I have been making my own leaders out of cheap mono and I also use tippett rings. I have started trying to make furled leader out of cheap mono. The procedure for making a furled leader has a bit of a learning curve. The method in your video is great and simple.
@@COAFFieldTeam I want to saw I used a single LONG strand on 10lb mono. The top end of my leader ended up 4 strands (approximately 40lbs), middle 3 strands, and end to a loop with a tippett ring of 2 strands. The madness is getting the math right for the length which includes dealing with the amount used in the twist and counter-twist. When it is all said and done the knots are nicely hidden in the twist themselves and the leader seems to have less line memory. However making them is an ordeal for me. Making the leaders with the three different thickness of mono is SO much easier.
Loop to loop connection... loop on end of fly line and perfection loop on fly leader. If no loop on end of fly line, then I attach a section of mono using a nail knot to the fly line, then form a Perfection Loop to the tag end. See details in this video, ua-cam.com/video/xWRObgj55AQ/v-deo.html
@@COAFFieldTeam it was nice. Couldn't swim much because of the jellyfish. Took a 4hr fishing trip out of Port Aransas and caught some nice Spade fish. Got the filets in the freezer :) Took the kiddo on the Pirate ship there as well. That was fun. Went to one of my favorite piers as well. Cos Way Bait and Tackle.

Thanks! I make furled leaders that twists 2lbs mono strands. It's not a true furled leader but it works well for fly fishing and tenkara.

@@micchow7381 It is easier. I mainly use the furled ones for tenkara now.
Nice info👍🔥
Thanks ✌
So how do you attach the leader to the flight line? Thanks for info!

@@lilcaesarman Awesome! Love Port A... sure do miss the Copana Bay Pier former causeway that was taken down.
if I am using a 5 weight rod and real combo, what weight leader should I be using for bass and panfish?
5x or 6x tapered leader should work. If bigger bass are lurking near. Try 3x or 4x.
@@COAFFieldTeam Could you just use like 4 LB mono?
@@sancessounds Yes. I keep 4 and 6 Mono handy. Go to 2 when trout are picky.
