@@laraerickson2926 its not sketchy. I worked there for quite a long time and the problems were super rare. Oh, man, the MOA is such a huge part of my childhood! I was about nine years old when it opened, and it was such a huge deal. It was the closest major mall to my house, so my family and friends I were there all the time. I can't believe how much things have changed (RIP Disney Store, American Girl, and the bowling alley), but I appreciate that some things are still hanging on. If they ever get rid of the Rainforest Cafe, I think there would be an uprising! I loved your tour of the Nick park! That place was in its heyday when it was Camp Snoopy. The theming was great, the rides were fun. The park never recovered its mojo after they lost the Camp Snoopy brand. It's only gotten sadder and more desperate-feeling as the years go by. I had never seen the "light show" before this video, and even I was unprepared for the "strobe lights flashing wanly for a few seconds followed by a fart of smoke" extravaganza! And somehow, it wasn't surprising XD
Native Minnesotan here! I used to love MOA, but the last time I was there (12/31/21), I was almost trampled by people running away from a shooting that happened right above me. This video has inspired me to give it another chance- I HAVE to see the iconic Addison Rae Diet Pepsi decor for myself. Thanks, Lucas!
@@a-girl-and-her-catThe comment was deliberately misleading imo. There are some repeat vendors. Ragstock, Spencers, American Eagle, Bath and body works, and claires are ones that spring to mind. There is also Nordstrom and Macy’s that take up all 3 levels acting as one large location. But the repeat stores make up maybe about 30 stores at most? Which is nothing compared to the over 300 stores at the mall
Malls originally started as a way to boost the income of downtown businesses by acting as miniature versions of city centers. The concept was simple-replicate the downtown experience in a single, convenient location, featuring smaller versions of popular businesses. At first, it worked well, providing a steady flow of foot traffic and promoting the downtown districts. However, when the economy took a downturn, sales and foot traffic in actual downtown areas started to decline. As the economy eventually improved, malls began to expand and attract more attention, pulling business away from downtown districts. Instead of helping to revitalize these areas, malls ended up overshadowing them, effectively draining customers and resources. Rather than serving as a living advertisement for the downtown experience, malls contributed to the slow demise of those very districts they were meant to support, transforming into stand-alone destinations that redefined urban shopping culture.
Today's retail landscape is shifting, but contrary to popular belief, malls themselves aren’t dying-it's traditional brick-and-mortar retail that's faltering, giving way to the rise of online shopping. Initially, small retailers bore the brunt of this shift, but many adapted by building a strong online presence or partnering with virtual marketplaces to stay afloat. Malls are now rethinking their roles and searching for the next big attraction. Many have started incorporating entertainment options like fun parks, mini golf courses, and go-kart tracks to keep foot traffic flowing. Even large retailers like Walmart are feeling the impact, as customers increasingly prefer shopping online for groceries and household items, leading to a decline in traffic to their massive stores. The future of retail is evolving, and malls are finding new ways to adapt to changing consumer preferences, blending entertainment with shopping to remain relevant in an increasingly digital world.
In my city in New Zealand the city centre is expanding with shopping streets and pedestrian areas. Even in my town they are currently building a huge development in the town centre that’s a whole outside pedestrian shopping area. So I feel like downtowns are really doing well here. Why are they doing so badly in America specifically? Because I feel like downtowns and malls are doing well in lots of countries. I hate online shopping, going to an actual store is always way better and all my friends would agree.
Im from Minnesota and have lived here all my life. If i remember correctly, Both Mall of America and the Other big Mall are owned by the same people. In the 90's the theme park was called camp Snoopy that is true is because I went there as a kid.
Yay I love your relationship with lil bro ! My little sister also has a speech impediment but over time grew to embrace it by saying it’s her own cool accent! can’t wait to bring her cool places like this when I get a little more successful. Thanks for sharing such fun loving content 🥹
I went to the Mall of America in 1999 when the amusement park was called Camp Snoopy. We visited family in the area and that was my first trip by plane. I don't hate the idea of malls becoming part experience and part shopping. Why not have the trampoline park, skating rink, ax throwing or arcade in a mall and also be able to get clothes in the same trip? This is a thing in my area and I think that's why malls are still busy here.
I went here for my sisters birthday, she passed away in march of this year. Thank you for the hilarious videos!! I remember we were in the trenches in this mall, my dad gaslighted me into thinking I wanted to eat at hooters. LMAO
Mall of America gives me so much anxiety and I really don’t think Minnesotans actually love it that much. Forgive me if I’m wrong but rainforest Café is iconic
I’ve honestly only had bad experience at Mall of America. I live in Minnesota I went there on my birthday. I strained my neck on a ride 😭 I literally had to go to the ER the next morning because I was in that much pain
I worked at rainforest cafe in 1998 as a waiter and we had to approach every table with “hi my name is …. Are you ready for a wild adventure?” lol Also, funny how you had a cheetahRita? Because it used to be called the margorilla!❤❤

You hate this mall because of one, isolated incident many years ago that had nothing to do with the mall itself but a random psychopath with the intent to kill? The mall staff couldn’t have known what this dude was thinking or planning - they aren’t mind readers.
Oh, there is plenty of tackiness at MOA. Just two years ago a teenager was killed in a fight there and in 2019 a man randomly threw a 5 year old boy over a balcony from the third floor who thankfully survived. All kinds of insanity there tbh
I was there on the opening day of MOA. I was twelve, it was 1992. It was packed with so many people that day it was hard to walk around. That mall has changed so so much over the decades. The ride area used to be called Knotts Camp Snoopy and it was like a northwoods camping theme look.
As a Minnesotan born and raised, I left at age 49 and I can tell you why Mall of America isn't decked out in American themes. It's because Minnesota is not Pro-America. Walz crushed that dream. I'm so glad I left Minnesota.
Fun fact: when the mall first opened they had for “anchor stores” on each corner that were three stories tall, which were macys, nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and sears. Because malls were so popular when moa opened, these anchor stores signed contracts that were pretty close to lifetime warranty. In the case of sears, that’s exactly what they did, and that’s why the space mentioned at 8:25 is closed. Sears has a lifetime contract, so they still own the space and no other stores can rent there. That’s also why sears still has their name on the side of moa

Since I've never been there, I appreciate your walkthriugh with your amazing personalities. I love your videos! As far as the question goes for "What is a mall?" Now that you've asked me that, and said there were waterparks and such at a mall, I don't even know anymore. I thought it was a connected unit of a variety of stores for shopping, but maybe, just maybe, the unit space is for any business for soliciting purposes, so therefore, in theory, the waterpark may just count as part of the mall.
When I was in 5th grade, we went on a field trip to Nickelodeon Universe in the Mall of America. I’m not kidding when I say every single gift shop that sold those squid hats was full of kids. You couldn’t walk into one of those stores and actually be able to walk around in it.
As an elder millennial, malls are nostalgic, malls were a hub for the community back in the 80’s-90’s. People may of had cell phones but we were not addicted like they are now, eye contact and small talk with strangers was common. As a teen it was exciting to go there with your friend group. Maybe you’d see your crush from school, get a best friends necklace from Clair’s, talk about life, go see a movie and get some popcorn. But it appears malls have become a shell of their former selves. I hope younger people have places to go and experience life together.
Ah the Mall of America. I was there in November for my stepcousins' wedding and I always remember a worker asking where my mom and i came from because we are Asian. They thought we were from some exotic country. And my mom said "Oh Canada." And they said "Oh...." We could see their disappointment. LOL 😂
The fact that there’s a hotel connected tells how popular that place used to be. It’s sad and scary how drastically things can change, but really cool to see.
Minnesotan here!! We sure love our MOA! In 8th grade, 1998, my friend Amanda and I saw the band 98° perform at MOA!! We rode the Pepsi rollercoaster after screaming out, “we love you, Nick Lachey!!!” As if he even heard us 🤣😂😂 Ghost Blasters is the best ride!! The log chute with Babe the Big Blue Ox and Paul Bunyan mascots is a must to ride!! We’re very lucky to have MOA in MN! I haven’t been there in months, but they have Dole Whip now??? That’s awesome! Also, in the 90’s early 2000’s Nickelodeon Universe was Knott’s Camp Snoopy!! SO much fun! OnionHead’s Revenge during October at MOA is a ton of fun too!!
Oh man, as a Minnesotan that grew up in St Paul, this mall was SOOO special back in the day. I had my 5th birthday party at Camp Snoopy. In high school I’d take 2 buses to go there with the $20 my dad gave me 😂 saw Ashlee Simpson perform there when she was first starting out. My first date was there, I believe we saw The Grudge 2 😂 As much as I avoid that place like the plague now, it holds MANY amazing memories. But the magic is long gone especially since the remodel and getting rid of Camp Snoopy.
The fact malls are dying in America has always really confused me because all the malls in my city in New Zealand are always packed and I absolutely love going to the mall. When I was in high school me and my friends would take the bus into the city then spend the day messing around at the mall, we could eat whatever we wanted from the food court, so fun. Being able to just park and then walk around is so much easier than driving to a bunch of different stores. I can also vouch that Japan has great malls too. There’s something about just getting lost in a huge mall and finding all these interesting stores you didn’t know existed.
americans are lazy. And the mall owners are especially so I guess. I noticed before malls were really dead, I called it as a 10 year old that the mall was gonna die because they had put WAY too many baby stores in the mall. And i was right, that mall is legit DEAD. Only the theater is open now. And its been kind of similar problem since then. Where they put stores people are not going to into, in the mall. where they have too many similar stores. Like they dont know how to look for businesses that people actually want, that is missing. For example, our mall currently, they FINALLY opened up a makeup store. It wasnt even a full sephora store, and was combined with JCPenny. But it did AMAZING. So what happens next...they open up 2 more makeup stores, and then suddenly target sells some of the same stuff (thats connected to the mall). and usually Mac brand is in Ulta stores, but they opened an ulta and then a mac store right next door...like why?? we dont need that many makeup stores! Mac obviously didnt survive and is gone now, and so is sephora. They realized there was too much competition to keep them all open, but werent smart enough to open up similar themes, but not carbon copies; like a lush or something.. And then Opened up a doggy daycare center??? Which I've only ever seen ONE dog inside. EVER. People dont even bring their dogs in the mall unless its for santa photos at xmas time. and even thats rare.. And then make the Rent too high so businesses dont want to risk trying to open in the mall. but then dont do anything with the empty stores. which seems like bad business tactics. You fill the space to make money and pay the bills Am I wrong? lol. They say its just online shopping killed malls. I'd also say bad businessman are a huge problem too. If you dont fill the mall with places people would actually want to go to, then why would they go over ordering online? It sounds like other countries where malls are still hot, they actually fill the malls with places people actually want to go to
As a lifelong Minnesotan, the MOA holds a lot of memories for me, especially when it was still Camp Snoopy instead of Nickelodeon Universe. I remember all my schoolmates and I being super bummed when that change happened.

I live in NYC, & I've been to the NJ American Dream mall multiple times. It feels like a creepy pasta liminal space. It's always desolate unless there's something going on at the stadium next door. The parking lot is a nightmare - so difficult to navigate.

It was a magical place in the ‘90s. Today, it’s more exciting going to IKEA and skipping MOA altogether. I wish I could time travel for one day and play at Starbase Omega, eat at Planet Hollywood, buy some collectibles at the Disney Store and Warner Bros. Studio Store, and then ride the Pepsi Ripsaw at night over the trees and log cabin structures of Camp Snoopy. Heck, I’d even love to visit 4 floors of Sears again!!

Like 13 years ago, my family (from Ontario, about an hour away from the border on Sarnia/Port Huron) drove across the States to Colorado and back and on our way back we stopped at Mall of America. I remember being terrified to go on the big SpongeBob roller coaster and cried until I actually was on it and then wanted to go again and again. Nooo, the aquarium is so cool because the tank goes over the top of you! Like sharks and stuff swim over you. To be fair, I haven't been there in about 20 years, but it was cool when I was a kid.
yess its cool but scary af lowkey lol
It costs like $800 now lol.
Lol Minnesotan here, born and raised. I quite enjoyed your video on the mall. I do agree, once you get there it's just "Meh"
Hey its Fred
I live in the twin cities, I miss when MOA had Camp Snoopy. I spent too much time there as a kid.
@Anastasia-ahhh Oh I kiss Camp Snoopy too! I believe the Rollercoaster still has part of the old amusement park still inside of their tunnel.
You don’t sound very Minnesotan
I was really hoping that you guys would run into the Queen Spinner of Shell Shock while you were there! She is truly an icon
You and Jacob are helping me recover from my colonoscopy. I’m wacked out on Fentanyl and your channels are just what me and my sore bum need.
@likethepear 🧑⚕️ I'm asking with peace and love but why did they give you FENT for a colonoscopy!? I've had many and never gotten THAT! 😬
Why the heck did they give you that???
I hope you recover well though. I just had one and the prep was brutal
@@neverlandnightslol they use fentanyl all the time on hundreds of ppl a day it's a pain medication. It's not like how it is on the streets
@@FlintGirl810 I am assuming for pain relief/mild sedative. Fentanyl can also be an option for childbirth. You probably you received a different sedative for yours. I think fentanyl is supposed to be safe and foster quicker recoveries.
Fun fact, cocaine is also an anesthetic!
Yikes they put a scope in your ass😭😭
You forgot about Twiggy the skiing squirrel graced that stage. Show respect. 🐿️
Minnesotans in the chat being like “yeah that’s the mall”
I’m from Minnesota this mall gets old after a while but love the food options
same it's literally just a mall
I feel the same way (also from Minnesota)
It was and always will be Camp Snoopy
Yeah, lots of stores but kinda weak selection, never really find anything I want to buy tbh
Hate going to MoA
Jacob’s little cry after leaving the mall at the end made the whole video worth it for me. He’s so funny 🤣
I’ve been exclusively watching Lucas and Jacob on UA-cam for the past month lol
Me too😭
me too and it the most random thing i’ve started watching but i genuinely enjoy watching them lol
that's so real of you
Once you realize the Mall of America is essentially just the same mall twice, it's kinda lame haha
For real! It has the exact same brands on all 4 levels!
omg that is lame AF. @@4forevergirl4
Yep there’s a good amount of duplicate stores and vendors. Never really understood why
Oh, weird! Are there different items in different stores, or different departments of the same brand at least?
This is fascinating stuff bro
It was better when it was Camp Snoopy

Jacob thinking Vanessa Hudgens founded Victoria's Secret is the most hilarious, out-of-pocket thing 😂
There are a lot of arcade and arcade-like attractions on the upper floors, they also have a small ice rink during the winter (where the star is).
as a minnesotan i was so excited to watch this lol
I went here for my sisters birthday, she passed away in march of this year. Thank you for the hilarious videos!! I remember we were in the trenches in this mall, my dad gaslighted me into thinking I wanted to eat at hooters. LMAO
Sorry for your loss.
Gaslighting you into hooters is a dad cannon event 😭😭
Mall of America gives me so much anxiety and I really don’t think Minnesotans actually love it that much. Forgive me if I’m wrong but rainforest Café is iconic
I’ve honestly only had bad experience at Mall of America. I live in Minnesota I went there on my birthday. I strained my neck on a ride 😭 I literally had to go to the ER the next morning because I was in that much pain

It's the only mall that can retain iconic landmarks.like rainforest and incorporate new stuff all the time. I can't wait to try rock climbing.

at mexican parties, when a child starts to get sleepy, parents push together chairs to create a bed so they don't have to leave and can party for the rest of the night so that restaurant did their research because that's an authentic mexican experience
12:47 a child was thrown off this same balcony back in 2017/2018 I remember I was working in forever 21 at the time where he landed in front of. Thankfully he lived and only had a few injuries. I hate this mall

@@shannonceleste5557a man went into the mall that day with the intent on ending someone’s life. Sick. I hate this mall too
@@swansonseven2851 he also threw the child over after he was rejected by a female he had asked out.
Men rlly hate rejection so much, it’s a classified branch of murder called rejection killings sadly….
You hate this mall because of one, isolated incident many years ago that had nothing to do with the mall itself but a random psychopath with the intent to kill? The mall staff couldn’t have known what this dude was thinking or planning - they aren’t mind readers.
As a Florida person, I think this mall lacks tackiness, is not giving America.
Jacob’s solitary scream echoing in the mall while riding the roller coaster by himself 😂
i died 😂
As a Minnesotan born and raised, I left at age 49 and I can tell you why Mall of America isn't decked out in American themes. It's because Minnesota is not Pro-America. Walz crushed that dream. I'm so glad I left Minnesota.
We are also glad you left.

"I think ppl just move on" 😂😂😂 sick burn! Lol
A mall is a place where easily accessible theft happens and the authority figures there can only politely ask you to stay while cops come.
It sounds like other countries where malls are still hot, they actually fill the malls with places people actually want to go to
I don’t think people in New Zealand get shot in malls as often as Americans do is probably part of it.

I went back to MoA last year with my husband, and it was a very different experience. Not in a bad way, just… different. We (also) went to Margaritaville and then Rainforest Cafe right before our flight back home (the mall is crazy close to the airport).
