Really helpful video. Could you list the products you used - primer + wood filler, but what did you use to get the final finish? Also which waterproof primer did you use?
For primer we used guardz it is a sealer not a primer.. there is a difference. guardz penetrates the open pore nature of mdf, then dries and gets very hard. I will do it twice to make sure ther are no open “pores”. Then sand with 320/220.. bindo glazing putty - then after that your all set to use what ever products your familiar with .
Question: is it better to laminate mdf vs paint mdf on new kitchen cabinets ....we are about to order new doors for our kitchen cupboards and the designer is suggesting that she will have the new mdf doors painted but we heard that laminating the doors may be better because painted mdf boards could puff out if they get scratched and then water gets into the scratch
I’m not sure what you mean by have them laminated- there are doors that get sold that have a material that is almost shrunk wrapped onto the mdf. It works until it gets wet. If they are properly painted you should be fine. Oil primer helps with blocking moisture. The doors can also be caulked where mdf meets wood to eliminate water from seeping in cracks. Keep the water away. Only clean with water and vinegar 50/50 mix and you should be fine.
Thanks for asking!! We do several coats- we treat the immediate area 1st and slow to soak in and dry, sand etc- then when all is ready prime the whole door or item so the primer is uniform color/ sheen/ etc
Maricela Leon sane process as stained cabinets. Clean them, scuff sand, I would use an oil primer such as cover stain ( help prevent potential water damage,) then paint them the color of choice
Great video mate! Have a question for you, what did you use to paint the panel? Normal spray can? Or a spray gun with a compreser? Talking about the finish paint.
Chris Antoniou sorry I missed this question. I have both types- it depends where I am spraying at. We use cabinet type paint- we have a airless sprayer with the green tips 208, then a hvlp gun from FX. I have used a compressor type hvlp gun as well but I no longer have the large compressor needed for it to operate properly.
Excellent video. I have exactly same door and issue! Great help! Thank you. One more question, can you post the link of what kind of paint you are using? I am going to use same thing !
Looks nice but your explanation was insufficient. I still have no idea his to do it. My cabinets are swollen, doors, floor and facing from hot water heater leak.
jasneskis sorry I missed this comment - it is not easy- I have been working on it for a few years. There is also a difference in the type of mdf and when it was made. (No easy answer for this problem)
Valerie Wilson hard to show every step as I was doing the video as I was working- I made this more of that they can be fixed (in some situations) and what we did to fix this one. Thanks for the feedback/ I will have to find another one and make a step by step how to
Great job thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!

Do you only spray the damaged areas with primer? Or treat the entire cabinet with primer before paint? Can you use a cabinet paint after primer ?

Good video, I am wondering how to find exact matching paint for non glossy cabinet.
Try Rust-Oelum painters finish satin white 👌
Do you have to repaint all the cabinets if you patch one, due to discolouration ?
Man.. loaded question.. once you paint one- typically your painting them all if they are older
Hello. Can this method be used for bathroom vanity unit door which is MDF with a plastic veneer covering it?
I don’t think so
How would I go about repainting mdf cabinets that are currently white. I would like to paint a different color.
Maricela Leon sane process as stained cabinets. Clean them, scuff sand, I would use an oil primer such as cover stain ( help prevent potential water damage,) then paint them the color of choice
Can you do this with non painted cabinets?
Not sure I understand what you mean

inga henry we are using Aqualente- by ML Campbell.
What kind of paint spray can did you use for the finish ?
chrisemch1 it was a primer- bin shellac based sealer
Is the door you are repairing just mdf painted with wood paint? Or does it have a laminate coating type finish?
This was a mdf door with primer and paint. No laminate

Didn’t show how you painted it. 👎🏾
