Another great down to earth common sense tutorial on how to refurbish Craig's list find. Can't wait to see how the bike performs when it's 100 percent operational. Keep the content coming!
It's so much more work fixing other peoples mistakes or neglect than to fix something that's simply failed or that's worn out. That bike is lucky that it fell into your hands.
Love the videos, stumbled upon your channel and I've been binge watching videos every weekend, I think I'm going to run out at some point. Keep making them!
I'm not sure what you mean by the half circles. The plates need to be installed in alternating fashion (friction plate, steel plate, etc.). If you look up your bike on partzilla, they will have a diagram of how everything goes. Good luck!
A very badly treated machine, bloody shame, badly maintained as well :-(( Looks like you are/were catching up on the problems last year, enjoyable video :-))
I have a 2002 yz426 it's been the most reliable bike i have ever owned! And I've owned them all... It's been 4 years since i had any work done on it and she's been a beast but recently my valves finally took a shit but I'm getting my ol girl out of the shop tomorrow with a new top end cost me about 870 bucks but it'll be worth it!
There's also a bearing on the water pump shaft that should be replaced. Especially if the inner seal is leaking. Failure to do so may mean that it will cause premature seal failure.
they are good bikes man and they will keep up with the 450's depending on what gearing you run... i need a new carb my throttle position sensor is broke so it dont have the snap that it used too but she still a beast! took it out for a quick lil ride today still breaking in the motor.
MechRider89 not really. I'm from Louisiana and lots of people run straight water. Yes it does rust and what not. But it doesn't turn to vapor and crack heads. All 50/50 Is is to keep the rust down and keep it from freezing
Dude! When is the next episode coming? make it 60min (2parts), i'm learning alot from ur vids, will be great for me when i buy my own dirtbike, exept ima go for a 2stroke 250cc ;) Take care, and i hope u'll be making more & longer episodes ;)
You seem to know alot about bikes, are you a mechanic? or did you just learn from yourself from over time. Anyway forward to seeing it run... But In my opinion I think you should of got a 250 2 stroke, they are alot easier to work on and cheaper, plus I think they are the best all around bikes. I own a YZ85 and YZ250, I love 2 strokes... Im currently rebuilding my 250, it needs some work, just waiting for my parts to arrive. Ill subscribe :)
4 strokes for the road, 2 strokes for the dirt, makes more sense to me. Just seems like more fun that way too, or am I just a bit old fashioned?...... I might be, cos i can't stand single shock plastic bikes either :D
ok I love watching your videos but for the life of me I cant figure out why you didn't just swap the engine from the bike without a title to the bike with a title???? Sell the untitled bike with or without fixing all the issues with the engine.
Hey just a quick question! How did you end up getting it titled did you contact the original owner or not cause I might be getting a yz250f and I don't know if its titled and if it isn't I'd like to know what to do! Thanks!
my 01 yz426f clutch slipping when warmed up mainly in 3rd and 4th gear +. I tried adjusting cable and got no help. how can I tell if the plates needs to be replaced
toddlk 186 lol that's not true. I put 145 hours on my 300 before I did the top end. And the piston was still good. Just needed new compression ring. My sxf I rebuilt at 125 hours and it needed a new piston.
BEEN LOVING THESE VIDZ ON THE YZ MATE...GREAT WORK AND GOOD ANALYSIS ON WHAT YOUR DOING...IVE JUST STARTED OFF MY OWN CHANNEL RECENTLY AND IM GOING TO START DOING SOME PROJECTS ON THIER...IVE UPLOADED A FEW VIDZ OF A PITBIKE THAT IM UPGRADING...CHECK IT OUT...YOUVE GOT A SUB FROM ME BROTHER !
What ever dumbass took this bike apart DID NOT know what they were doing! Didnt you say you bought this bike for $600? Anyway, great deal and job of rescuing this bike from the jackass messing with and ruining it. I also seen it had some good aftermarket parts on it too.
cool rebuild! i subbed to follow along! Im rebuilding a 2001 YZ250F from the ground up, check out my vids if you get a chance, i already did a basket case CR85R for my wife!
By far one of the best channels on UA-cam. Down to earth with a dash of humor. Keep up the good work!
I agree totally!

I really have been enjoying this restoration project so far, you are a literal genius brother!
+Stone Riffe thanks a lot!
It's really a shame how some people neglect their machines. It's a tough motor, though!

No, it just means I can get it registered to ride on public parks, forests, etc.
I have a 1987 KX 80 it had the same problem both water pump seals were gone but I replaced them and now she runs amazing. Ride her every weekend
Great video! I just got a 426 would like to know where you got a parts diagram and where to order them if possible.
Love your vids looking forward to the next one!
BUY THIS MAN SOME WORK SHOES!
(preferably without huge holes)
Yes, there was definitely a trail of stupidity :)
Ahh the water pumps pumps bad better rebuild it had the same problem with my 99 wr400

I love your titles
Why the hell do people run straight water in their motors? It ALWAYS rusts.
Not to mention it can turn into vaper and crack cylinders. running less then 50/50 is a dumb idea
MechRider89 not really. I'm from Louisiana and lots of people run straight water. Yes it does rust and what not. But it doesn't turn to vapor and crack heads. All 50/50 Is is to keep the rust down and keep it from freezing
MechRider89... get a clue would ya!. Water turning to vapor doesn't "crack cylinders"!!.

Thanks for sharing. Did you figure out if that flat rubber washer over the o-ring belonged there?
You got a killer deal on it
subscribed. Hope to see more soon.
That was too nice a bike for who ever worked on it .. Dang.
4 strokes for the road, 2 strokes for the dirt, makes more sense to me. Just seems like more fun that way too, or am I just a bit old fashioned?...... I might be, cos i can't stand single shock plastic bikes either :D
Wow, so many bad things were done previously on this bike "rebuild".
oh man! some people really have no business working on bikes. that previous owner messed it up pretty bad!
ok I love watching your videos but for the life of me I cant figure out why you didn't just swap the engine from the bike without a title to the bike with a title???? Sell the untitled bike with or without fixing all the issues with the engine.
hmm, did you drain the oil-tank? on the frame?... hope you cut that part :P
Love your videos! very funny and informative :)

This is why you buy a 2stroke !
Goffens to have a rebuild every 40 hours? No thanks
They blow up to easy

what did you use to remove the impeller from the shaft? 12mm and crescent? pliers?
I have a question..???
Is possible to chain one wr400f to 450cc
Pretty sure im your 30,000 sub yay me!

+David Morris Thanks a lot for the sub!
Whoever owned that bike before didn't take care of it. And obviously didn't tighten the clutch to spec. Or put any antifreeze in it. Poor motor :(
So having a title on the bike means you can ride it on public roads?
just picked up an 01 yz426. things faster than my 02 crf450
sounds like a quick machine!
Do a complete rebuild
Greg Banks pay for it
How do u know so much about mechanics?
I've just liked to tinker on things since I was little, and I don't like other folks working on my stuff!
What ever dumbass took this bike apart DID NOT know what they were doing! Didnt you say you bought this bike for $600? Anyway, great deal and job of rescuing this bike from the jackass messing with and ruining it. I also seen it had some good aftermarket parts on it too.
what ever happened with the title of this bike?
Need nail clippers?
Rob Carter need a life?
Rob, did you accidentally type "mechanic" instead of "manicurist"?
change Plastics? :)
cool rebuild! i subbed to follow along! Im rebuilding a 2001 YZ250F from the ground up, check out my vids if you get a chance, i already did a basket case CR85R for my wife!
