Brilliant. You can feel the passion and the anger about one of the vilest times ever. There are today signs of its return. Danny Kaye should have won an oscar.
I remember watching this movie when it first aired. I have always loved Danny Kaye and did not realize that besides being a great comedian/actor/singer he was also a FANTASTIC dramatic actor! I LOVE HIM!!
I just read in a book about each of the Danny Kaye behind the scenes stories about this movie. Unknown to Danny Kaye at the time (until after the take), these extras were actual survivors.
This movie resonates especially after the events of October 7, 2023 when Hamas attacked Israel killing more than 1,200 Jews. If Danny Kaye were still alive, he would see Jerusalem as Skokie and he would show up with a club.
I had high school world and American history teachers. One was a guard at Nuremberg after WW2 and the other was present during the opening of Dachau as a interpreter soldier for the American command. He came with pictures of the gas chambers, crematoriums and prisoners. Both said we do not have to allow denial of the Holocaust when the neo-Nazis came to our school spreading their garbage propaganda. It was a fight … yes fight by Hispanic, white, black and Asian students. We got no disciplinary punishment and the Neo-Nazis … they called themselves the National White Peoples Party then and we didn’t allow them … we resisted. BUT THAT WAS DURING THE EARLY 1960s. Today, at 73 yrs old, if my great grandsons did the same thing and the school authorities tried to discipline them I would march with my American and USMC flag declaring the authorities apologize to the students for the exposure to the Nazi B.S. even if it was disguised as M.A.G.A. Political first amendment speech. Semper Fi, Mr. Danny Kaye.
It has been said that comedy is the hardest acting to do. (Or something like that.) The director Stanley Kramer was the director for a TV production which comprised several vignettes by comedic actors in famous dramatic scenes. (Possibly all scenes Kramer had directed in the original dramatic films.) The only specific one I remember was Buddy Hackett doing the scene in "The Caine Mutiny," famously done by Humphrey Bogart, in which Captain Queeg goes unhinged on the witness stand. Another of the actors was Sid Caesar, but I don't remember what scene he did.
I read once that several of the extras, and Danny Kaye did not know this at the time, were actual victims of the Holocaust! He found out after the scene was filmed and he had delivered his speech. He should have gotten the Oscar for this.
The made-for-tv movie Skokie. Based on a real event...Nazis wanted to hold a parade in a town where a large number of Jews had emigrated. Publicity stunt in the name of exercising their 1st amendment rights. They had gone to court to get permission and won. Ironically a Jewish ACLU lawyer argued their case. Ultimately didn't happen, at least not in Skokie anyway.
Sorry, but it was Trump who moved the embassy to Jerusalem symbolizing recognition of that city as the Capitol, and struck down the Iran nuclear deal. Nobody in modern times has been more pro-Israel. Now Biden has opened the door to giving Iran nukes--who will they use them on first?

Danny Kaye gave his career greatest performance in this TV film. Should have won the Emmy
Love Danny Kaye. He was such an amazing actor.
What a performance. My head is reeling.
This scene has impacted my life at least as much as any other scene in any film. So powerful.

This scene showed how good of a dramatic actor Danny Kaye. I wished he could've done drama more often than he did in his brilliant career.
Wonderful acting by Danny Kaye

History is repeating itself, 2023

Danny Kaye should have gotten an Academy Award for this performance.
It was a TV movie, it wasn't eligible anyway.
He was nominated for a Best Actor Emmy, but he lost to Mickey Rooney
@@WillScarlet16he should have anyway.
@@commanderkeen3787he was NOT Nominated for an Emmy
That is the best acting that I have ever seen in my life!

There's something about a comedian doing a dramatic film that lends more weight to it...

What's with the Amish beard?
And now we deal with Trump followers. Sad.
