$350~ for S30V fixed blades. Benchmade is on drugs.
Benchmade has had dementia for a while now.
Even for 3V or something just go and get a custom build at that price
Don't forget that quality control! Amazing stuff!
Who do they think they are… Ram?
I could get two fixed blades in s30v from other american manufacturers for the price of that one benchmade
When you talk about additional styles of a certain knife you should add a picture on the screen of the other options! Love the vids thanks guys 🫡
polyetherimide is Ultem. It's the non-branded name for the same material. Like PTFE is the same as Teflon
Right... it is the same thing.
Magnacut ESEE Sencillo is approx $170 street price - Benchmade in S30V is $340-360 their pricing has crossed the line of ridonkulous!!! I look at Benchmade buyers these days as the people who dont really know knives and buy them bc they are expensive and thus, “they must be the best”. 😂😂😂
Maybe Benchmade is trying to go after those who drive Rivian or Cybertruck to the mountains. Benchmade is nutz.
Bark river gunny scandi with a convex and 3v or magnacut is about $250 for mid fancy handles, basic micarta is only $210, even reiff knives which I think are over priced is still cheaper than a benchmade with much better steel. Hogue makes some very good fixed blades with cpm154 or a2 I think for way way less. $350 will get you one of the fancy fallkniven knives.
It’s insane to me that it’s not even special scales with titanium and carbon fiber, just G10
Gotta be a like 55% profit margin on that knife
@@yourotherleft I don't really see the analogy. If you've got a problem with electric vehicles, that's got nothing to do with Benchmade pricing. And for what it's worth, on a camping trip in the mountains you can actually keep your EV battery topped up with solar panels. Good luck finding a gas station in the wilderness.
Or they just simply like it. ;)
Finch and tactile are my favorites this week
"Through Tang Clan"
Genius!
Buschscot is on pre-order!!!! Can not wait!!! Thank you for the vid.
That finch blade looks stunning!
I agree.
Thomas's ad libs are priceless, most of the time, anyway. 😁
360 for that bench made? Ooooof. I could buy a few lifetime knives for that price
I forget the maker..I think The James Brand...had a 300 folder in 154 cm or D2....I was stunned it wasn't a more premium steel...I know their fit and finish is legendary...but yikes. Benchmade also has a 154CM For close to 400....it's crazy
Almost can buy 3 ESEE.
why did you say “ooooof”?
That’s almost 3 ESEE’s as someone above said. I would much rather do that.
I’m a bark river fan and even the most expensive versions of their knives barely tough mid 300’s and those have hand sharpened convex blades and hand shaped handles and the $300+ knives have crazy handles, like “Texas fence post” “pine cone” “some with whatever that blue stone is called, I can’t remember the name, even the suretouch handles are that expensive, and I’m talking about the super steel variants, 3v, magnacut, cpm154, s35vn, I guess maybe some of the giant knives might hit 350’s sooner but those have like 12”-18” blades, and all the knives feature a true zero grind, bencmades have been very inconsistent with not only their secondary bevels like sharpened edge varies in width from beginning to end, but one sided being like 1/32 sharpened edge the other side being like 1/18, we’ve had some Adam’s folders come in that the primary grind was so off from knife to the other I originally thought they made a new version of the Adam’s, one was about an 1/8th of in shorter from edge to spine, I wasn’t even looking for anything like that I was just checking inventory and it caught my eye, for a $350 knife they should all be the exact same.
Ultem is the brand name for polyetherimide made by General Electric Plastics Division, now SABIC. Other polyetherimide manufacturers that can't use the Ultem trademark, but its the same polymer.
Here, its just like DuPont trademarks like Teflon for PTFE coatings, or Nylon for polyamide.
Love your style mate.!
$990 for the Arius? I more or less gave up collecting last year and when I bought my Arius maybe three, four years ago it was $635. All titanium, gen 4, blue ti hardware, M390. I'd be totally broke if I was still collecting. It's why I stopped and sold off 135 knives. But the Arius is one of the 70 or so I still have. The closing action is just butter. Best I've felt.
Yeah, Arius has definitely been called out for being way too expensive in recent times
Great collection of cutting tools.
My father always carried a Case penknife, two blades, about 2.5 inches. I worked as a theatre tech for about 20 years with a Craftsman four-blade camp knife.
Currently, I carry a Victorinox Rambler, and, as needed, a Victorinox Tourist or an Evogrip 14. I have many others, including various Case knives and most Victorinox knives, a Buck 110 and 119 (from the mid 1970s), and a Mora Companion and Garberg. but they are mostly a collection, not generally used.
Wow I really appreciate you pointing out the simplicity of tip down carry. I’m happy with either option, but I’ve always wondered at the mass hatred of tip down carry. I find it to be one of the most debatable knife factors that is rarely debated😂
Designs are beautiful. Milling!
Been looking for a full size Spartan plague doctor for quite a while. Finally pulled the trigger a couple days ago and received it yesterday from you guys quite a piece of knife art very happy. Don’t really understand why you guys still had one available but not complaining.
Thank you David!!!!
Ultem is a brand name for PEI material... similar with Micarta being an actual name brand
That benchmade with 24 k gold liners is a steal ! ...What? The liners are not 24 k gold ? Did Johnny Cash carry it the day he died ? Hmmm might be overpriced then.😂
It's platinumless platinum to be exact!
I think they meant it to be genuine faux premium, now if only I could buy one with my genuine counterfeit cash !
I heard they started quenching their blades in angel tears, gotta be where that added value is coming from 🤷🏻♂️
"Grapejuice out of lemons" 😂😂 21:00
Always great to see
Dave, as a forgotten left hander, don't be afraid to amplify a knife when it offers a reversible clip. I bought one too many knives assuming the knife was reversible, but found out many dollars later that I was wrong. Left handers UNITE!
Fixed blades up front is the way.
Agree
@@AC-xq5wm Like if I am about to pay premium rates for anything, it better not already be broken in half....
I'll stay with my vg1 s.r.k. an s.r.k.-c, been using for a number of years still going strong.
There are so many options out there. Why would anyone buy a benchmade
Hi from Hydro in the Great Plains Wyoming.. after just subscribing to your show, I'm impressed. I have some questions about how you feel about a couple knifes I've acquired recently. A HJ knife with the flours-de-Lillis Edge Brand Germany.. and an M1A8 Bayonet. Thanks for all the info you provide!
I have a few inexpensive folders, as in Virginia, Ausonia, Opinel and a couple of souvenir blades, then a Victorinox RangerGrip 78 and a SOG Terminus XR in S35VN. I'm considering getting a Spyderco and I really love the Cruwear - Micarta combo, but should I go for a ParaMilitary 2 or a Paramilitary 3? Decisions, decisions.
So what's the difference is the kitsune s and t?
Fixies!!!!❤❤❤
Man if I had the money I'd own that CKF Justice Mini today!! Gorgeous knife! 🤤
Wish you the best))
@@CkfRussiamuch appreciated 🙏
Protech, Finch and Tactile Co!!!!!
I'm not the biggest fan of a satin blade finish.. But the satin on that CKF Justice is friggin' amazing. Everything about that knife just screams expensive.
Thank you)
Why is there always a drive to make folders left hand compatible, but fixed blades are always set up for right hand belt carry?
Grape juice from lemons. wonderful
Down with Fixed blade friday!
Up with Fixed blade Fursday!
Lol So good to have Thomas back.
That Spyderco Cathman was pretty cool, but those Koenig's are getting crazy expensive now! I thought they were too expensive at 600 n change, the customs from the Knife Company seem more worthy of that heavy price tag. Thanks fellas
And now the Arius is *used*.
DCA is a great presenter and has definitely prompted some knife sales from me but I have to listen at 1.25x speed though 😅. Thomas should do an episode some day too.
I'll stick with mora fixed blades- all day!
Worst part: it will outperform the Benchmade at bushcrafting 😅
I prefer the Spyderco Ronin 2 fixed blade. Benchmade is getting insane with their prices, I only own a mini grip from them for that reason.
"From green to bread" was a good one, Thomas.
Those Custom Knife Factory knives's blade geometry are perfect. The handles are a work of art.
Prices, in my opinion, are almost a bargain.
$360.00 for that Benchmade is ridiculous. I have the original which I bought before the first price increase. I think that was under $230.00 with shipping. Same steel and a new grip, cannot see it.
I have the $162 and picked it up for $100 when Gander went out of business. I couldn't see paying full price then and sure as heck not now.
How many years ago?
And how much money did you waste on your overpriced house and vehicles?
Thanks fellers
To Thomas: I got your “green to bread” reference.
Damnnn tha CKF Justice... Love Tashi Bharucha designs now.... at first I didnt but now I can see the appeal...
Yeah, agreed)
That Timberwolf belly /straight blade is smexy almost refined the blade shape ideal for my ideal blade shape
Sometimes I imagine if all blades were like that Timberwolf
Maybe even a Katanna
Would be super strong with lots of belly and some straight edge mixed in
IMO when it comes to comfortable handle design Shane Sibert is up there with guys like Bill Harsey and LT Wright. He may be lesser known than the aforementioned gentleman but he does one heck of a good job.
😂 a week ago i said how absurd knife prices have got i was told to be quiet and sit with the poor people
That was good advice.
Dont worry most of the comment trolls who tell you that probably dont even carry a knife every day
@@talisikid1618 it was... I'll leave you and your imaginary friends to buy all the overpriced knives so you can tell each other how rich and cool you are.
I'll stick to being smart with my money.
How about Work Tuff Gear focuses on making enough of the knives they have already released instead of spreading themselves even thinner. I've been waiting on a Carnivore to become available since they were first released! Geesh.
Nomads were here then they were gone.
What the crap?
SK-5 :( Cold steel for this steel is @30dol (for srk) Work Tuff looks nice, but the steel are cheap,
@@landofpc I have numerous cold steel knives in SK-5 that have lasted over a decade now under heavy abuse. While I own/carry Magnacut and CPM3V knives as well, there is nothing wrong with a good heat treated knife in SK-5. Especially if it it is knife you beat on daily.
@@lynnjr457 I don't mind this steel, just the price for it. I also have CS SRK sk-5, but if srk costs 30-40, why work tuff cost 165?.
@@landofpc I am normally with you on the cost of knives being crazy, but not all SK-5 is created or treated equally. Owning several SRKs in SK-5 bought over the years and having used several of my friend's WTG knives in SK-85/SK-5, I can tell you first hand the they are on different ends of the quality spectrum. I have sworn by CS knives for years and still abuse them daily, but their quality has gone down significantly in recent years. CS SRKs have been a favorite gift knife of mine for years. I give them away to friends who need a good knife and/or to their kids reaching an age that need a tough knife to rely on (alongside a Mora 510 and cheap SAK). With that said, the last 4 or 5 I have had to regrind the edge on them as they were uneven, or down right dull out of the box. The plastic sheaths are rattling way more than they used to. I fear that with GSI taking over CS, their quality continues to go down hill. I can't rightly compare a $40, 30yr old assembly line knife design with degrading quality to a Small Batch manufacturer making larger knives with far better results. WTG doesn't need to hide their manufacturing imperfections beneath paint like CS does on the SK-5 SRKs. I am with you that sometimes the cost is hard to justify, but if you ever get your hands on one of the WTG knives, I think you will understand first hand that it is in a different realm of build quality.
Wouldn't mind work tough upgrading the steel they use(don't get me wrong sk5 isn't terrible, but)
3V would be badass!!
$360 for s30v is criminal
Another week anxiously scanning the table hoping to see the DCA MKM Tango 1 that I pre-ordered. 😊. Can't wait.
Are there any button locks out there for lefty's?
Thomas must have taken the morning meds today. Boy was on a heater.
Benchmade is high AF with those prices. You can get a Bark River in Cru wear that's far superior in quality AND save $100. That's crazy
I'm pretty sure PEI is the same thing as ultem. That one might be sandblasted.
I didn't read the other comments before making mine. 😅
I love the look of the Kizer Cutlery Swaggs Chili Pepper, but I’m retired, living on a pension with limited disposable income for pocket knives.
FIXED BLADES! YES!
Damn it, had no intrest in that spyderco till you said sprint run 😮💨
I so glad to see so many people commenting about Benchmade prices. I thought it was just me! They aren't the only ones going crazy with the made in the USA tax though.
There aren’t that many, it is the same 40 or so people that come out of their basement whenever there is a Benchmade knife and then they repeat themselves adding to the various posts. They generally no nothing about how pricing works, deal in anecdotal information and then go back to their mother’s basement. They ignore every other knife company that has raised their prices and trade in false information. Which is why I ask asking DCA to stop showing Benchmade.
@@davidgarrett5671 Currently own 10 Benchmade knives, 4 of which are autos.... With that, Benchmade pricing over the past two years actually made me start looking at more of the Chinese options out there. Kizer, civivi and we have been absolutely killing it these past two years. The civivi vision fg is litteraly one of my all time favorite folders, even when compared to a few $600+ folders in my collection. Much better than the demko shark lock at half the price.
You mean every video or social media post for the last couple years. High quality fully ambi knives made in USA with a lifetime warranty. I have a lot of Benchmade and they’re very well made and the CS is incredible
@@davidgarrett5671bingo. You can always spot a moron on here with their bs about Benchmade and similar brands. They’re a bunch of Wally World warriors in love with Chinese prices and cheap for the sake of being cheap.
I would rather get 35 moras for bushcrafting instead of a benchmade and ask my daughter to draw a butterfly on each side on all 35 of them😂
Which will happen first- DCA stops explaining what Magnacut is, or reporters stop calling X “formerly known as Twitter”
Close call.
Come on! The O knife needs a built in FLASHLIGHT.....HELLLLOOOOO😂😂😂😂😂😂
What a bright idea!
@@jayr526so bad of a joke it's good.
@@jayr526 🤣🤣🤣
Bothers me how when Kizer OEMs a crossbar lock for Knafs (the lander 2) they call it a Clutch lock and give it the adjustment holes, but when they make them for olight they don't. :(
$350 for the bushcrafter is pure insanity, you can get just about any bark river, fallnkniven or even the expensive reiff knives
Love all the fixed blades! Hate the prices on Benchmade. Absolutely insane.... I can get custom magnacut fixed blades for less.
Since they brought back the 162, I really hope they bring back the 200 and 202, and maybe an upgrade to non coated cruwear or maybe magnacut, and maybe instead of scandi, either a scandivex or convex.
Benchmade needs to listen to the consumer. The prices they are asking for their knives with materials that are not cutting edge are in another galaxy. 🎸🔪
The Kant Afford Galaxy
Holy smokes is that an Olight with no obnoxious signage on the blade?
Thank Gawd you got a new shirt! Just looked up swedgy hmmm...not scrabble-able.
Any lightweight fixed blade worth getting? Or should I just get the bugout? I wear nursing scrubs for work.. My last house visit got me on edge, so I am looking for an EDC but not too heavy. Putting my phone and wallet in my scrubs is already trouble (held up by drawstring).
I will most likely just clip it to the inside of my boxer briefs.
I feel you should really define what you mean by lightweight. I have a bug out and a Kershaw Bel Air. I would never choose to carry the bug out over the Bel Air. The Bel Air weighs in at 2.9 ounces
Good thing with these lock patents is only you're trying to sell em on TV they're all cross bar locks. Or whatever blows your skirt up
Thanks for the knives, but I find tip-up is quicker to engage the knife and have a firm grip on it, with minimal movement. I pulled my PM2 out to try it and in pulling it out I had a firm grip and then deployed the blade….ready to go. Maybe it’s my comfortability with the knife🤷🏻♂
Quicker to engage in a defensive situation?
@@tyarnold4088 God forbid I would ever have to engage in a knife fight(fml), but yeah. I’m much more comfortable and quick tip up. Maybe if I had gone the other route it may be different. Imo the Emerson Wave seems to be the quickest overall. But, yeah…
@@thepugilist4379 unfortunately sometimes a person needs to. Hopefully not though, like you said.
I was looking forward to the CF Bushcrafter coming out in a few months. Once i discovered Esee and their fixed blades, i think ill pass.I can get 3 or 4 Esee 3s for $450
The Chilli Pepper is a great little knife. Love the fat carbon, but the thumb stud color is a deal breaker
Ultem is a brand name of PEI...
Or you could say PEI is the generic name for Ultem.
Its used to coat build plates for 3D printing.
I'd love to see them try some other superpolymers. Give me some PEEK handles or something else crazy.
@@Freakmaster480 I think the price would be prohibitive.
Ultem is relatively low cost for its high performance. PEEK may have much superior performance, but it costs much much more.
@@marine6680 We're paying into the hundreds of dollars per knife. Knife companies or companies that sell aftermarket parts have every ability to charge enough to make it profitable as a neiche or low volume product.
Ultem® is polyetherimide
Don't make a spear and throw it? That is absolutely the only thing I ever picture doing with a knife lashed to a stick.
David: is the pocket clip reversible for lefties on the Tactile Rockwall? I'm guessing no. But hoping yes. I love their stuff, would absolutely break the bank for one of their knives, but they don't give a darn about left handed knife users. Thanks for any answer and thoughts on the large anti-lefty brigade that is knife companies.
Unfortunately it is not reversible
I still prefer my 4" Recon 1, $100 new last year
Never seen a toddler that large before.
Oh no. Lol.
👍
I’m dying to get the Mini Bushcrafter in Cruwear but definitely not paying that ticket for it. I’ll stick with my Esee 3 in s35vn that was less than $170 with custom kydex & Ulticlip
You get what you pay for.
@@talisikid1618 Like an ESEE Sencillo for $170ish sporting Magnacut and Micarta? Yeah bro that Benchmade just screams value at $360 in s35 and crap handles
The malibu is still in stock cause it's not the reverse tanto version
he's right .... no one can touch the malibu's action ... it's so satifying.
The higher ups at Benchmade are still completely off of their meds. Sad thing, people will buy them. For the price of those knives, you can get a semi custom LTWK, or buy a Bradford Guardian in Magnacut for $100 less. My main fixed blade and folder that I carry in the woods is almost half of the cost of one of the Benchmades. So that with BM's often questionable fit and finish, and even a Griptilian is a hard no from me these days. But, the price on these is still not as wacky as that $600 Bailout. 😂 🤡
Dang that Spyderco already discontinued.
Tell wTG we need to have the nymph DCA did you hear me nymph❤
What??
Mad price for a knife
Making ginger beer tonight.
From green to bread want a Comedic genius
👍🍻
one of each please
Im sooo curious about the Koenig Arius... It doesnt look like much... but EVERYONE seems to love it so much... I wanna know what this feels like..ut $900???
Any love for chisel ground knives?
Never tried one
Jeez, you can clearly hear the lockstick on that Malibu. I contacted Pro Tech about the lockstick on my Malibu. They said it will eventually wear in but never go away because it’s a trait of the button lock design. Tell that to Civivi. I have several button lock Civivi’s that are smooth as heck and didn’t require ’break in’ and don’t have lockstick. Oh well.
…and if you deploy the knife with the button you won’t get the button stick. It is apparently an artifact of the Malibu being their automatic knife without the spring rather than a designed button lock. And yes their autos also have the button stick. At Blade Show Texas for 2 years running they compared it to the stick on their autos. They said it needs to do that to get a firm lock. Which doesn’t explain why it doesn’t do so when you deploy with the button. Or as you said why other companies don’t have it.
Why anyone would buy a $200+ dollar button lock is beyond me. It’s one of the least reliable locks you can get. And yeah Civivi does the lock better at a fraction of the price.
Is a crossbar lock really 'fingersafe' ? When you release the lock and flick it closed your thumb and forefinger are safe - but you better have moved your other fingers out of the blade path just as with any other design.
The very first thing I do with these videos is look for the Benchmade and click the link to check the price for what it is. 99 percent of the time, that makes me blow right by it in the video. They (the company) is ridiculous anymore.
