I think they're both really good, whichever is better probably just depends on which you like better! But it would be wrong of me to use CFOP while claiming Roux is better, so I think you know my answer in that case :)
MITT SER I recommend to use CFOP first and its based on algorithms while ROUX is intuitive, and you can learn 2 - look OLL and PLL on CFOP and it can get very fast. I think in your situation you'll get to like 40 - 1 minute. Hope it helps :))
I agree with all of this, in five days I was better at roux than 3 weeks of using cfop. Also I think roux is a lot more fun than cfop, because there's more intuitive parts, and it's cool to just watch it change when doing lse
I've switched from CFOP to Roux some months ago, and some days ago I finished to learn all the algorithms of Roux, which makes me pretty happy and proud of myself. I just wanna let ya know that u're my inspiration, hugs from Brazil!!! nice video
Great video. I like your openness and generally like the reasons you have shared. In addition to CFOP, I learned corners first and like the increased efficiency. I have looked into Roux, but I seem to have trouble with the intuitive approach. Perhaps I will learn a lot from tutorials you put out there, as you enjoy using Roux. Thanks.
Wait a minute. The LSE method you showed in your tutorial was your method for LSE? It incredible how efficient and intuitive it is. It is also beginner friendly. I switched from CFOP to Roux last week and I am now averaging under a minute, and I am glad I switched because Roux is more fun to use than CFOP.
i can solve with roux, but the way i do first block is really bad, i just can't do it right or efficiently, i'm glad you were able to find the best method suited to you! i could probably get better at it if i wanted, i really like M moves and know how to solve the corners in one look, but just recently i've got a sub 10 average of 5, so as of now i'm gonna keep up the momentum. best of luck with the future man!
Why I Switched From Beginners Method To Petrus: My Good Friend We'll Just Call Him Ru, He Was The Fastest Cuber In The Class. He Used Roux. My Other Friend We'll Call Him John, He Was The Second Fastest. He Used ZZ So I Was Inspired To Use Petrus So That We Could Confirm Who Was The Fastest. I Obviously Got Second. Still Behind Ru And That Is Why I Use Petrus.
I'm not interested in speed solving, i'll stick with my 24 second personal best. Because what difference does it make if i solve it any faster. I also never solve the cube the same way twice. I mean if someone asks me if i can do it, i'll do either the simple beginner method, or corners first. But when i'm solving it on my own, i usually just make random pairs all over the cube, and then put them together. I remember one time when this kid in high school would use CFOP, and i asked him to let me play with his cube. He was telling me i'll never solve it the whole time. The entire time i was solving it, it looked like a jumbled mess. And then out of nowhere it was solved. And he just sat there in amazement. He asked what method i did, and i told him there wasn't a method, i just put the pieces where they go. You learn a lot from trying different methods. And you only need a couple algorithms to solve it. Once you learn what the algoritms change, you learn how to change the algorithms as well. For example let's say, you want to change two edges. Obviously you have the edge orient, and the edge swap algorithm, from the beginner method. Well you can alter the algorithms to change unrelated edges, you just have to remember what the extra moves were so you undo them at the end. That takes your cubing ability to an entirely new level. It won't make your times faster, but it will make your brain stronger. What is the point of learning 1000's and algorithms when you really only need 5 or 6?
I am currently making the transition ;) and think you should make a video on developing good habits for roux. Maybe discuss or walk through efficient blockbuilding (second block gets me every time for some reason). I consistently get almost identical move counts with CFOP and Roux, which is a problem. Considering that the biggest advantage of roux is efficiency, I think it would be fantastic if you could provide some basic or advanced tips/techniques you have learned or figured out. (i avg around 10 seconds with CFOP and 16 with Roux, so it can be hard to stay motivated but I think it will work out better for me personally)
Love this video! Man, I wanna learn Roux and love all those all those M slices. Sadly I am great at learning algorithms but suck horribly and block building or doing anything intuitively.
I also just did it, I feel like my solves are way more fluid than my solves using CFOP, and I love the fact that theres absolutely no rotations on Roux, since I hate rotations and regrips, the less regrips the better, I also think its way more fun to solve using Roux(obviously its personal), I was suffering from boredom using CFOP, if wasnt for Roux I'd have quit cubing a long time ago
So,you should make a complete video tutorial on roux method.Honestly,I feel most comfortable with you and #jperm for any kinda suggestion or tutorial.Plz,don't disappoint us
I tried Roux for a bit. While it may be a little bit more fun for me I'm Very slow and it would take me awhile to get to where I am with Cfop. I also don't see myself ever getting bored of cfop or cubing in any sort of near future. TLDR: cfop isn't boring enough for me to get slower for awhile with roux.
My first cube was a QiYi Warrior W which o bought from a store, 2 days later my pb was 2 minutes 20 seconds. So, i decided to learn CFOP, but i though It was top much algorithms to learn another method and your video helped me to decide what method i should learn, thx
I have my own way of solving the cube and it doesn't have a name. But basically, you solve one color, then you solve the layer under the color, and then the last layer.
i have been wondering if i should switch to roux and this video has helped a bit in my decision, i don't know yet if i'm going to switch but i will learn roux and see if i like it more or less than CFOP
I'm starting with Roux, not with CFOP as others do. I like the intuitiveness and the movements. Even when learning the beginner method, I hated learning the basic algs, so I thought "what more if I learn CFOP?"
The one problem I have with Roux is that it does not feel like a progression from the basic layer by layer method like CFOP does. Ergo, Roux would not use any of my knowledge of making the cross or solving in layers. In fact, my knowledge of basic seems more like a hindrance than help when I try solving with the Roux method. Also, who doesn’t feel awesome using Sexy Moves and Sledgehammers?
Interesting. Learning CFOP right now, just working on getting the f2l in my muscle memory kinda. Wonder if I should just learn roux instead of learning all cfop.
I don't understand when you said block building and F2L are different? They are exactly the same. The only difference is with roux you leave out the 2 edges, everything else is literally the same.
So, your deciding factors for making the full switch is: Getting FASTER while HAVING FUN with it. I'll just share my particular story for favoring Roux. After learning the beginner's method, I wanted to know if there was another/faster way to solve the cube. I was in the Fridritch vs. Petrus Era. The deciding factor that The Petrus System got me was "It doesn't break what you already solved... unlike the Cross." Block-building wasn't too much of a hurdle for me. In fact, solving the 2x3 block by intuition just fits my style. Now, as years have passed and finding out that Modern Speedcubes have kicked Petrus out of the Big 3, the time was ripe for me to choose another method. Since Freedom in Block-building has always been my preferred style choosing Roux was rather easy. Not to mention also my preference on Intuition over Pure Algs. Now, Roux (even in the beginner's method) is making me enjoy 2 things that Petrus never did: 1. Cool-looking M Slices 2. Almost non-existent Cube Rotation. Not only does #2 is making my solves more fun, it's going to prevent me further from learning CFOP at all (Yeah, I know, not learning CFOP has its downsides, but that's just me).
More than likely, if you use corners first beginners method you will excel roux if you start of using layer by layer then you will excel cfop. Although I started in lbl I plan learning lse and cmll algs and giving roux a shot for a few months.although I might keep it to test the limits of roux (since cfop has already reached its limit and only way to get wr with cfop is to get x cross then last layer skip etc.) also roux is less moves and less algs than cfop.)
Have you read Mahabharata or Bhagavad Gita? I also like cubing and would like to get into a little more speed cubing. I found this interesting. I think I'm going to go the roux route, thanks bredren.
So just to be clear. Did you quit CFOP for good or will you be switching in and out of methods or using both simultaneously like you used to? It seems a shame to give up CFOP forever, seeing as you you put so much time into it and after all, it is a great method.
No, I still use CFOP and currently I am Method Neutral with both the methods. (mainly solve with CFOP in Reviews so you can see how a cube performs with CFOP and Roux). I don't practice CFOP seriously anymore, as Roux took over. I wouldn't want to lose my sub 10 with CFOP status for lack of practice xD
@@jtgmng1731 But don't worry, it gets better! Now I average... 16 seconds! lol However, that's in part due to college and taking up 4x4 and 5x5. Keep on pushing and you can certainly get there!

Hey man, I've been practicing roux for the past 3 months, and all thanks to your content. Roux is more fun for me too, but blockbuilding is definitely a hurdle. I would just like to ask you about your LSE method, do you orient, do UL UR, and permute, or do orient, bottom line, and U Z H perm?
I orient, do UL and UR and then solve 4c. Are you in the Roux Facebook group? I have shared my LSE method there. I'll make an updated video also regarding my method as I have improved it since then. Its perfect now :D
Your video made me wonder if I should switch to the Roux method (I am not a big fan of the look ahead and stuff either), but I am also not a big fan of the M moves on the cube, not because of the move itself, but more because when I try to do it sometimes my hands feel clumsy and I don't know how I would perform (I presume that a lot of M moves are required for Roux) what should I do ?
Hello! I just ordered myself a cube specifically yj mgc v1., Should i learn CFOP ? or I'll just learn roux ? From what i observed in youtube, most of them use cfop. And cubers(pfft i only see 3 of then) in my school use cfop and beginner's method. Should I be unique at some point and use cfop?
I also do 3×3 but initial goal is to get a WR,CR or atleast a NR.Now I can't afford expensive cubes or lubes. My cube is not bad but also not as good a valk.Because of this I think that getting a wr of 3×3 single, average with 2 hands, one hand or bld is kinda impossible. So what should I do??I consider doing FMC as it does not require a good,it only requires using your brain.

I have practised one year and I'm almost sub 20. I feel slow. 4 months sub 20 is crazy.
teamsamsung I know right!
The only thing I don't like about using Roux is you can't really do it on big cubes
Keith Doherty it can except you won't have much time to plan first block, also Meyer method is basically the roux equivalent of yau or hoya
*_Imagine He changed to ZZ after 2 and half year._*
And maybe even *DGOFOOPLIMO*
At 5:03, you said that one can be sub 8 with basic Roux and CMLL. So its possible?
Yup. Basic block building, CMLL and LSE = sub 8 is doable :)
I mean you can be practicing 2 methods at the same time. Why not?
hmmm my pb is 15:42 with CFOP ,,,,how does it take to get sub 20 using roux ?
OG MH
did you switch to roux
Can someone tell me which one is better or easier, roux or cfop
Your video made me wonder if I should switch to the Roux method (I am not a big fan of the look ahead and stuff either), but I am also not a big fan of the M moves on the cube, not because of the move itself, but more because when I try to do it sometimes my hands feel clumsy and I don't know how I would perform (I presume that a lot of M moves are required for Roux) what should I do ?
I thought the same, however M move is easy to get used to and feels natural after some practice. Try out Roux and see if you like it or not :)
CriticalCubing Ok, thank youu :D
i really want to learn roux but i can't find any tutorials so i will just stick to CFOP
why dont you use both
I am sub 25 CFOP solver.
(Without learning full OLL and PLL)
Did anyone else notice that he broke the world record in this video!?!?!
Where?
how did you do sub 20 in 3 months, I have been cubing for 1 20 months and is still 22 average
I'm averaging like 30s with CFOP. Do you think it will be efficient to shift to Roux now? I hate learning algs.
Yup, why not? Try and see if you like Roux or not and then decide which one to use.
CriticalCubing Which tutorial did you use to learn Roux?
I watched Walkthrough Solves.
Criticalcubing can you give some tips on roux?im a cfop user and i want to transfer to roux im sub 15 with cfop and sub 45 with roux.my problem is the block building....
I use CFOP Roux and a method I invented myself depending the scramble
