  • After spending day seeing the city and riding the subway, I headed to New York's iconic Grand Central Terminal to catch a Metro-North New Haven Line train to Stamford, CT to spend the night. The next morning, I spent some time on the platforms watching the morning rush hour traffic on the Northeast Corridor. Stamford is Metro-North's second-busiest station after Grand Central and this was obvious from the constant stream of Kawasaki M8 trainsets passing through the station, along with one set of coaches pushed by a GE Genesis P32ACDM from Danbury. Amtrak serves the station as well, with a Norfolk-bound Northeast Regional and two Acelas making stops while I was there. After the second Acela pulled in I hopped aboard for a brisk ride down to Philadelphia, where I got to take a look at the many Avelia Liberty trains being stored there that will be taking over the Acela service eventually. After that I took the Keystone Service to Harrisburg and then drove the rest of the way home, ending a tiring but fun weekend of travel.

Thanks! Yeah it's a cool livery, although I was hoping for a New Haven unit.

Mate, you'd need to spend at least a month in New York to see the sights of railway services. Two days aren't enough, as it can tire you out too quickly. Glad you had fun in any case, but I think you're better off relaxing with the steam engines. I agree it's nice to have a change of railway scenery, yet nothing beats riding up close and personal behind a steam engine.
