I just wonder what is different there than in the Southeastern US, where 3 to 5 inches of rain, or more, in a day in a summer storm is not unheard of, not to mention what the south gets in a hurricane, 40+ inches. Because it is so rare? Because of the toporgraphy? I am not braging about the US I am just trying to get my head around the situation. I live where Hurricane Floyd hit so I have seen floods. Maybe some FEMA people could help advise the governments on planning what might help. (not that I expect much from them quickly but they have some experience) The US media has not seemed to cover the European news very much. German authorities had very accurate weatherforcasts, but they didn't informed their population, so they could prepare for possible floods (especially towns & cities that are near rivers & lakes). Anyway, my sincered condolences to the people who lost their friends and family members.

Similar sentiments from Australia. Following the serious fires 2 years in a row we've also had some flooding, but our recent floods are not close in destruction to this.

What jumps out at me is the hunger for quality, genuine leadership. “Does someone care?” “What’s the motivation of the visit?” You can sense the lack of trust and confidence in the system. As a german I am a huge fan of Andrew Yang in the US. He seems to be a politician who is really open minded about the real problems and actually gives solutions that tackle the root of the problems and not just the symptoms. Sadly there is no politician in Germany I am hyped about haha. :(
If I think about our elections in Germany this September I feel nothing but dread. There is not a single leading politician across all parties that I trust or who I think has good leadership skills. It's disheartening. I wanna vote, but every vote feels pointless. A leader I really like is Jacinda Ardern in New Zealand. She isn't perfect, but she's far better than most and she seems much more authentic than others.

They can deal with it the leaders have no expertise in rescueing they are not a real help anyway it is just for the photo. The rebuilding in Germany is not the problem we have the money and the infrastructure to deal with it but the damage is done. Human lifes are dead and the immaterial damage of losing your house and everything you own can not be measured in numbers anyway. So we should discuss how we stop stuff like that from happening more frequently. And that means we have to really tackle climate change as a global community. Heavy rain events like these increased from 18% to 43% in the last 35 years in europe because of the increasing overall temperatures. Warm air can contain more water. And we are probably still pretty lucky in europe compared to other regions around the globe.

You know Bangladesh is the biggest delta in the world. In the monsoon due to heavy rain huge streams of water come from the Himalayas, India, and China. This causes huge sudden floods near river areas almost every year. We know what people go through because of this kind of catastrophe. Many lose their dears, their homes, etc. Hope your country recover sooner from this. My prayers are with you guys.

My thoughts are with all those affected by the floods in Europe, particularly in Germany. Before my retirement some years ago, I used to work at Emergency Services Queensland in Disaster Management. I've worked through many a natural disaster; hence, I can image what you're going through. It will get better - one day. Sending you love.
Maybe they can request real help from other nations that has people trained to handle these situations...like FEMA. The clean-up could go faster. Then normal life can resume sooner. The military has trained people, but they are not as effective as those trained in disaster recovery.
This incident shows how politics is just show. It could have been the case that he dosn't care about people or that someone in the crowd made a funny joke at the wrong time, but it all comes down to optics in the end

@@cecegiles4583 Well yes, but they don't come and knock on the doors during the night xD There were warnings but people expected a normal flood where there's a little water on the street at most. But instead their houses were flooded above the first floor and were swept away, which doesn't happen during the floods they are used to. The predictions weren't actually too far off and if people would have been awake maybe more would have had seen the immidiate warnings or even the flooded streets right before their homes were under water, so that they would have been able to evacuate...

Die Polizei riegelt alles ab und sagt das Helfer nicht gebraucht werden. Freunde von uns sind vor Ort um dort zu helfen. Sie haben eine Turnhalle geräumt und die Polizei hielt sie ab diese Arbeiten weiter zu führen. Nach langer Diskussion haben sie es aber doch geschafft. Die Politiker kommen nur hierher um sich für ihren Wahlkampf schön darzustellen. Ein Politiker Armin Laschet bekam von vielen Seiten Kritik, weil er im Video zu sehen war, als der Bundespräsident eine Rede hielt und die Opfer der Flutwelle bedauerte, im Hintergrund sich mit ein paar anderen amüsierte. Es kommen von seitens der Regierung 300 Millionen Euro als Hilfspaket. Die Deutschen sind sauer, denn die letzten Jahre wurden immer wieder Milliarden ins Ausland, aber auch für die Flüchtlingspolitik gestellt, nur für die eigene Bevölkerung gibt es nur einen Tropfen auf dem heißen Stein.
The comments and complaints regarding the devastation are scary to me. I was a hurricane Katrina survivor in 2005 and we experienced identical situations. This is not just a U.S. or German problem. The governments of the world need to make recoveries from disasters such as this their top priority. We are seeing disasters such as these playing out more and more often.

The message was quite a bit more nuanced than this. Service people only have so many hands, and helping those in immediate danger should have priority.
That's not what it was about. There are still people in immediate dangers, those have priority for a rescue service, which was frankly quite overwhelmed the last days. There are neigbors and local organisations which can and will help out with the clean up.

@Slavic Melody The people were never lost. Just anybody in the world was trying to get in contact and gave a search request. Most often only the phone was broke .. so contact was lost. It's not so spectacular. The haven't found people under debrie. They found them sitting in their garden or sleeping at their friends place. It's just not everyone knows where everyone is.
I wish the report would have included the weather situation (where the rain storm was located), the weather system ... and, the rivers involved. I have been checking the maps and can make assumptions, but a more specific geographic report would seem to have been important.

They still have not found all the bodies, because they were washed out to sea).

It wasn't totally unexpected. German authorities had very accurate weatherforcasts, but they didn't informed their population, so they could prepare for possible floods (especially towns & cities that are near rivers & lakes).
Anyway, my sincered condolences to the people who lost their friends and family members.

What jumps out at me is the hunger for quality, genuine leadership. “Does someone care?” “What’s the motivation of the visit?” You can sense the lack of trust and confidence in the system. Something that is felt all around the world. Where are those leaders who aren’t self serving? Who has an encouraging word or words of comfort, Who shows up with rolled sleeves, a bucket and a broom a helps with the clean up? Not just for attention or a photo op, but with a heart of service. As a german I am a huge fan of Andrew Yang in the US. He seems to be a politician who is really open minded about the real problems and actually gives solutions that tackle the root of the problems and not just the symptoms.
Sadly there is no politician in Germany I am hyped about haha. :(
If I think about our elections in Germany this September I feel nothing but dread. There is not a single leading politician across all parties that I trust or who I think has good leadership skills. It's disheartening. I wanna vote, but every vote feels pointless.
A leader I really like is Jacinda Ardern in New Zealand. She isn't perfect, but she's far better than most and she seems much more authentic than others.
So that women and all of you would like for leaders from the area to take a shovel and help with cleaning,not do their job and organize everything! Very interesting.
@@Sunturlic I don't care about if my political leaders grab a shovel or not. We have a great infrastructure in germany and great rescue teams. They can deal with it the leaders have no expertise in rescueing they are not a real help anyway it is just for the photo.
The rebuilding in Germany is not the problem we have the money and the infrastructure to deal with it but the damage is done. Human lifes are dead and the immaterial damage of losing your house and everything you own can not be measured in numbers anyway.
So we should discuss how we stop stuff like that from happening more frequently. And that means we have to really tackle climate change as a global community.
Heavy rain events like these increased from 18% to 43% in the last 35 years in europe because of the increasing overall temperatures. Warm air can contain more water.
And we are probably still pretty lucky in europe compared to other regions around the globe.
Leaders are clueless.

You know Bangladesh is the biggest delta in the world. In the monsoon due to heavy rain huge streams of water come from the Himalayas, India, and China. This causes huge sudden floods near river areas almost every year. We know what people go through because of this kind of catastrophe. Many lose their dears, their homes, etc.

I mean their job revolves around helping people… as long they are doing their job I don’t care for their actual reasons
Maybe they can request real help from other nations that has people trained to handle these situations...like FEMA. The clean-up could go faster. Then normal life can resume sooner. The military has trained people, but they are not as effective as those trained in disaster recovery.
This incident shows how politics is just show. It could have been the case that he dosn't care about people or that someone in the crowd made a funny joke at the wrong time, but it all comes down to optics in the end

There were warnings but people expected a normal flood where there's a little water on the street at most. But instead their houses were flooded above the first floor and were swept away, which doesn't happen during the floods they are used to.
The predictions weren't actually too far off and if people would have been awake maybe more would have had seen the immidiate warnings or even the flooded streets right before their homes were under water, so that they would have been able to evacuate...

Vielen Dank für die lieben Worte von Euch! In den Medien wird leider nicht alles gezeigt. Freiwillige Helfer kommen zum Teil nicht in das Krisengebiet. Die Polizei riegelt alles ab und sagt das Helfer nicht gebraucht werden. Freunde von uns sind vor Ort um dort zu helfen. Sie haben eine Turnhalle geräumt und die Polizei hielt sie ab diese Arbeiten weiter zu führen. Nach langer Diskussion haben sie es aber doch geschafft. Die Politiker kommen nur hierher um sich für ihren Wahlkampf schön darzustellen. Ein Politiker Armin Laschet bekam von vielen Seiten Kritik, weil er im Video zu sehen war, als der Bundespräsident eine Rede hielt und die Opfer der Flutwelle bedauerte, im Hintergrund sich mit ein paar anderen amüsierte. Es kommen von seitens der Regierung 300 Millionen Euro als Hilfspaket. Die Deutschen sind sauer, denn die letzten Jahre wurden immer wieder Milliarden ins Ausland, aber auch für die Flüchtlingspolitik gestellt, nur für die eigene Bevölkerung gibt es nur einen Tropfen auf dem heißen Stein.

The comments and complaints regarding the devastation are scary to me. I was a hurricane Katrina survivor in 2005 and we experienced identical situations. This is not just a U.S. or German problem. The governments of the world need to make recoveries from disasters such as this their top priority. We are seeing disasters such as these playing out more and more often.

im in philippine, and i can confirm you, we get flood once a year. maybe not like the tsunami, but my point is heavy rains that make water raise up to 5 meters in some places, and for sure leave a lot of damage every year.

"You'll have to manage on your own"--neoliberalism shows its true colors, yet again, after major resources have been funneled up to the 0.01%.
That's not what it was about. There are still people in immediate dangers, those have priority for a rescue service, which was frankly quite overwhelmed the last days. There are neigbors and local organisations which can and will help out with the clean up.
Any time there is a mass casualty situation, people have to manage on their own. Most systems are not prepared to handle large scale crises
If there’s any people that can recover from disaster it’s the Germans. A hardworking and efficient people.

They located 700 missing people. They are okay. They haven't located everyone yet.
@Slavic Melody The people were never lost. Just anybody in the world was trying to get in contact and gave a search request. Most often only the phone was broke .. so contact was lost. It's not so spectacular. The haven't found people under debrie. They found them sitting in their garden or sleeping at their friends place. It's just not everyone knows where everyone is.
Crazy that no official has come up to speak to this people to give them that little hope of concern 🤦🏾♂️
I wish the report would have included the weather situation (where the rain storm was located), the weather system ... and, the rivers involved. I have been checking the maps and can make assumptions, but a more specific geographic report would seem to have been important.

What a terrible situation. Indeed, we had a terrible fire and flood 3-years ago in Santa Barbara and 100 people were killed (and two good friends were killed ... They still have not found all the bodies, because they were washed out to sea).
