- August 2015. We were watching the CSX come into the triangle and heard a loud boom and noticed the train was split after the 4th hopper car. I got closer to record it. Once in a lifetime event.
These kids did a better job then some adults. Keep up the great work.
I wish I had the help of track workers when I get a knuckle. They had torches and all the convenience of the road .Only 5 cars back wow!Try carrying a 50lb knuckle 85 cars back in the middle of nowhere in pitch black darkness! Oh yeah you have a hammer and a chisel for your tools.
That coupler is sure bad worn. Look it hangs down
Great job young man!! Your voice sounds a lot like my great-nephew. His great grandfather used to work for C&O Railroad for decades.
Listen at 8:30 LOL
dont be afraid to say something
james lilly gggghhjkklllllllppppp00
Awesome video! That was very cool to see! Those older men stepping in and out of your shot should have payed a little more attention! :) Great.
great job young man
excellent work young man your doin better than lots of the adults out and you get a like from me
Nice piece of industrial history in the background, any history about the building? Good film, pity about those rude older guys. just no manners or sense of fairness.
Good video I would have told those two old pricks to quit getting in the way.
Yeah they were pretty rude, noe was even leaning on the crossing gate like he was trying to break it. Thanks!
8:30 Who farted??
Lex Turner - One of the great unanswered questions of all time!
Nice work Kid!
Keep up the good work. Don't be afraid to kindly ask adults to get out of your shot. ;)
+Jason Walker Yes I thought that guy to be very rude.
That they were. I was going to say something about those guys also but enough already said. Keep it up.

Love the dummies standing right in front of your camer - like they don't see someone set up right there.
Cotter pins. The conductor's nemesis when it comes to changing knuckles.
Thank god it wasn't the last car though
O.k. someone farted right when he stands up after putting the hoses together.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 I HEARD THE GUY SAY REALLY AFTER HE FARTED ! 😂😂😂😂😂
Gee, and I thought only plumbers cracked a smile.
One question.. does the conductor get the coupler from the train or does a truck take it out to them ... if the conductor does get the coupler from the train does he carry it all the way to the end ?
I really don't know. I think a truck came during this one. But I think someone said a truck was near by
Does anyone know how many pounds a coupler (knuckle) weighs??? Obviously it must be heavy, as it must pull thousands of pounds of railcars, and the contents!! I've always liked freight trains because of all the weight they pull!
Yes, when no help is available
In the old days, drop it on the ground at the locomotive and pull the train ahead to the last car. If the broken knuckle is on the trailing car, set the knuckle on the last car and back the train up to the broken car.
@@lowerchertywe do that unless the train is too heavy to move on without help, ie grades
8:30 Fart
Lol yeah.
Pretty rude those who stood in front of him. Total lack of respect. Very well done.
I just love the sound and power of a good coupling, like at 6:20
Hobbyman93 there was some weight behind that, damn.
I don't know if anyone notice but the coupler bar was bent! This will add stress to the the knuckle, and break once again.
The coupler shank is not bent. What it is, is a missing coupler shim as it takes up slack it will straighten out.
There's no coupler shim missing either. It's a simple broken knuckle pin.
This word "breaks" brakes are for stoppin' b-r-e-a-k-s means yer up the creek!
I see plenty of blue haired chiefs were on hand to supervise.
am i the only one who laughed at 4:30
Man that conductor isn’t very good at lacing hoses...
The old toimers were embarrassingly rude to youu. Shame on them but you stood your ground they should be ashamed of themselves
Good luck you have a great future ahsad of you. Be prohd of your good work .Bravo !
sound recordings you got good ears lol
Good effort on your video.Hope you keep it up.
10.25 the freight car track sounded like a beat
4:51 "Oh, hello. My name is _Rudy Inconsiderate_, what's yours?"
5:37 "Yes, my name is Rudy. You can call me *Rude*, for short."
I can tell you that changing a knuckle in the middle of a swamp with nobody around to help is a royal pain.
At 2:06, there's a nice big rusty spot on the inside of the knuckle pin, just above half way. There's your cause.
You don't know what you are talking about or you just don't know what you are doing. The coupler is a pretty simple mechanism. It has a knuckle, a lock, & a "pin" (the long shaft that secures the knuckle to the coupler). One coupler was tilted down on one of the cars while the other one was more horizontal. The guy coupling the hoses did not know what he was doing either. Unbelievable & sad to see. That's why they don't want to pay railroad mechanics too much money.
@@s.j.5850 Yeah, 14 years on the rails. I have no clue. You, on the other hand, are a professional internet railroader.
Nice job! One more subscriber..
Good job making this video
Thank you!
You should Railfan with me
I was going to say that, really rude and just wanted to block her view. You should always ask politely for them to move.
This happen today to me. I do this for a living. Ill be down in Fostoria on Aripl 16
great job, it’s nice to hear a young person’s view and knowledge about trains. keep it up.
CSX= how they break shit, be "reliable" and manage to be a class 1 railroad.
Fantastic narration, keep up the good work.
Great video, despite the guys attempt to block your camera view. Why do people do that???!!!!
he knew the kid was recording because you can see him look back several times
Is there such a thing as "Criminal Thoughtlessness...?"
Just found this. Nice work! (But whoever had the mobile phone ringing caused me to search for mine)!
What a wonderful advertisement for the ironworkers.
Jordan Chamberlain
Lol in the crossing gates
Agreed!
Is that what I think I hear at 8:30?
Who did that lol
someone farts at 8:30
LMAO. Yeah...you're right, that definitely was a fart!
Sound Recordings HAHA I missed it the first time, had to go back and turn up the sound. Good job kid, keep at it and don't be afraid to tell them old farts to get out of the way.
Sound Recordings of all the names
OK so.. the channel is a good idea but terrible execution
Molto bello. Si è rotto il gancio? Mi sono iscritto al tuo canale se vuoi puoi iscriverti al mio e visualizzare treni Italiani. Saluti
the pin on this one was bent all to heck. it should have come right out. thankfully we had a track worker around.
i know this is WAY WAY late but... coal gondolas all have those cotter pins in the couplers, they bend them so the knuckle pins don't fall out when the car is rotary dumped at the power plant
Oh,CSX, Always having a busted knuckle...
Happens to all railroads
Trent Lewis I know, it's a joke.
But with more frequency on the CSX.
Alex cubillo Gómez san José Costa Rica
Sound like cute little kids lol photo pretty good job doing it though probably child prodigies anyway. By the way if you want to run a locomotive come out my way I operate a couple and a steam locomotive
very good job young man
Those knuckles just let go, usually in the most isolated and difficult area. Knuckles take a beating and they crack then fail at some point. [BNSF Engr, retired]
nice job!
At 8:30 sounds like somebody farts.
+bigdaddybigblock Probably the other engine starting to move, but yes it does
doc Brown from back to the future
It really is annoying when you are trying to get a good picture and mugwumps have to walk in front of the camera. Even worse to stand in front. Great video non the less.
I know right, thanks!
8:50 Wasn't he turning the Anglecock because it sounds like you start hearing air flow right when the camera skips to the oncoming train
great job little man. sorry those two old men were being.... well sorry they got in the way of your shots. great work.
Must be the guy with the beard’s first day on job
Does anyone know what sort of car is at 11:11? I have never seen one of these before? It Looks like a small tank blended with a shipping container.
These kids are future railroad employees or fans i hope.
Well one knuckle in a coal train is not bad,,bet they find another before leaving……
LOL the Coal train behind my house came through when you said there was another train coming.
Nice work kid.
Thats a knuckle that broke
Those knuckles litter the mountain side at Cajon Pass.
That left coupler is to low need some adjust and check how worn out are the eyes and the pin.
Hey..least it was near the rail park..prolly the most excitement in Frosty in a while.
I'm a kid who videos trains to
I subscribed to your channel. I love train videos!!
Daaang!! That freight train..loooonng!
Poplar St!!!
Didn’t know doc from back to the future was there
Its hard to believe that one piece can pull the weight of the whole train!
Since when are employees allowed smoke on the job ?
is there a guy named Chris eagle
+Haley Pennington I didn't know their names. But that name sounds familiar.
+Train Talk For Kids From Kids I wonder what CSX did with that broken knuckle?
christopher coleman One of the old guys that you see on my video asked for it and they gave it to him.
Train Talk For Kids From Kids really ? That's cool not to often a knuckle breaks off a train
christopher coleman I know, I would of loved to have it!
longest knuckle change I've ever seen lol.
it doesnt even take 10 min to change a knuckle out lol

Don't know where that conductor trainee learned to lace air hoses.
It was stuck sir. I did get better tho
They had to putz with the cotter key on the pin. They're only there on rotary dump cars to keep the pin from falling out when the car is tipped over.
Somehow, the trains that break couplers seem to have stud conductors that can hoist those knuckles, no problem. No scrawny conductors may apply! Look at other broken coupler videos and see what I mean. Its Karma! Also, on this re-coupling I notice the air hoses are difficult to re-connect. Maybe that is because is it a unit train and is seldom de-coupled. When the other train passes, he is noisy. I can hear the dispatcher- "they are on the ground working...makes lots of noise!"
The hoses are a little off from where they usually line up because these are rotary dump cars and the hose is on the "wrong" side of the coupler on the rotary end of the car. The hoses usually cross under the coupler.
There is a cotter pin on the coupler pin to keep it from falling out when the car is tipped over to dump it. Normally only gravity and friction hold the pin in.
CSX again.
Cool 🆒 it's break knuckle
Always curious how the knuckle was changed and length of time Thanks for posting good job
as seen in video it was a :union iron worker: enough said
I've noticed that all this videos are always csx do they not maintenance there car's or what this never happens in Ontario
this happens all the time it is a common job for a brake man aka conductor. knuckles always brake and why the Loco carries extras and your test includes for brake man carrying a knuckle across set distance to see if you can carry it handle it and then repair it. it is actually a simple process 99 percent of time but not for the unfit.
Would grease help ?
He repeats everything, but that's alright, he's just a kid.
Awesome catch better then what I got
And that’s the main event in Mayberry.😂
Looks like a union iron workers commercial.
nice catch
Nice catch....
ohh butt crack lol
This happened in 2013 millenniumforce it caught on video.
Adults have certain words to describe the kind of people who deliberately interpose themselves between a person taking a picture or video and the subject of the pic/vid. Suffice it to say that I won't use them here but when you have a minute check out some other words - ADIPOSITY and POSTERIOR. Nice video on an interesting subject.
I'm a kid and I video trains to
cool I will check you out
+Train Talk For Kids From Kids - I subscribed. Keep doing train vids...I love them!
This is like railroad AAA.
lol the dude farted
Excelente!
Un video muy interesante!.
saludos.
Ji hearing a train
I hearing a train
This seems to happen to a lot of CSX train are they pulling to much with old trains. GREAT CATCH!
Cool video! Good job with the camera too! I have always wondered what happens when a coupler breaks. Thanks to your video, now I know!
Thanks!
I am the conductor in the video ask any question ill answer it
wade holt How come CSX and NS use three signals on two tracks instead of two signals? That’s something I have never understood.
If I am understanding the question properly you want to know why there are 3 lights on the signal not 2 light . that would be because it is a that controls movement on a track that has a switch. If there are only 2 lights then there is no switch.
Really nicely done.
Someone farted
be nice dont be rude
those are 20 40 and 45 foot ocean container witch PORT are they coming from? or are they heading to the port?
