+PAUL BOOTH Ah, I currently live less than one half a mile from the place he was murdered: the legendary Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit. I delayed going that night in favor of the next night, fearing a madhouse and a poor seat (he hadn't played Detroit for 20 years). Of course, there was no next night. I regret not going that fateful Monday, but knowing me, I probably would have been hanging with him when he got shot outside the front door (drive-by by a guy who held a grudge for 20 years) and could have been hit myself.
Today, August 3rd 2016 is the 98th anniversary of Eddie Jefferson‘s birth. Please check out my youtube channel "Remember our Music" an historical site which daily honors a great African-American musician like Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, Lester Young and Charlie Parker plus divas of blues and jazz, including: Mable Lee, Dinah Washington, Alice Coltrane and Maria Cole Nat King Cole’s wife, all born in the month of August!
@@JeffreySaxophoneTallNewton I had tickets to a Berkeley gig 2 weeks later. I would finally get to see Eddie! Richie got Dizzy to replace him. They were followed by Joni Mitchell w/ Hancock, Jaco Pastorius, Tony Williams & Don Alias.
The Eric Kloss solo on this track has got to be one of the best (relatively) recent Confirmation saxophone solos recorded. I just can't get over it. I have a poor vinyl transfer version, so thanks for uploading this better quality mp3.
The master of vocalese and scat songing😊
Nobody could scat like Eddie Jefferson!
Unmatched!!
My wife & I heard E.J. at The Lighthouse, Hermosa Beach late 70's. What a performer!!

I saw him a few nights before at his last gig in Chicago. It was a very sad ending.
