- Sorry for the volume, the first few entries I totally messed up the mic but I fixed it for the last 7 entries (at 6:39) (also got a new mic since then)--
-UPDATE (12/30/12)-
Some have asked about certain games, most of you have inquired about games I never got the chance to play (Gabriel Knight, Discworld, Toonstruck, etc.) I apologize for not including them, but if I didn't play it I couldn't rate it.
A few other games worth saying something about:
- The Dig - Great setting and characters, tough puzzles 6/10
- A Whispered World - Beautiful animation, annoying voices 5/10
- Deponia - Beautiful Animation, again, annoying voices, terrible characters 5.5/10
- Full Throttle - Classic Lucas, but much too short 6.5/10
- Hugo's Trilogy - Classic but unforgiving, esp. in the wake of Lucas' games 4/10
- King Quest games - Great animation (for the time), unforgiving puzzles 5.5/10
- Yesterday - Creepy and satisfying, over before I knew it - 7/10
- Tales of Monkey Island - Crafty, but not as classy - 5.5/10
-ORIGINAL Description-
I take a gander at my top 15 favorite video game adventures on the computer.
Some of the most popular and respected games of our time are the classic adventure games of the 90's. Companies likes Sierra and Lucas Arts were the pioneers to develop point and click games like Monkey Island and King's Quest. Other companies took notice and turned the adventure genre into the most profitable for the pc. However, the advent of the next gen consoles saw a great decrease in adventure games, and a gradual recession occurred. Recently, however, German publishers have helped bring back the genre. Daedilic Entertainment, Wadjet Eye Games, and Tell Tale (along with Double Fine) have helped usher in a "second coming" of classic computer adventure games. This list commemorates point and click games both new and old. I hope you enjoy this list.

The Curse of Monkey Island is my all-time favourite point-and-click game. The dialogue, the voice acting, the comedy, and the plot make this such a treat to play. :)
I would say DOTT, hot followed by Broken Sword.
Great plots and great dialogues... Back to the iPad and play both again.
Broken Sword 2 Smoking mirror is also one of the best point click adventures.
Remember the underwear? It had no use. It had a heart on it though...lol
Glad to see Sam&Max is, after so many years, still one of the best Clik&Move games.
Respect.
All I know is that the description of Fate of Atlantis sells the game short.
11:38 01 Monkey Island 3 (The Curse of)
10:43 02 Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars
9:53 03 Monkey Island 2 (LeChuck's Revenge)
9:18 04 Day of the Tentacle
8:27 05 A New Beginning
7:35 06 Grim Fandango
6:50 07 Monkey Island 1 (The Secret of)
6:05 08 Gemini Rue Collector's Edition
5:14 09 Sam and Max Hit the Road
4:33 10 Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
3:45 11 Teen Agent
3:00 12 Beneath a Steel Sky
2:05 13 5 Days a Stranger
1:24 14 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
0:30 15 Monkey Island 4 (Escape from)
Congrats for the great video! I can't wait to explore the list, it's just what I was looking for.
Can't believe nobody has mentioned, LOOM...probably my favorite of all-time.
The cliffhanger ending that'll never be resolved 😞
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
It was mentioned in the video. It just didn't make it to the top 15.
Great to see some titles I wasn’t aware of here. Favourites of mine that you missed are Full Throttle, which introduced me to the genre (although I recently completed in one sitting!) and Discworld Noir.
I liked King's Quest 6, where Alexander (formerly Gwydion) wanders through all the islands looking for the way to beat the evil vizier and save his love Cassima.
Nice list dude, I've been missing point and click adventure games and I was glad to learn of more recent games in this genre.
I love Simon The Sorcerer.
IMO: Simon the Sorcerer, Space Quest, Kings Quest, Police Quest, Monkey Island and 5 Days a Stranger...those are the best...mind u i mean the whole series from each of those...not just the individual game. i play loads of others though.
Longest Journey is my absolute favourite. Some of my other ones would be Dreamfall, Syberia, Bladerunner, Myst and Riven.
I loved Longest Journey and detested Dreamfall because that was an action game.
Brilliant video! Looks like I got some games to play.
Nice video! Looking forward to updated list!
awesome reviews! we need to have an adventure game lovers meetup so we can share our memories of these games
Awesome rundown.. I couldn't agree... but you seem to have missed Discworld, these are also great :)
Your choices are pretty spot on with mine as well. I do have to give a special thanks to Day of the Tentacle, as it was the first adventure game I played that brought me to talkie adventure games.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. I've played a few more since this video so there are certainly some re-arranging I would do.
Nice list man! I hope you have played Gabriel Knight: Sins Of The Fathers and The Dagger Of Amon Ra too.
I enjoyed watching this list! Thank you fir making this video! My favourite adventure games are:
1. Sierra's Lost Secret of the Rainforest
2. Sierra's King's Quest games
3. Grundislav Games' Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator games
4. Broken Sword series
5. Myths of the World - Point and click adventure games by Eipix Games
6. Old Man's Journey. Gorgeous art, stunning music and a touching story.
Absolutely incredible video mate! Great job. Great to see someone who holds my views about the Monkey Island series. Mainly about the Curse of Monkey Island. Truly a revolutionary game!!! A game you simply MUST play. Toonstruck!
A personal favorite of mine.... Discworld and Discworld 2. mostly for the memories and Eric Idle's voice acting, sublime
Never heard of 'A New Beginning' before. So thank you.
I completely agree with your #1 choice. It has always been my favourite since it was released.
Have just played Broken Sword 5 and that is stunning but "Curse of Monkey Island" is still my fave!
Thanks for your compilation - I shall check out "A New Beginning"
Thanks Guybrush!!! I do miss these games! I have most of them, but gonna go download the rest! I miss the good ol fashioned adventure games where one had to use their brain! :)
Awesome list!
Man that list is so perfect, I would put some in different order but this is a matter of personal opinion after. Anyways when I saw the curse of monkey island as the number 1, I couldn't stop myself from having a moment of joy as I would also put this game as number one, and especially because I started to get a lot of interest in adventure games playing this particular one. good list again
Nice vid. Thanks for sharing.
I personally prefer Monkey Island 1 & 2. Monkey Island 3 was great too but not as original. I agree with Monkey Island 4. Not a bad game at all but clearly behind its predecessors. To be honest, it shouldn't be on the list.
Loom is one of my all-time favorites. Beautiful setting, innovative input control and a touching story. Or Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken, Legend of Kyrandia, Discworld, Simon the Sorcerer, etc.
Runaway a road adventure is one of my favorites. And broken sword is my #1
Awesome. You had a nice voice. Glad to see some of my favorite games in there, especially DotT :D
It's funny how videos like that aren't getting older because there are no longer games like that except some indie titles.
The Teen Agent is hilarious, we kept laughing all the way through when we first played it at school :)
WOW i played this game Teen Agent more than 20 years ago and didn't think about it again until TODAY from this video!!! i had good memories with it
I watched this video many years ago so nostalgic.
Nice list, there's a few there I need to try. Some of my favourites were Lure of the tempress, Loom, Police quest 1,2 and 3, Leisure suit Larry 1,2 and 3, Operation stealth, cruise for a corpse, Les manly in search for the king
Great list! Of course rating games has a great deal of personal feelings toward the games (e.g., Monkey Island 3 would not even be part of the list for me, which would have Monkey Island 1 as number 1 ;)). But there are many other great ones that I'd like to suggest: Simon the Sorcerer, the Space Quest series, King's Quest, Quest for Glory, Lure of Temptress, Zack McKracken, Maniac Mansion (with the highest replay value of any point and click I've ever played!). But anyway, congrats for the great list! It's actually quite hard to decide on an order for such amazing games :)
I was a bit surprised to not see any Sierra games considering how prominent they were to the point and click scene. You ever played the Space Quest, Quest for Glory, Police Quest, or Leisure Suit Larry games? I saw King's Quest mentioned in your comments, but not sure if you played the later games in the series, namely 5-7? The puzzles were much better in 5-7 than in 1-4.
Agreed
Isnt Day of tentacle a Sierra's game?
@@DazedLuc No, it was made by Lucas Arts.
very nice compilation. havent played a few in between but can name better than some of them on the list like Full Throttle, Gabriel Knight, longest journey, Siberia, deponia , the dig (most people like it whereas i didnt really enjoy it), toonstruck, neverhood, and some others that i cant really recall. But one thing is for sure Monkey Island 3 is the best game ever.
Awesome gonna check these out
I saw the next big thing, but didn't know it was a remake. so cool!
Agree with you choices of Day of the Tentacle, Broken Sword, Monkey Island and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Will have to remember and check out the other games you mentioned that I haven't yet played. A very informative and straight forward list, thank you!
Glad to see Broken Sword in the list. Part 2 should've been in there too though.
I agreed with just about all of the choices you included that I had played, so I decided to trust your judgement and download 5 Days A Stranger. And while I certainly wouldn't put it in my top 15, I did have a fun time with it, so thanks :)
Sweet! It is a fantastic game, multiple endings, real time adventure, great atmosphere. Let me know when the updated list is up.
Really glad I can help you with that. Yahtzee has quite a few games that stem from 5 days, make sure to check the rest of the series out! :)
I hope someone will bring back this genre
Excellent list!
I love Beneath a Steel Sky and Broken Sword too!
So good!
No Simon the sorcerer? It was a good game.
Yeah well there isint any discworld games either
Yeah, Simon The Sorcerer is an wonderful adventure
Does anyone remember an old pc game with a chinese bear named Daxter, Baxter, Dexter, or whatever it was and some details I can think of are. Finding things in the dark and with a metal detector. Also he was riding a motorcycle (I think), karate chopping wood and there being fireflies around him. Also I think there were 2 or 3 set of stairs when it was raining.
Maniac Mansion and Zac McKracken are above all on this list.
I was at number 2 thinking are you not going to mention the Curse of Monkey island at all and then Bam!!! Numero Uno!! Thank goodness. I love that game!!!
Brings back some memories.. I was trying to find the name of the game I played as a child & just couldn't figure it out.. The secret of monkey island was my favourite of all time.. Thank you..
I agree! One of the most fascinating adventure games experiences- A new beginning!
Good list. Some in here I've never played.
I was waiting for Full Throttle but in hindsight, I agree that it was such a short game. My bias is towards one of my very first adventure games: Return to Zork
Hey, thanks man. I really appreciate your kind words. This gives me hope for humanity. The more I think about this honest words of kindness, I think, 'Wow, that is so nice of him to come on here, and tell me what he thinks of the video.' A lot of people don't do that-- but you, you're better than everyone else. I respect that, a lot.
I love this list!
This might not be everyone's cup of tea but an old game called "Blackstar Agent Of Justice" was one of my first point and click games. The thing that's so mind-blowing is it was made by a SINGLE person.
Fun to see i've actually played most of those great games, as i love adventure games because they are not only fun but challenging, in order to keep advancing you need to be creative in finding solutions to the puzzles and problems you face.
I would also mention Full throttle, The dig, Syberia (beautiful game), and the never finished serie of DREAM FALL THE LONGEST JOURNEY!
I totally agree with ur list and was waiting till the end when u named monkey Island 3. Although for me i would pick from Fandango (Manny Manny cavalera,, got no skin, got no hearaa) as number 2;)
Your list is pretty similar to mine, especially regarding curse of monkey island of course, I just knew that it was going to be taking the first spot watching the follow ups :) Full throttle, Blade Runner, LSL7 and KQ7 would have made my list too though - even if that meant extending it.
You should definitly try Harvay's new Eyes! It's one of my all time favourits when it comes to P&C games!
Great choices! Some of my top 10 also. :)
My favorite video game is Broken Sword the Shadow of Templars.
good video.
Like
Atlantis the Lost tales is my first and favorite game in the universe, but the Curse of Monkey Island is inches away of being 1.1 favorite. Some games are just classics and I can't stop replaying them.
Agreed
Thank you for this!
I would definitely add the simon the sorcerer, loom, legends of kyrandia, mysts, the amerzone, discworlds, king's quests, gobliins and so...damn that was the golden age of games!!! Miss them all!
super great video!! Y'all should also check out The Longest Journey, Torin's Passage, Full Throttle and The Dig as well.
hey man, thank's for your video. i enjoyed your rankings and i gotta tell you i think just the same about the games i played, too. the first 3 monkey island games and day of the tentacle still belong to my all time favourites since my childhood.
but, why i am writing to you is because i want to advise some wonderful adventure games by daedalic entertainment, that you really should try:
it's the "edna & harvey" games. the box of the first game (in germany it's called "Edna bricht aus") says: "from those guys, who love monkey island" - and they don't promise to much. it's a hilarious game about a girl named edna and her plush toy harvey who try to break out of a lunatic asylum.
and you can combine nearly everything in this game without hearing the same 5-6 "i can't do this"-phrases over and over again like in other adventures.
TRY IT, YOU WILL LOVE IT!
(and the second one is great, too^^)
Yes!
Good to see another fan.
Its kinda hard though but oh so funny.
Baldrick is in it also
you missed the toonstruck!!!!!, one the most - as i can say even the most - beautiful games, filled up with tons of damn good humor.
top answer for curse of monkey island i bloody love that franchis , the broken sword games are more my missus choice but still winners , a bit gutted u didnt give a shout out to blazing dragons ( game by some of the monty python crew) but it is ure choices at the end of the day, was well worth the watch cheers, ill be keepin my eyes open for a few of the titles ive yet to play so thanks again for the heads up. j
True. Happy you included Sam & Max through.
nice video man. you should try Primordia and Resonance if you haven't by now, two recent point n click that are awesome \m/
Nice work Sir
A good list; Lure of the Temptress could've made mine, as well as some old Sierra games - like one of the Space Quests or the Police Quest, but I suppose they have more nostalgia value for me now than anything else, being the adventure games I started out with.
a new beginning ist abolute AWESOME !!!!!
Decent list, but missing Discworld Noir, The Longest Journey, Syberia
nice list I'd also like to mention the longest journey. rly good game.
I agree with your choices and the curse of monkey island is definitely my number one choice although the Kings Quest series was epic especially number seven and the goblins quest series. Give them a go :)
Have you played Sanitarium or Gabriel Knight - Sins of the fathers?? Awesome games...
What can you tell me about...voodoo?
Awesome!
Nice list. I have downloaded sam and max hit the road. I haven' t played it but I always wanted to. Thanks for reminding me
Deponia series is my favourite, I agree that Daedalic knows how to make adventure games.
ja deponia ist absolut super, hab alle gespielt und ich liebe die Dialoge ..
Thanks for the tip, love Wadjet eye games
Teenagent was a game that got me into point'n'click games, such a gem, but short. Also, Eksperyment Delfin.
I have almost all the games on this list except for a few of them. Two of my favorite point and click games not mentioned are the Edna and Harvey games, the second one being much better than the first. Still they are fantastic and have great humor.
Glad to see Monkey Island 3 at the top :). Was expecting to see Machinarium somewhere in there though...
I loved Monkey island music with adlib card.
Fun to see what you liked and there by be introduced to unknown games.I couldn't keep a list Down to 15;) I played all the Monkey Island games with my daughter and we played Broken Sword too. There are some games that no one ever mentions and I Wonder if that is because no one played them or they just didn't like them and they are not amongst the games offered a GOG which is a shame. Except for the game that came with the computer (KKQ 7), our first game was Hook. But with only 4mb of ram back then we were never able to finish it. When I finally did see the ending I was surprised at how short the game really was and we had been so close to the ending.None mention the game The Phantom which was a great game and one named Touché. Other games no one mentions are Shivers and Shivers 2. And there is from Sierra Lost in time. And how about the one called Lighthouse. So many games that deserve some credit I think. And there was that game with Malcom McDowel in Egypt I think it was called the Tomb of the Phareo.Back then you could buy a diskette with the start of a game and so if you wanted more you had to buy the Whole game. Only problem was that I was never able to get the Whole game in any of these cases living in Scandinavia. One was the Munsters (the tv serie) game and there was also one I don't recall the name where you walk around these 4 rooms and collect some keys in a Castle. My favorites were Sierra games and I still buy Jane Jensen when I can get a new one. I still have all my old games but buy them Again online in Version I can play and I buy any half good game I can find as long as it is point and click and adventure. There was long ago a Danish game you for good reasons never played but I think you might have liked it because it was like no other. It was called Blackout. There is one guy that has 3 videos on here showing part of the game but since it is so old getting it to Work now is impossible it seems. You wake up in a room with a dead girl and blood all over the bed. You are schizoprenic and don't know what has happened. The inviroment is really different I think and you have people that talks to you and since it's an old game they talk as they did then. Yes people do change the way they talk:) But you really get the feeling of how it must be in such a situation.I could talk about great games for hours because there are so many;) And thankfully they are finally making Adventure games Again so us who are not into killing others on screen can also have some fun:)
Almost perfect list by my taste, My top 3 are definately Broken Sword 1, Monkey Island 2 and Black Mirror. You should try that one, its original voice acting is Czech, which is brilliantly done, not sure about the quality of English voices, though. But the story is up there with the best..... I was never a fan of Grim Fandango, maybe because I like my adventure games in 2d :) and thanks for introducing me to 5 days a stranger, will check it out.
The legend of Kyrandia is kinda nice as well, loved Hand of Fate when I was a kid. The Dig is also wonderfull
Wow. I've never heard of either of those. I'll check them out.
Hey, if you loved "Gemini Rue" you will absolutely love "Resonance" from Wadjet Eye Games... they even have a new game out now called "Primordia", but I think "Resonance" and "Gemini Rue" are their best games so far. Thanks for the video, I'm spending Christmas Eve on point-and-click adventures :)
I missed Gabriel Knight and Full Throttle, anyway cool list ;)
Thanks for this video
:-)
Perfect number 1 choice!
Das ist sehr gut!
A track from the soundtrack of Gemini Rue called "Sayuri"
One of the best things about Gemini Rue is the soundtrack.
Ohh the memories in the top 20 ! :-)
well that certanlly made my day, even though he said he isnt planing to make another one,a man can still dream :D
