- Walkthru with the covers off of the Browning Golden eagle Mark 3 receiver showing the single dial 30 channel version and the 60 channel dual dial HF extension version. Browning took one of the fixed crystal slots away and added a +30 channel crystal on the VFO with an updated dual dial. The one here, someone also added a 3rd crystal that is -30 from the normal VFO dial. Hence that one has no place for a fixed channel crystal, but the vfo has 3 positions. Normal CB channels 1-30, HF channels 30-60 and in this one has been modded, non factory with the XTAL position gping to the 3rd crystal -30 to 1. The receiver frequencies have nothing to do with the transmitter, and vice versa, the transmitter, and the transmitters VFO if it has one, has nothing to do with the receiver. Also, all Browning Mark III SSB radios are the exact same size. The Mark 3 AM only transmitter is a lot smaller. There is not any Mark 3 AM only receivers made.

I Love these kind of videos.
This is like the history channel 😂. Thanks Doc
Thanks
Very informative. I'm pulling my MKIIIs out for the first time since 2005. Bought them when I was 16 and used them for years on ch 23....... that was 43 years ago. :) Cheers
Glad it was helpful!

Very informative video! Thank you.
You are welcome!
tramdr waving an educational hand. Makes my head hurt but. I enjoy it. Like fire water
When my great Nephew would come over, I used to try to drill some Edumacation into him. He used to say that. All that learning stuff made his 'Head Hurt'
Thank you sir! A very good explanation of my favorite base radio. As a teenager in the 70’s I wanted one so bad! But I had no money. Now I have one and installed the high frequency in my receiver. It really walks the dog!
Considered by many, the best CB ever made. I am a Tram guy though.
Good morning TramDr. I just appreciate how much time you spend on the mk 3s. I am learning a lot. I ordered the 5k 10wt resistor from Barkett. Thank you again. Your BUG aka 6ixth fiveeeee four in the Desert 🏜.
Thanks.
Infamous mode switch.
I thought the infamous 'Mode' switch was the AM/SSB switch.
Only on the transmitter. I've never seen or heard of the receiver mode switch failing.
@@tramdr that’s what I always heard.
Early mark three receivers had the same eagle as the Mark two and original golden eagle. They did not have much detail to them and had an almost smooth texture. Later Mark three receivers had an eagle that was very detailed.
And the speaker grills were different color and installed differently between early and late models
Yes Sir.
A wall of Brownings.
Thanks for the lecture.
Browning's don't die, they multiply.
1011's are notorious for multiplication...
Hi, Tramdr! I'm Dollie in N.C. I'm new to the Brownings. Just bought a Mark III with the HF mode on the switch. I am receiving the hi channels like channel 30 on the HF mode but I can't transmit. Do I need to install the HF crystal on the inside like you show in the vid? Also, how do I spot the thing? Please explain. Any help would be very nice. I love this thing. I just want to be able to go to the higher channels. Thank You: Dollie
The receive and transmit are totally separate. To transmit above 23 you need a VFO on the transmitter. The Siltronix 90 VFO number 3 is the most popular, but some others will work too, including a modern DDS VFO. Spot is when the transmitter puts out a small signal that the receiver will pick up so you can tune the receiver to where the transmitter is. Say you had a VFO on the transmitter and you had the transmitter 'VFO' on channel 55. You would then hold the spot switch and tune the receiver and when tuned in, the receiver would be on 55 too.
Does the browning mark III have a variable for the dead key on it?
They do not come with one, they have to be modded to do that.
GOOD MORNING TRAMDR, I WAS WONDERING IF YOU MIGHT HAVE A TRANSFORMER FOR MKIII RECEIVER THAT I CAN PURCHASE FROM YOU? BUG AKA 654 LAS VEGAS NEVADA. BUG IN THE DESERT.
No but I may have a complete receiver.
