I Tried Acrylic Pour Art For The First Time

- Hello friends! Apologies for the long absence, but we are trying to get things back on track. No, this video didn’t take us 3 months to make - we filmed a bunch of videos in July and this is the first of them to be released! It’s not a magnum opus, just supposed to be fun and lighthearted. Now, onto the video! A few weeks ago, somewhere deep in a visual ASMR UA-cam rabbit hole, I discovered the online acrylic pour art community - where people essentially make interesting color combos of paint in a cup, then pour that cup onto a canvas or object - and then manipulate that object to create truly mesmerizing, rainbow, psychedelic pieces of art. And I was instantly hooked - just something about the way the paints flow from the cup and then slide around the canvas really got me, ya know? So I decided to pick an acrylic pour art video and try to follow it myself, to see if I could do it too. So I chose a "pouring guru", Tiktus color art, and got to work.

Leaving the white area exposed is leaving negative space. I'm a huge fan of negative space in pour paintings. Your stress took me back to my first pour. 🤣 My favorite was your first one. It looks like a wave, love it. I bet Titkus is proud!

Reading her blog and then watching this was a real kick in the heart. Like I can hear her trying to slow down her speech, and that just makes me think about how much those negative comments had affected her. And how through this all she's really trying to push through her own depression... ugh, And she does such a good job in this video! Man we need to compliment bomb her or something...

This was filmed back in July according to the description so I don’t think she had changed her way of speaking yet. (Who knows though) Always thought she sounded fine/easy to understand. Reading her blog post is ... really saddening. Girl’s human like the rest of us.
But it was a fantastic video! Whatever negative thoughts she was combating, she made cool art, explained it in a way that was entertaining, and kept her awesome Saf vibe the whole time.

to the hate you get about your speaking voice: as a disabled individual, your videos are not only just great content, but also are so easy to watch because of how clearly you speak and enunciate. i normally use the shitty auto generated captions for other videos because of how fast people talk, but for yours I don't have to worry about it. your videos are a breath of fresh air in what has now become an extremely over-saturated fast-paced world of youtube. thank you for everything you guys do with this channel and thank you for being you! ;)

Totally agree with the speech/enunciation points - as a partially deaf person myself, I have to resort to auto generated captions on so many videos, but NEVER on Safiya's videos, which is such a joy!

Tiktus is my favorite artist for pour art, he uses the most vibrant colors, and combines them so nicely, they dont muddle. I am a newbie to pouring and its not as easy as it looks. You have the expensive paints so you should do well, and not get brown. he first one was good, you didnt mess up, just did a different technique. I would say you are a natural, you are good at this.
how do people not like saf's voice and the way she talks? it reminds me of the way I write essays, sophisticated and fancy but also casual at the same time. and im a pretty damn good essay writer if I do say so myself.

honestly the abstract nature of acrylic pour makes it necessary to kinda...let go of whatever you think you'll get, and just ride the wave. i think holding yourself so strictly to "what did tiktus end up with" held you back! these all turned out really visually appealing.

You did were wonderfully for your first attempt and you could hang them all on the wall and feel proud because each one has it's own beauty. If you use warm and cool colors together it is very dynamic and satisfying.

I've never watched Jenna but what I like most about Saf is she doesn't just randomly make these videos.. it seems random for us, but she'll usually research these things for like a week or longer before doing it or attempting it. So in the video she's very well thought out and researched instead of just wild manic energy of her jumping up one day like "I'M DOING A VIDEO ON PAINTS", which I feel most youtubers would do.

Can I ask what happened to the cup? Why does Saf's droops into one another but Tiktus' has noticeable layers on his cup?

TheicMoggy And too much into the center of the cup. If you look closely to Tiktus he very lightly pours the paint into the cup from side to side so it sits on top on the cup.

@@BothHands1 My younger brother watches a lot of gamers that scream like crazy or have some insanely loud edits for no reason and every time I'm just like "WHY DO YOU ENJOY THAT?!" The problem with the "loud = funny" is it is funny for kids.. it easily can get their attention and can cause an easy laugh.. However as you get older it becomes more and more annoying since you deal with people screaming so much in life as it is.. lol What I love most about Saf is she's well researched typically, soft-spoken, and clear. She doesn't just jump up one day and do a video.. she researches it and learns about it then does the video and puts all of that in it.

yeah, saf is a gem. i love how relaxing and just relatable her content is. she feels like someone who i would be friends with if she was my neighbor (she's about my age). just like, a really cool down-to-earth person who does her own thing, and does it well. she shows us her human side, and it makes me and probably a lot of us feel more normal and human. i love her
Different paints and colours have different weights, depending on what technique and result you’re going for dictates the order of the paint in the cup. Your results are amazing, especially considering it’s your first time.
Safiya is a professional. She’s so entertaining and Is never in any kind of drama because she doenst have an agenda. She didn’t start this to get famous and she cares about her audience more than the number of likes she gets

I am so excited to watch a first timer!!! Paint pouring is amazing. I haven’t watched any of your other videos to know if you’re still trying to paint or not but I’m excited! If your pour down the side of your cup instead of just pouring into the cup, then your cup will look like his :) my mom has been painting for over a year and she still strugggluss with her corners! Ok back to the video! Can’t wait to see how the second turned out :)

also, in case she reads this: i'm not trying to be your doctor, but have you ever been evaluated for adhd? i read your blog post and that cycle of always being slightly behind schedule no matter how much extra time you plan out and then the panic and self-hatred that ensues when you have to throw it all together is very familiar to me, as someone who's had it since the diagnoses were split and was told i had ADD. it's worth looking into, especially since it's affecting your self-worth so badly. lots of love to you, tyler, and crusty!

I was drawn in to the same rabbit hole about 18 months ago. About $4,000 later I’m still loving it and continue learning. Each artist has their own take on a technique. Colour choices are crucial, opacities (opaque vs. transparent paint), metallics etc. Some artists are extraordinary. The technique you did is best done, in my opinion, by Sarah Mack. She brings her pours to a new level.❤🇨🇦

Have to add my voice to this chorus. Truly Saf, art is about something uniquely you and that first one shines. It's evocative and impossible to replicate just-so. Acrylic pour is far more than perfect ombre (sp?) lines; embrace what you find in it!
When Safiya writes on her blog some people critisize her way of speaking, as a french person I don't agree. At least I can watch videos in english and perfectly understand them.

I just found this video and I personally love the one with the white spot and I think some look better that way and it’s been something that has frustrated me over the time the pouring stuff has been on here, like so many cool things have been poured off the edges during people trying to cover the corners completely. I love all your paintings!!! Thanks so much 🥰🙌
my therapist made me do acrylic pouring every now and then and I loved it!! on one side it was just really calming and distracting from what was going on in my head but at the same time it helped me learn how to deal with loss of "control". I still have the paintings on my walls. I do mental health workshops with teenagers now and I use this technique with them all the time!
I knew I missed Safiya, but I didn't realize how much. I clicked so quick when I saw that she posted and I feel so excited and happy and relaxed and I'm less than 2 minutes in.
Read the post and commenting here: all the things you mentioned that people dislike about you (slow talker, enunciate, sounds scripted, etc.) are things that I Iove about you. You are kind of a historian type of content creator. It’s obvious that you do lots of research for your video. So who cares if it sounds scripted? It sounds convincing and interesting. I’m sure you put a lot of effort into writing those scripts and trying to make them sounds fun. I really appreciate that. Also your way of speaking is really clear, which is a perfect input for English as second language learners. You are doing meaningful things. Haters are always gonna hate. I so enjoyed watching this! It is so fun to watch someone who has never pour painted before and doesn’t understand why the paints are layered the way they are or how different techniques change the pours! It looks easy but there are so many factors! I was screaming at the screen by the 3rd one like it was a football game! 🎉
