You just enriched my life .. (recently came back after 30+ years off and started re-recording my 80s stuff, then hit by a massive stroke 2 years ago and fighting still) 🙂
Nice thanks! I’ve been mixing for over 3 decades and been through all the formats and bought the first CD recorder in Australia and still own a Roland RSS 8048 system with the Panners etc that’s more relevant now than it was when released it seems. I get asked for atmos and cassette tapes and now vinyl again. Maybe CDs and shock horror MD or even DCC will re-emerge :)
I have been working in media studies for quite a while, not only audio. It is actually rare that media technologies disappear completely. They usually always survive in some corner of society.
Hi. Thanks for the videos. I dont know if ive missed a video, but I dont understand how reverb works in Atmos or Ambisonic environments. It seems to me that the reverb plug in would need to be in the decoder because if you decode onto a different speaker array, i assume that it would vary. But i also see you reviewing reverb plug ins and they hall have different features, so that clearly isnt the case. Is reverb typically baked i to a 7.1 bed, and may be slightly lower spatial resolution than the movement of the objects?
There are different schools of thought about this. Usually it is a combination of a multichannel reverb in the bed with additional reverb that is just baked into the objects. You won't hear the lower spatial resolution in the bed for the reverb.
Hope this isn't an out of the ordinary question but, where would be a good place to distribute content made with Dolby Atmos? Say for example I've made a Dolby Atmos Track consisting of Sound Effects and Dialogue for a movie/film/video/content, but publishing said Dolby Atmos Content is more limiting than said done. For example, if I choose UA-cam to upload that would be doable, but it only supports 5.1 and no Dolby Atmos streaming. Understandably Dolby Atmos is probably more suited for music production and for music publishing, but being able to make Dolby Atmos tracks (cheaper than before) for Movie Sound effects is a gamechanger for content creators! If only there was someplace on the web where people can showcase their audio/sound/foley skills to the max.
People are using our Discord to exchange Atmos master files. You’re welcome to join. It’s free. I am not aware of a commercial service although, technically, any service that allows you to sell digital content would work.
Thanks for doing this....but no one really is into this for stuff they stream. I was kind of a big splash with Apple Spatial Audio a few years ago...with their statement about playlisting atoms mixes...but, so far, no real takers. Still it is interesting....
I think it is slowly sneaking into how people listen to audio without them actually realizing that they listen to Atmos. Personalized spatial audio capabilities are in many headphones now.

Thanks for the comment! Keep up the fight!
Thank you for making this video.
You're welcome!

Can this be done in Davinci Resolve? Also a tutorial on doing soundfx in Dolby Atmos would be nice. Thanks
Works in DaVinci as well. But if you are in DaVinci you might want to go with the built in Atmos capabilities (requires studio version though).
Thanks Michael. You covered this so brilliantly. I have a little podcast and would like to try this. 😅
Thanks! Happy to help. 👍

Could you please make a video with Davinci resolve with DAC
I'll put it on my list.
