I think it's so interesting how much we obsess over things that work for other people. If you don't enjoy crochet OK that's fine for you but it's not for you to worry about for other people. We all have to find what works for us and what we enjoy. Maybe wigs work for one girl and micro links for the next but you can't ditch someone just because they don't love the exact same thing you love. It's so funny how they say miss Dorothy has all that money why does she wear her hair like that? The truth is she has all that money so she can wear what she wants and that's what she wants. I don't love the knots showing myself but if she doesn't care then why should I care. Miss Dorothy is free and loving her hair and laughing all the way to the bank while we sit at home broke judging the style that she chooses. I learned a long time ago that I have to do what works for me and not worried about what is it's "fashionable". I remember when I 1st started wearing wash and goes People would ask why didn't I do my hair or do I have a Jerry Carol or they would make make crazy comments. When the trend finally caught on and more and more people started wearing wash and goes and natural hair everybody who had jokes was coming back to me to ask me how I get my hair like that? Long story short whether it's hair or anything in life you do you. What works best for you. Whatever helps you to reach your goals do that and don't worry about what everybody else is doing or laughing at.

My theory is that it gets so much slander because when crochet is done right you can't even tell it's crochet, so when they see bad jobs or jobs where the wearer is not trying to hide the knots they think that's every time someone wears it. Perfect examples are all of you who have channels and demonstrate the installs which are unclockable. See those in the street and you will think it's a lace front, a sew-in, or someone's natural hair. Back in the 80's weaves were treated like this, and back then we saw so many bad examples of them, but of course, just as many good and great ones, and people could not resist badmouthing them for so many reasons. People unfortunately have a tendency to have a need to pretend they are better than everyone else and will look for any reason they can use to serve as "evidence".

I love crochet hair, and I totally agree its all about the install. Even though the hair is synthetic I feel like it gives me a more natural look. I never understood why people hate on crotchet hair so much. I know a lot people rocking frontal and lace front wigs with " baby hairs" looking a hot mess.

I hope the naysayers do keep buying their wigs and bundles. Don't come over here driving up the price of my crochet synthetic hair. I will keep right on enjoying my $50 protective style and my natural edges. Just like wigs were once a old lady thing, the trendy time for chochet will come. Until then, they can stay chasing trends.

The shape is also very important. I always cut my own crochet hair, whether it's a blunt cut or layers to help frame my face and to make the hair look more natural. A lot of people I know, know how to install but don't know how to cut it correctly (choppy), or they just don't cut it at all.

Love my crochet hair and totally agree with all your insights. Some styles I’ve worn I know didn’t look natural but I just liked the look. But I am also the girl who when someone compliments them on their hair I immediately say, thanks it’s crochet! 😆 I do prefer styles like boho locs that i can make look natural installing myself. But clearly I’m not trying to convince anyone it’s mine. I say do you! And enjoy however you want to wear your hair!

I used to get my crochet hair done by a professional at a salon until she retired and then took the same hair to an amateur and let me tell you the difference was so clear. The skill of the person putting in your crochet really does make or break your style because the same brand and style of hair done by a professional looked so nice and natural, but the amateur had me looking crazy and I only kept it in for 3 weeks.

Crochet is honestly my specialty. A few of the techniques I created and others took the credit lol! Yes it's about who installs. I won't wear crochet at full length. The longest I recommend is shoulder length. When it's shorter it lasts longer and I can do touch ups for my clients without having to take the entire style down. Installation techniques is everything

I JUST tried crochet hair and you’re the one who inspired me! I got so many compliments, but I ended up taking the hair out after only 3 days. Only because I learned that I personally like having access to my hair.. You can’t really access your hair if it’s braided up under crochet hair. Also, the crochet hair made me feel insecure outdoors or under lighting because it does have that synthetic hair look. I washed the hair with ACV prior to using and also sprayed it with dry shampoo and it still had that synthetic look/shine. But those are really the only cons for me. The hair was so cheap, I used the deep twist (also because of you lol!), it was SUPER lightweight, despite it being 22 inches, loved that! And of course it can last a long time. Doesn’t take too long to install either. I also couldn’t figure out that invisible knot technique, so for me the knots were definitely an issue, didn’t like the way they looked. But I don’t see why crochet hair gets so much hate. If you can master those invisible knots, your hair will look bomb! Seen it in several videos. And figure out a way to dull that shine.. Which I hear tends to fade the longer you wear the hair anyway.

I'm in my early fifties and am a teacher. One of the African ladies at my school has made so many students and parents look beautiful and saved/grown out their hair. She did my hair when I was texturizing and it grew. I was just thinking about how watching 1st beautycanbraid, Marissa the JOAT, Lia Lavon, Tupo1, Taste Pink, Seun and others has helped me grow out my natural hair the longest it's been in over 40 years! And guest what, it's only about 6 inches long. Lmbo. I'm having some plumbing issues and just braided my hair so that I could make it through the week. I bought hair fir Coi Peray Braids. I swear, I thought about how fast I could crochet that hair into these braids and not have to worry about going to my friend's house washing and crisply parting my hair for braids. Tomorrow, I'll be so very happy to see the plumber.

I love my crochet hair, I install it myself after having someone else braid it down for me. I blend it the way I like it, make it look as natural as possible, but never deny that it is crochet or feel the least bit embarrassed about it being crochet. I get MANY compliments on my hair and enjoy trying different styles. I’ve tried it all, wigs, sew-ins, etc, but I love the versatility of crochet.. and most aren’t quite sure whether it’s my hair or not. We are all different, creative people! We should celebrate our multifaceted, creative beautiful differences and looks without judgement! Besides, if not worn correctly or cared for or styled in a less than complimentary way ANY style can look bad… whether you’ve spent $800 or $80 on it! People are so quick to jump on the bandwagon in order to keep up with the “Joneses” (whether they can really afford it or not😉), but best believe, I will save my money, STILL look fabulous and keep doing me, regardless of what they say about crochet!😊

I will not post anymore! This is the truth. I'm on Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook and I see these videos and I'm like how could someone pay hundreds of dollars to have their hair flat ironed. If the hair doesn't revert it's because it's heat trained (I.E. Heat Damaged Hair)! Don't let know professional tell you differently. Bonds are broken with relaxers and heat. With heat training the bonds are broken down slower than it would with a relaxer therefore leaving the hair intact. Some women don't care because they choose to be a straight natural and most honest stylist tell the client this information. Getting a silk press here and there won't cause heat damage. But it annoys me when Heat Damaged Hair is glorified to sound like anything different. Hair that is heat trained still has more body than relaxed hair. But here's the catch! Relaxed people don't use heat often. People with heat trained hair will have touch ups when the roots puff up. I suggest that people get a straight sew in or straight wig when they want straight hair. It's a better purchase than getting it professionally flatironed

Personally, I love crochet hair! It's affordable and it's highly accessible. I think with all these hairstyles, there's a trade-off. If you pay more, yes you have more options, but now you also have more things to consider. I.E. cost for one, and maintenance for another. A sew-in is awesome but you still have to pay for the hair which is where it gets pricey. Good quality hair (for me in Texas) is around $200-800. Then the install which can be at least $200. And the maintenance which my salon would charge $65 to wash it and take care of it between installs. That's a lot of money as opposed to crochet hair which for me at the most would be around $50-$70 (depending on the style and how many packs I get) and the install is either $95 (pre-looped) or $130 (standard) which is more affordable for me. I think people hatin on should try it out before judging it because it really can save some serious money for you and keep you looking fabulous (if installed and maintained properly).

I love crochet hairdos especially the curly kinky ones because it blends in well with natural hair if you do it very small and you don't part it perfectly straight .. the knots are not that visible with curly crochet! But wearing lace wigs pulls out your edges because of the chemicals within the glue and some of the actual lace! The funny thing is some of these women and girls would rather wear other people's hair on their scalp and act like it's theirs along with wearing other people's spirits and bad luck LOL they look cute but most of the time it's obvious because you can see all the glue around there face and edges... While crochet hair is usually synthetic but it's just a protective style that is low maintenance to help your hair grow, so you can wear your natural hair and be proud of what you have when you take it out! 🙏❤️

Tbh, I like the knotted look with some styles. It's no different to me than invisible braids or microwave braids. I honestly don't see the big deal. Ms. Dorothy's knots looked really uniform in their appearance.

I am sorry but just like how people don’t like crochet, I don’t like lace. I can’t deal with the constant lace lifting, making it look like a helmet on your head. And lace is not activewear friendly like crochet is.

I think they did that on purpose for a plot for the episode because for her having so much money that doesn't make sense

Anybody else got click-baited by the thumbnail? I thought she retried an older hair, which I know she never does 🥴🥴🥴

Crochet look bad when They're done wrong like wide parts and gaps. The person wearing them wrong like it's their own hair flipped everywhere parts and braids showing. Everybody can't do crochet.

Based on your age, you're a part of the Millenial generation who were born between 1981 and 1996 (Source: Pew Research). So you're in the same generation with 35-41 year olds.

Maybe the better phrasing is age group rather generation. A majority of my audience is 35+ (especially those who purely watch me for crochet), with about majority being 40-65.
