UNASSISTED SIMPSON CROSSING | KLR650 SOLO ADVENTURE
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 сер 2023
- Come with me on a motorcycle adventure in Australia’s Simpson Desert.
This is one of the Outback's most stunning and unique places, but it doesn’t come easy.
The isolation, ruggedness, and harshness of the terrain will push me and the KLR650 to our absolute limits.
Heavy rains have flooded and damaged some tracks and the Ayre Creek remains high, making the crossing difficult and uncertain.
I set off just days after the Birdsville police reopen the Eastern exit of the desert, with no other motorcycles around, and only the odd 4wd every few hours amongst the vast emptiness. - Авто та транспорт
Awesome effort mate. Solo crossing is genuinely gutsy. Huge props to you. Your positivity throughout was something else.
Cheers mate! That is a huge compliment so thank you. I definitely had my moments where the positivity slipped, but I managed to always get back on track.
You're never alone in the outback with so many friendly flies.
Hahaha! So true!
Your vid randomly appeared on my feed and after watching just 1m:30s I was in stitches and hooked. Gonna save this for tonight when I can sit down and watch the whole thing proper. Thanks UA-cam for the recommendation looks bloody awesome mate!!! Subbed!!!
Good on youtube for spreading, and cheers to you for clicking! I think that is a good choice, get comfy and watch all the mayhem in one go. Thanks for the sub, and welcome to the channel!
@@NotShookADV Ahh man just sat down and watched the whole thing bloody awesome!!!!. So many good moments loved your dingo mate, the narration, the river crossing looked full on and I can only imagine the sense of achievement getting to Birdsville. Loved the vid and look forward to the next episode.
@@MotoPassport Thanks a lot for the kind feedback. I was really lucky to get through unscathed and have a lot of fun moments along the way. Cheers legend, I appreciate the support!
Watching this really shows what these bikes are capable of, great riding mate! If ever I have trouble on a ride I know that it's me and not my KLR lmao
Cheers mate!
Yeah the trusty KLR didn’t skip a beat for me this ride, they are a great machine.
What an incredible feat, and on a KLR! Awesome stuff 💪
Cheers mate!
Nicely done, enjoyed the whole run so far. Got'a love the KLR. 👍
Thanks mate! I’m glad you are enjoying the rides.
Yeah for sure, a lot to love about the KLR!
Wow! You have done an incredible job!👏👏👏👏
Thanks John!
I appreciate the kind words.
You are an absolute beast 💪
Inspirational stuff and so glad it turned up on my feed
Thanks so much legend! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Welcome to the channel!
That 20ltr jerry was the equivalent of carrying a dead pillion instead of supplies! What a mammoth effort in sand. You must be one stubborn bugger mate.
Yeah the upright positioning of it was very similar to carrying a pillion, not the best setup…
Hahah yeah I guess really am a stubborn bugger!
Thanks for watching.
Really enjoyed the look into your experience crossing the desert. I also have a Gen 3 KLR, and have done some pretty tough riding with it, but not nearly as remote as your ride, nor as long. There were parts that really took some courage and commitment to continue into. Great job.
Thanks a lot mate. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
There were definitely a few moments in there when that were pretty borderline, I’m grateful that I was able to make it through unscathed.
As far as the bike goes, it was always there for me no matter how bad I treated her at times!
Great to hear that there is someone else that agrees that the KLR can and should be taken places!
Thanks for watching.
Incredible journey, thanks for sharing this with everyone. Stay safe out there, brother.
Cheers mate, I love that you enjoy the video
That leg took a beating! 😅
Incredible effort mate and awesome video, bloody loved it!
Yeah it sure did, still a bit sore but I was so lucky really. So glad I upgraded to the tech 7s after watching your foot injury, I would have been done on this trip day 1 little desert. Thanks mate, appreciate it!
Onya cobba top efford on the mighty klr , love the big single thumper soundtrack
Cheers mate, nothing like the sound of a big thumper roaring through the desert!
Gutsy, foolish, legendary, hardcore, crazy, or a straight up achiever. Thanks for sharing. I hope to follow in your footsteps
Thanks a lot mate, maybe a very tiny amount of all of them 😅. You definitely should give it a crack, it is an beautiful place, and a great adventure.
Wow i just found your channel all this on a klr i have a 2023 klr adventure omg what a great channel
Welcome to the channel!
Great to have another KLR rider around! Thanks for checking out the channel.
How do you find the KLR? I love the colour of the adventure model, they look tough.
KLR = Unkillable! Awesome adventure mate.
Cheers mate! Haha yeah they are pretty bulletproof!
I'm worn out just watching this. Great ride
Haha yeah it really was a tough one. Thanks for watching
Amazing adventure mate. I wish I could do that. No courage by myself especially alone. Good luck.
Cheers mate! It was a really fun adventure. Don’t sell yourself short, start small and work up to it, you have it in you! I believe in you.
Thanks for the video, helps make me more grateful for buying a DR 650 for my outback touring. Having 32 usable litres in the tank and nothing unnecessary on the bike makes it a bit easier.
Cheers mate , thanks for watching.
Definitely a better option for the long range outback trips.
As that is a tiny percentage of the riding I do, those things are not as high priority for me.
I almost never need extra fuel above 23 litres in reality. I also like having the large fairings for the road riding, which is a huge percentage of the riding I do, getting from my home to the bush.
Everyone chooses the bikes they like and is suited to them.
Even though the DR is a far better bike in a lot of ways compared to the KLR the main thing for me with it is I don’t love the look of it. Just personal preference.
The DR isn't a great highway bike!😉 Every minute I'm on the bitumen I'm searching for a dirt track!
You have a really optimistic attitude mate, even when crashing, the best way to tackle something like the simo.
Cheers mate! I do try my best to stay positive, especially when solo, but I definitely still have my moments, I just try to move on quickly and not slip too long. Yeah I agree definitely helps on trips like the simmo, things can go bad quickly if you have a bad mindset.
Great Moovie Andy, absolutely spectacular, on the edge of my seat, so many highlights, too many to mention, glad to see nothing broke and yer still not shook.. cheers mate 🍻
Thanks juddy, appreciate the kind words! Yep the trusty KLR treated me really well.
Great video, thanks for posting. I rode my DR650 Cairns to Birdsville last year, but flooded desert canceled my trip across. May shoot it this year. Cheers.
Thanks Gusto! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Yeah the floods made it hard last year for a lot of people doing trips, I was very lucky.
Hopefully the moons can align for you this year and you get to have a crack.
You did well wrestling such a big unit across the desert .
Cheers mate, thanks for watching!
WOW!!!!!! Not sure how you can walk around with them big balls banging between ya legs! Great effort mate and extremely inspirational. Not Sure how you rode the Koolest Lime Rooster all that way super heavy loaded, but you did. Is there a better advertisement for this bike, I'm not sure you could do anything different. Always happy and up. Absolutely fantastic effort mate, unsupported, and in the most remote place on this amazing continent we call home. Blew me away mate, keep it up, can't wait for the next episode. Bloody legend effort
Hahahaha cheers mate!!
The koolest lime green rooster did me well! Best comment ever, thanks legend
Awesome video and quality edit. Subscribed. The KLR has always been on the radar but have been looking at others. As a value for money proposition I may again reconsider getting a KLR.
Thanks a lot mate! And welcome to the channel.
The klr is decent value for money, it’s not flashy but it’s reliable, comfortable and versatile bike, I love mine!
What other bikes have you been considering?
I leave the house for 3 hours and get that i gotta get home feeling, this dude doing it big! Someday…
I was exactly the same not too long ago to be honest! Once I started to do a few overnighters it started to get a whole lot easier.
You just have to start getting out there.
Thanks for the comment legend.
@@NotShookADV hell yeah, brother. Rock on cheers from Georgia, USA
Awesome effort. I found your channel 2 days ago and have watched all your stuff. Loving it! Looking forward to the next instalment. Keep up the good work.
Cheers legend! That’s so great that you are enjoying the channel, thanks a lot for the support.
Excellent. Wow the Eyre creek had some water in it!
Yeah it sure did! Had a lot of flow on it too, can’t believe how long it stays high…
Cheers mate.
Simply amazing and very inspiring. Well done. Thank You!!!
Thanks a lot! Im glad you enjoyed it!
Hey im a new subscriber and I just wanted to thank you, im going to pick up my 2023 650 adventure tomorrow and your videos are not having me regret my purchase at all, this is what I was looking for in a motorcycle, a tank that can handle all terrains
Congrats on the new bike! Some great adventures coming up for you!
Thanks for the sub, welcome to the channel.
Dude, you are something else! 😁 The best part of this video is getting to see your resiliency and positivity in face of this challenge! Well done dude!! Thank you for putting in the effort to film this/ share with the world! I recently bought the same bike you have, even down to the ram mount mirrors you have (those mirrors are awesome!) Perhaps one day I'll have the balls to do something like this.
Thanks a lot for the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Congrats on the KLR purchase, and I agree these mirrors are great, pretty indestructible.
Mate you definitely should if you ever get the chance, and don’t worry the KLR is always up for the challenge!
Great video. Well done. Inspirational. Credit to you and the KLR
Thanks a lot, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
thoroughly enjoying this
I’m glad you are enjoying it! Thanks for tuning in.
Love your positivity mate. Great work on the crossing!
Thanks a lot!
Had a few moments where the positivity slipped a bit, but always tried my best to maintain it.
Thanks for watching.
Loved the adventure. Looking forward to the next one.
I’m really glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for the support!
Congrats from Canada's awesome ride!! I've been watching blokes cross the Simpson for 10 years on UA-cam. It's incredible how similar the problems always are. Especially the leg getting caught under the bike, bike loading and tie downs, pain, water loss and am I getting out?. You did good, mate you have the right right personality Now, did you give dingo a name?? 👍 cheers
Yeah I really ticked off a lot of the common non trip ending problems.
Haha na I didn’t end up giving old mate dingo a name sadly.
Thanks a lot for the kind words, and for tuning in all the way from Canada!
Old mate dingo's a great name! I'm a dual citizen born in Box Hill. Love watching the aussie motorbike scene. I'll be watching your channel. Dave
@davemcmahon8140 Cheers Dave!
Outstanding effort; well done!
Cheers! Thanks for watching.
Awesome work and fantastic video- looking forward to the next
Cheers mate and thanks for the support!
Very inspirational, great work 👍
Thanks a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
That was amazing stuff bro, you show amazing grit out there . I'm loving it !
Cheers mate! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I appreciate the compliment, when I’m on my own I have to try and stay pretty solid.
awesome video enjoyed every minute of it mate !!
Cheers mate! Im really glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
What an amazing adventure, thanks for sharing.
Cheers, and thanks for watching!
Brilliant video...well put together and what a ride 👍🍺
Thanks for the kind feedback mate
Great video mate! Keepin it real on the KLR, well done!
Thanks legend, Trying to keep it real!
Awesome job man. I’d love to do this. Mad respect for doing it on your own
Thanks mate! You definitely should give it a crack if you ever get the chance, it’s a great adventure.
Bloody awesome mate. Good to see the mighty KLR do the crossing, Top effort mate.
Cheers mate! The trusty KLR was never in doubt!
Top work mate! Loving the series so far! Ballsy doing it on the big girl solo. Keep up the good work
Cheers legend! Thanks for tuning in.
Awesome effort digger,
Ima a kiwi who spent ten years in oz a ways back and have been planning a trip back to do exactly this and a fue other spots also. Really enjoyed watching you push through and keep your positive perspective. That Dingo was cute as i think he wanted a pat as much as you wanted to give him one.
A sub from me keep em coming and good luck 👍
Gday legend,
That's great, definitely worth doing the Simpson on your trip, it is such an epic place. Thanks, yeah I think you have to try and stay as positive as you can , once you slip on that when you are solo it can get bad pretty quick, I still had my moments! Haha yeah I reckon the little dingo would have loved a bit of a pat, maybe slip him a piece of jerky, he would have been happy. Cheers for the sub and welcome to the channel.
Huge effort mate. Thoroughly enjoyed the ride and honest commentary👍.
Thanks legend! I’m glad the commentary was decent, it’s a weird one not talking to anyone but yourself for hours!
Bloody great , good ride , well done. Fantastic video .Cheers
Cheers mate! I’m glad you enjoyed the video, I had a lot of fun out there.
Brilliantly entertaining ❤
Thanks a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed your positive outlook! Great job overcoming each tough moment. Perseverance 🤙🏽
Thanks a lot for the kind words!
Great video you done very well
Thanks mate! It was a great ride.
Awesome effort mate. Watching this is as close as I’ll ever get to doing the crossing myself so grateful to follow along.
Cheers Neville, hearing that really makes sharing these videos all worth it. I’m really glad you enjoyed following along!
Stunning achievement........well done mate..!
Cheers legend! Thanks for watching.
Awesome effort mate. Well done 👍
Thanks mate!
Cheers for watching.
You are inspiring. I’ve been watching your videos just working up to an overnight trip through the desert. Excellent content and glad you’re not too badly injured.
Thanks a lot Tony. Im glad you are enjoying the videos. Thats great that you are planning to do a trip yourself through the desert, once you get the first overnighter done you will be hooked! Thanks for the kind words, and good luck with the trip!
Subscribed. I really like your style of riding and making videos...good luck mate!
Welcome to the channel, and thanks for the sub!
I’m glad you are enjoying the videos.
Legendary trip on a legendary machine. Good on ya mate
Thanks a lot mate! ✊
Massive effort mate. Well done👌👌💪💪
Cheers mate!
Excellent video, great trip too, thanks for sharing mate. Getting the leg stuck under the bike brought back memories
Thanks a lot! It was a great trip.
Yep the leg under the bike isn’t a great feeling is it.
Epic 👍 on a klr well done 👏
Cheers Robert! Thanks for watching.
Bro. That was epic. Really great work crossing that desert. A true adventure!
Looking forward to the next one.
Don’t hesitate to dwell on the maps and explain your situation with the voice overs. It adds a lot to the videos and gives us great context. Those segments add a lot to your videos.
Keep up the excellent work!
Thanks a lot mate!
Yep I will try and give a bit more context and time with the maps, that’s great feedback cheers .
I really appreciate the support✊
I agree, the more details the better, for example the dates especially for viewers way in the future, and did you need any permits? I thought they made the Simpson into a park years ago. Don't forget there is a worldwide audience so not all will understand how tough this really is - you have to explain it.
Awesome effort. One of the very best videos I've seen on the crossing.
Thanks so much for kind words, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I used to have a KLR (been up the back of Big Red) -- but was too heavy for me. So sold it for a KTM390-A. Was hoping to do Rig Road this year but was carrying too much plus need to up-skill too if I'm carrying so much fuel and water. (for 700k) I turned back about 160k in after Purne bore. So I know what a feat it was on your KLR, Dee (or flipsidenews) @@NotShookADV
Good effort dude. Great Episode.
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching.
Holy shit dude. Legendary feat. Impressive mindset too.
Thanks a lot for the kind words mate, I appreciate it.
well done excellent video
Cheers legend!
Mate what an amazing adventure great viewing 👌 few close calls on your legs mate lol top effect great positivity looked fun as pretty sure that dingo keen to eat you lol
Thanks a lot mate! Yep I was very lucky with the leg, and to get through without any bad injuries.
Haha yeah the dingo definitely was hoping for a feed… Is this The Mt Evelyn Tommy Heenan?
Well done mate
Thanks mate!
Incredible matte. Keep going.
Cheers Francois!
Really enjoyed your video mate, that was a tough crossing.
Thanks mate! That’s great that you enjoyed the video. Yeah it was a tough crossing, lots of lessons learnt, but I had a lot of fun out there too!
Outstanding effort.
Cheers legend! Thanks for watching
Solo hell yea... u good mate....awesome... safe ride man....👍🏻
Cheers mate! Thanks for tuning in.
Sjoe,'bru! One doesn't hear of it being done on a KLR - kudos to you and the bike. You're an inspiration .
Cheers bro!
I’m sure a few legends have done it the trusty KLR over the years.
Thanks for the kind words.
You're some lad, fair play that's one hell of a ride.
Cheers legend!
another banger mate ! i was there the following week on my 8909 (semi supported had to carry water & fuel) i felt super fortunate to enjoy the detour around eyre creek ...congrats mate
Yeah spot on, so lucky to see the desert so green and full of life, the eyre ck section was such a beautiful oasis.
You did well getting the 890 across great work! Was it still not too busy out there for you?
Cheers mate.
@@NotShookADV not a lot of people out there at all ! The 890 was flawless and made me look a lot better than what I am ! Look forward to watching the rest of your trip ! You take the quacker places most owners wouldn’t ever dream of good on you mate
How good! Im suprised how the bigger bikes still seem to do well out in the sand, as long as you can lift them back up. Cheers mate, thanks for tuning in!@@disappearanceclearance8212
Very enjoyable to watch. Ya dun good !
Thanks a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Your a legend mate! What an effort.
V-Strom is the same, 2 bolts holding up the lights/dash assembly, scares the shit out of you when it all starts bouncing around. I fitted longer bolts so the threads stuck out the other end then fitted nuts to lock it together.(Whole thing is removed now)
That Dingo was definitely waiting to eat your carcass.
Thanks heaps mate!
I was surprised that the front assembly lasted this long, Yeah it really does scare you, I thought I’d snapped it off for sure. I think I will do that with the longer bolts and locknuts.
Haha yes that little dingo was licking his lips when I got bogged….
Damn! Too much for me, but well-done mate, awesome adventure 💪😎
Yeah it was a pretty gruelling one, but like you say an awesome adventure. Cheers legend!
Good work mate
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching.
I love in - in the middle of way out nowhere on a flat almost treeless plain - a detour sign ... great quality - I felt like I was there with you - well done ! Me KLR - my niece's name - Michaela !
Yes the detours were a bit of a laugh! Thats great that you enjoyed following along with me.
Thats an excellent name for your KLR, I love it! Iam yet to name mine, but this gets me thinking.
Thanks for watching.
Curry and Camel pie sounds interesting, next year we are going north on the Ghan and then driving back and I'll be on the lookout for the aforementioned pie.
You are brave tackling that on your own.
Hi from NZ,
Anthony
Gday Anthony,
You should definitely try the curry camel pie if you get the chance! It’s great.
That sounds like an epic trip, I’ve always wanted to ride the Ghan.
The cool thing with the drive home you can drive along the ruins of the old Ghan line, which is great too, lots of old bridges and buildings.
Cheers for watching.
That was tough, well done mate!
Cheers mate! Yeah it was a really tough one, but a lot of fun too.
Great work mate. Done the same trip in 2011 on a trusty KLR650👍
Cheers mate.
That’s great, how did you go? How were the conditions back then?
I knew that some trusty Gen 2s must have done the crossing at some point!
It was unreal. Middle was super soft and you are right, you have to get a rhythm going. The KLR was a tractor and couldn't kill it. Tried again this year but flooded out so done flinders rangers. Mount Gill should be on your bucket list👍👍@@NotShookADV
@stevengillies3973 oh yeah the tractor factor of the KLR hits hard in the sand. Flinders ranges is awesome, I need to get out there and explore a bit more. Cheers mate I’ve put Mt Gill on the bucket list!
Bloody good effort doing that on a bike. You've got balls of steel.
Cheers mate! It’s was a tough one, but lots of fun.
Product testing in the field. I'd guess that sand would start to feel old pretty quickly. Brave venture!
Thanks mate, yep putting it all properly to the test on this one.
The sand sure does get old, some parts are really repetitive and draining, but the terrain on this crossing has some significant enough changes to keep it interesting.
The mighty KLR..doesn't always get you there first...but...always gets you there....I have the same bike, modded to the hilt....great bike..will drop the ratio a bit and just waiting for the fork brace to be back in stock...great riding...thanks for the videos....keep your feet on the pegs and your right hand cranked...😁
Very true! Ever reliable, always comfy, got to love the KLR.
I just installed the NICE CNC fork brace, and it goes well, cheap as, and actually looks better on the bike than it does on the website. Blends in well.
Thanks for the support!!
I will try another one of same make...first they sent me didn't fit the tubes....said for a 2022...@@NotShookADV
I have run into that problem with a few parts on the KLR.@@retiredwaterdoctor
What an adventure. One day I hope to experience something like this.
Cheers legend!
I hope you do get out and have an adventure like this, you absolutely should if you get the chance!
I’d have to say that there was huge portions of this ride that you cannot argue are through the outback, whichever way it is you define it
been un the simpson 8 months ago with a mate KLX 450 and ktm 500.. mate.. when I see your video.. shit I really miss it. my plan is crossing the desert on my 790 unsupported... really looking forward to. Unfortunately I damaged my knee meniscus in the high country.. means 3 month ni hard off-road .. :(
It’s such a great place isn’t it! That would have been an awesome trip!
Oh mate that will be great, solo on the 690, it would be epic.
Get that knee healed up and get out there!
I’d love to buy a Ktm500 one day and do the Simpson on it.
damn what a legend mate. insane effort crossing that giant alone. not only crossing but having the pig fully loaded. thanks for sharing bro!
Thanks heaps mate! Cheers for tuning in!
Thanks heaps mate! Cheers for tuning in!
Hi Andy. Solid ride mate. We chatted at Ayre Creek crossing (Two Hilux’s & Polaris buggy) 👍
Gday mate, I remember well, great to hear from you! It was good to see the buggy get through the creek no problems.
How did you guys go on the desert crossing?
The curry camel pie recommendation was a ripper!
Had a great run via Rigg to Mt. Dare - passed one car and 3 nights. Met bikes there and then had 3 days across Madigan back to Birdsville. No issues. Safe ride further and shout out when passing Cooroy if you need a bed for a night.
Good to hear, Sounds like a great trip, it’s nice to have such little traffic out there. I’m safely back in Melbourne now Cheers though mate!
Nice trip mam, Trailer and come along alloy winch !
Cheers Andrew, Thanks for watching.
great vid mate
Cheers legend!
Good on you mate.
Cheers mate! Thanks for watching.
Very impressive and brave to drive the Simpson desert solo
Thanks a lot Sam! It was a great adventure.
Awesome!!!
Thanks a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Mammoth effort 👌👌👌
Cheers mate, thanks for tuning in!
🙏 Great trip
Thank you, it really was!
Absolutely well done to you both. Also well done on mental attitude and problem solving. Just a quick question, are you drooping your tier pressure for the sand or keeping them the same the hole time. looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks for the kind words. Yep I am playing with pressures a bit. Trying to run 20 &17 in the sand, and tweaking it up and down a psi at a time, on the roads or hard tracks usually around 24 &19 psi, maybe slightly lower when hot too.
Hard core ride , hard core rider. These were the days you will never forget. Excellent adventure and the editing was on point. Did you serve in the military? Cheers .
Yeah for sure, some of the hardest and best times! No I didn’t ever serve.
Thanks for the kind words.
