Hi and thanks for your videos. The Chase Bliss HI-Fi not only makes warped sounds, but it has one of the most beautiful chorus sounds I've ever heard. I am glad they teamed up with Drolo and OBNE for that new MOOD. I love weird pedals and unfortunately I have sold a few due to money constraints and just wanting to trade out. Case in point was the Aqueduct which definitely falls in this category. Also, a few times pedal manufacturers can be very rude and that has made it difficult at times to be unbiased on my part but some are just so nice that I know they want my business and as a result they have it.
The Warped Vinyl (both versions) are awesome pedals. I got the Mkii specifically for this shootout and figured I'd sell it immediately after, but I ended up also liking it so much I kept it. An interesting idea would be to use the OBNE Expression Ramper on a lo-fi pedal that has an expression input, and ramp two, three, or four parameter settings for some unintended lo-fi modulation that isn't supposed to exist.
Wow thanks for taking the time to make that. I'm currently looking for an effects pedal for a project I'm working on and was wondering if you'd have any recommendations? I'm looking for it to do a few things: 1. Random wow and flutter. 2. Able to control /increase noise levels over time 3. Stereo in/out. Intended to be used with synths /guitar/daw. Think Boards of Canada but without the hassle of rerecording on a reel to reel tape player (so far I feel like that still may be the way to go though!). Oh also, if it was available in the UK that would be great. So many of these amazing sounding pedals are so hard to get hold of!
So for requirement 1, you need the ability to control noise with an expression pedal to get the "over time" aspect. That's the only way I can think to do it. For requirement #2 you're looking at tape style, and for #3 you narrow your list down to the Source Audio products. Those are the only options that hit all 3 of those requirements. The only other option is the Destroyer machine on the Mobius. I'm not 100% posotive, but I'm about 99% sure you can assign the expression pedal control to control noise on the Mobius. That is more in the ball park of a warped vinyl sound though.
@@TriPedalReviews Wow thanks for getting back to me. You've confirmed what I suspected might have been the case. Looks like the Source Audio pedals are the best option for me - I'll need to have another listen to them and the Mobius. I also thought the Wardenclyffe sounded amazing in its own way, but alas, I can only afford to buy one pedal! :)
I don't have the artificial blonde, but I did an updated shootout with almost all iterations of the Generation Loss. Might do another round at some point to include some additional pedals that have been released in recent years, but it'll probably be at least a year down the road.
I did a demo with that pedal, it'll be included in round 2 of the shootout. Anyways, I do like the pedal, but there are certain controls I'd like more control over, so it isn't perfect. Filtering for instance is on a toggle switch. I'd much rather have that on a knob or several knobs.
@@TriPedalReviews I did buy it but I’m really leaning towards getting the chase bliss hifi just because it’s chorus is amazing. For the vinyl aspect I wish it did do a little more like the crackling noise. Which pedal was your favorite and why? Thanks again!
@@empathysgone96 My 2 favorites for Vinyl emulation are the Strymon Mobius and the Midfi Random Vibrato. Mobius because I like the control set and I think they did the vinyl hisses/pops better than anyone else. The Midfi only does random vibrato, but it is just the right amount for me personally. Just adds a bit of movement. Other than that it has no features. My favorite for tape emulation would be the Ventris hands down, and it's not even a sound it was "meant" to do. I really like the Hifi though, it's one of my favorite chorus pedals. I think it does a pretty good job even without the hiss/pops. I'll be checking out the Wardenclyffe deluxe when it comes out, which will also be part of the 2nd shootout.
Thanks for the detailed video! Its very cool to hear sound comparisons. This new "boutique" pricing mode for guitar pedals is bullshit though. I'm not paying more than a couple hundred for any pedal point blank period. Its just greedy. Looking at you Chase Bliss.....
For Tape, the SA pedals are my favorite. Deco & Recovery (deco being cleaner) are probably close seconds, but all of the ones in that category did a good job. I was amazed at pedals that wern't built specifically for the purpose getting as close as they did to the sound. I will say the EHX tape was different than the others, covering just saturation and uniform modulation. So it wasn't quite as robust as the other options, but it's purpose is a great delay, not chewed up tape sounds. Vinyl is harder to call for me, so I wont, lot's of killer pedals in that category.
@@TriPedalReviews I’ve come back to this great demo many times. The Deco really sticks out as a amazing sound with the saturation engaged. If they made a stereo lofi junky instant, I’d be set.
Vinnie D Mr. Black’s Mini Chorus is $99. It’s modeled after the 70’s Ensemble Chorus. You can go from a lush sound, to a tri-Chorus type of effect. And with the mix all the way up it becomes vibrato and then you can manipulate the depth and rate. Only con is that the knobs are kind of tiny, which isn’t bad for me because I have small hands. But it does become hard to see the dash mark to know where it’s dialed at. All in all, a worthy purchase when you’re on a budget and can’t afford their “normal sized” vintage Chorus. Good luck, my man.
Strymon has an Application called Nixie, if you hook the pedal up to your computer via a USB to midi interface, you can control it from the application instead of the pedal. Still using the pedal, just an easier to see interface, especially for secondary parameters.
Amazing demo thank you! I have been looking at a few lofi pedals not realizing my Timeline had a great setting for it. I’ve been so stuck on using at as a delay I never explored using it full wet and using that as the source! How do you feel about the difference between the Lofi mode on the timeline vs that of the Mobius? I’ve been stuck between getting the mobius because it’s stereo stereo and the Generation Loss because I like the character more. If the mobius and timeline modes are comparable I might just spring for the generation loss!
Timeline has increased control over Mobius on lofi mode. I will say that loss of volume on the Gen Loss is a common complaint at certain filter settings. This is something the Chase Bliss colab with CooperFX (Chase bliss generation loss) addressed by allowing a separate volume control. If this might bother you, I'd suggest waiting until CooperFX have released their next iteration of the Gen Loss, which is supposed to address this issue.
@@TriPedalReviews Awesome thank you for the info. I guess I'll wait for the next gen loss. I can't believe the amount people are scalping the Chase Bliss version for on Reverb. For that I could get a stereo pair of Gen1 !
Generation Loss is such a beautiful name for that pedal. Want want. I am also drooling over that Drolo, that "feedback noise thing" is excellent. Anything from Fairfield sounds really good, but Shallow Water doesn't sound like neither tape or vinyl that much in my ears. Neither does Varped Vinyl HiFi that I got my self. : / I belive the Empress pedal must be one of the best pedals, and not only best among reverbs. That Midfi Pitch Pirate delux seems fun : ) I miss Demedash T-120 Videotape Echo her. I got that one to and like it better, or find better use of it than the Varped Vinyl. Maybe because it sounds to HiFi?
Yeah the shallow water is really quite unique which is very impressive considering how many lofi pedals on this vid haha the hifi warped vinyl is a little lofi but its very 80s/early 90s style of lofi haha rather than the rest which remind me more of the 70s
Don't fall for these pedals if you have regular comp, eq, drive/fuzz, and vibrato effects in your pedal setup or multieffects unit. You can get similar results and have more options to create whatever sound you like.
Very much so. As long as you know the building blocks of what makes something lofi, you can achieve the same sounds any number of ways. For anyone curious checkout my video "Poly Effects Beebo - A Lofi Exploration" as I go over those building blocks, which can be applied to any number of effects pedals of the same type.
The Strymon Deco is the one! The hipster pedals are just stacked vibratos and there really over exaggerated they have that under water sound that you never actually hear on lofi songs, there all unusable on every dial after 9 o'clock, there also over priced!
I completely agree here. It may have been a great option back in the day when there were no other options and it wasn't 1k, but now days you can get very similar results from a lot of different pedals.
See description for timestamps. Please comment and let everyone know what you use for your Lofi sounds if it is not included in this video!

you should update this list now that we have the gen lost 2 and the artificial blonde
I don't have the artificial blonde, but I did an updated shootout with almost all iterations of the Generation Loss. Might do another round at some point to include some additional pedals that have been released in recent years, but it'll probably be at least a year down the road.
OOOOOH the artifiical blonde is an amazing vibrato@@TriPedalReviews
Nu33?
Round 2 shootout in 2022?!
Yes.
Majestic tones. Looking forward on round 2 🔫. @@TriPedalReviews
This is great. Thank you.
Thoughts on the new solid gold fx nu 33.
@@TriPedalReviews I’ll definitely be looking for it! Thanks for doing an awesome job!
Night the chase bliss. That’s heavenly
Which of these would be the most affordable?
Had the Instant Lofi Junky..just wasn't what I was looking for and it's noisy
Same. Had this crazy loopy noise in the background. And I need something stereo.
It’s so noisy
Surprised how good the Ventris was considering its a reverb pedal
i needed this video!!!
What can I do

Your REAR?
Very nice demo :)
favorite : Drolo molecular and mattoverse inflect points , i'm trying to afford one if someone know where they're hiding !!
the deco is the best pedal I have
great video 👍 do you have an expression pedal plugged in to the mobius for changing bitrate etc?
I was changing it via computer, had it hooked up via midi to USB cable. Don't believe I had an expression pedal hooked up in this instance.
Tri Pedal Reviews thanks for the reply 🙏
Thanks for the detailed video! Its very cool to hear sound comparisons.
This new "boutique" pricing mode for guitar pedals is bullshit though. I'm not paying more than a couple hundred for any pedal point blank period. Its just greedy. Looking at you Chase Bliss.....
Couldnt agree more 👌🏻
Wonder which ones are your faves from that big cool collection?
For Tape, the SA pedals are my favorite. Deco & Recovery (deco being cleaner) are probably close seconds, but all of the ones in that category did a good job. I was amazed at pedals that wern't built specifically for the purpose getting as close as they did to the sound. I will say the EHX tape was different than the others, covering just saturation and uniform modulation. So it wasn't quite as robust as the other options, but it's purpose is a great delay, not chewed up tape sounds.
Vinyl is harder to call for me, so I wont, lot's of killer pedals in that category.
mattoverse and drolo
@@TriPedalReviews I’ve come back to this great demo many times. The Deco really sticks out as a amazing sound with the saturation engaged. If they made a stereo lofi junky instant, I’d be set.
And about the cheap chorus/vibrato options?
Zoom ms70cdr - stack up to 6 effects. So chorus/vibrato, eq/filter, delay, reverb, compression, and maybe some drive will get you in that ballpark.
Nice
Nemesis 🖤
Yeah I think the Nemesis has the warble down
Anyone know of guitar effects VSTs that can get this sound?
Waves Kramer Tape, Izotope Vinyl
@@louissadler4047 Hey thanks! I'll check these out
Waves HDelay is pretty insane if you want it to go that way. Very liquid and lacking some of the flanginess...
I made a recording of this video so I'd have something to play in my car while driving across the country last month.
I'm not drunk officer I swear. I just have a case of the Lofi's.
No VHS? FeelsBadMan
HEXE Melusine III ?
Owned one. Very disappointing.

T-60 Videotape Vibrato
lol the pitch pirate is only lofi accidentally
I'm confused. are you usiung a virtual strymon lofi? the pedal doesn't look like that.
Strymon has an Application called Nixie, if you hook the pedal up to your computer via a USB to midi interface, you can control it from the application instead of the pedal. Still using the pedal, just an easier to see interface, especially for secondary parameters.
Apparently I am very behind the times. What is the program or app you are using to manipulate the Strymon Timeline?
It's called Nixie. I also did a video tutorial on the program a long time ago, you should be able to find it.
old small clones are great
Amazing demo thank you!
@@nizer7147 Yea, the world is full of jack asses :) I'll be picking up a new gen loss when they come out. I've already got the Chase Bliss one though.
So what's everyone's favorite??
Generation Loss is such a beautiful name for that pedal. Want want.
I am also drooling over that Drolo, that "feedback noise thing" is excellent.
Anything from Fairfield sounds really good, but Shallow Water doesn't sound like neither tape or vinyl that much in my ears. Neither does
Varped Vinyl HiFi that I got my self. : /
I belive the Empress pedal must be one of the best pedals, and not only best among reverbs.
That Midfi Pitch Pirate delux seems fun : )
I miss Demedash T-120 Videotape Echo her.
The hipster pedals are just stacked vibratos and there really over exaggerated they have that under water sound that you never actually hear on lofi songs, there all unusable on every dial after 9 o'clock, there also over priced!
loopgubrious
Oh yea
Hyped i helped a tad
anyone know which ones are inexpensive
? :c
No, don’t you know making things sound shite is expensive?
The funny thing is you could just record to tape and get much of the same vibe haha.

The two thumbs down are just diehard deconstructionist.
So many useable sounds in the other pedals no need to spends 1k+ on the generation loss...
I completely agree here. It may have been a great option back in the day when there were no other options and it wasn't 1k, but now days you can get very similar results from a lot of different pedals.
