It isn't about how much weight you haul, it is whether or not the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the vehicle is 26,001 pounds or more. If the dump truck is rated at 26,001 or more, minimally, you would need a Class B CDL. If the GVWR is 26,000 pounds or less, then you do not.
Wow they are a lot more lenient than they use to be. I passed my CDL in 1995 and had to do it again to become a state certified instructor in 2001. Use to be a point every pull up and you could only encroach one time, second you failed. Hit the back cone on the 45 degree alley dock you failed. No free pull ups and you were not allowed to exit the vehicle. You were allowed 6 point, 7th was failed.
Great video but please, use your four way flashers while backing the commercial motor vehicle. In many jurisdictions not using flashers while backing is an automatic failure on the CDL test.

At the time the video was produced, parallel parking was not a requirement in Florida. With ELDT, it is now required, but it is expected the entire maneuver process will be changing this upcoming summer -- when we have the approved specifics, we plan to make an updated video..
@@alyssalynettesierra317 Passed the first try. Going to school might be worth it though, it was hard getting a job without a school certificate and no experience.
The state does not want the specific dimensions of the maneuvers public. Yes, we will be offering the Entry Level Driver Training requirements so that CDL applicants can take the Skills Test when it is mandated by FLHSMV.
The video demonstrates the courses used for the CDL skills tests in Florida (parallel parking is not required in Florida for the skills test, but is required for completing the Entry Level Driver Training Behind the Wheel Range maneuvers). The entire process of backing is a fluid movement that requires adjustments to steering based on the alignment of the truck and trailer at the time. These skills are acquired through practice; not memorization of how many turns and when to turn, etc.; those will vary depending on length of the trailer and many other factors.
And when you get your job, and you're backing and need to get out a 3rd time to make sure you're not going to run over the Lexus parked near to your path, your boss will thank you. GMAFB.

Currently getting ready for week 4 of CDL school and I am on here desperately seeking any and all knowledge on my alley docking as the instructor they have put me with for this is complete garbage and does not even know how to set you up to begin the move, does not engage me to correct what is wrong but rather just guides you into the box with enough points to damn near fail out of that portion of the test.

Is parallel parking still a manuver that we have to do if chosen by the examiner? Or is it only the there manuvers in this video? I'm in Utah
Jose Barajas it might be. Here in New York you do straight back, alley dock and parallel parking
Indiana is straight back, parallel and offset.
Is the Alley Dock a 90 degree or 45?
The rig would start its backing toward the dock from a 90 degree angle.
I was thinking too if is 90 or 45
What’s the sq footage of the wall in front on the alley dock? And how long is this truck and trailer?
