Chat telling you to go to pvp to explode your head with every single ability your class has probably was like the WORST idea.
they werent saying for him to play pvp, but to to go the pvp loby to see the skills
Still overwhelming lol was a really bad suggestion
@@leonardobertagnolli712 its better to just explore the game slowly and not bombard yourself with way too much info
@@leonardobertagnolli712 Best way to spend 10h to choose your first character and trying to do a perfect run, worst outcome possible
I agree. That's not a good place to go as a completely new player.
Oh boy, he allowed veterans to overwhelm him.
This is how loads of people get scared away.
exactly
my experience after 15 years wow, keep an open mind. GW2 is a game that focuses on quality of life. it has a different approach than wow for many things and you quickly notice what is missing in wow.
@Ashkandi If you're an active WoW player, then you're used to WoW telling you what to do. GW2 says go have fun and explore, ask the community if you need help, it's worth it. otherwise take a look at the link ua-cam.com/video/xn55XoRIMlM/v-deo.html
@ashkandi3230 The orginal comment isn't talking about the game being player friendly tho ? If you mean the quality of life. He means stuff like account bound currencies, material storage, being able to level up your alts by playing your main etc.
The game not being player friendly also stems from the fact that the game does things differently as the comment above mentioned.
People don't know anything about the game and the game doesn't explain itself either. There are some tutorials during level ups and some pointers, but that's about it.
For me personally that's the exciting stuff, discovering how the game works.
@@Ilikebeatzzz lol the less you know about guild wars the more epic your experience because there’s so much to explore without any punishments or handicaps. guild wars 2 is pretty much the most epic mmo just based on experience. from your quests, pvp, wvw and exploration of the open world and exploration of character builds this game allows a lot more than most mmos. in fact what you see now apart of wow or ff14 you already had with gw2 for free after your initial purchase of the base game. so many other mmos are just copying what guild wars has done to be an innovator in the mmo space. blizzard is basically a dying gaming company because all they do is focus on copying mechanics of other games. their last big win in innovation is their seamless expansive world exploration. when i look at all of the recent years of updates of wow and ff14 and now the upcoming release of diablo 4 it’s all based on what guild wars has done.
@@SeeHang some people are just stuck on grinding the same dungeons everyday for 1 piece of loot, being weekly locked out and waiting several months for a new update or expansion.
@@DeLiCx91 dungeon? tell me you don't play guildwars 2 without telling me
My advice regarding the overwhelming feeling, is just don't worry about most of the stuff that gets thrown at you. You'll figure it out in time, and you don't really lose out by ignoring most of it. You don't need the best gear and a super optimised build to progress through the levelling, the rewards you get from story instances and Heart merchants will be perfectly adequate. Like you said, just take it easy, you'll get to max level in good time, and it hardly takes any time at all to be kitted out in the almost-best gear.
Part of your issue is being a streamer; there are so many people excited to see you playing the game they keep saying "you can do this; you can do this; you can do this". If you just drop in an derp your way through it's a lot less intimidating because you go at your own pace. People were probably even more eager because you might not play the game again so they think "we have 2 hours to make him love GW2 as much as we do".
BTW your face in the PvP lobby is exactly why your first specialization unlocks after level 20, second after level 40 etc...
Also, Mesmer is confusing but not at level 12; most classes will have the same number of abilities at the level you are at, but on your own you encounter them a little more organically than with 100 people telling you what to do. :P
Very glad you decided to do another GW2 stream, it was great seeing you try it for the first time. You did notice a lot of thing that new players usually dont (probably because you have an MMO background) and that was fun to see. Of course there is still so much of the basic game mechanics for you to learn and I look forward to see you learn and enjoy it! GW2 is overall a super fun game, welcome to Tyria!
Watching this was fun!
But the frustrating part was wanting to explain things but then realizing it is not a live video😂
Also: mesmer is a difficult class to start with.
Starting with a ranger, necro or warrior would make it easier to understand everything.
Very fun video! Love your first impressions
I hope you'll give Guild Wars 2 a try. The game is a breath of frech air and I personally never went back
Glad you are enjoying GW2 enough to want to play it more in the future. I'd watch more of your videos while you learn how to play GW2, but then I'm a long time player who watches just about any GW2 content. One of the drawbacks of experienced MMO players doing this kind of video is that because you have experience with other MMO's, you are more likely to skip over stuff in the game, because you think you already know how it works, or that you will figure it out later, but that can create some problems with GW2, because the Devs have done many things differently with this MMO, than most traditional MMO's of the past and present. I really like GW2 and think that all players who enjoy the genre should give it a try (specially since it is free to play the core game, and there is no sub fee). My advice is to NOT rush through learning how GW2 works, because it does have some significant differences from other MMO's that you are used to playing, and you will appreciate it better. Also, the freedom GW2 gives you to gain experience from any of the different playstyles or game modes will allow you to level up in many different ways, so you can do what ever you want, and you will continue to level up and gain experience for all of it. GW2 does not hold your hand, or direct you to any specific path, but generally, most players follow the story as they level up. Since you get experience for everything, GW2 is very alt friendly and you can level all the way to 80 (max level) just by crafting, or by playing only PvP, or large scale PvP, which is called World vs World. You can level up by only exploring all of the maps, or any combination of the above. Read the descriptions of each weapon ability, and all of the other skills that you learn, because knowing what they do is part of learning the game, and how much you can customize your build, to suit any play style that you prefer. Lastly, GW2 has a great community, so don't be shy about asking for advice or help. It's a huge game and new players can easily become overwhelmed and feel lost, specially if they attempt to level up too fast, or they don't take the time to learn as they go along the path to unlock all of the game. Enjoy, and have a happy New Year.
Lol, that guy in chat that said gw2 wasn't out 10yrs ago, n im there thinking yes it was. It came out 10yrs 4 months ago. They recently had their 10yr anniversary.
He asked for the GW meme's he got the professor mew haha great fun nice to see xD
I sometimes play wow just for nostalgia. however، comparing guild wars 2 to world of Warcraft is, lack of better word, wrong just due to the fact that both games are extremely different even though they come from the same genre as both games are MMORPGs. however, the way they both approach things are extremely different and even the gameplay itself, so my advice to anyone who is or wants to try out guild wars 2 do not compare it to world of Warcraft or final fantasy because they are not the same. coming into guild wars 2 you have to keep one thing in mind that this game approaches questing leveling gears stats completely different even classes are different so so coming into this game just keep in mind that guild wars 2 is different from your traditional MMORPGs.
Aside from the issue that Blizzard and Riot are clearly wanting to take their mmos in a direction that is way closer to GW2 than they have in the past.
They can be compared in quality and effort developing the game. For that, GW2 is way better than WoW and FF 14
@@ROCKNROLL947 I don't disagree with you, however, there is an argument to be made for FF14 story wise it is much better than GW2 and both GW2 and FF14 are better than wow in terms of combat and story. Also, FF14 was able to boost its player base by a significant number unlike GW2. But what I meant was you can't compare the two interms of their game play and style GW2 is much more unique than wow or FF14, while FF14 and WOW are comparable with their play style/ combat. Also, they both have the holy trinity unlike GW2. sorry for the long post just wanted to clarify what I was trying to say in my original comment.
It was the turning of the character model once the armor was off, you sir got yourself a sub.
To the person that said it hasnt been out for 10 years, I'd like them to tell that to my characters that are over 10 years old.
I'm about to play this, nice to have a vid from someone, usually watched your wow vids/streams so gonna watch this as an advice video :D
Excellent first impression stream of GW2. I'd like to see you do another stream sometime of this game. My favorite class is mesmer but for the first 6 years, I played the ranger, then engineer and when I learned mesmer I was able to do way more DPS and knew exactly when to spawn the clones at the correct times. You can solo a LOT of tough enemies with that class at 80 when you know it well.
If you do another GW2 stream, go with warrior, thief or ranger because those classes are your forte and are easier to play when new.
I think the overwhelming feeling comes from a couple of things.
This game is the most different from other MMOs that follow WoW's lead.
So just questing and figuring out rewards requires a little more attention to the game.
The fact that the weapons all do different things is another.
But I think the main issue is reading your skills, in your own time. But read them. They are good explanations, and they tell you how your weapon should be used.
Honestly I would give it a try it's a lot of fun once you get going and all the different things you can do. Also fractals, and DLC is fun
When he got to the pvp loby I was like: dude abort abort! I perfectly remember the feeling of being overwhelmed by the game and I can imagine the feeling of going into pvp with 0 idea and that feeling, he made the best decision, leave and have a lvling experience and once your head doesnt hurt by just looking and trying to recognize stuff then you can go experience that, if you seek more.
I feel like with how big the zones are that a mount is required.
yeah, to me, personally, pvp lobby is for choosing my future specialization. Since there are 3 new specializations and each of them has different game play. If I only have limited time and hero points to unlock one of them, I would like to enter the PVP lobby and test them all. Then I can make my decision ;D
Was there ever a follow up stream for gw2? And if so will there be a video about that?
I look forward to your future Gw2 streams.
If there were any 🤣🤣
We all forget to loot at first. There is auto looting that you unlock later and that’s a god send
Welcome 🙏
"We have the big wolf bear people"
*Points to charr instead of norn.* ^^
I would say definetly join us for the Chtistmas event it's a lot of fun
just remember guild wars innovates with every expansion. they improve on previous releases. but the music in gw2 is epic and only gets better. when you get to icebrood saga you’ll get to some heavy metal music lol
the best way to describe a mesmer is a Phantasmal Mage.
I highly recommend new players start with warrior actually. It is so much easier to understand! Save other classes for once you understand abilities, builds, movement skills, and weapon swap. The information all gets super easy after a couple of hours of use.
just saw the video reason why you had issues with the guzu and zz names is probly asura as lore wise asura names have the double zz type names. asura are the small ET things
good luck 👍
I'm not missing anything, right? I was curious about that second stream/video of GW2 you seemed to be sure about doing, but I can't see any.
There's no second stream.
Any follow up after this video, or did you return to WoW (or other games) and haven't played any more GW2? In my opinion (and probably many others as well), Guild Wars 2 gets much more interesting and challenging, once you get to the first expansion, Heart of Thorns, and I believe the quality of the story and events goes up as well. Heart of Thorns, Living World 3 & 4, the Path of Fire expansion and the first half of the Icebrood Saga, are the prime months and years of GW2 development, and might be good enough to sway players who are on the fence about continuing, or dropping out from playing GW2 any further. There is hope that the next expansion, Janthir Wilds, will be better than the expansion that preceded it, and Arenanet can get back to the high standard of development that they were once known for.
Have you ever considered making this your main game?
Angry Joe (UA-cam) did a review some time ago. Might want to look it up.
It's funny how a lot of your critique about the game being overwhelmed is because of things they changed a few years back in order to "improve" the new player experience. As someone who's been playing since launch, the game was a lot easier to grasp and understand on release than it is today. Your weapon skills would be unlocked by using the previous one a few times, and it wasn't shared between weapons (so right now when you unlock skill 5 you unlock all of the weapons' skill 5 at the same time, whereas before you'd have to get it for each weapon type. It didn't take long but it was enough to make it easy to process).
The other major thing is the lack of direction, that's because they changed the story to be delivered in chapters every 10 levels, where before you could do the story missions in succession, each one was only 2 levels higher than the previous (and you could do them even if underleveled), which meant a much more natural mix of story progression and world exploration.
It's very weird, but I still feel like to this day the revamp to the "new player experience" was probably one of the most damaging and least successful changes they ever did.
To be fair, players don't read the information to the things just unlocked on the pop-up for the "level up". If they would, they probably wouldn't be as lossed.
If your chat would see my main char , they would go wild xD
It is nice, that you try other MMO's, but I think choosing Mesmer as first class was not a good choice. I would suggest to pick up a class you know and like for better experience or even comparison 🙂
Maybe you can give it a new try 🙂
If it were just me, and i know it is not , i just have my ideals, id push for neutral starter zones. No mounts no crazy custom looks only basic armour skins with no color limits ofc. no gifts from the gemstore and or gold sending in imgame mail until level 15. Let new players experience the game and emersion before people come and take that first experience from new players. Well ment or not. But then again. It is merely my own opinion.
2:05:49 lmao
when you see that WOW basicly try and copy the dragons riding from GW2 xD
To be fair, there's no reason why a WoW player should like GW2. There's very little similarities between these games, well at least before WoW decided to copy some stuff from GW2, which is what WoW does. But GW2 isn't trying to be WoW and some even call it the anti WoW, not to be mistaken with the WoW killer. It purposely does things the complete opposite of how WoW used to do it. To love GW2 is to not love WoW, Some exceptionally few will play both games equally, but they don't really have a say in this matter. Everybody else prefer one system over the other, and when they test out the difference they go "Ah, oh, that's cool, aha!" Then go back to their old game and continue where they left off. A WoW's player impression on GW2 is in all honesty the least valuable impression as they can only compare it with a system GW2 is trying to be the opposite of.
atleast this game doenst have you bank stand or stand in one place for hours on end only to level up. i like this approach but it did take over half a year for me to get used to; "you can do anything you want and you stil get rewarded for your time" being able to direct my own gameplay feels good now and i wouldnt want to go back to having that freedom taken from me. ill decide what i want to do, not the game 😅
Been watching a lot of these "trying gw2 for the first time" videos, and it's crazy to me how bad people really are at new games.
It's like common sense and reading ability gets thrown out the window for no reason.
I guess Blizzard weren't lying about their reason for dumbing down their games.
To be very fair, the prologue quest from Norn is very weird and untied. Lackes emotion, the voice act was really... sore. To say the least. The human one is much more simpler and better applied, but the Charr one gets the trophy for the best.
I came here for gw2 not gw2
It seems like you are rushing thruogh the content. Its not like wow where u pay a monthly fee, so you dont get punished if you take your time.
For each lvl you get there pops an icon in the corner where u can see what's new in that lvl, but u dont wanna read it.
It's sad to see videos like these from months ago and see there was never a followup to it. Also this thinking of "let's then boost and then jump to some endgame gameplay" like it's like other mmos is just wrong.
LOL when you tricked him into the PVP hub you broke his brain. hahah at the beginning of the stream he was talking about boosting to 80 hahahahahaha
Different ways to level up... Just a shame you only try a few hours and quit. You haven't even touched 1% of the game. And of course it's a lot to learn. Too little would be a quick MMO that would die quick too. 2nd many things been added over the years. It's 10 years old...
If u ever wanna play thief...we run an all thief only guild...we mentor too, just keep an eye out for EcK.

@@zlynnt5373 when hes not working his ass off yeah, he still hasnt gotten his pc fixed yet. He wants to gvg though
Its really crazy how WoW dumbs down a MMO player and making the most basic ass shit "overwhelming". meanwhile, having over 20 skills, doing rotations, having trinket macros, all while handling M+ mob pressure or raid mechanics is not overwhelming at all LOL.
GW2 is a breath of fresh air, as a 13 year WoW player. It's very sad to see players like him not being amazed on the QoL shit that GW2 brings and very much so prefers WoW mechanics ie; Taking and returning quests. I just dont understand it. 😢
Should've tried it on your own. This is not a good impression for ANYONE, let alone someone trying to critique the game.
if you compare wow with gw2 only the genre is the same.completely different games.try same content in both and compare.wow is way more difficult than gw2.i am playing warcraft since day zero and last 2 years i join a friend at guild wars.totally different experience.
Wow=dead,Gw2=game of the year 2022
tried. dropped.
