The onigiri are usually delivered/put on the shelf in the late evening/early morning, so you have to hit all the stores at dawn, if you want variety, otherwise you get leftovers as the day goes on.
The same usually goes for the chicken. Lawson's, 7/11 and Familymart all have the fried chicken thigh but again, you have to get there early in the morning or you have to be there when they heat up the fryer and fry a second batch throughout the day.
For Lawson's my favorite was actually the 'fried squid stick' but you wouldn't always be able to get it.

I honestly prefer the Kyoto/Osaka side, AKA Kansai, to the Tokyo side most of the time. Food scene is amazing, it's generally more chill, and there are some amazing places. Did you guys check out the Kaiyukan Aquatium when you went to Tempozan? It was literally right next to it, massive aquarium where you ride up a long escalator tot he top, then circle your way down around a massive central tank. It's one of my favorite places and we always go there if we're there with a new visitor on a trip.

7 eleven has a mochi taiyaki. It's the only conbini chain exclusive item, that influences which conbini I'd choose.

Onigiri has been the best breakfast I had back when I visited Japan.
A tip to those who wants to save a bit but if you are near a grocery store sometimes the onigiri there are on sale, same thing too in the convenience stores

Man, you are bringing me back - I visited Japan over the summer, including the Giant Wheel and Aquarium at Osaka Bay, and the Karaage-Kun from Lawsons was a nice bit of comfort food for my first time outside the US.
That and the Coffee Cream Sandwiches from 7-11 that I had for Breakfast basically every day I was there.
Though if there's any food I miss from there? Onigiri Bongo in Tokyo. I got a Salmon Onigiri and a Karaage Scrap Onigiri and both were phenomenal!

Spicy fami chiki in between the 2 halves of an egg sando is the go to move. I had it for breakfast at least 5 times over my 2 week trip in August.

Onigiri opening tip... After opening the center, jiggle one side to the side, fold and hold, and then jiggle the other side to the side... And you should have an unripped nori

I opted not to eat from convenience store much because I prefer real meal. But my fav was the salted grill chicken on a stick, shio yakitori? From Family Mart. It's often the first thing I bought after I arrived in Tokyo. And when I was in Tokyo in May, I tried the fruit shake from both Lawson and 7-Eleven. The Lawson one was frozen and you need to add hot milk from the coffee machine. The 7-Eleven was cut up frozen fruits in a cup that you put in their blender unit. Oddly enough, I prefer the Lawson one.

The best onigiri I had was in Okayama. At Okayama station in the food court on the upper floor was a shop that did a 2 onigiri and 3 pieces of karaage for cheap (I want to say 500 yen). I'd pick up a couple of onigiri and some karaage and hop on the bullet train in the morning when we went out. My family would go to the bakery out in front before the station gates but it was mostly sweet stuff.

Ooooooooooooo! That brings back so many memories from when I was an exchange student lol.
Since you are in Japan, I have a video recommendation. You should do a convenience store gourmet!
The rules are that you have to make as good of a meal possible with only ingredients from convenience stores. You can find things like sausages, cheese, onigiri, curry, etc. I think that that would make for a fun video! For example, buying instant ramen for the seasoning, disassembling onigiri for the rice, etc.
It should taste well and look appetizing, and maybe for fun you could compare the costs of your konbini gourmet compared to what you'd normally make lol.
Also, please try out the beef bowl stores! You can compare those! For example, Sukiya, Yoshinoya, Matsuya. It's so delicious and especially cheap compared to where I am from.
Finally I'd recommend you to try out strong zero too. I think that now there's strawberry flavour. I am sure that you will love those!

I could just be putting 2 unrelated ideas together and making an assumption however, as far as I know there are rules to how cooked rice has to be stored in Japan due to Bacillus cereus which is a bacteria that can grow on cooked rice that is stored incorrectly. So there is a solid chance that your assumption that the reason they were all at about the same temperature and similar experience wise is because of that.
