Heating and Cooling the Greenhouse | Our Fully Automated Environmental Control System

  • Doug takes us on a mechanical tour of the hydroponic greenhouse and shows all of the heating and cooling systems plus how they are connected into the fully automated iGrow system. We use natural gas heaters, an outdoor wood burner and a water wall for cooling. Doug also shows how he got internet to the head house so we can log in remotely to check the environmentals and the security system. Leave us a comment if you have any questions.

    YES! A build video would be ideal.
    Great video.
    There is something of a head scratcher where you have both a wood-fired heating system, and your own natural gas well on the property. Your Dad is obviously so thoughtful in his engineering that understanding why both systems are installed would be an interesting discussion. Thanks in advance for the coming vids.

      Thank you so much and we will definitely be doing a greenhouse build soon. The issue with the well is it goes down randomly. Sometimes the there are problems with the well head, or it gets clogged. We've gone a whole winter before with the well down, and it was a lot of work heating the place with wood, but we did it.

    Hello from England. I found your site a few weeks ago and am really enjoying the video's. I started growing in hydroponics 6 years ago, outdoor strawberries, tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse in summer, just enough for us and the neighbors with lettuce, rocket, watercress and pea micro green's in the winter. One question is why the wood heat when you have an on farm gas supply? Wood can be a lot of work.

    • @HomegrownPassion

      We are definitely going to make one soon. Wood sure is a lot of work, but the issue is the well can be unreliable. Sometimes there are issues with the well head or it gets blocked up, and we always need heat for the greenhouse

    Wondering why you have a wood burner heating system. You have a natural gas well??? Why not use it instead of sawing, chopping storing firewood and having yo clean the ash left over. I don't understand why.

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  3 роки тому +1

      I wish we didn't need to worry about the wood. It is hard work for sure, but the well can be unreliable. Sometimes there's issues with the well head or it gets blocked up. A few years ago we went all winter without the well working. Gotta have back up in case that happens.

    Did I see a natural gas/oil well on your property?!

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  3 роки тому +1

      Yes you did. It's not the most reliable well in the world, which is why we have the wood burner back up.

    why wouldn't you attach everything with ductwork? instead of just blowing it at another fan.

    • @HomegrownPassion
      @HomegrownPassion  3 роки тому

      Not sure how you would duct work in a greenhouse. We want air flow around all areas of the greenhouse. Using the jet fan to distribute heated and outside air around the greenhouse is a effective way to do that.
