sure Neil would be happy with it. All involved did great!
That was great, Charlie's drumming especially. The groove started a little stiff but got better and better as the song went on. I'm a big fan of Alex's guitar playing in its many forms so that was a treat as well.
i fell in love with drums when i heard "exit stage left" when i was nine years old then with help from a mega bass walkman an a pair of drumsticks ,anthrax and public enemy i became a half decent drummer bless to charlie an neil an flav "hear the drummer get wicked" x
I might have shed a tear watching this. Thank you.
Damn, that was perfect. I love get-togethers like this. It shows how much the human spirit can conquer that which defies us.
TEMPEST!
Yeah brings back memories!
All the hours and quarters that I put on that game back in the day. Ahh good times!!
Such a beautiful tribute to the Professor, thank you Charlie.
Amazing job guys....gave me goosebumps as Rush does everytime...Spot on.
Before hardcore, metal and punk, it was Rush for me. Thank you!
What a performance!! Every musician on point and created a perfect cover of this song. You all nailed it! Can we have more Rush covers from you all? Please??
Great job Everyone!! Signals was one of my favorite albums growing up. You all sounded excellent; funny how it takes 5 mortals to reproduce the sound and musicianship of 3 legendary immortals whose music will outlive all of us! Even got the vocals!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Pretty apropos song for the times we find ourselves in unfortunately. Super performance.
Just.. nailed it. 🤘 ❤️
Awesome song, just got into it recently. I mean, I knew it from classic rock radio, but never paid attention to the lyrics or seen the official video for it till yesterday and I'm like "oh I slept on this!" The only Rush album I ever owned was 2112 but been binging on them last couple of days.
