He was truly great, no question about that. Yes Royce was beaten by a superior Matt Hughes but who wouldn't have been? Matt Hughes is one of the best fighters in the world.

in general ...Royce in his prime...would have had a decent chance to take on hughes..but unfortunately wut the gracies lack is striking ability...UFC now is well rounded...so i think gracie jujitsu isnt the best
royce dominated the first 10 ufcs his defeat to matt was when he stopped training hard and took him for granted but royce in his prime there was not a fighter alive who could take him
