  • Portable AC Units need to expel the heat through a large hose that must be mounted in a window. Not always an easy chore or task especially if you don't have the "standard" type window. This video installs the hose on a window that has a crank out window with an interior screen.
While running, the window needs to be left open an inch or two. A 7" diam hose is about 28 sqin in area, so the open window needs the same amount ... a 28" high window open 1" wide would be just right!

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

I wish I had people in my life who were capable of doing this and I were willing to do it for me.

I need this. I have zero tools but I want to do this. Perhaps Lowes would be able to cut everything for me and all I need to do is install it...a girl can dream.

I just called Lowes, they can only cut straight wood.

I often wondered how birds and bugs don't just fly into that hole into the air conditioner. Thank you for this idea.

This is amazing. I'm a single female with no tools. My window where I want to install the portable AC unit is about 4ft off the ground. The sliding window doesn't allow me access to the outside, only to the screen on one side. My last home had access which could of made it easier. Anyways, I am looking to purchase a portable AC unit with minimal requirements for installation due to lack of tools, experience and help. Do you have any suggestions? Don't laugh, but I'm not even sure how to get the screen out without bending/breaking it. OK.. I'm laughing because it is rediculous. I own it😂

As long as you can open the window and somehow mount the large hose flat against the screen, the unit will function.
Next trick is to then block the rest of the screen so the nice cold air in the room doesn't go out and the hot air outside doesn't come in! If you don't care about visually blocking the window, then use something like corplast which is that plastic panels that look like corrugated cardboard (same stuff they use for temporary signs like elections) Good luck finding a solution ... think how do I hold the hose against the screen and block the rest!

I used an OSB which I'm going to paint for a sliding terrace window/door.

all these portable AC installation videos with window screens etc have a guy with saws and a full workshop doing it. respect the talent but like i'm a guy who sits in a chair all day and just wants to spend 5 minutes on it

Well break out the duct tape (or duck tape or gorilla tape!) and a sheet of clear plastic and have at it. Won't be as nice and pretty looking but it would do the job quite handily.

The heat from the exhaust hose won’t melt the window screen? It’s not to hot for the material?

Is it safe for the hoses to touch the mesh screen like that? Could it start a fire?

Does the exhaust create a lot of moisture? This idea is exactly what I was looking for, but I am concerned about moisture dripping on the interior of the screen or on the outside ledge.

Never had a drop of moisture with this type of unit. I worried about that initially but no water collected or dripped anywhere.

But the hot air just gets sucked back in through the mesh as the A/C unit creates a low pressure zone on your house.

Yes ... very inefficient model. I would not buy this style again and when time comes to replace, I will be going with a split unit.
