I have just started taking an interest in Sixty and Me articles...They are so helpful as I found yours to be. One way I budget and keep complete control of my money is by using one credit card. Now many people say "oh I cannot do that". My question is why. I earn 2% on everything I buy. That is better interest than I can earn on a CD. Of course I must pay the card in full upon receipt of the bill which is no different than if I was paying cash. I pay large bill such as insurance and any other large bill that can be paid without a surcharge to use the credit card...I earn at least $1,000 a year...I am 75 and my husband is 87 we have no outstanding debt...People must take control of their money and make it work for them even if it is only a credit card...

Judy, I think the general advice you are hearing about not using credit cards is assuming you are not as disciplined as you are. Many people are not. Paying it off monthly while also benefitting from cash back or mileage point accumulation or some other perk can certainly make sense IF you are diligent about paying it off monthly AND you are not buying more than you would had you paid cash (marketers know there is less pain associated with buying with a credit card so too many people are tempted to overspend). I have also seen credit cards give you an annual tracked summary of budget categories so you can further assess your spending. I think you found what works well for you and your point about folks needing to take control of their money is spot on!
