Czech here, few notions, 1. Legions were created from Czechoslovaks minorites that already lived on Russians lands before the war started. Main manpower came from POWs later on as there was about 130k legionaries in Russia, ~80k in France and perhaps ~30k on Italian front, total, on the end of the war. Myths like entire regiments marching to Russians to switch a side are simply legends, as most noted 28th regiment I believe, was simply lost in Russian wilderness and almost decimated, before they found way back to Austrian lines, where there were reorganized and fought in k.u.k. army till war ended. 3. Czecho-Slovakians where really hardcore man back then you have to realize that they didn't have place in the world and they had to pick fights and find ways how to secure at least something for them.
Well funny thing is that their original plan was to go through Murmansk but arkhangelsk but due to German submarine still around the north sea so their next best chance is going through Vladivostok lel and go from the US or India to reach europ
My great great grandfather was part of the czechoslovak legion, I don’t know much about him though :( My family also gets monthly magazines titled “legionáři” (legionaires), surprised no one mentioned this yet
You know, this reminds of that Battlefield 2042 trailer tagline. "War is the only way Home." Seeing that the Czechoslovak Legion had to fight their way to Vladivostok to get back home.
Same here, I remember in history class about ww1 only mention about Legions were: ...yeah we fought on russian side..... THIS IS SO COOL WHY THEY DIDNT TEACH US THIS
This is where Slovaks took a part in creating the Czechoslovak republic. The whole existence of these legions made allies to recognize the newborn state. And in fact, the father of the legions was Milan Rastislav Stefanik. There were three main people standing behind the effort of recognizing the republic. The well-known are Masaryk and Benes. The third one is Stefanik. Masaryk neither Benes had contacts within the allies, It was Stefanik who opened them the door into high diplomatic circles, especially among the French. After the war had broken, He fought for France. He was a pilot because due to his lack of physique and health He could not fight in trenches. And not like today, the planes were considered like something where You had to be like captain america. Against all the odds He became a hell of a fighting pilot.
Holy shit! I know our Legions fought in ww1, but I never knew about this :D Holy shit we are awesome :DDDD Also our national anthem at the end of video, much love man

Procestoval jsem skoro celou Evropu ale nikde jsem nepotkal horší lidi než na Slovensku..
@@bombabombovic3721 🤨 Sorry bro, ale musím nesouhlasit ! 🙂

Its great to see videos from foreign youtubers talking about our countries. Czechia and Slovakia. Great job, keep going. 💪💪
YAAAAAAAY IT CAAAAMMMEEEEE :DDDDD
I watched just a few seconds and its already so epic
I come from the Czech Republic, thank you so much for making this video!
Great video! The Czechoslovak legion was a really powerful force!Greetings from Bulgaria!
🇨🇿🇸🇰 Czechs and Slovaks have balls of steel, why isn't this talked about more?!?!?
During communism it was forbidden to talk about it or teach it in schools.
@@kamikazoo6599 and still its not in the History classes.
@@unclesam5733 My teacher talked about them when were taking ww1. That's how i discovered them.
This is the IRL version of having like 5 troops in the middle of enemy territory in RISK, and somehow managing to get most of them back to your empire.
I don't know who you are...
I don't why you are in my recommendation...
All I know is that I must subscribe to this amazing channel.
When the railway starts speaking Czech and Slovak
Omg fantastic!!! I learned about the Czechoslovak Legions a long time ago because of my family roots. I am overjoyed to see you cover it on UA-cam. I always thought it was a relatively obscure topic, so that's why am I so excitable about it. Thank you! :)
Big. Ambitious. And a little wacky! :)
“The trees speak vietnamese”
“The snow speaks finnish”
“The trans siberian railway speak czech and slovak”
Even i as a Czech myself have learned something that i didn't know. Very nicely done animation my friend !
My grand grand father fought there in russia. I have got a lot of photos etc from there. I am proud about how our insignificant non-existing country had prevailed against all odds. But now I am sad that we are marching toward new dictatorship and not many people recognize that fact.
Oh wow! Great video with lots of great info :) Thank man! Greetings from Czech republic!
I swear “let’s jump in” is going to become as iconic as “just a theory a game theory”
Im front Slovakia and im really Happy that
some body else is interested on our history
As a child I did not care that much about our history. Now that I am older I can't get enough of it and I am sorry I did not pay more attention to appreciate it
great video I love the direction given towards the hello kitty cyberpunk theme
My great grandfather fought here, but he didn't want to speak about it, because like he said, it was a brutal massacre.
Despite this being a countryball video it's actually one of the very best on this topic. Good job. Subscribed.
Imagine an alternate universe where czechoslovakia took over russia
The thing is if the Very well trained And mostly veteran legion joined forces with the Whites And did a march on Moscow they would probraly Win since they did have Good equipment And if they didn't have Good equipment they would Just Kill few reds And steal those weapons
But even if That happened the Whites would not let That happen
That would be interesting
Such an epic story. We hated commies from the beginning
Not at all
comunism is menace... worse than hiv and ebola and cancer and covid combined
it take away freedoms, food and money from people. and drop price of human life to ZERO.
Love the design for Slovakia, the eye patch looks so cool
But is historicly inacuret, its flag of prest day Slovakia. And czech flag is not use by legion as well
This is my personal favorite engagement in all of military history, thanks for the analysis on it!
Great video!
Your voice has an impact! That's one of the most important things when it comes to telling history.
My teacher was also good at this and because of her words having such greater impact it made me fall in love with history.
Have a good day
am so happy of people who know about slovakia and czech republic cuz i live in slovakia and we got one of the hardest abc ever
Im proud that im Czech. And its good to hear good things about us.
I don't regret choosing the Czechoslovak Legion, this is epic!
Seeing this, brings sadness. All those wasted years in elementary school. Learning such a cool part of my history from UA-cam video..
Anyone else arrived here after watching the trailer to "Last Train Home"?
Czech anthem: Plays
Me, sat perfectly in my chair: *stands up, hand on chest*
S náma se prostě nevyplatí srát :D poznal to každý režim dokonce i náboženství :D
Incredible Video as Always!
I had heard of the Czechoslovak Legion in USSR, but didn't know the details or why they ended up there. Thanks for the video !
I thin in that time it was car Rusia not USSR
@@Mirinovic well, I guess we were in the transition from Russia to USSR
The majority of the legionaries in Russia were Czechs, with Slovaks making up 7% of the force (not 1/3 or even 1/2 as it looks like in the video). Just to be clear.
7:33 love the Cuban that snuck in at the front
Based Czechoslovakia history
Thank you for making this video. Finally someone made something like this that isnt normally spoken about. And there is a myth that the legionaries got into contact with the cars treasure which would be cool to talk about and wreck or confirm. :D
I known all of this bcs I am from cech republic and Slovakia at the same time so that means I am from cechoslovakia and what I like the most on Slovakia is the mountians is it just beautyful and almost every winter and the snow everywhere It's just beautyful and also everyone have a great day ^_^
Czecho-Slovakians where really hardcore man back then you have to realize that they didn't have place in the world and they had to pick fights and find ways how to secure at least something for them.
There were 2 options:
1) Go through Ukraine
2) Go around the planet
Of course they chose the 2nd one, no one wants to go through Ukraine xD
Even with all their badassery czechs alone couldn't break an entire German eastern front all by themselves. )
Well funny thing is that their original plan was to go through Murmansk but arkhangelsk but due to German submarine still around the north sea so their next best chance is going through Vladivostok lel and go from the US or India to reach europ
Wow, what an amazing story, i'll wait for the next part
I am proud of my Czech and Slovak brothers for kicking the Reds ass, we may have fought just after the war, but our brotherhood shall be forever.
My great great grandfather was part of the czechoslovak legion, I don’t know much about him though :(
My family also gets monthly magazines titled “legionáři” (legionaires), surprised no one mentioned this yet
You know, this reminds of that Battlefield 2042 trailer tagline. "War is the only way Home." Seeing that the Czechoslovak Legion had to fight their way to Vladivostok to get back home.
What an awesome video about my country, thank you Ezekiel
I'm czech, and I have no fucking clue how is this the first time I've heard about this.
Huh, I thought that this topic should be taught in primary schools
@@kedarunzi9139 it is, it's part of WWI history
@@Pidalin of course, I'm aware of that.
That's why I was surprised that op doesn't know about this
Same here, I remember in history class about ww1 only mention about Legions were: ...yeah we fought on russian side.....
THIS IS SO COOL WHY THEY DIDNT TEACH US THIS
Slovakia the same
Today I found out that my great great grandfather was in Czechoslovak legion
And died after the war, in crashlanding, when finaly returning home,...
Thank you for making this video. I never really knew the whole story of the czech-slovak legion in russia up until now
Nice video, I am subscribing for the second part!
Good content mate, keep it up
Wonderful video! Excited for the next part!
Wasn’t expecting rimworld music randomly halfway through the video lol
Be proud of your country, fellow Czechs. Vždyť jsme stejná krev.
Excellent Polandball content
Awesome Video as always
I love that slovakia is the angry younger brother who has seen some stuff in the war.
I wondered why you would use Rimworld music at 7:55. I looked the song up and it is called Rough Trail. Seems fitting.
Great as always!
Je to zajímavé slyšet to od někoho kdo není Čech nebo Slovák.
These are some of the best PolandBall videos
Holy shit! I know our Legions fought in ww1, but I never knew about this :D Holy shit we are awesome :DDDD
Also our national anthem at the end of video, much love man
Musím povedať to je super
Its realy realy super video respekt
Im from Slovakia🇸🇰
nice video
There is a song from 1918 made by the czechoslovak legion and I really hope it's in the 2nd part!
The soviets are so weak that some random Czech and Slovak volunteer veterans kicked their their ass so hard they had to invent gulags.
