I might be misunderstanding the reaper issue but you can set the plugin (in the io button) to force it to say 14 channels even if the track has more channels than 14.

The plugin does not respond to it in the way it should though.

I'm not sure whether you're better off with Gravitas from Fiedler audio, especially since you can stack Gravitas in the Dolby Atmos Composer, in the Mastering Console or in a multi-channel DAW. The price for StemCell is clearly beyond the financial scope of a hobbyist.

What's the difference between doing this on multiple discrete channels vs. a summed group?

I'll stick to clipping the Ableton limiter by 40db.

Probably designed for catalog production (that's why it was PT only!); this isn't how we mix today natively for immersive experience. It's overpriced, and there are smarter ways to address mix issues.

I would not be that strict in my assessment. I think there are situations in which this plugin can be useful. ;)

So. It saves time (money) and some people will pay for that. What is catalogue production?

Sure there are ways to get almost the same functionality, but is it that expensive? @$169 for an immersive plugin it seems to be in the ballpark of most other immersive capable plugins.
Of course each person has a personal viewpoint of “value”, but for someone in the Post industry it should be ok.

I think if the developer sees your video they will address the issue. Probably.
