I wonder if he accidentally cut it before before the answer was given, and happened to be right, or if he realized something about the system that he just knew it would have to be cut. It's like the memory game, you can remember 2234 for a display of 1,2,3,4 (in that order), which is what position you press. It's still nice to tell the person what that number is, though, because some of the future presses rely on previous ones.

Omg this is exactly the opposite of what my friends and I do, we normally have two diffusers and three experts. But instead of being composed and clam we always end up screaming instructions at each other on what to do and how to solve it. Very nice.
