Of worthy note is that one of Socrates's students was a lovely chap called Xenophon, who led 10,000 Greek Hoplites through the entire Persian Empire whilst under constant attack and outnumbered by a few million men. It's a long and hilarious story starting with Xenophon not even supposed to be there - and his last contact with Socrates was Socrates berating him for asking the oracle "when should I go" instead of "should I go," with Socrates knowing Xenophon was cheating the gods. Must've been really sad arriving home only to find Socrates was dead.
Even funnier is that Socrates taught Plato, and Plato taught Aristotle - whose student Alexander traced the footsteps of Xenophon, leading his armies throughout Persia and the known world.

Alcibiades literally ruined everything. That's pretty impressive.
All because he was hot. This doesn't even get into Alcibiades sleeping with the spartan kings wife and the Persians kings wife.
Something to keep in mind is that nearly all records of Alcibiades are from people who hated him.
And they made him sound that damn impressive, which makes you wonder just how much more amazing he was in reality.
Well, Plato too, and he was his cousin.
Then again not getting well paid jobs and stigmatized due to his relations might sour his opinion.
Alcibiades faced the equivalent of Athenian special forces in gold armor rather than run for the rest of his life. Also, he slept with a ton of kings wives and did some other amazing stunts.
Not enough channels use Age of Mythology music. Seriously, awesome soundtrack.
It's cool to finally get to learn some of this stuff! Most of the stuff I learned about this time period would have been taught to me before I had an interest in history so I probably wasn't paying attention at the time.

In my 9th grade history class a cult was formed around my teacher and she joked that my classmates parents where going to acuse her of Corrupting the Youth and force her to drink hemlock.
Imagine my shock, when parents don’t want to see their children pulled into a “cult” focused around some midwit who manipulates 15 year olds.

Fun fact. Sophistry was the dominant philosophy in every society before collapse. It's seen as a sign of intellectual stagnation that results in eventual collapse of society. It happened with the Bronze Age Collapse. The Han collapse in China. The Indus Valley civilization collapse in India. And the start of the dark ages at the time of the Western Roman Empire's collapse.
Sophism becoming more prominent again. Could signal that society is once again stagnating intellectually and we might be in for a collapse in a couple of centuries if it continues.

Hey, I love your history videos, but it seems they don't get much views. Why don't you make your gaming videos anymore?
I had been wanting to start making history/humanities videos for a while, and a good opportunity presented itself after I finished making the EvE Online video because that's when I ran out of games I wanted to cover.
By the way, the relative viewership is deceptive. The earlier gaming videos got their tens (and sometimes hundreds) of thousands of views over the course of months and years. The history/humanities videos are still young. Besides, the more I make these videos, the larger their fanbase will become -> which means faster growth of the fan-base -> which means a larger fanbase -> which will create a positive cycle. That's one of the key reasons the gaming videos are doing so well now. We just have to recreate that for the history/humanities videos, which you can help by sharing them.

Hey idk if you still do anything Vic2 related, but if you do, can you make a guide to an imperialistic/colonial USA? I've been thinking about starting a game with that mindset but I want a good direction to head towards. (Also idk if this would change the guide but I also plan on converting the save to HOI4 when completed.) It would be base vic2 with Heart of Darkness and A House Divided.

Fun fact: Socrates and other philosophers believed in one concrete truth, meaning that experimentation and new ideas in Greece were pushed aside (including industrialization).
I don't necessarily agree with that, at least for Socrates as presented in this video. He said there was truth, but that he didn't know what it was. So that would lead to more experimentation if you followed his logic.

Well the sophists seem to have a good point on that reason doesn’t always mean the truth. And we truly don’t know if this world is real for all things like considered we can live in a simulation as much if you live in gods hands we truly don’t know and if you read about the sophistic they discovered much of the true world today. As if you look at philosophers of Athens I would say they are mostly more wrong then right only look at Aristotle and Platon
