This is obviously one of the first 2204 JMP's...with late '60s/early '70s cab, toggle switches, etc. This being the first version of this amp, I have the last version...a 1981 JMP 2204, before Marshall changed to the JCM800 series. To my knowledge is still the same exact amp. Every killer Marshall tone you've ever heard is in this amp...Hendrix,Page, Gibbons and everything in-between...they're all here!. Strats, Teles, Les Pauls ALL sound incredible! Nice demo of an awesome amp! Great chops!
Those amps are special. I played one in the late 90's and I've been chasing that sound ever since. I wish I could have got that amp, I'd still have it.
Gol, DANG, dude! Great playing! Amp sounds great, no doubt, but one thinks your playing would make many amps sound better than most other players. Dude... you shred some serious stuff here. Very nice. Most appreciated.
thanks man, i really appreciate the compliment and am truly greatful that there are people out there who enjoy it. the amp is completely unmodded and as for the difference between the rocker switches and togglers, i don't believe there are any internal differences, but like you said, the big box small logo heads with the toggle switches just seem to have more vibe. regretfully, i had to sell the amp afew months ago to pay off a 73 superbass i bought. it was worth it though, that superbass killz.
I dig this! Your playing is great. I just got a 2204 from 1979. Cosmetics are a little different in the front. Larger logo, larger plastic powerswitch that lights up red. Power tubes are red-plating so I need to get it biased, which will hopefully solve the issue... and new tubes. I look forward to cranking it once it's all set properly. Your video makes me more anxious for this. Nicely played.
@Prestostark yeah, alot of what you do with your hands, whether it's how you hit the strings, how you fret the note, your vibrato, all of this has a great deal to do with whatever you hear coming out of the speakers. having good gear, to me, is more about making it easier to sound like me. but no matter what you play through, you will, in the end, sound like you and that is a good thing.
Man...u are so good it's sick! Amazing demo and so good to see a strat demoing these great amps and not a LP. Have you had this modded in any way as the early 2204s I hear are different to the JMP rocker switch ones? A 2204 in the older style cabinet is just too cool. And once, again....amazing playing.
Dude - you rip! Killer demo - love the riff starting at about 2:50. Just fantastic. You need to post a demo of your Superbass. I can't imagine something sounding a lot better than this. What speakers were you using for this demo? Thanks and rock on!
That tone is perfection. And your chops are world-class. Amp demos this good are few and far between. I would like to be able to hear your speaking a little better though. BTW, does this have a master volume?
@charles1967 you know, it's funny because marshall are known for their gain and crunch but i find their clean sound to be the most appealing. i'm talking vintage marshall though, i'm not too familiar with much of their stuff from the last 20 years or so.
Great playing! Best demo of the JMP with a strat that I could find! Been looking for something like this. That tone is perfect, you could play any style with that amp and that guitar. I know it's been two years but can you remember what your EQ settings were? Any special mods to the strat, like a tone pot for the bridge pickup? The high end is perfect.
@Prestostark man, thanks for the kind words. the speakers were the standard 75 watt celestions, not the best but not the worst. the superbass is just a big bad ass monster. will try to post a vid with it soon but to get the full effect, you've got to be in it's preasence. the punch and sheer physicality of it is almost scary.
Thanks all. This is actually my friend Jared Daigle - I posted this on his behalf..he's responded to some of these comments as me in the past as I can't transfer these videos to a different account. I pass these comments on and he's quite grateful. Check out his new band, The Gillis Silo to see him in action! Their new music video has just premiered. www.cmt.com/artists/the-gillis-silo/
Brother, You are Bad To The Bone! Inspiring and Amazing! What kind of speakers are you playing through? Does your amp have a Master Volume, or do you use an attenuator playing through it? My favorite speakers to play through, when playing a Plexi or Modded Plexi Amp,are Celestion UK Made 25 Watt Greenbacks..Great for Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Hair Metal. My favorite 4x12 speaker combination are 2 Celestion UK Made 25 Watt Greenbacks on the Top, and 2 Celestion 25 watt UK Made Vintage 30's, on the Bottom. Amazing Tonal Combination.
Great amp.... My first 50w head was a JMP 2204, I've missed it since I sold it to Ricky Medlock of Black foot/ Skynyard. I just recently got a Ceriatone 2204 and installed mallory mustard caps to get the sound again.... Great playing btw, who are your influences on those leads... thanks... Guy
@langmurf thanks man, i'm really grateful for the encouragement. i gotta admit though, it's hard for me to accept compliments sometimes because i hear myself play all the time and it doesn't sound so special to me. i find myself saying "man, why did i do that or this lick sounds so generic to me" lol!!! i guess that's a good thing though, keeps me trying to figure out more.
Burning Kane - you sound awesome - please share what kind of Strat you have and what kind of pickups you use - As for the amp, what power tubes are you using? Many Thanks - and keep up the incredible playing
@BURNINKANE I'll be waitin', man! I've been on a tone quest for the last few years, and it's making me deaf and crazy. Finding some great sounds, though. But I think in the end, it's really the player. Pretty sure you could make a Fender Champ sound like the best amp ever. Keep it up, hope to hear that Superbass soon.
I love it! But I had to laugh a little bit when I saw you jamming on the The non cascaded JMP in front of the fireplace! If there was a little old lady on the couch it would like like a 70's album cover...you kind look like frank zappa from here too. Those things sound great - they just have to be played loud : ) and looking at the thing, how could anyone miss the concept that that's what they were for...industrial equiptment from the days when there was still a music industry.
Lang Murphy's right. You're among the guys that know how to make a guitar and an amp sound (but the thing sounds good by itself also). Are you self taught? Thanks for the post.
This is even cooler because your living room is also from 1976.
unabonger777 This wins the internet
Quinton Viskup It's like walking into a time capsule... I'm still waiting for the unboxing video!
True! I was searching for this today...couldnt find it used vintage demo for search words! Lol
2 years later ...and your comment is still awesome. hahahahahaha.
The unboxing of the living room time capsule. dude ....

FANTASTIC chops man. Awesome blend of musical styles
Killer tone and playing.
You truly deserve to own that amp. Great sounds!
Dude, you have any idea how straight up good you play?
holy smokes!!!! GREAT amp sounds and GREAT playing!! Jaw dropping licks!!
Sweet sweet tonal goodness. Love it. This is testament to the PURITY of TONE in a single channel vintage Marshall. Your playing doesn't hurt either!
fantastic playing! , really like the combination of that amp with the bright tone of a stratocaster. Grtz from the Netherlands
Great gear and great chops. No BS here. Great Job!
Great playing and beautiful tone.
Great demo, great guitarist and sound, I’m looking at buying one.

Amazing tone and superb playing my friend
Amazing! I really wish he was just facing our way a bit more so I could learn some of those tasty riffs!
Legend says he hasn't heard a damn thing out of his right ear since!
Great demo! just picked one up today but a 1975. BTW Awesome playing Dude!!

I got one too and it´s a great amp.
Your playing is top notch, damn slick :)
love your style, bud!.. And that's what Marshall supposed to sound... the grarly growl, not over saturated distortion.
Great playing, man.
Amp and playing are great!
Man, you rock! GREAT playing!

Very Very good play!!!
Great demo, what kind of tubes are in it?

Is it point-to-point inside?
@langmurf thanks man, i'm really grateful for the encouragement. i gotta admit though, it's hard for me to accept compliments sometimes because i hear myself play all the time and it doesn't sound so special to me. i find myself saying "man, why did i do that or this lick sounds so generic to me" lol!!! i guess that's a good thing though, keeps me trying to figure out more.
Why do they even invent new amps? The SOUND is right here! Great playing too btw!
Awesome sounding gear dude. What's the difference betwen this and the 1987 plexi?
Awesome! Holy shit!
Burning Kane - you sound awesome - please share what kind of Strat you have and what kind of pickups you use -
As for the amp, what power tubes are you using?
Many Thanks - and keep up the incredible playing

Great playing man! Do you remember, at 1:50-ish, what the preamp and master volumes where at? Cheers Jonas
that is the early sound of Iron Maiden..??? (BEfore JCM 800)
dude... you are awesome!
I love it! But I had to laugh a little bit when I saw you jamming on the The non cascaded JMP in front of the fireplace! dude, if you don't play guitar for a living in some way i suggest you quit your job and start! great playing, great sound! made my day.
Hi, Very nice tone! What type of stratocaster do you have? Pickups?
man this amp rocks !!! cant' imagine with an SG plugged in !
Ever heard of Angus Young? AC/DC? This is the exact amp model along with an SG that made that tone.
@@voxpathfinder15r Actually...I'm almost positive that Angus originally used a JTM50.
Great job bro:) did you use any pedal????
What about EQ? Tubes?bSpeakers model? Strat year?
Thx, Mike
Sweet Lord!
Great tone and playing. What an amp! What are this guitar's PUs?
KIller chops bro!
@drino5150 it is a master volume.
Who are you?
Love your style!
Fantastic!
Lang Murphy's right.
You're among the guys that know how to make a guitar and an amp sound (but the thing sounds good by itself also).
Are you self taught?
Thanks for the post.
is this one the 6550 version or el34?
Sick!!!
after this video, I am gonna get one of those!!!!
can he play you bet and that 50 sounds great
hi was that 2204 with the cascaded preamp or the non cascaded "one wire mod" preamp?
thanks man
The 2204 model designation indicates a cascaded preamp. Also, it's a 2-holer, not a 4-holer, which is another indication of a cascaded preamp.
I know this is about 10 years too late but does anybody know what the settings on the amp are?
Is that a 50s strat you're using?
NICE
What tubes ?
Does this have a master volume?
