Jim Baird Adventurer: A Day in the Life at an Off-Grid Cabin - E.2 - Lake Trout & Snowmobiling: Living in an off-grid cabin is a simple way to spend your time. Here I'm staying in a log cabin in the Yukon. In this video, I film a typical winter day (March 2021). I get up, light our Coleman lantern, light a fire in the woodstove, cook breakfast on a propane range, and wash dishes using water heated by the woodstove. Then, firewood is split and stacked and we head out to explore the trails by snowmobile, bringing fishing tackle and an auger along in order to do some ice fishing. The bite is slow at first and my wife Tori gets a fire going on the ice to cook hotdogs as our son Wesley snoozes. I try a different spot and catch a nice Lake Trout. We then eat and head home. With a couple hours or more of light left, Tori sets up our solar panels as we're keeping camera gear and lights charged with our solar generator. Soon, darkness begins to fall and I light the propane light and cookstove to start cooking dinner. What a perfect day.

LOL! the Muff Pot! My Dad back in the 70's, driving to the cottage would have my Mom wrap a beef tenderloin in Foil. He'd throw it on the engine between the Air intake filter and the Rocker cover. When we stopped for gas(full service back then) He's say to the attendant. Can you check the oil, and rotate the roast.

Nice, thanks a lot. This trip is above the 60th parallel so it’s northern Canada proper. It’s known colloquially as “the north” the term is loosely used but the therm “the far North” usually refers to the Arctic above the Tree Line.
It is ironic...here I am watching you all on a snowmachine and it looks to be about -10 to -15 C and here in Brantford it was 32 and bumidex was close to 40. Watching you drill holes with a Mora brings back memories. You know I am 60 now but I wish we had the digital camera gear back in 1980 when we built our hunt/fish cabin near Westree. We hauled all the material thru the Bush on our trail and having the camera gear that is now available would have made great video. Jim, if you ever want to see our cabin, let me know. It will be for sale in the next 10 years because we are all getting too old to go there. I am going in 2 weeks but as I said, I am 60...not 30. I used to walk thru bush, fish...etc but getting old sure does take away mobility and stamina. I wonder who they are...the ones that gave this a thumbs down...I will.never understand. Great cinematography Jim and Torri. Little Wes looked happy.

That was a great video you had some luck at least you caught one fish. That ice looked about 2 Ft thick. You looked like you had some fun on the snowmobile.

I have a Garmin ETrex 30x and a Zumo XT. Both great instruments. I had trouble with the Zumo relating to the Basecamp program but the Garmin technician was with me on the phone for about 20 minutes and got it straightened out. I'm off on a 4000 mile adventure on my Kawi KLR 650. Yeeeahhhh!! Fav part of the vid is watching Wes eat. He can put away the eggs.

Keep the faith with those long departure times. Man, our autistic boy wouldn't have put up with those goggles for a second. Had to hold him down like we were torturing him just to try on new shoes. If he got wet on a walk, or if we went back on our tracks? Disaster!! But over the years, "peepee dress up" is all it takes to get him going. He loves to get out, and it seems like your boy enjoys it too. He's a real adventurer now, loves new things, travel etc...
I know it can be tough, really tough sometimes, and there will always be difficult times, but keep at it. I'm sure he'll improve with time, and you'll learn to deal better too. That he seems to enjoy being outside like our boy, I think is a great sign for outdoorsy people. He can accept new things.
