Mugen, you've outdone yourself in terms of production value and editing skills. This video is beautifully crafted with a nice editing style and a digestable script. Everything just flows well into eachother topic, transitions and exposition. Glad to see you make nearly top tier content despite being only around 22k~ subscribers man, hope you grow your channel to the height that you can be compared to content creators like hbomberguy.

I think the biggest praise you can give a content creator is that their style feels unique to them and you’ve got it dude. So many anime/manga reviewers of your size or even larger feel like copy pastes of Scamboli or Ah Lecks but you really bring a unique vibe and tackle different and interesting topics of your own which is really cool to see. Earned a sub from me and can’t wait to see you blow up ❤

I have 289 hours in this game, and I'm STILL finding new stuff. Yesterday I had an interaction with astarion that made me stop in my tracks and just start laughing. Luckily i was streaming it so i can clip it, but I was NOT expecting that greeting from him. At the same time I don't want another studio to make baldur's gate 3 the knockoff cash grab. I don't need another baldur's gate 3, I have that already. The games you highlighted, games like Hollow Knight, Hades, various telltale games, and even games like stardew valley did not have the budget or scope of baldur's gate 3 but they did what they set out to do and did it WELL. They tried to be the best of this game they could be.
That's one of the reasons why I LIKE starfield, but they didn't try to innovate at all, they didn't take what they already knew and build on it. You showed oblivion and fallout dialogue scenes and THEY'RE NO DIFFERENT FROM STARFIELD'S. The game felt old as soon as I spoke to someone. The writing felt standard inconsistent Bethesda, and the first quest I got upon getting to the city hub was gather x of these items for me. Thanks, Fallout in space. Even cyberpunk with it's flaws upon release included felt more alive when talking to people. If you're going to go for that level of graphics, why have your characters stand there and talk like it's 2008? It feels like such a waste of good character models.
The other games I played this fall were Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen. Lies of P immediately captured my attention with it's beautiful soundtrack, and my ire with the punishing difficulty if you can't sekiro style block early on. I toughed through it but I couldn't get lost in it for hours because I'm old and that stuff HURTS your hands after awhile. Lords of the Fallen feels like a phoned in souls game where all the passion is in the level design, which is EXCELLENT. Both developers are doing something bethesda never did, they're listening to the feedback and determining what features they thought maybe weren't important actually are. Lords of the Fallen even made a whole roadmap of the player suggestions they saw as reasonable and are beginning to implement. For Lies of P they released the soundtrack as requested heavily and put more powerups in the front half of the game. They also made an ability you had to unlock something you always had, as players complained this was a default thing in bloodborne and the like and the game feels bad without it, AND you may never understand what it is to unlock it at all, thus making the game nearly unplayable for many at later areas.
I think if we can see more honest engagement like that at the VERY least, we'll start seeing better games that more fully live up to their potential.

I reccomend Stephanie Sterling's video on that topic on Xalavier Nelson Jr statements saying people shouldn't raise the standards on next games. I do agree with her cause I think there's a lot of misfire and backfire on this discussion. Xalavier is an indie dev, of course his games won't be the same standard of a 400 people team as Larian with theyr 20+ of experience (with most of the team being long time veterans, that's important to remind with an industry full of layoffs). And I think at this point all of us that raised our "standards" for the next games aren't expecting the same level of Baldur's Gate 3 from an indie company like, for instance Supergiant Games; we're damm satisfied with Hades, we are expecting top tier Baldur's Gate 3 level of game from AAA companies because they have the MONEY to do so. 8 Years ago we were praising CD Project Red fo Lots of achievments for the Wticher 3: remember When CDPR beat Bioware at their own game? The Witcher 3 conversation system is until this day the best conversation system in all gaming industry, the dialogues are so seamless that they seem all mocap and not templates, It puts newer with bigger budget games like Final Fantasy XVI to shame. Not to mention all other amazing features from the game: the living world, the sidequest that give you no other reward than a very good story.
We KNOW these guys can make their own Baldur's Gate 3 if they weren't so greedy.

Amazing, how in-depth and vast this review is. I loved how the brief but deep history of BG3 blends into the current discussion surrounding the game and your personal opinion that, I think, is both very objective and emotional at the same time. I would easily recommend this as a video-essay on what Baldur’s Gate 3 is as a game and a phenomenon. Thank you!

Bro you’ve been really outdoing yourself lately with this vids!
As an aspiring content creator, I’m just curious how long a video like this takes to make?
I’m currently working on a video that’s way smaller scale but it just seems like it’s taking FOREVER to script out. Maybe that’s just due to my inexperience though 😅

    • @mugenbop
      @mugenbop  11 місяців тому +1

      Firstly thankyou :)
Depends on the video and if I want to go really in depth whether that is researching more or putting in more info in the script but that risks being bloated.
atm videos take me two weeks, but everyone is different.
I love the research and scripting and rarely the editing, so editing to me is the slog and hard part and is a grind.
For scripting though I would recommend making a small ten minute video about your subject to slowly build those skills instead of 1hr retrospectives on X.

      @@mugenbop no problem!
Thanks for the reply man! I really appreciate it.
Your perspective gives me a good bit of relief tbh. I was stressing myself out because in my head I planned to have the video out in a week or so and it’s well past that 😅. And then I see a ton of other people putting out daily vids and I was just wondering if I was ridiculously slow at this.
But I guess everyone’s methods and work flows vary. I’ll just stay positive and try to make the best vid I can and not stress about a timeline too much.
I’m also going to try the ten minute video thing too. I’ve noticed after doing a couple vids that I’m not very good at articulating myself and I have a narrow vocab 😅. But I’ll try that too and flex those muscles.
Thanks again! Keep it up with the fire vids!

    • @mugenbop
      @mugenbop  11 місяців тому +1

Unless you are a new channel based around commentary and trending topics there is no rhyme or reason to upload daily.
A video that is good and interesting even it takes two years to make will be more valued than a quick ill-researched un-prepared video on a topic, unless you are moistkritical or as funny as him :) who still does his research.
If you don’t make money off it take your time and be happy with the video when you say I would watch this if someone else had made it

My uncle suggested I buy this game for the PS5 during last years Christmas Eve party. I downloaded it from the PlayStation Store and played it for almost a month. I was impressed by the graphics, story and most of all characters of Baldur’s Gate 3. My favorites are Shadowheart, Astarion, Gale, Karlach, Halsin and Jaheria.
This is my avatar or Tav
Male Half Elf Ranger who romanced Shadow Heart
And these are my other TAVs if I decide to replay the game.
Female Drow Warlock who romanced Astarion
Male Half Orc Fighter who romanced Karlach
Female Tiefling Rogue who romanced Gale
I’ve also heard of Divinity Original Sin 2 but never got the chance to play it. If this game got a PS5 port, here are the list of Godwoken I plan on making
    1. Male Dwarf Knight. Romanced Loshe
    2. Male Lizard Wizard. Romanced Sebille
    3. Female Elf Shadow Blade. Romanced Ifan
    4. Female Human Wayfarer. Romanced Beast

I'd like to stress one of the points Mugen mentions in this video: BG3 also suffers from a lot of compromises. The game had lots of bugs on launch (and still has), the branching paths aren't always internally consistent and content had to be cut to ensure the game's release. And yet, BG3 has been successful despite of these flaws - because, as Mugen said, it's the fruit of an approach to game development that today is sorely missed. In a sense, people bought an idea they liked - and this idea also came with a smashing brilliant game!

Original Sin 2 is definitely one of the best games and deserves pretty much the same attention as BG3.

so, most recently released games don't give what the players are looking for or hoping for. Whatever the genre is. In this case, the gameplay of interactive story telling is the itch many Players felt (and lacked.) And when Baldurs Gate 3 catches their attention and provides them what their searching for (and does it well) it becomes successful...

I myself wanna see this unnecessary trend of pruning rpgs of all their stat, progression, sandbox, custom characters, and consequence that has gripped the industry since late 2000s, what I call "Dark Age of RPGs" finally come to an end

Other developers backlash to Baldur's Gate 3 was both amusing, and kind of painful at the same time.
Saying people shouldn't use Baldur's Gate 3 as a benchmark to judge modern games against was kind of disengenuous. Players and Developers alike have always compared major release vs major release and seeing people attempt to say "but not this one, don't use this one as an industry benchmark." shows where the mindset of the industry is currently, and unfortunately (in my opinion) it's games as a service & release now, patch later releases.
