Much congrats ! I love my 24 SGP FL5 I’ve had since April and love it more every day then any other car I’ve ever owned and I’ve had many . 61 years old here and your never to old in my book for any passions in life especially when it comes to cars . I plan on keeping mine stock but it’s a challenge since I always mod my cars. So far I’ve only got the Honda Factory Carbon Fiber rear wing, CF fender screens “a must” and tuxmat carpet liners to protect the beautiful red carpets . I feel like I’m on a never ending honeymoon . Definitely the best car buying choice I’ve ever made . Oh and I am considering tinting the windows to protect the interior but I’m holding off with all my will power lol.
Well you can tell I'm no spring chicken either... I've owned many cars, and I've always appreciated the more surgical rather than brute horsepower vehicles. Seats are also a big deal to me. A BMW m2 would be great, but more money, and not as reliable, and this car should be more rare than that. Dealer made me buy Type R All weather mats so will see how well those cover. I've used Weathertec on most of my other cars. I've also looked at screens, but not sure which ones are best. Got a link?
Great review, you're a natural on camera and it's refreshing to see someone older into these cars 😊. Only mod I did on mine was PRL HPI, great for sound and slight performance. Since these cars ride rigid, I have rattles here and there
Thanks! Do you have a link to hear the sound difference with the intake? Does it affect anything else on the car? I'm a little Leary of modding as there often seems to be side effects.
Nice introduction to your FL5 journey. They're such a special car to drive, and it rewards at any speed so you don't need to fang it at all. Even cruising is nice and comfortable but with astonishing feedback. That exhaust noise is criminal though. Way too subdued, and the piped in noise is overwhelming. Looking forward to seeing how you go with it. I love mine.
If only the ITS exhaust could be easily swapped over, I'd be satisfied. I like that you dont need crazy speed to enjoy the car. Cant wait til 1000km break in is over!
@@waynephilbertI’ve only had a few brand new cars in my life, mostly buying barely used ones, and so want to not mess anything up with the drivetrain, 450 km to go!
Thanks for picking this up an reviewing. I still have my Fiesta ST, and have been watching your channel ever since your review. For some reason though, even though I know this car is superior, can't let my Fist go lol nice video !
Congrats on getting the Type-R. It is a great car. I also had a FIST several years ago. A very fun car. I am a Honda guy, but I picked up a new GR Corolla 3 weeks ago. For me, as a 56 year old retiree the GR is easier to live with and more fun. Nobody seems to know about the GR, so I don’t get tempted to do silly things by others, like when I drove the Type-R. It is great that we still have fun manual transmission cars that are reasonably priced. (If you can get at MSRP)
The GR Corolla sure is a great car. I think what swayed me was that I was on a list at a dealer who said they'd sell for MSRP. Well, they had mandatory add-ons that their Group charges on all cars, so I had to buy a few things extra. Other dealers in CDA were circumventing Honda's "cant sell for more than MSRP" so I was a little nervous that my dealer would pull the same tricks. They didnt, so am happy. Lots of $$ for a Civic, but I like all performance cars and thought the rarity of the Type R in Canada would ensure long term value.
@@CoolcarCrapcar I think you made the right choice for a long term hold at this time. Of course, with all things, time will tell but I would have done the same thing.
Wow, so briefly I wanna say I moved to Puerto Rico 2yrs ago from 32yrs living in Massachusetts. Down here a family member passed and I got from him a 2017 Accent with just 54k miles for 3,400 bucks!!. A complete steal and now Im considering buying a ‘24 or ‘25 Civic sedan to have as my daily. The Accent will be my secondary emergency car. This video was great and the fact that you had a Accent was ment for me to stumble here to your channel. Subbed great work! 🫡
I agree. I've had quite a few hot hatches through the years; Ford Escort GT, Civic Si, VW Gti , Fiesta ST. I wish the car itself wasnt so big, but I'm really liking it so far! Can't wait til 1000km to climb past 4000 rpm!
I agree with your comment about the size. The Civic has continued to grow in size. All trim levels of the current generation Civic are really good. You mention the Fiesta ST. I really enjoyed the size and fun factor. I think that is why I am enjoying my new GR Corolla so much. It reminds me of the FIST but has more power and capability with the AWD. However like the FIST, the GR Corolla interior is not premium like the Civic. The Type-R is more hardcore than the GR and at least for me, I was more tempted to drive it a little too aggressive on the street. Since I have no plans to take a car to the track, the GR works better for me.
I havent driven a GR Corolla yet. Would like to track one down and compare to my R (in another video of course!) If I was driving in winter at all, I'd have gotten a GR. Interestingly there are about half a dozen used one in my city; I wonder why people have traded them in or bailed on payments? Still long waiting lists for Type R in Canada and very little being shipped here.
I’ve had mine since February. I did the suspension module swap from the Integra Type S and it’s absolutely worth it. I also swapped out the Active Sound generator from the Integra Type S, and it’s another good improvement. A lot of people don’t seem to realize, but the pumped in fake engine sound is very different between the two cars. The Civic is very buzzy and artificial sounding, whereas the Integra fake engine noise has more of a growl to it. I thought it would be better than just disabling it, since I like to be able to hear what the engine is doing, even if it’s augmented/fake.
I hadn't read about then active sound generator swap. How much did that cost? The suspension module swap looks pretty good to me as our winnipeg roads are awful. We have so many freeze-thaw cycles, the water seeps in and then freezes and busts everything up.
@@CoolcarCrapcar The sound generator module was about $66 USD. Installation involves taking the long strip with the AC vents out of the dashboard, and then you can remove the original sound module and plug in the new one. There are videos on YT about opening the dash to get to it. You could also try and get your dealer to do it if you supply the part and pay for labor.
The type R is a four seater because the tire and suspension combo is rated for 308 kg or 680 pounds max capacity of passengers and cargo combined for international customers, especially big fellas in the states they didn't want to make it a safety issue. You can verify on the tire safety label located on the driver side door sill. I believe their purpose was to make the most capable track car for the dollar and had to sacrifice comfort, ride, and hauling more people. I know the exhaust has additional resonators to meet international decibel level limits for importing. That's why the exhaust sounds lackluster, especially compared to type s, sold only in u.s markets. I love mine. I wish they could have managed to increase fuel tank size, I'm averaging about 240 mi. before having to refuel. A traditional handbrake would have been nice, and personally, I would have appreciated tpms even at an added cost. I purchased a sks airchecker from my local bicyshop for like $45, I highly recommend it's been very accurate and dependable on several occasions.
I had not heard anything about weight being a factor. That would make sense, as otherwise it was an odd decision. I also have seen the gas gauge move alarmingly fast, only to realize the fill up was so little. I wish the type S exhaust was the same length and just bolt on; I'd do that in a heartbeat. I also agree about the handbrake and didnt know about TMPS (yet). Lots to learn about the car and will have a series of ownership videos on the car.

You should try one! It is very fun and I hope it will be a car that goes down as one Honda’s best last ICE vehicles. haven’t driven an AMG so don’t know how they compare but let me know if you test an R.
I'm middle aged too, I was so pleased when I saw your video, I missed the FK8 because I bought an Audi A6, my wife called it an adults car lol! However, now we have this new shape, which I think I'm loving already and I want it in white too, so I shall be hankering after this until it's sat on my drive, fantastic video too, I'm a little green with envy right now!
I drive my Outback when I want to feel my age, and the Type R when I want to feel like I am…. Maturity wise! The Integra type S is also something you might want to consider if you don’t want to be called out as “too old for THAT wing…” (some kid on a local car FB group called me out!) good you like the video; 1000km update has been shot but 30 hrs of editing ahead of me when I can fit it in! Hopefully next week!
@@CoolcarCrapcar I'm not worried about my age and my wife thinks I'm funny, I'm not easily offended so I can take a little jibe(especially about the rear wing) but I don't mind. Loving the videos, looking forward to see where your journey with this car goes.
If you press the HOLD button for the parking brake, then you can drive off in 1st gear and the parking brake will automatically disengage. And since HOLD is on (indicated by the green light) you can stop at a red light and not have to hold the brake pedal.
Ah, I think I remember reading about that many months ago. Will have to try that next week when I get back home. I think the "not having to hold the brake pedal" will seem pretty weird!
So im a canuck living over in the US. So far i put mine on lowering springs and had the ecu sent to hondata to to jailbrake. Tuned on 83 with the type s pops and bangs tune. (Which is basically a nice pop between shifts and 1 on decel) I also had both resonators removed and kept the mufflers. I believe this sounds better than most exhaust setups ive researched on here and it was a more economical alternative. Also got new 18"wheels with a little more sidewall.
Those sound like great options; I'll ponder what to do over winter (a long ponder here in Winnipeg....) but nothing til then. Only 6 weeks til the snow might fly around here so gotta get out and drive!
I really enjoyed this review! I have an Elantra N (not sure if you get those in your market) but the interesting thing is that all of the positives that you listed for the Type R are definitely agreeable but I was sold on the Elantra N because of the "downsides" that you mentioned (Elantra N exhaust sounds amazing (and ridiculously) from the factory and the suspension in normal is super compliant). That said, I'm a huge fan of the Type R and I feel that it sets the benchmark for FWD performance cars!! Hope you continue enjoying it!
Thanks for the insight. I have read and watched so many comparisons between the Elantra N and Type R. You resonate much of what I have heard. I know I could have saved $$ going Elantra and had a blast, but when I heard Canada was only getting a touch over 500 cars, ever, I thought I'd have a more rare car and possibly a better investment for the future. Who knows, but too late: I have it! I am jealous of the N exhaust sound though. Very.
Beautiful car, Congratulations!! I know they’re hard to find in the states, even more difficult in Canada I’m sure. My local dealership has one but salesman said it would be like 56k out the door. They had a 5k market adjustment, can’t seem to find one at MSRP, still looking 👀
I'm starting to read about people, even in CA, begin able to find some MSRP deals in the States. Have you considered going out of State and driving /shipping it back?
Congratulations on your purchase! The FL5 is definitely one of the best cars Honda ever made. I’ve daily my 2024 Boost Blue FL5 since January and love it. Such a fun car to drive. I advise you to upgrade your coolant tank ASAP. They tend to crack/leak even at low miles.
Oh, I had heard about some cracking but though it was people tracking their cars. I wonder if Honda has upgraded it in the 2024 models? I'll ask the parts guy next week when I get them to straighten my steering wheel.
Subscribed fellow Type R Brother 👍🏻👊🏻 4 months and only 1000 miles but no rattles yet knock on wood lol Part of the reason I haven’t upgraded the exhaust is I’ve read Pilar posts and similar can vibrate . So gave me good reason not to change it out “yet”
Rattles, the bane of my existence, but I'll track them down (unless in the dash, and I dont want to tear apart the dash as I'll have 5 more rattles... I am concerned about after market exhausts as there always seems to be a problem with droning or electronics or something else, so I'll wait or just live with it. ITS exhaust would be the way to go if someone can recreate that; too bad it's longer than CTR so doesnt plug and play.
Awesome review you bought the car to use it that is awesome. I own a boost blue and love the way it performs out of the box. I will keep mine stock don’t want to deal with the headache of stuff breaking down.
@@CoolcarCrapcar I pass on the module because I don’t get the complaints on it but if you’re in +R all the time then I see why. But for me it’s pretty conftable coming from crap suspension setups and coilovers.
@@CoolcarCrapcarJust my two cents…As a previous owner of 2 FK8 CTRs I would recommend eventually getting some lightweight 18 inch wheels. I had 20s and my son had stock 19s on his Accord…both had tires pop due to bad roads/potholes.(two tires at the same time on my CTR). Most people who track their cars use 18s because the actual stock sized tires(basically rubber bands thickness wise don’t last very long). I did the Phearable Stage 2 Tune on my 2019 which can be returned back to stock easily with a computer(for me,I liked the tune with its different shift points etc./no issues whatsoever!(put 88k on that car in one year/commuting) I traded in 19 for 21 to go FBO(approximately 400hp). Spent 12-15 on parts, labor, wheels, custom tune etc…I wouldn’t necessarily do that again because adding that cost on top of a CTR’s price opens up other options performance car wise in that price range. I love the slot car handling and Honda’s bulletproof reliability…it’s just not the fastest car off the line. I actually liked the stealthy exhaust note because it didn’t announce to every cop within 5 miles that I was coming. It also helped when passing another car on the freeway for those people who think it’s cute to speed up and close a gap…just because you’re trying to pass. No loud exhaust alerting them that I’m powering up. Closest thing to a ICE Tesla😂.I’m sure we’ve all heard the proverbial Mustang with the super loud look at me exhaust…🙄
@@elvincastro9479 I actually dont mind the Comfort setting, I've owned much harder riding cars (fiesta ST for example) but I want the open valving on the exhaust that Type R mode gets, but dont want to get banged up with the tight damper setting in exchange for the sound! I have heard of people putting their car into Type R mode and then pulling the fuse associated with teh dampers so it stays in that mode. Not sure about that , but might investigate further.
@@justwingingit1 Thanks for the comments and advice. I was offered wheel and tire insurance at the dealership (1st Canadian?? product) for $500 and declined though they said I can get it anytime, as long as it was before I had a problem! (of course) I don't like really loud exhausts but I do like the Type S, which I guess is NA only product so international noise laws don't apply.
After retiring my AP1, I dabbled between the FL5 or the EN. Ultimately I went with the EN, what sold me was how playful the suspension geometry is. How easy it is to manipulate the vehicle between lift off, throttle input, trail brake etc. Reminded me very much so of the DC2 ITR. I’m sure I would have loved the FL5 as well, lucky in these times to have these options!
I have heard good things about the EN. I wish the FL5 had its exhaust. Getting a Type R was basically its rarity, specific body panels, interior, seats, but mostly to have something that was unique around Canada and would hopefully hold its value. These cars are coming to an end, so thankfully still a few around. Did you opt for manual or auto?
@@CoolcarCrapcar I thought the FL5 entire cabin was incredible. Very driver focused oriented, seats were perfect. In comparison to the ITR and AP1, I just felt that the FL5 fell short in many ways. Needless to say the FL5 is plenty faster but, that euphoria felt with the ITR and AP1 just was not present. Surprisingly, that sensation was present with the EN experience. Ultimately why I purchased it. I opted for the Manual but the DCT was light years ahead. Lightning fast shifts, incredibly smooth, very Porsche PDK like. I am by no means an automatic guy but the DCT is super impressive. If you track competitively, the DCT will give you a definitive advantage over the Manual, or any Manual I should say.
Ya, we're pretty close. How are you liking yours? Are there lots of these on the street in Japan? In Winnipeg, I've only seen one other one and ironically it was two days after I bought mine; nothing in the 2.5 yrs before!
Congrats on the FL5 purchase! You sure were patient with the 27 month wait, but you'll be pretty happy with it. Like you I bought mine sight unseen and relied truly on reviews. I'd recommend some GPS or hidden security installed. Yes, the OEM 19" wheels are fantastic, just the +60mm offset it not that pretty. Look into Bonoss forged 15mm or 20mm hub centric/wheel centric spacers to get those wheels flush with the fenders - gives it a much needed aggressive fitment.
Are these often stolen? I can drop an AirTag on it but hadn't even considered it til your comment. Offset spacers are on my "maybe" list. Need to investigate further. I have noted with the current camber the bottom of the wheel is about flush with the top of the fender, but certainly not the top.
I sold my fun car during the pandemic and watched many Type R videos, It will be interesting to see if the Type S module is really needed the Tropher added an engine brace that keeps the motor from moving so much but it looks like a solid buy for a fun daily!
Same story for me; I really thought car prices for sports cars (non necessary) would bottom but they did the opposite! I would think the road conditions where you live would dictate if the R suspension settings are too stiff for a "daily". I will only be driving it on nice days, no rain (cross my fingers) and definitely not in the winter. Now the fender mesh people are putting into the front wheel arches, to stop stone chips on the doors... that's something I might do pretty quickly.
Watching the video. Great car - have mine arrived next week having managed to pick up a 2 year old car with 4000 miles on the clock. Question? In the video, as you drive away from your house, are the Daylight front lights flashing? Looks strange as if there may be a short in the circuit.
Great question! Led lights flicker at certain frequencies and depending on the shutter speed and frames per second the video or stills camera shoots at, you can have flickering or banding. Those rolling shots are older go pros, so I don’t have control over that. Your eyes won’t ever see it in real life. Hope you like your car!
The auto dim mirror and garage buttons might be a good life quality change for me. Thank you for this video. Also, I have the ITS Damp Module and it is great! I recommend it if you want a level below comfort for sure. Some would argue its too soft especially once you start modding and adding your own tires size, rims, spacers, coil overs.
Thanks for the info on the ITS damp module. I want to keep this pretty much stock as thats the way I usually keep cars, but can swap the module if I want. I am pretty sure getting the mirror and garage button unit is a good idea; I think it's pretty cheap and quite easy to install. So, about that ITS module. Does the Type R mode have a good exhaust sound (probably still speaker enhanced?) without the punishing ride I currently have? I love a good exhaust sound, too bad we don t have the ITS one.
@@CoolcarCrapcar The ITS module only changes the suspension damping rates. It alters nothing else. So, each of the three modes and all the other Individual options are still available, and unchanged. The engine sound goes through the same three levels that it does with the stock module. +R engine sound is the same with either module, as are Custom and Sport sound. Same with the steering, and engine response. They all retain the same three levels as before. The only thing you'll notice is that you no longer have the stock +R suspension stiffness, as the new +R mode is roughly the equivalent of the stock Sport suspension. Sport is now the same as the stock Comfort suspension, and Comfort is now one step more comfortable than the stock Comfort suspension. In all three new suspensions modes, there is less bounciness. With the stock module, Comfort suspension mode is the least bouncy, but still too bouncy when going hard over bumpy roads. With the ITS module, that bounciness is greatly reduced. Better yet, you can actually use +R mode sometimes now. Comfort mode becomes genuinely comfortable. Sport mode is like taking the stock Comfort mode and optimising it, leaving it still fairly firm, but significantly less bouncy. For only $220, it's a no-brainer. Try it and decide. It's a ten minute swap that's easily reversible, and if you decide that you prefer the stock module then you will be able to sell the ITS module very quickly without losing any money.
@@vlj1133 You make a very convincing case! I'll probably keep it stock til winter (6-7 weeks away here) to get a good feel of driving it with CTR module and then try the ITS one in spring. Good info!
Yeah... You do not want to buy a used type R. Spend the extra 7-10K and get brand new out the box, knowing no one has beat it up

Congrats on your purchase...I would recommend PPF, full front, and all the piano black finish pillars. Rear diff, side skirts ...if you are keeping it of course.
I think I would have done ppf but the car came with ceramic already on it, so I'd have to strip that off (wasting $$) to put ppf on it... I had no choice as cc was installed because original (3rd guy in line) owner bailed but had ordered it. I am planning on keeping it but only driving in nice weather and hopefully on nice roads, limiting the paint damage.
bought the same model a month ago, I recommend the rock guard and mesh combo from FX3D Design, a Canadian Company, just installed them and I think they’re pretty good , a little pricey but peace of mind in my opinion.
Im actually in talks withe FX3d about maybe doing a review/install of their product on my car. Stay tuned! ( I really want to keep my car as stock as possible, so the flaps are a difficult decision; do you think a lot of rocks actually sneak a) through the vents b) past the lip of wheel well?
Definitely recommend the FX3D guards and they have great customer service and a great product. I noticed on my white one even with only 400km there were already rock chips starting to show up on the rear bumper and behind the front tires as well. Much less stressed driving through rocks on the road now. Seems like there is always rocks on the roads for some reason, road construction season in Canada I guess.
picking mine up on Monday here in Wisconsin been waiting a year and a half I also own an Fk8 it's been such a great car I know the new one is gonna be great as well I was gonna trade the fk8 for the fl5 but I decided I'm going to keep them both
Should be interesting for you to compare them both. I’m planning a fk8 vs fl5 video with my nephew, but he’s pretty shy and is hesitant to be on camera. We will see.
Great advice. I generally do that with any car. I dont know if I've heard of a lot of other manufacturers having trouble with the 2nd gear synchro and from what I"ve read, this has been a long standing problem for Honda, who makes great transmission! I did hear the casing is too small for them to put a larger/beefier synchro in there, so maybe thats the issue? My s2000 also had a bit of a 2nd gear grind. I havent pushed this car yet and wont til its broken in so I have no idea if I'll have same problem.
You mentioned the handbrake being a pain, you do have break hold, which is what you need when you stop anywhere and need to move off, without using the hand brake, but you've probably figured that out by now.
Why I want a manual handbrake is more for control (maybe I want to do a donut in the car etc) and not having to wait for an electronic motor to engage and disengage the emergency brake. I still Think the brake hold feature in civics is a bit gimmicky. I understand it simply holds Brakes at a complete stop so you can take your foot off the brake pedal and relax… I honestly don’t want to trust a switch and motor to do that; I’ll just keep my foot on the brake myself!
@CoolcarCrapcar I see what you're saying, it does take some getting used to, but it's a common feature now, I think manual handbrakes are becoming obsolete, but I agree, better for clutch control.
I almost bought a used Focus RS just before this type R landed on my lap. Would have saved $$$ but had waited for this one 27 months so bailed on the RS. Still looking for a nice s2000 at some point.
I am picky on color. One of the reasons I picked my VW Golf was for the unique color, I got a Lapiz Blue. I spent more money just to get the color and it was the 'R' model. If I were to ever cross over to Honda, Championship White is the color I would go for, just because it is unique to the Type R, unless they come out with Phoenix Yellow then it's a toss-up. Yes, that's what I also like about the Type R over the Acura, the bulging fenders, not the stuck-on ones, like the back of the Acura.
I honestly would have taken any colour I could get because these cars are so hard to get, especially without big markups. I did request (if there is such a thing in getting one of these) the Championship white only because of its heritage. Sonic grey and Red were the other two colours available in Canada but most seem to be white. I'd totally want an LE version if they built one, but not too sure about the yellow colour! Owned a purple car for about half a year and never got used to it!
@@CoolcarCrapcar yeah, no purple cars for me. My Golf R is is DSG. Wishful thinking, but if Honda ever made a Type R with an automatic I would trade my Golf. Traffic in Southern California freeways can be terrible with a manual. Unless the Type R would be a second car.
also it might be the panel that’s directly underneath the glove box. mine does that. i can’t stand it. its the main rattle but i have quite a few. my driver window will vibrate also. haven’t taken it to the dealer. hate them messing with stuff. whatever they fix you will get 2 more rattles in its place
I agree about taking it to dealers so that's why I usually try and figure it out myself. Right now everything is pretty quiet after dealer stuffed some foam "somewhere" a few weeks back.
I was all in for civic R but rode in a golf R dsg. Wow the golf R performance has it all over the civic. However the civic has more room in the back seat and bigger hatch. But for all out performance I am leaning on golf
I contemplated a Golf R as well, but really wanted something (at least in Canada) that was rare; thus the 27 month wait. This will only be my summer/ special occasion car, so hopefully I wont miss a lot of what the Golf R has as standard like sunroof, heated seats and steering wheel (matching back seats... Honda really??) I also wanted standard and most of the Golf's come with their excellent DSG.
What type of performance are we talking about? 0-60? 1/4 mile? If someone bought CTR for either of those they bought the wrong car. There’s no way a golf R is lapping a track quicker than CTR.
@@importraceramimportraceam1756 0-60 / 1/4 mile... stop light racing the Golf R is a beast with the DSG.. not as engaging as the 6 speed of the CTR and I feel the CTR looks better IMO but for someone who wants straight line in a hot hatch the golf R ripes. my parking break will go off on its own sometimes. when i sometimes forget and start taking off it unlocks. doesn’t feel terrible when it does it so I’m not sure if its hurting it or not. deffinetly not my standard practice though. but also there has been times where it holds and doesn’t go off on its own so not really sure
ahhh ok. i think you figured it out. that’s probably why sometimes it would go off on its own and sometimes not. i didn’t think about having the seatbelt on.
I think it might be gone... Dealer said they stuffed some foam "somewhere" and by coincidence or genius, I havent heard the rattle/buzz last couple of times I've driven it (but my windows have been open, enjoying the last fleeting summer moments.
I’m getting there! 850km on it. I’m also going to produce an install video on a rock guard mesh product I’m getting from a cdn. Company sometime this week.
Great! I’m hoping to find a local ITS to do a comparison video. Saw a black one at a local car meet a few weeks back but wasn’t quick enough to chat with the owner. Both have their advantages!
I am looking for a fun and daily driver car. Getting the FL5 Type R is one of my list. I own nothing but Hondas currently and in the past and was thinking of exploring other brands. I am also considering getting the 23-24 Toyota Gr86 or, 23-24 BMW M240 . Would you say the FL5 is worth the money considering the speed and all the options? I know if i get the BMW 240, it will probably be much quicker. Trying to work out all the pros ad cons. I currently own a 2019 Honda Accord 2.0 Sport which is basically a detuned 2.0 Type R engine.
Well, I have owned quite a few cars, including a M135i which was one of my favourite cars. I sold it because I had friends (who also owned BMW's) talk about their car repair costs and I got nervous and got rid of it prior to warranty expiring. I would like rear wheel drive always, so the GR86 would be a tempting purchase. There are plenty of GR86's out there so I wanted something more special and in Canada these will be rare. I could have saved a bunch of money buying a used GR86 for sure and maybe that would have been a good choice. If you had to pay anything above MSRP for the Civic, then many people say it's not worth the money. Do you need room or carry people? Civic hands down. The Toyota will probably be very reliable except it uses a Subaru Boxer engine which doesnt have the same longevity as a lot of Toyota engines. Finally, I havent driven a GR86 or current m240 so dont know how rough they ride. Civic can be a bit rough, even on Comfort. Tough call.
@@CoolcarCrapcarI test drove the GR86 and it's also super fun drive. Not the fastest in a straight line but hugs the road really good and manual gearbox is awesome. Almost, reminds me of the gearbox for the Miata but on a stiffer ride. The m240 is a beast and super quick on a straight, around 4 seconds in a straight line. The new BMWs are more reliable than before but maintanence can get expensive if it breaks. However, the B58 engine is indestructible, it's one of BMWs good quality engine hence they put the same engine in the Toyota Supras. I could save money and get the GR86 but its only a 2 door. Even though it's me and my wife since my kids are grown own, occasionally, I spend time with my mom and she is partially handicap and uses a wheelchair so i dont think a wheelchair will fit in the trunk of the GR86. One thing i hate about the FL5 is the spoiler. Me being in the 40's is kind of acward driving with that spoiler. lol. But i could get the Acura Type S but the cost is higher and i found a used 2023 FL5 with 2K miles selling for $44K in USD which is about 59,611 in CAD . Hard decision.
Hmmm. Well I'm out of town til next week so will have to try again. So far I've given a decent amount of gas and let out the clutch and it hasn't come off yet... maybe I have to do a burnout!
Interesting. I feel the car’s worst view is from the side where you can really see its length. In my opinion the hatch profile seems to make it look less long than the sedan. I wish they had a small version; maybe they’ll make a Type R prelude?
🤡Too funny🤡 - I had a deposit on a GR Corolla for 26 months before I took delivery of my Circuit. (I passed on a few Core models that were offered at about month 20) I have not installed my front plate either. I think it is not as noticeable as the plate is white & the car is white. I had a red 911 where the mount got loose to I took it off to sort it out. 2 days later I got a no plate ticket👎 I agree as the air flow is very nice with a sun roof crack open. If a GRC comes out with a sunroof I think I would trade.
Oh, the ticket... That's now what I wanted to hear! I have talked to soooo many people at car shows about no front plate and you're the first I've heard who's got a ticket! My neighbour has a loud mustang GT and hasn't had a front plate on it for almost 3 yrs and no ticket. How long ago did you get your ticket? maybe they're getting more lenient? Having a front plate was a police request of the government so they could catch more baddies... I wonder where the stats are to back that up?
@@CoolcarCrapcar One possibility for the ticket for my 993 was given because it is a blank red slate (ie no grill) so it is so obvious that the plate is not there. On most cars with grills a cop may not notice the lack of a plate at quick glance. Cops & most people think anyone who drives a 911 is a posing douch (made of $$$) - so you are more likely to be given a ticket just for that. (& that is a thing) I got that ticket about 9 years ago. I cross the border a bunch and have "without a doubt" noticed that the younger generation (less than 40) border guards are way less militant (annal) & more pleasant when dealing with the public. That being an anecdotal fact for me - It may be possible that the younger Cops are less anal as well. Just a thought...
@@CoolcarCrapcar I got the ticket about 9 years ago. The red 911 is a blank space up front - so it was likely more noticeable that there wasn't a plan than a car with a busy grill. It is possible the younger cops are more lenient than the older old school big headed authoritarian kurmudgen cops are...
@@CoolcarCrapcar Okay good, as long as you know you can in the future. Worst case, dealership mechanic. But to hear how the raw engine noise sound like is going to be sweet.
Great question! I am a touch over 6’, and have at least 4” of headroom if the seat is at its lowest setting. I have the seat “jacked up” 5 pulls of the lever so I not so low. Tons of headroom and I sit quite vertical
I dont know if the regular civic has the same seat height as teh Type R, but you could start by finding a regular FL5 and see if you fit. I"d guess you'd fit, this car has about the most head room of any car I've owned, including suv's.
Thats what happens with LED lights and faster shutter speeds (which the GoPro would have been using in bright light) Just shows up on photographs and video depending on the shutter speed of the camera. How do you like you car?
I live in Vancouver.... in here the FL5 TYPE R is 65000-80000 before tax.... like 800-4000KM....I called pretty much all dealer around here they all said it pretty much impossible to get it, some dealer will have 1-2 each year and they mark up 80000.......can Honda Canada do something about it I hate it so much
BC and Ontario seem to have the most dealers pulling tricks to get more profit from their Type R allocations. Most "selling" them to friends or family and then get "resold" back to the dealership where they sell them as "used" and pop on a 20k upcharge. Honda Canada has rules for not selling over MSRP so that's how they skirt those rules. Sad. If you go to www.civicxi.com/forum/forums/2023-civic-type-r-forum-fl5-11th-gen.111/. and look for the Canadian thread about what colour dealer asked me about, there is a person on there who tracks available Type Rs across Canada and a few other people have been able to pick one up because of his homework.
In Manitoba we have public insurance, and I have close to the maximum of “points” that you gain by not having accidents. So I’m paying about $1300 cdn a year, but full price would Have been over $2000 and this is for pleasure use, not for driving to work. More$$ for the full coverage. About the same as my 2019 Subaru outback, so not terrible.
Great question. I have to wait til my son comes over and he can drive and I can hunt down the noise. So far the dealership stuck some foam "somewhere". Might be knee bag plastic cover, but tough to figure out when I'm driving and cant be in both seats at the same time! I hate rattles so will hopefully get to the source next week.
@@CoolcarCrapcarmine had the a buzzing issue. Stick foam on the passenger side of the rear view mirror. Gone! Buzz at 4200-4800rpm. Sounded I swear it was in front of the info to the firewall. Good luck. If you fix it let us all know!
My math was bad (and corrected in subtitle) so was only 27 months. I kinda got it for MSRP, but had to buy a few extras like mats. The car came With ceramic coating at the request of the person ahead of me on the list (who changed his mind) so had to pay for that.
@@CoolcarCrapcar Still 27 months is a long time to wait. Looking at one of the car buying sites, there are 5 type R's within 30 miles of me here in the US available. Sorry things are so different in Canada.
Definitely! Its 7 months of snow and cold Here in Winnipeg, so it will sit during those months only. I’m very close to my 1000km break in period and will fill an update episode soon.
In what way? Adding to MSRP? Here in Canada Honda has a rule about not selling above MSRP, but most dealerships are sneaky and have "mandatory packages" or put on PPF and Ceramic and you have to buy it the way it is. The worst dealerships (mostly Ontario and BC) "sell" the car to a spouse or friend, who drives it 300 km and then sells it back to them. They then have cranked the asking price 25k in some situations, but because it's a "used" car, they circumvent Honda's rules. I bought mine for MSRP except for a few extras, but because of the person ahead of me ordering ceramic coating, I got tagged an additional $1200 than I was expecting to pay. I could have waited, but they were told zero allocations next year, so this could be their last one!
I can’t point my finger at an exact article, but many sources are saying the next version of the type r will be hybrid. I think that’s part of the rush to buy one. I could be wrong, as its happened before!
Seems everything is crazy expensive these days. I usually buy slightly used. Only reason I bought this new was that the used ones were 15-20k more than new here in Canada!
I’ll get back to you once I break it in! Super high horsepower cars are generally only fun at speeds that will land you in jail, where I feel really good handling cars either way less hp. Are fun at normal or less than high speed driving. We will see; stay tuned for more updates on the car and my experience with it.
It's crazy the rich are buying cars just to be buying them. There's no fun in ownership of cars or making deals due to inflation and the car enthusiast like me sees these cars that are not worth the purchase
Its partially dealers fault, even in Canada where they are legally obligated to sell at MRSP, but "sell" them to a friend, who drive 300km and then sells it back to dealership so they can call it used and add 20k to the price. I only would have bought one because I got one at MSRP and they are rare in Canada. Lots of great cars out there, but everything has ballooned in cost.
Here in the states Honda Civic owners are A holes with something to prove in all models. Typically Canadian’s 🇨🇦 being so nice and down to earth. Don’t like the wing but enjoy your new car. Also so sick of all the WT and their muscle cars here again in the states. How does it drive in the twists?
Interestingly enough, living in a city with 6 months of snow on the ground, you wouldn't think there'd be as big and varied of a car culture as I thought. Every Sunday there are at least 3 places where tons of cars meet up, and even a long cruise down our main drag (Portage Ave.) Of course lots of nice and polite owners, but we also have a fair share of show off, testosterone laden owners who have to make lots of noise and act like idiots. If you want to see some of my car photography follow me at my insta. @coolcarcrapcar
I wouldn’t be concerned about “ruining” the front look of the car and putting a front plate if I were you. Path of least resistance when dealing the police. The car gets enough attention as it is.
Good point and I was very close to using rivets instead of the huge screws to attach it. Maybe I’ll get a stow and show type holder but I haven’t seen one for sale as of yet.
How’s the status on the front licence plate? If you haven’t put it up yet, my suggestion would be to get 4 zip ties, and zip tip the front plate at all four corners to the front grille.
Ironically I have the front plate under my seat with 4 black twist ties attached; so if info get pulled over, I can offer to attach it right away…. I just hate how the plate obscures the night horizontal opening is that grill in terms of aesthetics. It’s only 7 weeks til winter around here so I might hold off doing anything til spring and have 6 months to ponder!
I start all my videos like that, usually with my daughter or son in the other corner. Just a style decision to be different I guess. I also usually have different segments like the Dad joke, and does it donut. This type r series has started differently as I’ll have updates on ownership. Thx for comment!
I can understand your opinion; for me it’s not too bad but at least it’s not as crazy as the fk8 one (in my opinion) Maybe Honda or someone else will make a replacement that hugs the body.
You have a point. An m2 base model if at msrp would have been about 15k more Than this R. I had a 135M back in 2007 and loved it, but knew too many people with huge repair bills, so sold it before warranty ran out. Definitely would consider one in the future!
Interesting. I haven’t read about too many problems with the type R so cross my fingers! (At least major parts are carryovers from FK8 and should be reliable…)
Well I'm starting at 60! (cant believe I'm actually that old; I'm pretty sure my maturity is about 40 yrs younger and thats not just my opinion!) Would a matter person call their channel Cool car Crap car? I don't think so!
I must be the only person on earth that doesn’t like this car. I had a 2024 Type R for only three months before getting rid of it. Although it is very nice car, it was horrible to drive on my daily commute. My biggest complaints were no power in 1st-2nd gear, it’s just hit fast in any way, the shifter and steering are overly heavy, and the exhaust is stone quiet. The seats are also too tight if you weigh over 180lbs or so. I will say, the body and interior are beautiful. The wide body, paint, wheels, red carpet, and quality of the seats are standouts. All in all, I just couldn’t justify keeping a car that I don’t enjoy driving.
Im sure there are others! I am putting together another followup that will talk about some of the things you mention. Right now I am enjoying it, and in comfort I find the steering and shifter great. I also weigh a bit over 200, (which I shouldn't.. sheesh where did those lbs come from???) and I find the seats really comfortable. Makes sense you didnt keep it and I'm sure you probably didn't lose too much $$ in selling. (maybe made $$?)
Seems everything is expensive these days. In Canada the price is actually "lower" than USA if you look at the exchange. Still too much money for most cars these days!
Since I bought it with my own money, I guess I have to appreciate your comment but disagree! I'll go over some of my favourite things about the car in a later episode, but between the shifter, seats, bespoke body panels and that it;s most likely the last ICE Type R, I think that makes it quite special.
@@CoolcarCrapcar it is an amazing car dont get me wrong i also have one purchase 2 months ago but i honestly prefer the 8th gen si mugen sold my mugen si to get this and i regret doing it
That makes sense. Hopefully you can get a local dealer to be reasonable? Have you considered looking outside your area? Lots of people have bought and drive it shipped to save $$, and you also get an adventure and a story for free!
Ya, I'm still pinching myself... I havent' had a fun car since before COVID when I sold my Fiesta ST to my son and had planned on buying something else... except everything used sporty went up like 20%, so waited.
Got a link?
sir, u should look after Spoon's parts for the fl5, they are 1 of the best aftermarket Honda tuners
If I ever mod it, I will definitely look at Spoon products; only have heard too things about them!
He's only 29 yo. Don't do drugs, kids. 😅
@@CoolcarCrapcar same. I'm 750kms in myself. The dealer said just drive it and it'll be fine but I'd rather be mechanically sympathetic.
I am still on the lookout for a non abused ST, then would be my everyday driver / all
Seasons vs. The Type R.
Congrats on the new purchase! Honda Civic Type R is a legend! 💯💯💯
So far so good!
That is a great deal! They are pretty reliable but not very exciting to drive. Thx for sub!
I love this car. Been driving it for about 3 weeks now and it’s probably the best performing FWD I’ve ever owned.
Maybe next summer; would love to hear the difference between the two; do you have a link to someone who might have a comparison?
Why not just get the Integra Type S......lmfao!!
Lots to learn about the car and will have a series of ownership videos on the car.
they've been doing this since the FD2, kinda stupid tbh

As an AMG owner I wouldn't mine owning a Type R which seems more fun
I was wondering why sometimes the handbrake released automatically and not require the button in my 23 SI. Is HOLD button a true parking brake?
You have to have your seat belt on and you can drive off e brake, in first gear. Fk8 is that way don't see why it would be changed
I just realized I needed to have my seatbelt on before driving away with electronic on. Lots to still learn! Now it works (both forward and reverse)
Oh yes, that’s right, seatbelt has to buckled in for this to work. Darn safety nannies
Great review! Really enjoyed it! Awesome car!
Glad you liked it. Filming 1000km update in a few days.
This is my new favourite car now
What makes you think that?
Congratulations on your purchase! The FL5 is definitely one of the best cars Honda ever made. I’ve daily my 2024 Boost Blue FL5 since January and love it. Such a fun car to drive. I advise you to upgrade your coolant tank ASAP. They tend to crack/leak even at low miles.
Oh, I had heard about some cracking but though it was people tracking their cars. I wonder if Honda has upgraded it in the 2024 models? I'll ask the parts guy next week when I get them to straighten my steering wheel.
Beautiful car when I look at from my rear view mirror of my GRC driving through the mountain pass.
At least you’ll get the first speeding ticket!
I hear you! The only thing I would want to change would be the exhaust sound. (and maybe the Type S adaptive module) Right now, not doing anything!
Beautiful car! Congrats on the purchase. Your neighborhood though 👌🏼
Thanks 👍
Nice ride man 👍🏼
Thanks! Working in my 2nd video for next week; taking everyone on a POV photoshoot of the car! (I do magazine style shoots) stay tuned
Congrats! I took delivery of mine in June, in Japan. Our cars might be manufactured around the same time as my serial number is 29316!
Good job doing this review, look forward to more
Thanks. I'm working on a few update videos as I get more km on it, and before winter hits.
Thank you for the video! I see that Canadian model comes with parking sensors... I wish mine had them too because US model doesn't come with them.
Yes we did get those. We didn’t get any tpms system though.
Good info!
I have the same car …. Best ever!
I am sure hoping so! Took a big enough chunk out of my bank account! Thank goodness my dealer didn’t gouge me like so many others.
Waiting till all the kids start dropping these on the used market because they can't afford the payments at 0 down 10% interest lmfao.
Good point. Will see! I don't think that happened with the FK8, though that's my observance in Canada.
That's the wrong move with a type R.These cars will be beat up,tuned and modified
paid mine off 🙂
I dont think they know how to drive manual.
Congrats!!
Was a pretty big surprise. Was expecting (maybe) next Spring.
I love Canadians. They just have good vibes
Oh, I have some bad vibe days... just not on camera!
picking mine up on Monday here in Wisconsin been waiting a year and a half I also own an Fk8 it's been such a great car I know the new one is gonna be great as well I was gonna trade the fk8 for the fl5 but I decided I'm going to keep them both
Should be interesting for you to compare them both. I’m planning a fk8 vs fl5 video with my nephew, but he’s pretty shy and is hesitant to be on camera. We will see.
2nd gear synchro works the hardest. Make sure all the oils are warmed up nicely before driving that car hard.
I still
Think the brake hold feature in civics is a bit gimmicky. I understand it simply holds
Brakes at a complete stop so you can take your foot off the brake pedal and relax… I honestly don’t want to trust a switch and motor to do that; I’ll just keep my foot on the brake myself!
@CoolcarCrapcar I see what you're saying, it does take some getting used to, but it's a common feature now, I think manual handbrakes are becoming obsolete, but I agree, better for clutch control.
After discontinued ford focus ST , I think this will be best choice .
I almost bought a used Focus RS just before this type R landed on my lap. Would have saved $$$ but had waited for this one 27 months so bailed on the RS. Still looking for a nice s2000 at some point.
Great review and quality video. Subbed!
Thanks for the sub!
Totally understand. This Type R is definitely a 2nd car for me and I love the shifter.
Just got my 2020 civic si coupe. My first car 😄
I have had two Si coupes in the past; great cars. (well one was an SiR) Enjoy!
also it might be the panel that’s directly underneath the glove box. mine does that. i can’t stand it. its the main rattle but i have quite a few. my driver window will vibrate also. haven’t taken it to the dealer. hate them messing with stuff. whatever they fix
you will get 2 more rattles in its place
I beat golf R easily on my R ... plus who cares about Ford trash cars
That is interesting. I figured out I need my seatbelt on to have it automatically release. My subaru releases without the brake.
ahhh ok. i think you figured it out. that’s probably why sometimes it would go off on its own and sometimes not. i didn’t think about having the seatbelt on.
If you go to Japan, everything is quiet everywhere. So they will make their cars quiet too. I like it. I prefer a quiet exhaust.
Interesting. I know there are many countries that have noise laws so that makes sense.
I saw reports of the rattle coming from the center speaker on the dash, there’s a video showing how to fix it
I think it might be gone... Dealer said they stuffed some foam "somewhere" and by coincidence or genius, I havent heard the rattle/buzz last couple of times I've driven it (but my windows have been open, enjoying the last fleeting summer moments.
Greetings fellow Winnipegers! Nice review, will going wait for your after brake in report. Subscribe and follow done.
I’m getting there! 850km on it. I’m also going to produce an install video on a rock guard mesh product I’m getting from a cdn. Company sometime this week.
Such a gorgeous car!
Thanks. I like it quite a bit though am a bit old school where sports cars are two doors. The car looks better in real life than pictures.
Either I get this CTR, or i get the ITS. By next year, I'll be driving one. Hopefully, at a reasonable price.
I'm not sure if it's market specific but in the states I'm able to disengage the parking brake in 1st gear.
Hmmm. Well I'm out of town til next week so will have to try again. So far I've given a decent amount of gas and let out the clutch and it hasn't come off yet... maybe I have to do a burnout!
@@CoolcarCrapcarStrange it works on mine, at least in reverse. Not sure I’ve tried it going forward yet. Also in Canada.
I found out my seatbelt has to be on before it works. Look mom, I can still learn new things!
Oh interesting, I tried mine today and it didn’t work so maybe I didn’t have my seatbelt on yet! Good to know!
I wish they made a full body style i hate the batchback
Interesting. I feel the car’s worst view is from the side where you can really see its length. In my opinion the hatch profile seems to make it look less long than the sedan. I wish they had a small version; maybe they’ll make a Type R prelude?
🤡Too funny🤡 - I had a deposit on a GR Corolla for 26 months before I took delivery of my Circuit. (I passed on a few Core models that were offered at about month 20)
I have not installed my front plate either. I think it is not as noticeable as the plate is white & the car is white. I had a red 911 where the mount got loose to I took it off to sort it out.
2 days later I got a no plate ticket👎
I agree as the air flow is very nice with a sun roof crack open.
(& that is a thing)
I got that ticket about 9 years ago.
It is possible the younger cops are more lenient than the older old school big headed authoritarian kurmudgen cops are...
disconnect that pipe in fake sound above the glove compartment. There's videos of how to do that.
I have seen those. Not sure I want to pop that grill out just yet... Winter in 5 weeks so probably wait til Spring to try anything new.
@@CoolcarCrapcar Okay good, as long as you know you can in the future. Worst case, dealership mechanic. But to hear how the raw engine noise sound like is going to be sweet.
Very well done, but How tall are you? How is the head clearance? I'm curious. Thank you
Great question! I am a touch over 6’, and have at least 4” of headroom if the seat is at its lowest setting. I have the seat “jacked up” 5 pulls of the lever so I not so low. Tons of headroom and I sit quite vertical
@@CoolcarCrapcar ahhhh. Interesting. I'm 6’4. Loved the car, thinking about getting one, but I dont wanna be crammed in there 😦. Thanks for responding
I dont know if the regular civic has the same seat height as teh Type R, but you could start by finding a regular FL5 and see if you fit. I"d guess you'd fit, this car has about the most head room of any car I've owned, including suv's.
How do you get your headlights to blink like that? I just got my 24 Type R last week.
Thats what happens with LED lights and faster shutter speeds (which the GoPro would have been using in bright light) Just shows up on photographs and video depending on the shutter speed of the camera. How do you like you car?
@@CoolcarCrapcar lol, ok. That makes sense. I was wondering why I couldn't find that setting. 😂
@@CoolcarCrapcar found it thank you
How steep is the insurance on this? I have to imagine a beauty like this would be a target for thieves 😢
In Manitoba we have public insurance, and I have close to the maximum of “points” that you gain by not having accidents. So I’m paying about $1300 cdn a year, but full price would
Have been over $2000 and this is for pleasure use, not for driving to work. More$$ for the full coverage. About the same as my 2019 Subaru outback, so not terrible.
@@CoolcarCrapcarthat's reasonable. In Ontario I think it would be through the roof.
Rattle on the door by the speaker or behind your infotainment system.
@highpeaks6542 thanks! I will try zeroing in on the location when I get back to the car next week.
You waited 51 months for the car? WOW! Did you get it for MSRP or did they charge above that too?
My math was bad (and corrected in subtitle) so was only 27 months. I kinda got it for MSRP, but had to buy a few extras like mats. The car came
With ceramic coating at the request of the person ahead of me on the list (who changed his mind) so had to pay for that.
@@CoolcarCrapcar Still 27 months is a long time to wait. Looking at one of the car buying sites, there are 5 type R's within 30 miles of me here in the US available. Sorry things are so different in Canada.
That price tag is high for 315hp. Not to mention, it is a front wheel drive. Say no drifting
I agree on the price, but everything is expensive these days!
Cool car. Please drive it, don’t let it sit in garage
Definitely! Its 7 months of snow and cold
Here in Winnipeg, so it will sit during those months only. I’m very close to my 1000km break in period and will fill an update episode soon.
Not bad, AAAAAAAAAAAA!
If you were a Civic pirate it'd be "Not bad, RRRRRRRRRRR"...
This car is literally an insta classic.
If you don't like it, it doesn't mean much.
One of the reasons I waited 27 months for it!
Dealerships are so greedy in the NA
Last ICE on type R? where did you hear that? That cannot be true
I can’t point my finger at an exact article, but many sources are saying the next version of the type r will be hybrid. I think that’s part of the rush to buy one. I could be wrong, as its happened before!
Given industry trends not hard to believe last ICE/manual CTR
Good luck. Kids can’t afford to finance 50k. Paid cash for mine
Seems everything is crazy expensive these days. I usually buy slightly used. Only reason I bought this new was that the used ones were 15-20k more than new here in Canada!
To slow 😔 + fwd = very underwhelming for street but for track only is good.
I’ll get back to you once I break it in! Super high horsepower cars are generally only fun at speeds that will land you in jail, where I feel really good handling cars either way less hp. Are fun at normal or less than high speed driving. We will see; stay tuned for more updates on the car and my experience with it.
Looks unfinished by not adding some red inserts on the backseats.
I’m making a list of disappointments and positives for an upcoming video. I obviously totally agree!
Well it’s not gonna be crap …
I sure hope not! 1000 km update coming next week!
Why not just raise the camera so you don't have to stoop like that?
I start all my videos like that, usually with my daughter or son in the other corner. Just a style decision to be different I guess. I also usually have different segments like the Dad joke, and does it donut. This type r series has started differently as I’ll have updates on ownership. Thx for comment!
Great car. I just hate the way it's design. Looks so chunky
What parts do you think are chunky? I love the wide fenders; reminds me of the early m3 cars from BMW.
The wing makes this car embarrassing to own if you're an adult. I'll take the Integra type S in black any day
I can understand your opinion; for me it’s not too bad but at least it’s not as crazy as the fk8 one (in my opinion) Maybe Honda or someone else will make a replacement that hugs the body.
Great car but when i see the prices im not sure its worth it- competing woth too many honda fanboys- and i drive an m2 competition
You have a point. An m2 base model if at msrp would have been about 15k more
Than this R. I had a 135M back in 2007 and loved it, but knew too many people with huge repair bills, so sold it before warranty ran out. Definitely would consider one in the future!
@@CoolcarCrapcar i also had a 135 - yeah the repair bills for that one were costly due to oil leaks water pump etc. the m2 has been solid so far
Crap. I use to work for Honda and stopped by the other day and they are having tons of issues
Interesting. I haven’t read about too many problems with the type R so cross my fingers! (At least major parts are carryovers from FK8 and should be reliable…)
@@CoolcarCrapcar I was at Honda about 2 months ago and they had 3 FL5’s up there. One had little under 5,000 miles and was having issues
Wheels. We aren’t 90s rappers.
Good catch. I don't even like rap!
I will drive type R until 60
Well I'm starting at 60! (cant believe I'm actually that old; I'm pretty sure my maturity is about 40 yrs younger and thats not just my opinion!) Would a matter person call their channel Cool car Crap car? I don't think so!
I'll be 60 in December. When my wife ridicules me for getting one , I will blame you.😅😅😅
Okay, I'll get ready for her chastisement!
It’s cool BUT not 50k cool…
Seems everything is expensive these days. In Canada the price is actually "lower" than USA if you look at the exchange. Still too much money for most cars these days!
Nothing special about this type r i preffer the 8th gen civic si typer r jdm or a mugen
Since I bought it with my own money, I guess I have to appreciate your comment but disagree! I'll go over some of my favourite things about the car in a later episode, but between the shifter, seats, bespoke body panels and that it;s most likely the last ICE Type R, I think that makes it quite special.
@@CoolcarCrapcar it is an amazing car dont get me wrong i also have one purchase 2 months ago but i honestly prefer the 8th gen si mugen sold my mugen si to get this and i regret doing it
Ahh, no. Not worth that.
Why?
I'm waiting for interest rates to drop next month. They sitting on the lots with no bites but I won't pay 5k ADM.
m
That makes sense. Hopefully you can get a local dealer to be reasonable? Have you considered looking outside your area? Lots of people have bought and drive it shipped to save $$, and you also get an adventure and a story for free!
Jealousssss
Ya, I'm still pinching myself... I havent' had a fun car since before COVID when I sold my Fiesta ST to my son and had planned on buying something else... except everything used sporty went up like 20%, so waited.
@@CoolcarCrapcar The wait seems like it was definitely worth it with this one! She's a gem
