When I first heard this music being a pianist I had to get the music and as I played it, this is the sound I heard in my head - the beautiful voices so deep and emotive with such a build-up followed by a de-crescendo. What a beautiful performance. I have always loved Bach but this piece by Rossini is totally special and unique, as is this performance. Bravo to all performers. I will always come back to this particular performance. The piano part is so harmonically amazing, plus a touch of humour. Whenever I hear it I just can't wait to jump on to the piano and immerse myself in it.
You know how much a conductor loves a work when he chooses to take one of the piano parts, especially a conductor of so many Strauss and Wagner operas.

La prise de son n'est hélas pas à la hauteur de la qualité des interprètes. Mais la ferveur du choeur, la belle tenue des solistes et l'émouvante partie au piano du toujours regretté chef Sawallisch font oublier ces distorsions du son pour ne conserver que l'émotion de l'écoute. Mille mercis pour ce partage.
Le choix de ce tempo très lent est émouvant, mais je préfère la version bien plus "punchy" de Groot Omroepkoor qui me semble plus fidèle à Rossini, à sa verve, à son humour.
Une des meilleures versions, et quel bonheur de voir et entendre le grand Sawallich !!
