I really love your perspective on the whole thing. I get miffed when content creators declare the game as dead when really the absolutely wild pandemic hype early release had is gone. Like you said, that whole era was so unique and exploratory that now, no one can really capture the same magic. But that's fine, because more people will be getting the game this holiday season, and they can have their own magic with a more developed community/resources. I'm still having fun!
What keeps me going is the challenge. I restarted last month & I’m doing a No Terraforming challenge 😅
I still find a lot of joy in this game, especially when I find two villagers having a conversation and can join in, or one chasing a butterfly, or looking quizzically at a bug. It's the little things that keep this game magical for me. I don't think I'll ever be bored of wandering around catching stars on a clear night, or seeing the Northern Lights or a full moon. The sheer beauty of this game gets me every time, and I think it's more about the fun of doing things than finishing it. It's like life, it's about the journey, not the destination.
I’m on the last parts of my current island, my catalogue is so full that I might not totally restart just yet but theme change is very close. I love seeing these videos, they respark my joy to play
i fully agree that my excitement went way down after the first two years. you just cant get the same feeling back of experiencing things for the first time with everyone else. the directs with update and dlc news were the highlights of that time too me. experiencing the new stuff right when it came out.
i restarted for the third time ever, and i am sticking to barely any terriforming as it is, as you said, too much. its kind of hard, since i get suckered into wanting my island to be pretty, but i was never happy with my last two islands. im still trying to find what would make me happy.
I love a good Ryan ramble! It's definitely different playing now than when it first came out, though still really fun! Also I feel like it's almost less pressure now than it was back then (at least in terms of "island perfection"). ✨
I love that you keep this game alive!! I restarted my island a year ago it’s still very unfinished but It’s fun to go back to and brings the hype back in starting fresh and being able to redecorate and terraform now that I know what I want to do with my island.
I am one of the few who has never time travelled and I think it has something to do with me still very much enjoying this game. I have absolutely nothing agains TT, this game can be played however people see fit, but I do believe it erodes the excitement of the game faster. Maybe not for everyone of course, but for a lot of people. I restarted my island because I had entirely flattened it and the barren canvas was just too daunting for me and also because my daughter was the island rep and she didn’t play the game anymore so it was a hassle when I wanted to move buildings or build/remove bridges/inclines. Restarting for me did reignite the love I have for this game. 10/10 would recommend.
Restarting makes it so much more fun again for me! Maybe not like release day, but it’s way better. I know all the items and tips etc, but I reset to make new themes and planning them out gets me excited all over again
Rushing to get to three stars is what kills the joy for me. I restart 3-4 times a year because I love the beginning of the game so much. I like to take my time, like I did when I first got the game and do all the little daily tasks like collecting materials, hunting bugs ,fishing, talking to villagers, etc. I just play it like I don't know everything I know and that keeps it fun for me. I make up little stories about the villagers and their relationships with each other. I don't bother with an island theme or a "core". I've played every day since I got it in the summer of 2020 and I'll probably play every day until my switch wears out. I think this game, like so many others, is truly what you bring to it and what you make of it.
I’ve never tired of watching whatever you post…if you start over twenty times, I’m pretty sure most of us will still be watching😂

Having a great time watching you play from the beginning again! Personally I’ve just been playing here and there especially redecorating for holidays is where I still find a lot of joy in this game. And every now and then I redo a small section with a new idea but mostly when I’m playing now it’s to just kinda do daily stuff and clear my mind. That’s kinda how I’ve always played animal crossing over the years. Every now and again we will get a craving to play for a short while until something else new comes out to obsess over. The great part about animal crossing is there’s always stuff to do whenever you come back to it
It's people like this guy who are going to be the spark that keeps relighting the fire that is New Horizons every time it starts to go out. The only thing that caused people to stop playing it as far as I know is Nintendo stopping with the updates after two years. New Horizons is actually an incredibly good game and it had so much potential; sure, it didn't get everything right it added a lot of things to the franchise that weren't in previous titles. I'm sure Nintendo will come back with a new update in the future, and hopefully fix some of the things we didn't like about it in its current form (like the limited viliager dialogue or the bland hourly music) or bring back some of the things that didn't return from earlier games (maybe even some of the cut villagers whom I sourly miss).

I’m late in starting acnh. I’ve only been playing for a little over a year. It is sad that they won’t do any more updates for it. It is still a very much loved game for a lot of people. When I start getting bored I will restart my island. I restarted about the time you did this island. I love restarting and working on a new island.
My desire to play this game comes in waves. I used to play heavily to the point I became a bell-ionare and have 200,000+ nook miles. I feel like my island still has so much potential. So now it’s just taking the time to get my island to a place where it’s 5 stars in my mind.
Got home from work and had a brand-new video waiting. Great way to end the week. Loving the new ACNH content!
I have really missed your acnh videos! It is so nice to have your videos playing while I play my game. I don't think I'll ever restart unless I get a new switch. I'm too in fear of not having bells or materials lol. My ex-husband just restarted & we are still friends & enjoy playing acnh together so I've been helping him with things he wamts/needs.

I didn't do too much terra-forming on my island. Maybe if/when I start a new island I will try making a better design. I still like my island, it's cute even if it isn't anything special. New Horizans is my first AC game and it has me excited to play the older ones, New Leaf will be the next one I try!

I keep trying other games, looking for a new obsession, but so far they're all a bust. My Time At Portia is dreadful on the Switch, for instance, and the tasks were just too hard. At the end, I just couldn't be bothered. You have to gather the materials for a machine, make the machine, gather more materials, make another machine, and by the time I'd done all that I'd missed the deadline for the task.
I still get a lot of pleasure out of Animal Crossing. The villager dialogue was increased a lot with the last update, for instance. It's the game it was always meant to be. I get real pleasure from turning a wasteland into a community. I usually do towns and cities, but this time I'm going natural and it's a real challenge! I love it when the first lily of the valley pops up, and I love making things nice. When I'm happy, I restart. I do enjoy the beginning of the game, but I get to 3 stars fast because that's when the fun starts, and you get Brewster, and Kappn and the rest. I do enjoy remodelling villager homes, too, once I've done a speed run through HHP. But this time HHP is going to become an NPC island.

While I'm still playing the game daily, my excitement for it has went down a bit. I hit a decorating brick wall and I'm not sure where to go from there. I guess just collect tickets in hopes that Toby asks to leave.
Great video Ryan, you have such a soothing voice. I'd love it if you did some streams on UA-cam as my laptop hates twitch now. Really looking forward to seeing how Acorn develops. I flattened my island a couple of months ago and I'm really struggling with it atm, just can't seem to get the terraforming or waterscaping right and it's doing my nut in! hahaha

I have just restarted my island and it’s so fun again! This time I have set my own „hard mode“, in which I don’t time travel ever and don’t cheat for million bells which was possible at the beginning of ACNH. Or I will not go on to Nookazn and get the stuff I want easily, I have to earn it myself this time. I have never played Animal Crossing the way it was intended to be played. Back in Wild World etc. I would always clone crones and stuff to get a million bells but this time, I won’t do any of that. Or for the turnip market, I would go on to Nookazn and look who has a good turnip selling price, this time, I will wait on my own island to gamble the turnip market. It’s so much more fun to play this way! 🤍✨
