The first time I watched this with my girlfriend, it was in a pitch black room. I looked over at her, and all she did was look back at me, and I jumped. The movie had me on edge.
Annie said her brother said that their mother was trying to put someone inside him, so he killed himself. They thought he was schizophrenic but in reality their mother was trying to put Paimon into him, but because he killed himself before she succeeded they needed another male body.
The movie is so harrowing and unsettling. For me, it's Toni Collettes performance that makes the movie. She takes us inside Annie's breakdown in flesh and spirit and shatters what's left of our nerves. The movie was an amazing watch, and I completely enjoyed your reaction.

Awesome reaction. I saw Hereditary for the first time last October. I’m a huge horror fan and normally I can watch a horror film and just go to bed an hour later or so. I can watch all the old classics on repeat. However this movie is the first movie that made me sleep with the lights on. My jaw was on the ground for a couple mins straight after the car scene. Not one I can just shake off like most horror films. One of the scariest movies of all time but it’s such a masterpiece!
The funny thing is Marian has the perfect voice for a spooky character. MWA-HA-HA-HA-HA. I also have a deep voice that comes in handy during Halloween.

What if the sleepwalking was Annie’s subconscious way of fighting her mother and the ritual? She tried to set Peter and Charlie on fire once before, but snapped out of it, right? And then in the dream we see where she admits she wanted to abort Peter but her mom wouldn’t allow it - and so she tried to force a miscarriage - she screams at him, “I wasn’t trying to kill you! I was trying to protect you!” Somewhere in Annie’s subconscious, she must have known her children were in danger, and just as her brother had to kill himself to escape Ellen’s clutches when he was a teenager, Annie must have known deep down that as long as the kids were alive they were existentially threatened.

Great reaction to a brilliant tension horror. When was the last time a horror film made you nearly jump out of your seat with a mere tongue click? A bit of geekdom regarding the lore behind this. They lore regarding King Paimon is almost all spot on! there are only a couple of diversions from the historic lore. 1. King Paimon is actually 1 of 9 Kings in Hell, not 8. The number 8 was chosen so it could be matched up to a direction of the compass & add a bit of extra depth to the story. 2. The beheading thing has nothing what so ever to do with the lore of King Paimon. The reason it was used in the film is because of the artworks we have of King Paimon on his camel. There are 3 heads hanging from his belt in the artwork. So that was used so it could add a bit of gore to a couple of scenes to heighten the tension. 3. Tony Collette's floating body is well within Paimons abilities. His lore says he is able to bend & break the rules of physics. So floating would be kind of easy. I hope this adds a bit of extra shiver to the film. Hope everyone is having an amazing week & much love to all from here in the UK

The mom sawed her own body! The grandma wanted to kill charlie when she was born, that's why Charlie said, grandma wanted her to be a boy. So three women in the family had to be, beheaded. And when u talked about Solomon, I believe if I remember right, the Holy Spirit came and filled the temple, so Solomon couldn't have used Demon spirits. Another problem here is, when the ma did the seance, she didn't end it! And I don't think that other woman told her how to end it, on purpose! Pro tips...the hereditary wasn't mental illness, it was ma, and grandma and someone is a stepma, maybe a great grandma, cult worship! The first class scene is a repeat of the original Halloween! Even the trailer for this, came out the same day as the Halloween reboot! The peters face distorted, was real...he accidentally dislocated his jaw... that's not makeup, kids! The lady joan, also did some other cult worship film or TV show! How Toni didn't win an Oscar, is beyond me! This director also did Midsommer,....im not saying it isnt a great film or direction, i just couldn't buy into the story... Ur gonna also have to watch, The Nun, the descent, drag me to hell, barbarian, and excorcist, the conjuring.!
This is my very favorite horror movie. It is truly disturbing. If you don't pay attention to this slow burn you will miss things. The ritual in the end is what bothered me most. Where did they come up with that idea? Great movie.
I love these guys. I just keep subscribing and subscribing to different and awesome unique reactioners (?). Where is Marian from? Soviet or Balkan perhaps? I hope I'm not being insulting. I'm Mexican and people think I'm just Caucasian. Sometimes it does bug me a bit the stereotyping of Mexicans.
My only problem with this film is that Charlie and family members keep leaving the house with her without an epi pen. I don't believe anyone would keep doing that.

Other pro tips. The demon can't be in a strong person or man. That's why hubby burned, and I believe Annie's dad and brother, killed themselves, cuz they knew what was happening to them. My theory about ''Hereditary'' is, ''Annie Graham'' (Toni Collette, one of my all time favorite actresses) and ''Steve Graham'' (Gabriel Byrne) were trying for years to get pregnant, but it never happened, so they adopted ''Peter'' (people who say, how is that even possible? Because Annie was trying to get a miscarriage*, when she ''was pregnant of ''Peter''!? But when was it she actually mentioned it? While she was sleepwalking, and what was the first thing she said, when she came into ''Peter's'' room? ''Where's Charlie?''). But a few years later, I guess 5 to 7 years (when ''Annie'' and ''Steve'' were actually way too old to get children), they still get pregnant, of a girl, ''Charlie'''. ''Annie'' said, when she got ''Peter'', she would not get her mom too close with her son, but when ''Charlie'' (actually a boy's name), she let her be. So talkin' 'bout Hereditary, ''Peter'' doesn't have any bloodline with the ''Graham's'', so when ''Joan'' tells'/yells to ''Peter'', ''I expell you!'', ''Charlie'' can take over his body, hence, hereditary. Btw, the so-called miscarriage, she was trying to get, is that the reason that ''Charlie''' doesn't look like an average girl? Greetings from The Netherlands.
The grandmother had to children fora vessel for Paiman. Paiman wants a male body. The male Paimon inhabits needs to be mentally broken down for Paiman to possess him. Paiman either possessed Toni’s brother or was trying to but her brother was able to kill himself before he was completely possessed. Paiman partly possessed Charlie but wants Peter since he’s a male. The picture of the grandmother feeding the baby, the bottle has black herbs in it. The same herb that the grandmother’s friend puts in Toni’s tea. Supposedly the black herbs help Paimon possess whomever eats them.
Gotta watch every reaction to this awesome masterpiece lol. Definitely similar to paranormal activity in bits of the story lol with a ancestor making a deal or something and the first son has to be the demon hist or it wants him for something lol. Reminds me of Michael Myers too. Maybe this is what happened to Michael Myers lol. That's why he went mad all of a sudden or maybe it wasn't all of a sudden lol. I could see them making a movie like this or one of paranormal activity movies but its about the Myers family leading up to that night like could start when mama pregnant like in that one paranormal activity then leap through time showing him grow up. Maybe hes normal at first but then has a imaginary friend that's nice at first but starts telling him to do start and be bad and to stop talking or not as much disassociate from everyone and stare out the window looking at it or staring at wall at what its doing lol. Til he can fully take him over and have a new host but it has to be at his consent which of course it is cause it made him hate everyone so he wants everyone dead or at least sister didn't do anything to the parents. Maybe it got him to do it then he's like in autopilot or so shocked at what he did he's like in a trance lol.

The lady joan, also did some other cult worship film or TV show! How Toni didn't win an Oscar, is beyond me! This director also did Midsommer,....im not saying it isnt a great film or direction, i just couldn't buy into the story...

This is my very favorite horror movie. It is truly disturbing. If you don't pay attention to this slow burn you will miss things. The ritual in the end is what bothered me most. Where did they come up with that idea? Great movie.

Because Annie was trying to get a miscarriage*, when she ''was pregnant of ''Peter''!? But when was it she actually mentioned it? While she was sleepwalking, and what was the first thing she said, when she came into ''Peter's'' room? ''Where's Charlie?''). But a few years later, I guess 5 to 7 years (when ''Annie'' and ''Steve'' were actually way too old to get children), they still get pregnant, of a girl, ''Charlie'''. ''Annie'' said, when she got ''Peter'', she would not get her mom too close with her son, but when ''Charlie'' (actually a boy's name), she let her be. The grandmother had to children fora vessel for Paiman. Paiman wants a male body. The male Paimon inhabits needs to be mentally broken down for Paiman to possess him. Paiman either possessed Toni’s brother or was trying to but her brother was able to kill himself before he was completely possessed. Paiman partly possessed Charlie but wants Peter since he’s a male. The picture of the grandmother feeding the baby, the bottle has black herbs in it. The same herb that the grandmother’s friend puts in Toni’s tea. Supposedly the black herbs help Paimon possess whomever eats them.
Gotta watch every reaction to this awesome masterpiece lol. Definitely similar to paranormal activity in bits of the story lol with a ancestor making a deal or something and the first son has to be the demon hist or it wants him for something lol. Reminds me of Michael Myers too. Maybe this is what happened to Michael Myers lol. That's why he went mad all of a sudden or maybe it wasn't all of a sudden lol. I could see them making a movie like this or one of paranormal activity movies but its about the Myers family leading up to that night like could start when mama pregnant like in that one paranormal activity then leap through time showing him grow up. Maybe hes normal at first but then has a imaginary friend that's nice at first but starts telling him to do start and be bad and to stop talking or not as much disassociate from everyone and stare out the window looking at it or staring at wall at what its doing lol. Til he can fully take him over and have a new host but it has to be at his consent which of course it is cause it made him hate everyone so he wants everyone dead or at least sister didn't do anything to the parents. Maybe it got him to do it then he's like in autopilot or so shocked at what he did he's like in a trance lol.
