    Oh the life of being a boat owner. Don’t let things get you down Joe. We all drop stuff into the water. I dropped my Anchor in a few weeks ago. Still haven’t fished it out.

    One day you will look back with pride and say, "we did that"! The cold, the backaches, the hours that you both must feel will never end will fade as you cruise your narrowboat and hug each other with love and appreciation at what you have achieved. Keep believing.

    I love the cedar seating and the floor is pure genius! You guys are smashing it. We painted our boat ourselves this year. We watched John Barnard on UA-cam to learn what to do and bought the tools he suggested. Nine coats later we are finally proud of the finish we've achieved. We spent 4 weeks under a noisy, motorway bridge to keep out of the sun and rain. Some mornings we got up to find there'd been a fly strike and we had to rub everything down again. There are some days when nothing seems to go right but it is SO worth it when you get it all done yourself. Keep going guys 👍xx

      Thank you that’s reassuring we’re looking forward to painting the boat although it’ll be in a few stages eg roof first (to allow for solar), bow & stern decks & then the sides etc. The local dry dock is booked up for ages so hoping we get the odd decent week throughout this year at some point! Will check out John Barnard!

    Wow the change in your boat is really showing now. The floor is amazing and the benches are beautiful. Joe your skills are fantastic and never ending. Bummer about the gearbox but together with the work you have completed on the engine you should have many miles of trouble free cruising. Keep on going you will have the most amazing home. Talking about changes in their boat, I wonder how Danni & Joe are changing as the build progresses, you know they have to be. Being young, resilient, smart, diligent, they will be fine, even with the momentary insanity of deciding to build a boat. :)

    I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I haven't yet gone back to see where you're at in terms of your boat rehabilitation project. I do have a bad habit of offering unwanted advice on occasions and I still keep doing it but I can't resist so here it is with my apologies. Regarding your two companionway swinging doors I have seen a number of boats that have completely abolished their doors altogether and replaced them with heavy duty drop-in panels of clear perspex. If you're following other channels I think Sailing Uma was the first one to do it. They have cut their panels into halves, cut longitudinally giving them a choice of options for ventilation and privacy. One advantage of the perspex is to admit more light. Of course a simple pull across curtain is easily added if seclusion is desired. That's all from me, I'm looking forward to watching you making progress through your daunting project! 'Character building' I think they call it!

    Hi Danni and Joe. Things are looking great. Once you got the hang of the 1st mushroom, looked like the others went more smoothly. As for always having to find everything, I bought a shed because my house is so small I have nowhere to store the tools. Now that everything is in the shed, I can’t find a darn thing. I have bought 3 tape measures since the shed went in this past June. Love the rope between the boards. As for all of the things that have gone wrong, they will be but a memory when you are cruising in the spring. Love your channel.

    The boat is looking fantastic. Just wondering what you have to finish before you can put the heat in? And are you doing a fire or Diesel heater? About 35 years ago we did the same thing to a house. We had a lot of help from family and friends. We both worked full time and had 2 young children. We had a few moments when we thought why did we start this. We have many memories and learned not to take things to seriously, except safety first. It took 9 months to make it livable. Notice I didn’t say finished. Hang in there and hug each other as much as possible.

I think you understand this because of the way you work together and still able to joke a bit, at times of great stress.

    All boats must have a good set of fishing magnets on a rope bow and stern. Not only for crap you drop in the drink but it’s a fun thing to do along waterways, bridges, and marinas, I’m here in the states don’t have a long boat but you will find some cool stuff. I like magnet fishing under and around bridges, you can find stolen items lots of things from safes, jewelry, stolen bikes, and guns, I have always called the police when I find a gun, found 17 of them to date. Plus gives you something to do while held up. The fishing gear I find lol all I have to by is line and sinkers that is if the hooks are to rotted. I even carry a magnet and line in the vehicle and stop on or at bridges and throw the magnet in off bridges. That’s how I found the lions share of guns and safes. On waterways where no or next to no boats go car overpass’s over creeks and streams are treasure troves. Go on Amazon and search Fishing Magnets. I have 2 one has a 900 pound draw and the other has a 1,500 pound draw. Right metal and right contact they will lift that weight and the magnets weigh less then 3 pounds. Nothing like a good old fashioned treasure hunt.

When all this is done you and Danny can sit back and say WE done this ,never seen anyone do that before corking floorboard before,hope you allowed away for the conditions to escape from the bottom of the hull ? ,till next time take care keep safe, John 👀🌹🇬🇧🤷‍♀️👏👍🙌🥂🥂

      @DanniandJoe  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks John! I was a bit intimidated by the gearbox but it came out okay in the end, I’ve removed an engine from a car before and I’d definitely say this was easier than that. The mushrooms are metal, they’re only on temporarily as we’ll need to remove them to fit the ceiling plywood (core cut down though from the roof for the vents). We’ve still got access to the hull through the engine bilge and also our hatches for the pantry. Cheers

      Yes a friend gave us some lovely stainless bolts and lent us hit tap & cutting compound, they’re being removed when we fit the plywood ceiling & will then be re-sealed properly

    Hi Guys. Really enjoy your blog and your commitment to getting your old girl good again. Regarding your gearbox issue ..... I have a similar issue with my Hurth HBW150, and a similar dilemma, new or refurbish? I am (was) just about to order a new one when I saw your latest video, can I ask where you are sending your box for refurb and if you have been given an indication of turnaround time? Many thanks and good luck again. Ian

      Hi Ian, funnily enough the chap who refurbished it said ours is a HBW150, pop us an email at danniandjoetravel@gmail.com and I’ll pass his details over it was roughly 2 weeks in total including postage and what not
