Darth Chong Lewis is actually undergoing metal leg prosthetic replacement surgery in a month or two, he references it around 46:55. He had his original legs removed recently for the upcoming operation.
Super good video to put on the overhead monitor while I work. Makes hours and hours of machine code debugging, feel like slightly fewer hours of machine code debugging. I seriously hate my job, but at least the video was really good!
I initially leave it on in the background while playing games, but I keep minimizing my game and coming back to the chat because I'm actually really interested in hearing more about 40K...
My parents bought me a box set after I nagged them as a kid for like a week about 40k. We drove our way into the city and arrived at the games workshop where there were actually 2 king nerds in charge. I remember one of them was an arse; he was the elitist bugger that wasn't happy with children playing his beloved game at all if I had to guess. The other one was the nicest guy. He showed us around the shop, showed us the best sets and got me set up with my first army. (Space marines 4 life) Unfortunately, the paints themselves were a bit too pricy for my parents. So imagine my surprise when the benevolent king nerd winked and dropped 3 paint pots and a brush in my bag. Made my whole year right there. :)
The main reason they had to change paint names was because they switched paint manufacturer, the old company kept all the names, however they still produce the spray paint hence why that is still Chaos Black
Man I've just been painting a long time and LOVE painting And painting isn't about how good it is,it's about how much you put into it,and the pride you feel when you complete a model, what's important is you feeling proud of the art you make when you pick up the brush and pour your soul out into it,as each painted model is a piece of yourself,so don't worry how others think of it,all that matters is that you're happy with it and you love the model you paint.just gotta love the art, and love the soul you put into it,so sit back, relax, get out the paints, put on some tunes or whatever you want to listen to,and have a damn good time. Good luck, and good painting everybody
Finally, we're getting a Warhammer series. This video was fantastic, and I can't wait for more of the series. I'm also very excited to see/hear that so many people joined in for it.
The thing I dig about the Tau is (in the lore) they play the role that humans normally take in other universes. They're basically the Star Trek Federation.
funny/painful story about warhammer models, i was terrible at putting them together and painting them(i was like 7-8 when i started) so one of the guys that worked at games workshop decided to help me out for a few hours in the shop and teach me how to assemble and paint them, first thing he showed me was "the best way to get glue on the little brush in the glue pot is to flick the pot up and it coats the brush" but he didn't realize that i had already taken the lid off and the brush/lid was just sat on top of the bottle not screwed on, he flicked the bottle, the brush flew out, hit him in the eye (it was the glue for metal figures not plastic figures by the way) and get had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance. And i never saw him there again... I'm still shit at making/ painting figures.
I've been thinking about getting into warhammer for a while now but I was so worried about the painting process. Props to Tom and the guys who gave a lot of good pointers. There were some really cool stories that make me want to really play the game (:
It's amazing how after years of watching these guys, I've actually come to enjoy a video about 4 nerds painting tiny toy models about a game that I know nothing about.
@Tom @35:00. The Tau were cut off from the Imperium by a warpstorm for like, 5,000 years or something and when the warpstorm abated, the Tau had advanced to a a technological level way beyond that of the Imperium.
Love this ^^ They were spot on with how good the world they built is, so many cool stories are possible without messing with each other because of how vast the setting is.
I've never played Warhammer and know almost nothing about it, and even still I found this to be so nice. Just like a chill hangout, almost podcast-y but with video. I'd love to see more of these "paint and chill" videos.
Toms tau canon is slightly off. The sector that was to be colonised by the imperium was cut off by a warpstorm for like a thousand years. In that time the tau evolved super quick to medieval level, before almost wiping themselves out in an orgy of tribal violence. This is the state the Eldar then found them in, and realised that the tau are almost immune to the powers and corruption of the warp and realised they could be a useful tool. So they genetically modified a few tau to have a pheremone gland from a species of space bee (as stupid as it sounds this was the original canon), and some kind of way to control them (its never mentioned how). They then dropped the modified tau on to the tau homeworld (tau'n) and within a short time they were a peaceful race dedicated to the idea of following the greater good preached by a new caste in their society called the ethereals that seemed to have complete control of tau society. Cut to a thousand years later when the tau have a small star empire and some of the most high tech gear in the universe. Oh and the character Commander Farsight that they mentioned, is a tau commander that lost all his armies ethereals and his army went a bit feral without their control.
Ecthelon Evendil it was from a book published by the black library called Xenology. It was a story about a magos biologis researcher in a secret lab and examines the biology and origins of a bunch of 40k races.
"This is the state the Eldar then found them in, and realised that the tau are almost immune to the powers and corruption of the warp and realised they could be a useful tool. So they genetically modified a few tau to have a pheremone gland from a species of space bee (as stupid as it sounds this was the original canon)" Eldar intervention with Tau evolution is fan theory, not canon.
Xenology is written in universe by the Imperium, it's often humourously wrong about races. Attributing the success of the Tau to Eldar trickery sounds exactly like what the Inquisition would do.
As someone who has recently started looking into Warhammer and tabletop wargames in general, the tip about Vellejo paints is so helpful. I remember citidel paints being expensive years ago when I did do some model painting.
I love all of the Yogscast, but this video really drives home how much Ben and Tom are my absolute all-time favourites. I finally understand those grandmas watching soap operas and believing they are actually friends with the characters.
I'm just about to start painting a huge ork army. More of these would be perfect to have on while I was painting. I've been catching your hints at this too, and I am happy to finally have it out. Thanks you guys.
I am looking forward to this more than finishing my degree next year. My two favourite things coming together finally, a match made in heaven. I can't even really express my joy at this turn of events
Lewis is like "When I was a kid, I couldn't afford all these super expensive models. Now, I am the founder of a successful 30-person company and I can just about afford it"
Definitely keep this up. I love table top games and honestly you guys introduce me to so many amazing games via videos like these. Plus loving the chill vibe of this video.
It sucks because before EA (in my world) there was GW. Imagine, they are using the same models from 97 and are charging triple the price and yet production costs have all gone down. Best is when you hold one of the old Codex and look through it and realize all the greatest stuff has been replaced for worse stuff at a higher cost, even the paper.
This is actually so entertaining. I've never played warhammer or painted models or anything, but this was almost podcast material and a bit of nice gentle content that was just so engaging. 10/10 cannot wait for more, and I really don't care if you don't end up playing!
This was nice, i like the character building and background that is developing, hopefully we get to see the battlefield get built like maybe on one of toms super chill episodes
Lewis is actually legless
Oh god why have you done this to me
I saw that from beginning and I couldn't stop checking if he was gonna move his legs.
thanks legless lewis ruiner of good things
A second ago I was super depressed, but this comment nearly killed me. Thanks, you're a legend.
One of his legs is down at 13:24
If you watched games night for a long time you would know he is fakeing becouse he has all three of his legs on other vids.
XD
GW is now so expensive Lewis had to sell his legs.
[Insert clip from 11:17 here]
Oh God!
13:24 One leg spotted
Darth Chong Lewis is actually undergoing metal leg prosthetic replacement surgery in a month or two, he references it around 46:55. He had his original legs removed recently for the upcoming operation.
If GW is too expensive for you, maybe you should get a job to afford a hobby.
Didn't realise how much I wanted this video
Yes! A thousand times yes! More video's like this!
You mean... a fourty thousand times yes? Eyy?
By Sigmar, YES!
Super good video to put on the overhead monitor while I work.
Makes hours and hours of machine code debugging, feel like slightly fewer hours of machine code debugging. I seriously hate my job, but at least the video was really good!
You mean thousand sons yes?
This is so great. I love the idle chat.
then you will love toms channel then
I initially leave it on in the background while playing games, but I keep minimizing my game and coming back to the chat because I'm actually really interested in hearing more about 40K...
"You don't realize until you've spayed it everywhere" - Lewis Brindley - 2017
would genuinely be happy with a series of just the painting.

Casual podcasting yogscast, oh hell yeah, oh god, and it's almost December...
The main reason they had to change paint names was because they switched paint manufacturer, the old company kept all the names, however they still produce the spray paint hence why that is still Chaos Black
I am going to watch the fuck out of every single one of these videos. Tom and Ben make me moist when it comes to Warhammer, lol
Brian Williams Haha couldn't of put it better myself
sadly the next one doesnt have tom and ben
who doesn't get moist when they think of tom
I can't wait for this! Fuckin Yogscast is the best, from video games to board games to D&D and now to tabletop.
Man I've just been painting a long time and LOVE painting
And painting isn't about how good it is,it's about how much you put into it,and the pride you feel when you complete a model, what's important is you feeling proud of the art you make when you pick up the brush and pour your soul out into it,as each painted model is a piece of yourself,so don't worry how others think of it,all that matters is that you're happy with it and you love the model you paint.just gotta love the art, and love the soul you put into it,so sit back, relax, get out the paints, put on some tunes or whatever you want to listen to,and have a damn good time.
Good luck,and good painting everybody
Also, imperial guard are the best army
Yessss
I like it
This is like a chill podcast, smooth cruising, lovely to listen to in the background.
Finally, we're getting a Warhammer series. This video was fantastic, and I can't wait for more of the series. I'm also very excited to see/hear that so many people joined in for it.

I'm still shit at making/ painting figures.
MrTeamTactical You killed him!!
well alteast he's not the giant i put together and used the wrong glue, burning a hole in his belly lol
MrTeamTactical lol
This is the saddest story i've read all week lol
Cudos to you man, i started warhammer around the same age, oh those 7th ed blues.
Will there be a Christmas day for Warhammer ? Would be so much fun!
Slaaneshmas
this needs to be upvoted so much
Emperors day, I believe
WOOOOO! Im so hyped to watch this!!
It's like a podcast but with art. 10/10 oh fuuuuuuck
remember the yogpod introducing the brand new yogart :P
I've been thinking about getting into warhammer for a while now but I was so worried about the painting process. Props to Tom and the guys who gave a lot of good pointers. There were some really cool stories that make me want to really play the game (:
I was worried about painting then i saw that they could paint. if they can paint so can I
It's amazing how after years of watching these guys, I've actually come to enjoy a video about 4 nerds painting tiny toy models about a game that I know nothing about.
@Tom @35:00. The Tau were cut off from the Imperium by a warpstorm for like, 5,000 years or something and when the warpstorm abated, the Tau had advanced to a a technological level way beyond that of the Imperium.
Also, warhammer 40k and fantasy don't take place in the same universe, games workshop have explicitly stated this.
Love this ^^ They were spot on with how good the world they built is, so many cool stories are possible without messing with each other because of how vast the setting is.
Today on *the joy of painting*....
wait and this is so good cause I just watched the Deadpool bob ross teaser just before this
make sure your canvas is nice and whet
We're gonna paint a few little happy trees
"Orange for the orange bits, and silver for chrome!" -Ancient, totally unfamiliar Necron Painter Motto
I've never played Warhammer and know almost nothing about it, and even still I found this to be so nice. Just like a chill hangout, almost podcast-y but with video. I'd love to see more of these "paint and chill" videos.
If you were wondering Lewis was in a tragic accident which led to his legs being removed.
WOOP WOOP das the sound of Tau police
Lewis's car key joke actually helped me understand what Ben was saying. I thought he was saying car key and not khaki.
Came back to your channel just for warhammer. Keep it up and stay faithful to the Emperor!
YES
I honestly love this format with no editing. More from this series please
BEN'S BEARD NOOOOOOOOO!
Cameron Hart think this might be from earlier
his beard pu him on my top 5 hottest mans list
It is probably a very old video since they have been talking about this for a very long time like almost a year now.
This is pre-recorded - The walls of that room has brick wallpaper now and have done for quite a while.
ah good
This is one of the best VODs I've ever watched.
I could watch this all day
As someone that has just ordered a ton of miniature games and plays armada, these videos on painting couldn't have come at a better time.
Good god my body is ready
If you guys ever want to take guests on this format I would be there in a fucking heartbeat. I will literally start a new army for this series
Ah nice to see ya Simon
Perfect video to listen to and paint my own models at the same time. More of this please guys!
Oh shit. I forgot sjin was still in the yogscast during this.
I adore this, so relaxed and nice. Please have more relaxed stuff like this!

xenology's canon is dubious, pretty sure it's even a heretical tome now.
As someone who has recently started looking into Warhammer and tabletop wargames in general, the tip about Vellejo paints is so helpful. I remember citidel paints being expensive years ago when I did do some model painting.
YESSSSS FINALLY THE 40K CONTENT TOM HAS BEEN PROMISING I'M SO HAPPY MOAAARR!
Duncan playing space wolves sounds like the most majestic thing that has ever existed
I love all of the Yogscast, but this video really drives home how much Ben and Tom are my absolute all-time favourites. I finally understand those grandmas watching soap operas and believing they are actually friends with the characters.
This was super rambly and chill, sort of like a podcast with some interesting models thrown in. I love it.
Been waiting so long for this i can't wait till there's more
This has made me so happy, been so long since ive done warhammer, but you guys have made me want to start painting again.. thanks guys!
Girlfriend of 2 years just broke up with me. This is exactly what i needed. Thank you Yogscast.
dethmonky3193 same here man. May you move on with peace and love in your heart and find the one who loves you for who you are.
Hell yes, more 40k videos. Also love the old school paint talk, good old Bad Moon Yellow,, one of the best yellows in paint I have seen.
Once you notice that Lewis' legs are missing, you can't unsee it
I'm just about to start painting a huge ork army. More of these would be perfect to have on while I was painting. I've been catching your hints at this too, and I am happy to finally have it out. Thanks you guys.
Am I in heaven?
I'm loving this. 100 years of painting figures!
I think I'm the only one still watching this four years later, and I'm still disappointed that theres only two painting episode
Same...
Bought my first ever minis today, this couldn’t have come at a better time 😄
I understand the drying out thing
I'm very pleased that this video exists. This chill painting session is enjoyably relaxing to watch. Like a very informal podcast.
When is this from?, they mentioned something like this a while back.
Several months at the least because Ben does not have a beard and now he has and he got the beard a couple of months ago
This is awesome when they are laid back like this. Basically a podcast, i love it.
For the Empruh, Bruvas!
Just finishing off the last if my 1500pt death guard today, rewatching these videos in background is gonna be a good day
This should be a podcast
This uncut format is fantastic, I'm glad you decided to do it with something as great as 40k too!
MMMH daddy tom with his unbuttoned shirt
this comment is my mind EVERYTIME I watch a video with tom in it
I am looking forward to this more than finishing my degree next year. My two favourite things coming together finally, a match made in heaven. I can't even really express my joy at this turn of events
gw paints are fucking great now
This works pretty well as a podcast to listen to in the background. More please!
Can we get a lesson from Tom on his tips and tricks? That would be awesome
I'm a fan of 40k, and am really looking forward to the continuation of this series!
Lewis is like "When I was a kid, I couldn't afford all these super expensive models. Now, I am the founder of a successful 30-person company and I can just about afford it"
I love the idea that the new office is so convenient that they can just whip up a new recording setup in a room to do this kind of thing.
Damn right it's too expensive for kids. It's taken me four years to amass a 5,000 point army.
Shitballs, thats actually pretty quick, I'm at 2500 points after 3 years
What do you play? How dedicated are you to the hobby? Not judging, just asking.
Definitely keep this up. I love table top games and honestly you guys introduce me to so many amazing games via videos like these. Plus loving the chill vibe of this video.
Cant wait to see sjin play the Tau lmfao
Alas, we never got to see them....
I've been waiting so long for some miniature /warhammer stuff. So happy to see the yogs getting into it
It sucks because before EA (in my world) there was GW. Imagine, they are using the same models from 97 and are charging triple the price and yet production costs have all gone down. Best is when you hold one of the old Codex and look through it and realize all the greatest stuff has been replaced for worse stuff at a higher cost, even the paper.
Wow Lewis I just got into warhammer last month and necrons looked so good and I even ended up painting mine exactly the same as you!
Is Tom the new Rob Ross of miniature painting? Or is Rob Ross the old Tom of oil painting?
Don't drink and comment people. :D
He is the Bob Ross of the group, but the hair is on his chest instead.
I thought Tom was a clone.
More of these please. A thousand times yes. As long as you guys are into it of course!
FOR THE EMPEROR
This is actually so entertaining. I've never played warhammer or painted models or anything, but this was almost podcast material and a bit of nice gentle content that was just so engaging. 10/10 cannot wait for more, and I really don't care if you don't end up playing!
This should be a stream
god i love these guys. they are all wonderful people with unique personalities. LOVE THEM!
oh fuuuuuuuck
so looking forward to the battle vids, so glad to see you guys doing something you love
Lewis's tale of the citadel paints rings too true to home :(
This was nice, i like the character building and background that is developing, hopefully we get to see the battlefield get built like maybe on one of toms super chill episodes
Of course Sjin collects Tau
And of course Tom plays cannon fodder Astra Militarum
He's trolling for the Greater Good. :p
yes! this is awesome! I was actually on the fence about starting wh40k, so it's cool to see some of my favorite dudes working on it!
Bit standard but i prefer necrons with green highlights instead of orange i think
Loving the rambling tone of this
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek DO MORE NOW I WILL PAINT WITH WARHAMMER 40K BEST WARHAMMET
i am so excited for this, i havnt played for a while but i feel like this may reignite my love for the game
so who is lewis's dad?
Josiah Barnes Sjin...
Cool thx man
These are so cozy 💜
Sjins appropriating Canadian culture again.
They let him get away with it. It'd be rude to point it out.
The High Architect As a Canucks fan I am okay with this
Can you blame him? Canadia is such an exotic place.
he's a weeaEy?
Sjin must be a fan of the step sibling fuckers
This is so great. Just recently got back into Warhammer. Would love this as a podcast series or something.
