- I Made Cruella's Fire Transformation Costume with REAL FIRE | Louise Katzovitz
Come along as I DIY the fire transformation costume from the 2021 Disney Cruella movie. I'll be making both the cape and the dress underneath, and some real graphics for the flame transformation. I make both the fiery red ball gown, satin cape, and all the accessories go along with it!
For the movie magic effects, I sewed a miniature cape out of nitrocellulose, also known as flash paper or flash cotton, and was able to create incredible visual effects.
I've always loved transformations in movies, and it's even better when it's on the runway and the transformations are REAL. I'm the type of person to gasp audibly, and transforming garments does it for me. I'm so happy that I got to make this, and I hope you gasp while watching this! Let me know if there are any other transformations you want me to recreate from film in the comments! Or just say hi in the comments :)

What type of transformation should I do next?! A recreation, or something completely new?! Comment below what you'd like to see :)
Any of the transformations you showed would be fun to see. Didn't you love Zendaya's gown when she appeared on the red carpet???
@@annbrookens945 The Cinderella one a few years back?? I made the Westworld dress, and that video is coming out in the next few weeks! :)
Hey have you seen Cassie Levy perform as Elsa "let it go" on Frozen Broadway, I mean the transformation is iconic I hope you can make that soon
@@ecoxystem8870 I just watched it and WOW people went wild when she transformed
Katniss dress from The Hunger Games
I have no idea about fashion. I thought it is unnecessary.oh my god for a single performance in cinema there are huge works behind it. I love this. I love your dedication. I love it. Thank you buddy 👏
I wasn't able to find exactly how they did it, but I imagine they studied fire for the CGI. The transition only lasts about 3 seconds!
the waist on the red dress is fabulous, and the way you hid the zipper is so smart!
Thank you!! It was a ton of work to hand place all of the strips, but it definitely paid off :)
While you were covering the zipper, I thought "this girl has commitment!"
Got a solid laugh out of the tiny sewing machine edit 😂😂👌🏻
I'm so glad!! It's much more difficult to use than my regular sewing machine, BUT you can power it by AAs which is impressive and makes it super portable! Thanks for watching Dale :)
Absolutely love the end result! I'd love seeing you recreate the Dalmatian coat from the film! If you decide to, I have a LOT of reference photos and videos of said costume as well as details on the original fabrics!
Thank you!! If I remember correctly, it's the coat with the voluminous circle skirt? That would be a really good one to do!!
@@LouiseKatzovitz That's right! It also has these amazing folds in the skirt that help it stay very structured!
If you have any social media, I can send the references to you! :)
@@immortalmjdancr Sure! send it to me via instagram @LouiseKatzovitz! I'm not sure I'll make it since it doesn't have any engineering elements to it, but I'll put it on a list for later :)
Omg, I also graduated Mechanical Engineering and a Diploma in Fashion.
Wonderful! I knew there must be others out there!!!!! Hello!
Finally watched the movie!!!!! Ultra cool project girl.. and the tiny sewing machine was definitely worth the pun 🤪😂
So glad you finally got to watch both the cruella movie and my project inspired by it :) Wasn't the movie so good?!
Loved the movie,especially this scene
Not gonna lie I am slightly disappointed that the fire part was not full scale but super cool video! I really liked the mannequin tests and the step by steps.
Hope to see more!
Oh no!! I'm sad I didn't make a full sized one this time, but next time!!
I think it would be a serious fire hazard. But maybe using non flammable liquid on whole body and hair, and then doing that could work a little. But still better just try with a mannequin
Well done. I enjoyed your video! Love to see a decent Cinderella transformation. The one on Broadway was fun and big budget. Perhaps something on a more palatable budget for regular humans!
Thank you, I loved how the cape and dress turned out. I didn’t realize there was a broadway show for cruella/ 101 Dalmatians!
love this dress, very interested in how you attached the detail strips to create the wrinkles and the clasps in the dress. can you please share
Thank you! All of the strips were pinned in place then hand tacked to the bodice underneath. When I got to the zipper area, I used small metal clasps used for zipper openings. I placed on half on the bodice hidden by the strips and the other half on strips that were almost all tacked to the bodice except for the ends. Then when latching the metal clasps, the ends are tucked and it turns out seamless! Hope that helps!
This video deserves more views and likes tbh. Love your dress very much and the transformation technique ❤️
These comments always make me so happy :) Thank you so much!!!!
you have 226 subscribers what the heck! So much work put in.Well done!
I'm honored and I'm working on it, slowly growing! I just started this channel a few months ago, excited to see people getting excited about it :)
This is awesome👌🏻you are so talented and is the best fashion designer I’ve ever seen!
You are awesome💕(BTW the mini sewing machine was awesome!!!😂)
Glad you enjoyed the mini sewing machine joke, and thank you for the wonderfully kind compliments!
It took 6 decades for me to see an intelligent woman in a man's world of inventions, science, and engineering. UA-cam and TicTak is the reason for that, for which I am extremely grateful. This young woman will go far.
VERY COOL COSTUME
THANK YOU
I love it. I want a cruella custome for Halloween
Do it!!!!!! Last time I was at Joanns, I saw a paper pattern for this dress 😅 I think this will be a popular one this year!!!!!
The "Hello" from the model was juste A-DO-RA-BLE
Hahaha I laugh way too hard at the jokes I put in my videos, glad others enjoy them too!!!
you are so unbelievably talented that is awesome, I'm gna try the dumpster dress she wore
Ah thank you! This dress had a ton of hand work. I can't wait to see your dumpster dress recreation!!!! That one was also stunning
Ahhhh Wegmans!!! 😭😭 I miss that place!
Everything turned out amazing!!!
I miss it so much!! Haven’t been able to find a replacement yet.
Ahh thank you for your kind words!! :)
Oh my god I'm so happy I discovered you!!! I'M IN LOVE
I am so happy you found me!!!! Welcome!
This one wowed me! I absolutely love your attention to detail!
I aim to wow! Glad you enjoyed it.
This has blown my mind away! I truly love extraordinary creativity like this. Please, what’s the name of the material you used for the cape?
Oh wow you’re so talented. I saw you on a refinery 29 article & subscribed right away!
Thank you!! I'm honored you subscribed, glad you found me!!! :)
the fire part was sooo cooool
Incredible talent and eye for hands on 3D work. Video built well as well! Still watching....
Thank you so much for saying that! Even though the hand work took a long time, it definitely paid off! I'd never done something like the standing collar before.
Love it! Amazing :)
Thank you! Glad you liked it :)
That was so cool 😭
❤❤❤❤I love it so much!! My favorite one is the dress that transforms in the water!! I would love a tutorial on that!! I've subscribed to you!!
Love ❤️ ❤️
You are super talented
Ah thank you so much!!!!
Wow
Thank you!
Blooming genius!
tysm :D
I'm making this costume for halloween this year, and I wanted to ask: about how much tulle did you use?
Great choice in costume :D I can't wait to see how it turns out! I'm pretty sure I used around 5 yards of 54" tulle!
@@LouiseKatzovitz thank you so much!
I am just stunned...😍
🥰 thank you!!!! Glad to have stunned you!
Ahhhhhh that was great! I did love your green screen bit. Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it! That was my first time using a green screen and doing CGI, I've been learning how to improve my video editing skills and I really enjoyed how "bad" the CGI is that I did, I thought it added to the humor 😂
Katniss dress formation from The Hunger Games was absolutely stunning.
Woo hoo! This is so cool! I instantly subscribed!
:) Glad you liked it! Thank you!
Girl, here is your new subscriber, I subscribed . You deserve more subscribers. Good job and your mini sewing machine is cute ❤😊👍😀. Love you.
I love a new subscriber, hello and welcome!!! The mini sewing machine is cute.... but it is such a pain to use. Imagine how wonderful it is to go from a home sewer to a juki, and now flip that to a downgrade 😂 At least the mini sewing machine can travel well!
@@LouiseKatzovitz 😁❤👍
12:10 she did that 😭💅
How amazingly ridiculous was that 😂
@@LouiseKatzovitz lmfaoooo that was amazing!! It caught me off gaurd
Iconic Asf
Irl would the hood in the cape not cause the fire to be too close to a person's very flammable hair?
Like I can see the fire dress skit maybe working on top of flame resistant dress, but not over her flammable hair. Movie magic i guess
really realistic 😻
Thank you!!
Great job. I am going to show this to my yourh who are intetested in fashion.
Thank you! I love inspiring people to follow their passions :)
That was amazing!
Aw thank you! :D
I was so inspired with this dress I wish I can make this dress one day too
You absolutely can!! I believe in you!
😅😂😂😂😂😂it's soo funny
That was great 🌹🌹🌹🌹🍸
Thank you so much 😊😍🔥
Your amazing-
Thank you! :)
Wow! This was soo sooo sooo cool...or HOT :) And I am a fan of your work already.
i love you work
:) Thank you!!! I worked really hard on this outfit
You could've just fold them into pleats instead of cutting there was enough material for even bigger detailed pleats , the cutting looks untidy . The cape looks better and neater then dress looks so untidy. At least you tried but keep practising its gets better and tidy with time .
Thank you for the feedback! It is intended to look messy since in the movie it was a reworked piece. But I will keep that in mind if I do a similar technique in the future!
Very nice your dress ❤❤ you are fashion designer 😊😊 8
Hi, It’s my daughter here. She was watching this because she wants to be a fashion designer when she grows up.
Omg this made my day. If she wants to be one when she grows up, she already is! You can learn to sew and design at any age 😊 Good luck to her!!
🤩
😍
Hi I want the outer fire coat for my function. Is it possible to get it? I not the designer but I love the outer one
Hi! For any custom commissions, please email me at louise@louisekatzovitz.com!
💯💯💯💯
😊
If i were to make the cape ( human sized) would i need to sew it from that paper if i really want to ligth it on fire?
Hello lousise I would like to know wich material/stuff you used for the cape because I’m a hobby designer and would love to do such a transformation.
My English is not that good I don’t know if you already said wich material or stuff you used to let the cape burn like that without hurting yourself
how to insert the flash paper on the fabric, and where do i get the flash paper
How did you use the paper in dress
Can you make Zendeya's met gala Tommy Hilfiger Cinderella gown🥺
In total, how much satin did you use for the red dress and for the white cape?
Lol 😂
😂😊😍
Hi, would it be possible if i made a cape out of flash paper? I'll be wearing a fire resistant outfit and a hat underneath.
I was kinda hoping for the burning hair part
Hi! Very big question, how did you make sure the wrinkly bits of the dress didn't fray or unravel?
Hi! Great question -- cutting the fabric on the bias stops most of the fraying!! The dress also is a deconstructed version of another so it adds to the overall look if it's fraying a bit :)
@@LouiseKatzovitz thank you so much!
That is awesome. Please continue make videos like this. You deserve more followers. 😽
Omg you are too sweet! I am not stopping anytime soon and I have some really fun projects coming!!!!!!!!! Thanks for getting excited about my projects 😊
I can make Cruella Halloween costume for my American girl dolls just like me. But I need to find a dress pattern for them. I have 4 American girl dolls.
Yessss I'd love to see it!!!
@@LouiseKatzovitz Thanks. I'm trying to find one by myself of Cruella red dress in a petite plus size in websites but I do not want buy expensive stuff. I want to buy cheaper ones that are handmade and ready to sell in my hometown in U.S.A from etsy. My measurements are for bust - 46.inch/117.cm, neck - 23.inch/59.cm, waist - 44.inch/112.cm, hips - 44.inch/112.cm, height - 61.inch/155.cm and hallow to the floor - 53.inch/135.cm.
You could definitely wear a dress if you put that anti-fire makeup on and made it out of like fireproof material underneath
I may have to try something in the future! It did let out a ton of heat even just on the miniature, so I'd be pretty nervous about covering myself in fire. Maybe I can enlist a firefighting team and get their feedback lol.
@@LouiseKatzovitz you'd have to wear glasses too for the flash and the light
make the mayon gown please
Hi mam how can we make a dress fire resistant dress won't the satin dress burn if we light it up
There are some fire retardant/resistant materials that could work, but I wouldn't recommend it as it is extremely dangerous 😬
Tá certo mesmo
Thank you!!! ☺️
Won't the fire hurt the person
Ma'am I m from india , kindly tell me which material had you used to manufacture a cape for fire and it also not harm the real model's body
The cape I wore wasn't lit on fire, a small replica was!
I spent 13 mins waiting for a green screen effect
could you give or sell me the doll cape sewing pattern?
I think the fire is fake when i saw the results
Tell that to my smoke detector 😂🔥
I im very curious you got burned at all when u dropped the match
Smoke (😂😅) and mirrors!!
wow wach 11:46 part wach the end
hunger games
yaaaaaaaas! I should really recreate the hunger games fire look :D
