I started learning Cantonese as an obligation, but after following your classes on line, I love the language, it is so logical, musical, and pleasant. Thank you very much
I learned Cantonese because i lived in HK for 9 years. I have stopped learning now but like these videos to keep refreshing what i have previously learned.
I really appreciate these bite sized lessons in cantonese. They really boost my confidence to learnand speak the language with the locals where i live! Thank you!
Wow! Thanks Amanda. I learned much more Cantonese in 2 days watching your video than in 6 months forcing my friends and colleague in HK to teach me (of course their answer is always, no need to bother too much, we all speak English anyway)
OK I am learning Cantonese because work will take me to HK in the near future. I already speak Mandarin and Cantonese is quite approachable for Mandarin speakers to pick up fairly quickly. I have studied several European languages and thought I'd pick an Asian one for a change. It does feel like a lower hanging fruit for me.
I learn cantonese because I love Hong Kong movies in the 80s to late 90s. Golden age of Hong Kong cinema. Literally my childhood growing up, and now I’m rewatching these old movies and decided to learn cantonese so that I don’t have to read the subtitles all the time! These English subtitles (and eng dubs)are usually terrible anyway!
I once heard that when you speak to someone in a language they know, you speak to their intellect. When you speak to them in their mother tongue, you speak to their heart. I want to speak to my wife’s heart, so I’m TRYING TO learn her mother tongue.
Hi Amanda, do you have audio recordings of the sentences spoken without your explanation that are downloadable? After watching your lessons I like to listen over and over to the sentences you say with the english and chinese one after the other (like those 100 sentences videos), I put them on my phone and listen on repeat, they are perfect for memorizing patterns and reviewing. If you could make those audios and put on your patreon downloadle I would love that!! (Or on UA-cam free even would be amazing too. Thanks so much!)
@@5minutecantonese when you say it, it's sounds like "meh", in my old speaking (very old) lessons the sound is "mt", "mut". I was confused when I heard it the other way. I don't know if it's more formal or an old way of speaking. 多謝
Hii, thanks for the video, I have a question, hope it’s okay to ask. For the sentence asking why did you not go to school, is it okay to replace m4 with mou2? Thanks!
It’s hard to hear your voice. It would be great if you use microphone while recording video to improve sound quality of the videos. I still love your lessons
Good news! I have just purchased a mic🤣🤣🤣 Will use it later. But I still have several videos without it. Please tolerate for a while. Thanks for your support!
I learn cantonese because i heard that they want to destroy the cantonese language, i could hardly believe it ...I asked why and he said because it is 'happy talk'

almost perfect 🤩
zi2 neoi5 is the elegant way, very good. If you wanna make it more causal, you can say zai2 neoi2.

Same! But it took me 10 years to even start learning.

Why do I watch 5 Minutes Cantonese? Because I want to learn Cantonese!🤓
😂😂😂
Love your lessons! I may have missed a lesson but could you explain what a measure word is?
Please refer to lesson 11 and lesson 32😉
@Adam :
The English example equivalent would be
1) ' a plate' of food
2) 2 ' pieces' of paper
3) A ' bundle' of clothes
因為我鍾意學廣東話。
好好👍🏻
@@5minutecantonese "mut yeh", have you heard of people saying 咩嘢, like this before? It's in my very old spoken lessons.
we still use this now, means "what"

mut1 乜
me1 咩
You can choose either one.
The meaning is the same.
Is there a difference between when you would use 為乜 and 點解?
點解 means "WHY"
為乜 means "for what"
Hii, thanks for the video, I have a question, hope it’s okay to ask. For the sentence asking why did you not go to school, is it okay to replace m4 with mou2? Thanks!
Yes! In this case, you can use either one.😄
因為我好朋友講廣東話 !
Is it okay or "我嘅" would be better in this case ? 😅
Both of them are correct. But personally I like the one without 嘅 better.😁
Nei hou😉

phonetically a J does not sound like a Y unless it is mexican please review
Jyutping System is different from English phonics. J in jyutping sounds the same as German J which is Y sound in English
