    One of the few reviews that lets you hear the guitar properly through a no frills amp. A breath of fresh air by someone who knows what is important when buying a guitar.

    I really like that guitar. Nice and simple. Lovely clean lines, simple but effective controls, decent sounding pickups and I guess it has excellent tuning stability ? Very nice headstock and I love the wee emblem ( I always think that kind of thing is far more aesthetically pleasing than a makers name and too much font ..... maybe that's just me though lol - thanks for the review John. Much love to you and yours x

      As an aside, I too find the stock set ups really low and unpleasant to play and find myself changing strings and tweaking most things.

      @@alexwalker67 Revstars are currently (2020) factory fitted with Elixir .10s. IMPE, neither Revstars nor Pacificas (.9s, D'Addario last I bought one 2019) come OOTB with default low setups. I buy online from boxshifters most of whom just don't do pre-delivery setups, so what I'm experiencing after a climatic truss rod readjustment if necessary, is how the factory sets Revstar & Pacifica string heights. Their strings are set to a conservative Yamaha spec. height (measured with a string gauge). I usually find I have to lower the action a tad, and I'm not a 'fret buzz is normal' ultra low action nutter, respecting anyone who prefers their action otherwise be it higher or lower. Unsurprisingly, the majority in guitar sites I haunt will complain about their action being excessively OOTB. I don't wholly agree.

    If not liking the ceramics, can easily turn the RS320 into an impressive rock monster by fitting with some high output Korean Wilkinson alnico Vs for very little money. No dry switch on the 320 of course. Any issues with tuning, graphite the nut or swap it out for a TUSQ from GraphTech. The Japanese made RSP20CR does have an OEM GraphTech TUSQ nut fitted OOTB, but not sure if it's available from GraphTech even by special order as their OEM Pacifica nuts are. In any case, out of luck with a proprietary fit for the RS320/RS420 which have different necks. But its doable. Obvious alternative if wanting alnico Vs is of course, to buy the 420 instead for not a whole lot more money. YGD VH3s, (OEM G&B Korea).

      I'm finding the tuning on mine to be rock solid. I barely have to touch it. (With lubed nut of course)

      looking for a DC guitar to play Melvins-esque metal on, would you recomend this, the 420, or trying to find a used SE Standard 24?

    • @theblytonian3906
      @theblytonian3906 2 роки тому

      @@Noothgrush420 I'm not the right person to answer to that question meaningfully as metal isn't my thing. I didn't even know who the Melvins were without referring to Wikipedia.
      The RS420s pickups are medium output, but alnico V. Arguably more versatile than those in the 620 ..to my ear. if a Les Paul would do the job, so would a Revstar. Pickup tone and output is of course, subjective. That can be altered as desired of course.

      I started playing guitar a couple years ago.The owner of our local music store suggested that since it was my first guitar I shouldn't spend alot of money. I bought a 200 U.S. dollar Yamaha FG 800 acoustic. There isn't any quality issues to complain about. Since then I bought a used Yamaha LS6M in perfect condition for a great price. The only reason I bought a different guitar is because the neck on the FG 800 wasn't right for me. I haven't played many guitars but the LS6M is a dream to play. I think you can pick a new one up for under $ 500. I know that there are other good guitars in this price range but I have looked at some absolute pieces of junk also. A very satisfied customer.

    It's balanced when sitting down but with a strap it's a little neck heavy.

    I must have got a bad one. Buzzing bad. Had to level the frets. Intonation was way off. Had to replace the bridge to get more travel in the saddles to finally get it intonated. Nut was cut wrong so replaced it with a Tusq nut. Still goes out of tune. Install Hipshot locking tuners which helped but I think the thin neck has got something to do with it and there isn't much that can be done about that. It's an ok player now but not my favorite instrument. Still fights me a little playing down the neck.

      Very unusual for anything made by Yamaha to be a duffer. Makes me wonder if it is the real thing or a fake?
