music is not a competition, if you prefer some players vocabulary to others keep it to yourself, you are wasting your time and the point of music is Love, comment sections are full of wannabe jazz critics who never played a note with love and ended up writing about things they dont understand
Question time, ready? Q-1) In what way do you think I'm soooooooo outta touch with reality? Q-2) What does it have to do with living in JPN? Q-3) You can see the other comments (fall12527, tsunekotsuneo, ImaniHekima) favoring Watanabe, so why do you think I'm the only person that likes Sadao Watanabe? Q-4) What do you not like about Watanabe's performance? Q-5) What PRECISELY should Watanabe have learned if he had had to take some lessons with Mclean?
Some people are very nationalistic with their musicians, Sadao Watanabe is a Japanese legend, and even if you're right, it's hard to accept for some of his fans in this country…the comment was, you are stupid because you said that Sadao should have taken some lessons, it is not a stupid comment at all and indeed, Sadao has learned from him, it is like Coltrane learded from Monk, or from Davis, if you can learn from another instrument, why wouldn't you learn from someone who plays your own...
Quite a tone-down. But you're still obliged to answer my questions. We're all responsible for what we say, aren't we? I expect you to be a respectable person.
Q-3...who cares about those three other guys! LOL -----Whether S. Watanabe's perfomance is great or mediocre is the point of our debate. So the guys who threw in those comments clearly disagree with you, just like I do. So how can you not care? Anyway you haven't answered Q-3, which is about your comment: "I'm the only person that likes Sadao Watanabe." Is it true or what?
@"And of course you're not the only guy that likes Sadao." So you take it back as well. You have taken back 3 of your comments. As I suggested before, you needed to learn a lesson, right? Think before you say/write something. A lesson learned, I hope.
Nah seriously I don't care what those three guys think, or if they wouldn't agree with me. I don't know them and they don't know me! lol And of course you're not the only guy that likes Sadao. But I love Jackie Mclean!! Different strokes for different folks, right?
I have nothing against Sadao, but he's playing along the master Jackie Mclean! It sounded like he's an "ok" bebop player so i give him some credit. But he has no real style of his own, he just has "licks, he's not original in any way. Listen to Jackie he has his own sound, his own delivery, and his own ideas. Sadao has none of those things. And you ask what could he have learned from Jackie? Come on! Jackie was something else! I knew him and he was a master of a jazz musician, and that's a fact!
It's all good... But I still don't think he's a special player. Sounds very average. He sounds "student like." His playing sounds like he took all his licks out of the Charlie Parker Omni Book. A student should only sound like that when he/she first starts out, and then they must transform the "basic" material, and add their own "view of the world." He hasn't done that, so he sounds fair and weakish. He sounds "student-like."
I'm not trying to tear Sadao a new "a_ _ hole, I'm just making alot of sense. Q-1...no comment. I take it back Q-2...no comment. i take it back Q-3...who cares about those three other guys! LOL Q-4, Q-5...I already answed in my last email
