Thank you for this video. I had a bilateral mastectomy 11 years ago and, while I never experienced cording I think you've done an incredible service to those of us who need information (even 11 years later!) about our bodies after surgery. You have become my "go to guru" because of your comforting and generous style of communication.

Hi Jessica! I was diagnosed with breastcancer about 8 years ago and also had double mastectomy with removal of lymph nodes. Up till now, I think Iam quite fortunate not to have cording, although my left arm has always remained "thicker" than the right, but no hurts. I got the instruction to do some exercices similar to the ones you show us every now and then. I was told at that moment that it also works a bit preventative. What I never got explained that clearly however is the working of the lymphatic system. Wauw Jessica, thanks so much for making it so easily understandable. As the lady in the previous reaction, I think you are a blessing to many. And indeed, may God bless you and may He grant you complete healing and continue to use you in this way. Sending you all my love.

Dx 10 years ago…. My cording redeveloped after 4 years of no symptoms. This is so timely for me. PT for breast cancer is a must! I am happy I discovered your channel to as Pilates has been the best mode of exercise post treatment.

I'm so grateful to God that I came across your channel while searching for exercises for pain & tightness that started months after a lumpectomy. I didn't realize it's called cording. I had 6 lymph nodes removed, so they did a bit of digging in there in my case, lol. I am blessed to have healed pretty well, considering, but these exercises will definitely help the pain in my shoulders & tightness in the armpit area. Thanks for sharing.

@@JessicaValantPilates Very helpful. I laugh every time I do the Scoliosis workout when you extend left arm over head and tell us "Eventually this will start to feel good. I promise." It never has felt better and now I know why. Something else
to add to my daily workout. You are such a role model for positive thinking and doing. Thank you.

Jessica, thank you so much for this information. 2 years ago I had a single mastectomy with no reconstruction. I had 4 lymph nodes removed, and one was positive for cancer. On top of all of that, when I was 15 I had a spinal cord injury and have Brown’s Sequard Syndrome. So I have some paralysis and spasticity on the left side, which is the same side I had the mastectomy. I’ve had a lot of pain and tightness in that arm for the last 2 years, which I think may be cording. I will try doing these exercises and massage and see if it helps. Thank you so much for the detailed video.

I had 5 nodes removed. My PT told me not to carry my purse or totes on the shoulder of that side. I had lots of cording. My surgeon taught my husband how to break them. They were from my arm pit to wrist and were large. He would massage and stretch the skin between his fingers and then gently flick them with his fingers and the would release. They eventually stopped forming. I thought of them as adhesions/scar tissue.

Thank you for your video and explanation. I have developed cording from my armpit to my elbow - though I have not had breast cancer. (I have since had a thermography to check my breasts). I had a breast reduction 45 yrs ago & I do have a lot of scar tissue in the breast on the cording side. My breast size increased a little recently prior to the cording starting - so perhaps that was it.

I have cording in my left chest peck. I had 12 lymph nodes removed. My arm only goes up to shoulder level. I have been going to physical therapy and acupuncture, cupping for two years. Nothing works. The worst pain and muscle spasms. I am quitting therapy next month. Not wasting anymore money. I just got a lymph massage machine. I will use that for swelling. But I am looking into more corrective surgery.
Make sure you don't have your blood pressure or blood taken on the side lymph was removed.

If you’ve had lymph nodes removed that’s quite correct, no BPs, IV lines or bloods taken in that side.

Is cording effective for eliminating or reduce the forming of breast cysts?
I am 61 years old, and I am prone to breast cysts. Luckily the 3 times that I have had this process, they have been just that, simple cysts, and I have been so relieved. When I have asked the doctors for ways to prevent breast cysts, their answer has only been to cut caffeine. I think movement/massage could be helpful. I would love to know your thoughts.
Wishing you the best with your healing journey!
    Thank you, Barbara

This was news to me; when I was about to go into surgery the doctor told me my sentinel was negative; at that time I know I did not have any removal of a lymph node; I had a double mastectomy but cancer only on one breast maybe at that time they may have removed the node but I did not ask; I have never had any swelling nor did I have any problems lifting my arms after surgery. I guess I was lucky; I also did not have reconstruction until 5 years after my breast surgery; I have been very lucky with that too, Have never had any problems with my implants they are now 13 years old as well as it's been 18 years since my breast surgery.
